Bayonetta 2 will arrive exclusively on Wii U on 24th October in North America — it's still just 'October' in Europe — which is exciting news for fans of the original or those that simply like intense, fast-paced action games. Even more exciting news is that Nintendo's preparing to ramp up the excitement for the release with a new Nintendo Direct.
Nintendo of America has confirmed the broadcast for 4th September, which is also the Nintendo Download Update day.
This Direct is focused on the upcoming Platinum title, though will be interesting to watch for new details on the game's features and perhaps the odd surprise. As Nintendo's proven recently, it's more than capable of stunning its fans in these broadcasts.
As you can see above it's all happening on 4th September at 3pm Pacific / 6pm Eastern / 11pm UK / midnight CET. We'll be providing the usual live stream, blogging and coverage here at Nintendo Life. Will you be joining us?

Ah man 11pm damn kinda late but fitting in a way.
Bayonetta in Smash.
Awwwww, yeah!
I'm just waiting for a Smash-related announcement. We all know it might happen; Snake is from a pretty mature series and he made it into Brawl
I'm hoping for an announcement of a collector's edition like the Blue Shell Mario Kart 8 and Link's Scarf Hyrule Warriors ones they've done. Which also includes the first game...
Nice looking forward to this
Bayonetta in Smash would be awesome!
Bayonetta will be a trophy in Smash, nothing more.
I'm ready to be proved wrong.
It's nice to see some other kinds of games gettin' the spotlight hit on them, despite my preference for Nintendo's 1st party / main franchises; Mario; Zelda...etc..
Looking forward for the Direct! Also I'm on the team of Bayonetta for Smash, please!
Déjà Vu linked to the Wonderful 101. I just hope I'm not being presumptuous.
You guys disapoint me by not reporting on #operationplatinum...because you guys sometimes report on things are only marginally related to nintendo. Why not report on a nintendo fan movement that is a reaction to the situation in wich nintendo is now?
@DakotaM47 Yeah keep dreaming lol
Another smash character nice !(jokes) This game is top of my list cannot wait this and smash can tide me over until MH4U comes out only 3ds atm
The funny thing about this, is somewhere Sega's upper managment is smiling all the way to the bank. They get a cut of this game's sales since they own the IP, and they don't have to lift a finger.
Even if this game bombs, Sega is still a winner since their only investment is letting Nintendo have the publishing rights.
With that said, this games does look awesome. I really hope it does well.
I just want concrete info on the special edition in EU, they've been to vague and confusing so far.
Last month had a hyrule Warriors direct. This month has a Bayonetta 2 direct.
So by following the pattern.....Next month will be..... Oh hohoho. I'm liking this already.
When I heard there would be a Direct announced today, I was hoping for a general direct. Two game specific Directs in such a short span of time? I'm not interested in Bayonetta 2 anyway, so I'll pass on this one. It's cool for the people who are interested, though!
A demo would be nice. Maybe from now on every big Nintendo release is going to get its own dedicated Nintendo Direct?
Demo! Last demo (of any importance) on Wii U was Plats W101 last Aug (bought my Wii U the next day to play it)
Just preparing you all, after SSB and CTTT get release dates I need something to complain about.
I would almost guarantee something besides B2 shows up in this vid.
Aw...just Bayonetta 2? I hope we get a Captain Toad or Smash 4 Wii U Direct soon...
Finally some more info on this epic game.
@Captain_Toad - SSB should get an Oct ND for a Nov release, and CT a Nov ND for a Dec release, but I like the way you think.
Actually just dawned on me CT cant get a release date until SSB is done. Im assuming CT is probably ready to roll and theyre still trying desperately to finish SSB before Christmas, so whatever month SSB gets, CT gets the other. CT already has Jan in the UK so you know its close to done.
Bayonetta climaxes in! So the Direct will be on September 5 midnight here in Italy? LOL.
Yes finally a Direct only talking about the gorgeous Bayonetta
I rarely get into M rated games, dunno why...tried getting into Assassin's creed, no luck. I sucked at TF2, and Half-Life 2 was fun and all that but got boring after a while, lol.
Anyways, this one looks a little interesting, so...gonna give it a chance...eventually. Got Smash 3DS to deal with that month. xD
If they put Bayonetta in Smash, I will cry tears of joy. She's a perfect fit. Please please please please...
I have a feeling the Direct will reveal: "pre-order Bayonetta 2 bundle on the eShop and get to play Bayonetta 1 now/earlier! "
Bayonetta in Smash
Fun as these game-specific Directs are, I wish they'd finally give us non-Japan people a general Direct again! Still curious about what they're gonna reveal for this one though. I doubt they'll put Bayonetta into Smash, but you never know. Would certainly rather have Bayonetta than Snake, anyway.
