Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit wasn't the only racer discussed during Super Mario's 35th anniversary Direct. In addition to this, Nintendo announced a special new "Super" Mario Kart Tour event fueled by nostalgia.
This event runs from 8th September (that's next week) until 22nd September and will feature special appearances from Mario (Super NES) and Donkey Kong Jr. (Super NES) from the original Super Mario Kart game, which was released in 1992.
If you would like to get to know these two particular characters a little bit better before this retro event starts, you can always check out the original Super Mario Kart game via the Nintendo Switch Online SNES service.
To see various other recent updates to Mario Kart Tour on mobile, view the game's official Twitter page. Will you be returning to the track when Mario and Donkey Kong Jr., arrive next week? Tell us below.

So is Donkey Kong Jr the Donkey Kong we all know and love if the original arcade game had Cranky?
It'd be cool if Kamek got in, especially due to almost taking DK's spot in MK64.
@nessisonett
Depending on the person from Nintendo or Rare your asking, Cranky is either DK's father or grandfather (Makes you wonder what happened to DK Jr.).
This game just keeps giving (and all for free). Stopped me buying MK8 Deluxe this!
@Toy_Link Damn, Donkey Kong canon’s as complicated as Star Wars.
Whether or not you like Tour, this is seriously cool and some great fanservice.
isn’t DK jr just younger Donkey Kong?
DK Jr is just a Walmart Diddy Kong.
And before you say it, yes, I know DK Jr came out before Diddy Kong.
I tried the game out today. It's fine. I'll just play this event for the reward.
I’m surprised no one really got super excited for the return of Donkey Kong Jr. Aside from being a Smash spirit, he hasn’t made an appearance in decades!!
@Northwind
Would be really cool to setup a tournament mode on the original SNES Mario kart for SNES online
I might care if MK Tour wasn't a complete dumpster fire.
This summer festival was boring. I hope this next one has better challenges and not a complicated way to get the green coins.
I love this game and it keeps giving. Free
I tried the game again after the landscape option was added in an update. It's still awful, just doesn't feel like Mario Kart, controls are still terrible and it's like you're only half in control. I wish they'd add a 'classic Mario kart' controls option.
Wow! But I also want Cranky Kong and K. Rool in Mario Kart Tour.
Last time I played I wasted 5 throws and all I got was vehicle accessories.
No love for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the Super Mario celebrations? Could have added a costume or something like they did with Breath of the Wild Link.
Ma boy donkey Kong Jr is finally getting the attention he deserves.
@JohnnyC Mario Kart 8 is old news. Who needs that when you have Mario Kart Tour and Mario Kart Live, right?
@Yosher Agreed, nobody does. Just all the people keeping the online community active and keeping the game in the top 10 charts for the past three years. Only those few. 😀
Awesome, ANOTHER Mario alt.
