Re: Bowser Tries To Explain Why Mario's Games Will Be Removed On 31st March 2021

@rjejr yes he definitely knows why, I never doubted that. But he could be fired if he says it like that. Rigged interviews are nothing new, if everyone quit because they can't say what they want to say in public about the people they work for, there'd be no jobs. He most likely likes his job, so I think he wants to keep it. I'm not here to tell him how to do his job and whether or not he should keep his job. It's none of my business. I'm not disagreeing exactly, but you are assuming this is all he does. He's a busy man, there are lots of jobs he has to do as president, he may be president, but he's not the head of marketing. It's just like how rarely presidents or prime ministers write their own speeches.

We don't know what Nintendo's policy is, it's not exactly public information as far as I know. He probably was straddling lots of company policy just for doing the interview on these fairly controversial topics. He is the president, that is correct, but he is not above the company policy. Not even the president of Nintendo of Japan is above company policy. We can't associate what he said to the interviewer with what his personal opinions are, that's all I'm saying.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this interview is technically a legal document. If for some reason Doug did something bad in Nintendo and Nintendo would press charges, they could use the interview as evidence in court for one reason or another. So anything a person of that level says publicly should be taken seriously, so of course he doesn't want to say anything that will displease them. I doubt anything that would get him in legal trouble would have anything to do with the topics discussed, but it's very important to choose your wording carefully, even if it were not entirely true or flat out dishonest.

@rjejr most democratic governments that have a president have some sort of congress or something of the sort to balance out the president's power, just take a look at the American government system. What you are describing is a dictatorship. Doesn't necessarily mean it has to work all the time, but the entire purpose is to make sure all parts of governments can meaningfully say they can't, that's the goal of a multi branch government system.

And yes, he did sign an NDA. Nintendo of Japan is the primary branch of Nintendo, Nintendo if America and Nintendo of Europe are just regional distributors and whatever, they do have different policy, but NoJ is the primary section and has the final say on everything.

Can people stop attacking the poor guy? He could literally be fired if he answers the questions in the way you want. I see this all the damn time, Aonuma for instance with the recent AoC controversy.

You are comparing the personalities of two radically different people. Yes, you need to compare the CEO to it's predecessor to judge if they did better or not, but you are not doing that. You are not comparing the two as CEOs, you are comparing them as people. You are essentially telling Doug to be someone else cause they liked that person. That is a little thing called harassment, if any of you have heard of it. Yes, I am aware that people compare anyone with a role like this in a company like that, but that means squat, just because a lot of people do it does not make it any less of a disgusting behavior. If that is one of the most abhorrent things a person can do to a person they didn't know existed until 2019.

No, you are not comparing them as CEOs either. The business practices of late that Nintendo has been under fire for have been happening in Nintendo long before Doug became president. You can criticize him for not attempting to make any policy regarding these awful business practices, but Reggie is as much to blame as Doug in that regard. It disgusts me that there was no criticism to Nintendo at this level until there were less games to distract them from these issues.

So how about criticizing the policy the company of Nintendo put instead of developers who are given a script and told to say it in front of a camera. Instead of judging a person's ability to be a CEO by comparing a persons personality to another person, judge their ability to be a CEO by the business decisions they make( this one is admittably hard, Nintendo isn't exactly transparent in these regards, but it is no excuse to be an arse) and the policy they enact to help the consumer. Instead of criticizing a developer for doing as they are told and condemning the entire studio for one bad game(starts with a Naughty and ends with Dog), criticize the person who made the decision and give constructive feedback, or better yet, actually criticize the game instead of throwing names around uselessly. Instead of going into literally every single comment section, live chat, or tweet and spamming the same incessant hashtag, keep it to its appropriate bounds and know who you should be criticizing. It's really not that hard to give constructive feedback instead of lobbing insults and spamming.

I needed to get that off my chest.

6/10 seems to be an appropriate score, people don't seem to understand that's not a bad score. Sometimes I think staying by the book isn't necessarily a bad thing, as long as it maintains at least some sort of identity. for instance, Twilight Princess didn't really innovate from the previously established Zelda formula, but that doesn't make it a bad game, the opposite in fact for me. Hollow Knight had some pretty standard metroidvania elements, it wasn't groundbreaking in that sense, but is one of my favorite video games of all time.

Hm....these comment sections have a habit of derailing extremely off course.

Note to self: keep popcorn around for even the most innocent articles.

