Ah, how I wish games like this were still made. If you really think about, it was such an absurd plot that spans over the period of one day. I mean, no saving princesses or worlds from destruction and peril, but simply finding your way home and meeting interesting characters along the way, being asked favours and doing absurdly simple and trivial tasks, which sometimes turn into very dangerous and over the top missions. And with such a bizarre, yet simple plot, mixed with a fitting setting and visual style, a whole new type of gameplay experience opens up. Conker's Bad Fur Day is an interesting and very hilarious take on how various creatures, animals and everyday, real-life inanimate objects alike can become playful, show colourful personalities, communicate and interact in strange and whimsical ways with one another, only to keep the player entertained for hours on end, with very little to no down time or dull moments in my opinion. I remember going to the rental store and seeing this game, thinking it was another innocent adventure game starring a squirrel ...boy was I surprised when I popped it into my N64 in my room that day haha I don't think they would've let me rent the game if I wasn't with my father there.
I'm hopeful these types of games will make a comeback someday. Also had a blast playing countless hours of multiplayer with my buddies. Thank you N64 for the more-than-two-player capability.
Man, I'm really tempted by that promotion, since I'll defo be gettin' me some VC DK, but I don't like downloaded modern games. I much prefer collecting physical copies instead :/
Seems odd. I really saw this as a sign of GC Virtual Console coming soon. Oh well. Is it really that complicated to make a controller compatible for games? I don't know much about that, and it seems like a banale thing to me, but from the looks of it, it's really difficult I guess.
The bright side is . . .you get to save some money again
lol They could just say that the reason for not wanting to release for Wii U is the concern for lack of sales. You know, honesty earns you respect. But whatevs
Wow, a lot of extra detail on the the environments and surroundings for a mere racing game, oddly. It makes me wish you had the freedom to go around and explore those mountainous terrains, battle monsters and what not
Wow. Makes me question if Nintendo released a slightly under-powered console. I mean, I know it's typical for them, since that's been their game since the very first GameBoy, but now in 2010s technology is exponentially changing and improving, so you gotta pump your product up with some more juice to keep it dated and longer lasting. I thought the New 3DS will bring minor improvements that you won't feel for the most part, but having a game as grande as Smash sacrificing some feautures in order to run on the regularly intended system is a bummer. Personally, I couldn't care less about this, as this is a pretty banale feature to begin with. If I'm playing a fast-paced action game, then I most likely won't interrupt myself, especially with Miiverse and Internet browser. But hey, you might, so all power Plus I'm not very crazy about Smash Bros. anymore anyway, so I don't see myself picking the new pair up anytime soon.
I just hope this isn't a sign of things to come though. I hope we won't have any other high profile games sacrificing actual important and relevant features [looking at you LoZ and Super Mario].
All I can think of is ..that's a pretty sucky fence. I mean, c'mon Murica, I thought you could do better than that lol You have the money to finance men with guns and equipment, yet can't get a proper fence. So much paranoia too, understandably I guess, but all done upon themselves. Surprisingly he didn't get shot, soo that's a relief
@Mega719 Oh okay. Then that's even odder, why would they want that? I'm assuming to raise more awareness of their game (make Nintendo fans feel more connected), since we all know how immensly popular Nintendo's first party franchises are and that other games tend to be disregarded. Meh
Okay, this is getting kinda outta hand. It was interesting at first, when Nintendo started to do these things a while back (in some fighting game, Tekken I believe?? then those silly Monster Hunter...etc.), but recently it seems to me that they blindly keep throwing costumes around into more and more games just for the heck of it. I know they're probably trying to say, "oh, we're working on a Star Fox game, keep a lookout for that", making a reference and what not, but doing it in such a way that it sacrifices some of that untouched exclusivity of a certain title is becoming tasteless. It's basically a way of connecting all these different franchises and making it seem like Nintendo really loves to compliment themselves, as well as limiting a sense of...variety, for lack of a better term.
To me it's just, "oh look, an awesome-looking game that has nothing to do with any of Nintendo's main offerings, and one that seems completely different from the usual...this could be a fresh new addition and a welcome change of pace, perhaps expanding an audience and bringing in some more non-Nintendo crowd...wait..." and then great, yet another first-party element added to a seemingly disconnected and untypical game.
I mean, I don't really care, since I'm a Nintendo fan for their first-party titles, but it is a bit bothersome that this costume thing is going on for almost every major game lately. I can imagine stuff like this being a bit off-putting to some. Hopefully it's just a fad, as it makes Nintendo look like they're really in love with themselves lol
..just my point of view
It's nice to see some other kinds of games gettin' the spotlight hit on them, despite my preference for Nintendo's 1st party / main franchises; Mario; Zelda...etc..
Hopefully my fav games won't be exclusives to this, as that would mean I'd have to dish out a lot of cash in order to play them. But on the other hand, I would love to see my fav games utilize this potential, faster CPU; better 3D...etc.. So I don't know, kind of a dilemma (kinda hoped they'd hold off until next gen for a completely new console to come out, this is just too soon to be improving on minor changes I feel). Supposedly Luigi's Mansion needs a second stick, but they came up with a clever, perfectly suitable and functioning work-around for that, so if we ever get some more Zelda or Mario this gen, a respective sequel to Super Mario Sunshine (or a remake) for example, then hopefully they figure out a way to maintain its compatibility for us regular 3DS users. I'm sure LoZ won't ever need a second stick though, so I'm not too concerned there tbh..
