Re: Review: Gleamlight - An Appalling Bad Hollow Knight Clone

@Smigit it requires a WHOLE lot of patience and dedication, although I might be exaggerating a bit, cause I sucked at this game, but loved it to bits. So yeah, definitely not for everyone. And In terms of lower difficulty, i think it's like dark souls, takes away the point of the game, yada yada yada, you know the drill. It is a souls like, so it draws a couple mechanics from that subgenre, and of course, the notorious difficulty. I can't help with the bosses part, I had trouble with bosses everyone else thought was a breeze and vice versa. Although if a person knows what they are doing, they only need to fight around 6 bosses to complete the game. There's charms too that I guess can classify as difficulty options, but it's hard work to get some of them, so that doesn't help. Again, sorry about the long explanation, in case you haven't noticed, I love this game.

Re: Review: Gleamlight - An Appalling Bad Hollow Knight Clone

@shazbot they're actually very similar in gameplay and design. Both have meters you fill up by hitting with melee attacks, which then can be used to cast spells. Hollow Knight is more, I don't know...bouncy in terms of combat, can't think of a good way to describe it. Hollow Knight is definitely more platforming focused, with it's sequel looking even more so. And if you liked the story of blasphemous, you would probably like hollow knights story as well, although it does require a lot of patience. Sorry for the long explanation.

Re: Review: Gleamlight - An Appalling Bad Hollow Knight Clone

@Mach_Rider admittably yes, when stripped down to it's core, the level design can get pretty boring. It mostly relies on visual aesthetic and variety, although you can't do a whole lot with 2D in the first place. Lots of 2D games have done much better. But I don't know what you mean by unfair. In an example like this, what's the difference between unfair or just difficult? I classify something being unfair as the mechanics of the game hindering you from getting simple tasks done for the sake of artificial difficulty. Hollow Knight does not do this. It is an acquired taste, for how much I adore the game I don't expect everyone to like it.

Re: Random: World Of Tanks Dev Would "Love" To Do An Advance Wars Collab

GilbertXI

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I checked out blitz a few years ago on mobile, and I don't remember it being too agregious in the free to play sense. It was cosmetic only as far as I remember. Although I think I saw some premium service you can get now in the game some time back. I just wished they didn't cheap out and just gave us the console version rather than blitz. In fact why didn't they do that? playing the definitive version on the go could have been a great selling point.

Getting off topic, would love to see a new advance wars on the switch, seems like the perfect system for it.

Re: Here's The Resolution Of Each Game In Super Mario 3D All-Stars

GilbertXI

@theJGG I do agree with you, but a full blown remake requires a lot more work than you think. It could be a good year and a half just to do one for this size. Then if they did remake 64, people would probably complain that sunshine or galaxy wasn't remade. Next thing you know it, they were planning for this game with Wii U hardware before people knew the switch existed.

Re: Thunder Lotus Apologises For Ableist Storyline In Spiritfarer, Pledges To "Correct The Mistake"

GilbertXI

@Bermanator @TheFullAndy this is as far as I'm going to get into this argument, but to quote Oxford:

"Disability
Noun
A physical or mental condition that limits a person's moves, senses or activities"

A person with no signs of a disability can still be called disabled, also known as an invisible disability. I don't think anyone really likes their disability, I know I don't, but both sides of the argument are being kind of petty. As one of you said, it's just a "meh" situation. Didn't spin out of control like usual, so why does it need to?

Re: Soapbox: Nintendogs Prepared Me For Life As A Dog Owner, And Now I Want A Switch Version

GilbertXI

@NintendoPok so you can yell at someone else for having an opinion but whenever someone else says something you deflect criticism by saying "it's just my opinion". Perfectly reasonable logic. What makes you think shes a bad owner anyways, if the dog could even sit still for that picture, then she's clearly doing something right. She never said nintendogs was the go to for any dog advice, so no need to get super defensive over everything.

Re: Ubisoft's God & Monsters Is Now Officially Known As Immortals Fenyx Rising

GilbertXI

@nessisonett right? You might as well call every shooter a Doom or Wolfenstein clone, or Mario and rabbids: kingdom battle an xcom clone. Stamina wheels for climbing and/or swimming is a revolutionary game mechanic cause botw did it so well. Of course developers should use it or something like it, especially if it is exploring oriented.

On topic, I'm cool with this, I'll check it out at the event. As I said in another article, if this and far cry 6 are shown, I'll be happy. and my prayers have been answered, that's a first.

Re: Tokyo Game Show 2020 Lineup Announced

GilbertXI

@RPGamer I have no reason why I like physical over digital, I'll choose physical any day, but I don't bother hunting down all the Indies from limited run and things.