Edit: about the mandalorian, this just makes me want a star wars game in the same vein as Bounty Hunter, but with a bigger budget and scope. Doesn't even need to be about mandalorians, heck, Ill be the throwaway background characters in The Box episode of TCW for all I care. I just want to go pew pew bounty hunter.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Congratulates Xbox On The Series X|S Launch

GilbertXI

@Zuljaras problem about censorship is no developers like it, making them opt out of the console all together. Or if Nintendo or Microsoft comes up to offer an exclusive deal, they will be more inclined to take it.

$70 is not the end of the world, its just the implications of it. Its kind of already being shown, but the developers will keep on inching up the price, which will just make inflation go up even more. Its the fact that they are getting away with it this easily is what worries me,. Not to mention they're raising the price to 80 euros in Europe instead of 70 or so, not that familiar with the conversions, but either way a complete scam.

Lying not only about exclusives but about storage size and other things. It's just a hot mess.

I don't remember any controversy about SSD, it's the only thing that was not marketed poorly. But I have been taking a break from all news lately, for my own sanity, so I wouldn't know.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Doug Bowser Congratulates Xbox On The Series X|S Launch

GilbertXI

@Zuljaras i don't think they mean issue as in the console itself, but issues within the company. Lying to consumers, raised price tags, and just a general lack of transparency and thought towards consumers. Also their extreme censorship rules are starting to scare developers off. Not looking too good for them at the moment. The raised price tags are making me wait till the summer, there's really little need for me to get the console until at least horizon forbidden west or ragnorok comes out.

Re: Mother Is Getting Its Own Pop-Up Shops In Japan

@nessisonett @Yanina I mean, they could just take a page from Disney's book(first and most likely the last I'll ever say that) and give it some warning of stereotypical connotations, like what Disney did with Peter Pan on Disney+, make sure to denounce it before people get their pitchforks. Maybe raise the age rating to T/16 or 12, it would most likely have gotten an E 10+/7 or maybe 12 otherwise.

Also, i think anyone who wanted to play it knows about the Magypsies by now.

Re: Poll: Do You Play Your Switch More In Docked Or Handheld Mode?

GilbertXI

I play docked, but with the rest of my family using the TV, I still use handheld a fair bit. I think it depends on the game. 90% of the games I play I play in docked. But some games like pokemon feel weird to me in docked. So that's an exception, I play pokemon strictly handheld most of the time. But yeah, I use docked most of the time, 80/20

Re: Two Brand New Doctor Who Games Have Been Revealed For Switch

GilbertXI

Umm....looking at the comments, a lot of people don't like doctor who. To be honest, unless it's dumpster fire bad, I have a hard time judging the value of a movie or show. Point is, I like the 13th doctor, and I really liked the 12th. I didn't even know people hated it until now. Ok, you do you.

Re: Moon Studios Would "Love" To See Ori In Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tells Fans To Tweet Head Of Xbox About It

GilbertXI

@UmbreonsPapa oh yeah, I know what you meant. I started getting off topic. My bad. My point was, that's basically what every fighting game is. The sequel is of essence just a port to any fighting game. It was like that in the first few games. 64, pitiful roster. Melee, breathed life and got a bunch of characters. Brawl, took out some fan favorites but replaced them with equally good characters, and added a magnificent story mode. Smash 4 introduced a lot of new characters and stages, and expanded greatly beyond Nintendo. Ultimate was the climax and culmination of it all. So now it can go one of 3 distinct ways.
1. Ultimate will be supported for a while but will be the last smash game, and maybe a direct port to the next console with only a few new bells and whistles. Which frankly, I'm pretty ok with.
2. They could do what you are saying and sort of soft reboot the series If I understand what you are saying. Make more diverse and mechanically balanced characters for the sake of a few fire emblem characters being chucked off. That, I also am pretty ok with.
3. They could just keep on making games with the entire roster. This, is probably the way Nintendo wants to go, and again, I'm ok with it.