"...if the base is very small", well then contribute to making the base very big. Maybe it's "small" because of that kind of attitude players / consumers hear, resulting in this ironical, paradoxical dilemma. How else is this base going to grow if it doesn't have more options? If it doesn't have the games that people perhaps want, that people are holding off for. I couldn't care less for Minecraft, personally but I'm sure many would want to play the Wii U way, with the power of the GamePad
Wait, so do you only get the different coloured Yoshis and Shy Guys if you preorder both packs (before release of the first pack), or can you get them later on as well? I don't quite get that, or maybe I've just missed a piece of information. What if you buy the packs once they come out, like...let's say, in December you buy one pack and preorde the other, do you still get the Yoshis and Shy Guys?
Yes to new courses. No to branching out to other franchises. Link...hmm, I can deal with, but c'mon, the Animal Crossing characters? :/ I wish we could seperately choose to just get courses.
Hmm..not so much love for Super Mario Land, Wario Land, and NSMB2 :/ So I guess I'll go with those then Not quite sure why Wario Land is there, apart from having the Super Mario name in the title, it's a different series, but oh well (same as Yoshi's Island). Each revolutionary Mario game could be argued as the best, so this poll pretty much is redundant and meaningless as people will basically choose their most 'nostalgic' game from here without any true, unbiased criteria, and to me that would have to be SM64. Although, I have mixed feelings on that one, since SML for GB was my first Mario game I ever owned (possibly the first one I've played) and I played the HECK out of that game, as I did with its respective sequel (which is undoubtedly a bit of an upgrade from the graphical and gameplay side of things, thus arguably 'better'). Now, this would kinda sorta be a slight blow to Miyamoto unfortunately, as he wasn't the one that actually created those games, so those two Super Mario games remain as the most unique and 'bizarre' (for Super Mario standards) games of the genre. So for nostalgic reasons, I go for SML, SML2 and SM64. If we were to actually judge accordingly, then I would say Galaxy, because that game took Mario platforming to a whole new league and blew everyone away with its grande presentation. It may have some minor flaws (some of which may have possibly been fixed in the sequel), more or less, but overall such a game can only age well and be looked back upon with high glee. SM64 paved the way for a lot of gaming trends, ideas, inspirations and possibilites, so for that aspect alone one could rightfully claim it, not only the best Mario game, but video game in general. Plus it had amazingly tight controls, making the game a joy to play. But we have to admit, its age is kinda showing, despite being still fun to play to this day. I'm kinda sad NSMB2 doesn't get mich love, since it's such a fun platformer that many fail to admit, I assume. It seems to me that a lot of people jump on the bandwagon with that one and shout "rehash...recycled...etc..!" But I, for one, truly and honestly find NSMB2 really really enjoyable. Sure, it's definitely not up there some some of the other ones, but it most certainly isn't down there as being the scum of the Mario platforming games. That being said, I cannot decide on single game from the list, so I'm a just randomly pick one somehow
Didn't read the article. Don't really know what it's about. But all I'm gonna say is that there needs to be a change. The VC needs to change, or "progress", for lack of a better term.
@smikey Oh, well that makes sense. I was wondering why we're getting so much Megaman. But still, it seems like an overdose, if you ask me. Maybe I'm just biased though
So. Much. Megaman. Every week it's Megaman (it seems like). I'm getting tired of it. Man, we haven't got to see some Mario in a while, while Megaman steals the spotlight, being offered, like, 6 times more than Mario or Zelda combined jeez. There are so many games out there waiting to be offered, and yet...Megaman lol Nothing changes in the eShop. No new consoles added. No news about it. Nothing :/
If they do do something like this, then let it be something well thought through and out, something of higher value and worth. Of course, Zelda Williams should acknowledge this first and rightfully take part in the concept. She knows about LoZ enough and I'm sure her contribution would make the Robin Williams tribute all the more meaningful.
I always wondered, why are all these Smash fighters side by side readily facing the same direction, like they are collectively about to all battle someone or another group of characters? Aren't they supposed to fight each other I like the art though (as well as this simplistic, yet detailed-enough style), and seeing these characters in a flat, 2D, B&W illustration (as opposed to its shaded, popping, 3D variant on the box) shows me how cool a comic strip would be. Link and Mario look absolutely bad ass here But on the 3DS it looks a bit of a cluster fudge mess. Too much going on, too many lines and details and therefore doesn't suit it well as, say, a normal little illustration like a logo or something imo.. (especially when looking at it from far away)
Yeah, not too fond of the gameplay style, but I really want to explore all these different environments and stages, which puts me in a dilemma :/ My main concern regarding this game is that it will simply end up being eye candy and that the only interesting part will be seeing all these different mash-ups and visiting familiar, modified and unique new places. I'll definitely wait for reviews, which I'm prediciting will score 8 here at the very most.
I haven't read all of this yet. I'm excited for this game though. I thoroughly enjoyed the first one. I'm a huge fan of old-school, jump'n'run platformers, seeing as Super Mario started it all for me with my love for video games Only thing, will this sequal have co-op / multiplayer of sorts? I feel as if that'd be the most ideal addition this time 'round.
I would like to see asymmetrical co-op, as well as an extra battle mode a-la Dark Link with live players. As for the story co-op part, they need to find a clever way to incorporate a second player, where it wouldn't hinder your progress if playing alone, such as have a decent AI partner. Man, this is the kind of co-op I wanted to see in a 3D Mario game, 2-player asymmetrical, but for Zelda...I can't think of how this could be implemented accordingly :/ I could imagine parts of the game being similiar to how near the end of Majora's Mask you had to alternate between controlling Link and Kafei on that respective mission. Those kinds of puzzles could work well with 2-player co-op I assume, but for some other parts it could be tricky to come up with something and have work-arounds.