A remastered ace attorney collection would be nice, and maybe the rumoured new monster hunter game for switch could be shown, that would be great.

Re: Tokyo Game Show 2020 Lineup Announced

GilbertXI

@Friendly I prefer to own my games and physical, also I like the ips of Sony, so I'm going ps5.

But for one thing, it's the size of the Xbox that people in Japan don't like. Not necessarily a problem anymore, but they had to reduce the size of the controller on the original Xbox. And first person shooters are not really popular there at all. Xbox is clearly trying to do better in Japan, but they just don't like the exclusives they offer. They might as well get the third party games on PlayStation. Also most people underestimate how much Japan likes handhelds, but xcloud could help with that.

Re: Paper Mario: The Origami King Almost Had EXP After All

GilbertXI

Okay, okay fine. I'm fine with this being an action adventure genre, but please, at least do something about Mario and Luigi. A big budget, console game of that would be a good alternative for rpg junkies. Or just focus on fire emblem, intelligent systems does that as well.

Re: Round Up: Gamescom 2020 - Here Are The Nintendo Switch Highlights

GilbertXI

Guilty pleasure, I love the Lego Star wars games. My dad and I played the prequel games together on our PS2, and I got the old saga one with all six episodes on the Wii as well. This and SpongeBob bfbb were my biggest games as a child. All of them came back in some way this year, so yay nostalgia.

Now only if they did something with sly Cooper and crash team racing, I'd be happy as a clam.

Edit: I completely forgot about nitro fueled when I wrote this, probably for the better

Re: Review: A Short Hike - A Landmark Game For All Ages

GilbertXI

@Friendly that's more than fair. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, whether good or bad, whatever. I find it fascinating what people quantify a certain game as a different score, especially 9 and 10s, cause those are the most hazy boundaries. I understand that most people just give a random number and move on with their day, but people like game reviewers and whatnot who are required to think about what score they give to a game. The anarchy that is the Last Of Us Part 2 user scores on metacritic are a fine example.

Re: Review: A Short Hike - A Landmark Game For All Ages

GilbertXI

@Friendly they had no criticisms, so why can't it be a 10/10. The game is just that-a good game. Its not trying to be the next breath of the wild, it just wants people to appreciate it, and I dig that. This site barely gives 10s ever. No game actually is a 10/10 objectively, so where do we draw the line? Where do we say this is a 10, and this is a 9? So yes, it deserves a 10/10 completely.

Re: Image & Form's New Game Is "Permanently Exclusive" To Xbox And Windows

GilbertXI

Ok, that's fine. Exclusives are the point aren't they, it doesn't affect their steamworld ip, so why does it matter? Consumer choice is the whole point, there is consequences, both good and bad, to your purchase. Why in the video games industry does nobody seem to understand that.

And yes it's about money. Money to keep the studio alive and to make said game. It's the same deal as death stranding what's the problem?

Re: Rumour: New Switch Model Launching Early 2021 Alongside A Strong Game Lineup, According To Reports

GilbertXI

This will not divide the install base if anyone is worried. That's like saying the PS4 pro and Xbox one x divided that install base. As long as they don't release exclusive titles to the switch pro or whatever, it's fine.
I need to do some research on the topic, but couldn't Nintendo just upgrade the dock, and keep the base switch the same? That would make the TV version more upscaled without sacrificing the battery and weight of the portable version (admittably at a lower resolution). But then again, that would really only appeal to hardcore fans, which is generally not the target audience Nintendo goes for. Hm, I don't know. Pardon me if I sound completely stupid, I don't know what Nintendo would do.

Edit: okay so now I sound stupid. The dock doesn't do much of anything, except connect it to the TV, and now I understand why people think of the switch as a glorified handheld now, even though it's classified as a hybrid console. But anyways, Nintendo could just use the AI upscaling with the Nvidia stuff to upscale to the TV. 4k will not happen on the handheld version I can guarantee that. I would prefer for Nintendo to prioritize frame rate over resolution though, or at least some sort of balance to make at least 30 frames stable and 60 frames in the realm of possibility without the game looking like crap. I'm still flabbergasted as to how the devs managed to get 60 fps on burnout paradise remastered on the switch.

Re: Physical Version Of Untitled Goose Game Won't Include Multiplayer On The Cart

GilbertXI

@Burning_Spear My thoughts exactly. As an amateur collector of games who already missed out on these last two generations,(except for a Wii with like two games and my switch) I can't play some of the greatest games of all time cause some bug couldn't be patched years later. Fortunately we have continuous platforms like steam, but that still means the physical versions on the consoles are reduced to being paperweights. My preference has always been physical, but In the future I might be forced to go digital so I can actually play the damn game.
Edit: apologies, I'm typing on a phone.