I would be happy with either of these options, just unfortunately there will be one group who will be displeased. That was my original point, they kind of backed themselves into a corner here. But, I think option 3 is the best way to go. You make a very good point, but option 3 could of essence do that too. Now that there is a clear distinction between fighters and echo fighters, there could be a wealth of options coming up. With the current roster, more focus could be done to characters currently to make them unique. I keep on using the example of link being completely changed this game, but I think that is a great example. Instead of storing them away for another game down the line, they could stick to the characters and make them unique, maybe even Steve unique in the future. I don't think this will be instantaneous though, this will be long term. But maybe In the future, Daisy, dark Samus, and Lucina will be great and unique characters in their own right. They definitely have the source material to do so. In fact, we've already seen this in this game. Every single DLC character, even Byleth whether you like it or not, have been incredibly unique in their own right. And the newcomers to this game in general, par the echo fighters, have been unique. Incineroar, Simon, K. Rool, Isabelle, Ridley, Inkling, even Chrom and Ken have all been fantastically unique characters. Also the most balanced I think as well. I do think Steve was an odd case, I think that level of difference in moveset will be rare even with what you are proposing. cause that took ages to develop. And Steve will most likely be nerfed a few times before he's balanced.

So yes, your idea could work, and yes, my idea could work, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I'll buy it, whatever it is. I'm confident Sakurai knows what he is doing.

Re: Moon Studios Would "Love" To See Ori In Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tells Fans To Tweet Head Of Xbox About It

GilbertXI

@Jmjfrank look at my mammoth comment above and you'll see how I feel about it. Seems like a reasonable way to go, just some port or a straight sequel with massive balance and design changes, with new characters and story mode. When, hopefully before the next smash game lol, MP 4 and BOTW 2 come out, I'd like to see how they change the kit for Zelda, Samus, or even Ganondorf from source material. Like what they did for link this time around. Finally distance Ganondorf from captain falcon.

Re: Moon Studios Would "Love" To See Ori In Smash Bros. Ultimate, Tells Fans To Tweet Head Of Xbox About It

GilbertXI

@UmbreonsPapa no matter how mechanically sound the characters are, it would still be considered a step backwards by most people, ESPECIALLY the competitive community. Which is gigantic I might add. They've written themselves into a corner, that's all I'm saying. This is why I hear people saying that the next smash game should be just a souped up port of ultimate, which I think might be the best way to go, in terms of value, finance, and poor Sakurai and the rest of the teams sanity. Building a game from the ground up, especially a fighting game, no matter how little characters there are, is a gigantic task. Because if there is only a small amount of characters, every single one will have to be perfectly balanced and have to land.

Now, I think smash is technically sound and one of the most balanced fighting games I've played, especially of it's size and scale. Some characters are definetely more balanced than others, but there is no completely broken character like say Bayonetta from sm4sh, or meta knight from Brawl. Getting back to my original point, smash does have some middling or broken characters, and I firmly believe in quantity over quality, but the sheer quantity OF quality among some dull ones is impossible to ignore. It is one of the games I think truly goes above and beyond to deserve the $60 price tag, because I'm hopelessly addicted to the series. Throwing it all away would be a waste of code, models, animations, and quality. I don't know if that makes sense or not, I think weirdly.

Not mention conflicts with story mode, and the purpose of the series in the first place: To bring video game franchises together to beat the snot out of each other. And a celebration of gaming in general. I think it has been like that since Brawl and arguably Melee too. Mario and Zelda(two of my favorite franchises of all time, don't get me wrong) no longer really symbolize nintendo, Nintendo symbolizes Nintendo. ARMS, Splatoon, Pikmin, Metroid, Pokemon, subsidiaries of Mario, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Mother, Kid Icarus etc. the list goes on. The point of Smash is legacy, throwing away the characters and storing them will take away all the achievements and spirits/trophies/whatever, or at least decrease its value. That's the point I was trying to make, Sakurai awakened a dragon unknowingly when he signed that deal with Konami to put Snake in smash all the way back in Brawl, and it would be more trouble than it's worth to try to put it back to sleep now.

Now there could be other ways to make something focused on Zelda or Mario, they did it with Kirby Fighters already. Nintendo is open to the idea of doing this it seems. A fighting game based off of Zelda completely would be a dream come true for me. Maybe not as technically sound as smash, but still with the same ideals. Again, I think quantity only beats quality when there is a large quantity OF quality.

OH BOY do I love to ramble. Sorry about that, maybe I should make a podcast, although I don't consider my voice to be the most soothing...

Me over here with a shrine to hollow knight wishing for Sakurai to provide. Probably gonna be a Mii costume If anything. A man can dream.

Jokes aside, that would be sick. Definitely not this fighters pass or even the next one if there is one, but maybe whatever is next. That reminds me, what are they gonna do for the next game? They've kind of put themselves in a situation where if they get rid of some characters, it will already kind of stumble.oh well, we'll see.