I'll tune in. Enough with these Smash jokes she's obviously not joining ever
@Captain_Toad Smash? Please be Smash! Oh Captain Toad is also welcomed too.
Come on, another single-game Direct? :/
I want the multi-title extravaganzas back. I've always felt like I just couldn't miss those, whereas I'll probably have no problem about just watching the highlights of this single-game event the morning after.
So that rumor was right that there was going to be a direct announced today. I didn't believe it, but it's nice to be proved wrong.
@midnafanboy Peacock approves? @DiscoGentleman Even with Shulk's hasty reveal I doubt that leak even moreso due to the Pic of Today that was today.
Hype! I am so ready for this game.
Thank you for the heads up, Nintendo. Now I know not to watch it. #SpoilerFree
@rjejr
"Just preparing you all, after SSB and CTTT get release dates I need something to complain about."
Well, after those you will have Splatoon, Yoshi, Giant Robot, Mario Maker, and all of those "undated" games. And the death of DDP, and Nintendo not using the second Gamepad, etc.
I will try to tune in, as that is exactly the time I finish my shift, which means watching the thing at work.
Honestly, I've never had any interest in Bayonetta. Maybe this Direct will change my mind, maybe it won't. Let's see.
Thinking something else has to be in this.....how much more can they reveal? Inteviews with personal I guess?
@Gerbwmu Didn't say solely focus so who knows.
Very excited for this, the release date will definitely be confirmed and I can't wait to hear more about the game, even though I think we've already heard a majority of it from E3.
Im just tryin not to over hype myself because regardless of what's going to be announced i want this game NOW! Once i get Bayo2 the only thing left to get is the Bayo2 5 disc soundtrack!
Just Bayonetta? I want to see some Mario Kart DLC footage and details!
@ModestFan93 Did they talk about anything else during the Hyrule Warriors Direct? Because this'll probably be the same style.
Bayonetta and Baby Bayonetta, new characters in Mario Kart 8!!! Yeah!! lol (I wish)
Still no original Nintendo Direct. When was the last one anyway?
@ModestFan93 Yes Peacock approves.
Bayonetta ND!? OMG I need to see.
Guys, Bayonetta in Smash would've bumped the game to a Teen rating easily... It's just not going to happen
Bayonetta will not be in Smash 4.
@Jazzer94 Same here.
I wish they'd hurry up and give us a proper release date instead of just October. This could be it though?
I'm looking forward to buying bayonetta as soon as it's out. Most likely the direct will clear up what region gets what. Maybe some unannounced exclusive? Hmm.
I wish Nintendo still did regulare Directs. As of late, they have only been doing game-specific directs, which is fine once in a while for a huge release, but I want the old ones too. In the old ones, it was amazing when they announced a game or gave lots of new details about games, but now while there are surprises, they are not quite the same as "oh, we are making a new Mario & Luigi game."
Not really a fan of these directs that focus on one game.
I will be stuck at work, and work unfortunately blocks gaming sites. If it's slow enough I may just have to either stream it watch NL updated on my smart phone
Maybe Nintendo should get around to doing a Nintendo Direct which reveals the release date for Smash Bros for the Wii U.
No offense to Bayonetta 2 as I'm sure it's going to be a solid game, but Smash Bros is Nintendo's bread and butter this holiday season. That's what's going to bring in the money. Announce a release date already.
@Diddy_kong Too soon. Wait until we get closer to the 3DS version's release date or even after the 3DS version's release date.
These game-specific Directs are far more important than the general Nintendo Directs as it gives each game the spotlight. Besides, there's nothing to reveal in a general Nintendo Direct right now (the new 3DS models aren't gonna be announced in NA till much later people).
There's still hope for this game to sell one million copies!
Not a fan.
Yes.
Nintendo's coverage of Bayonetta 2 has been perfect. They've been releasing just the right amount of info/trailers and not shoving it down our throats like they sometimes tend to do.
I would love to see a special edition with a midnight purple Bayonetta themed pro controller, that would be so damn sweet!
I hope Nintendo Japan do a Fatal Frame 5 direct before the game's launch this month too, very excited to see how its gonna play.
@rbmoura85
They did the same thing with Operation Decode, to bring Digimon World Re: Digitize Decode to the 3DS. Ignored the petition which now has more than 50k signatures!
Yesssssss. This is exactly what I want.
@Frank90 thanks for reading my comment, but i would say that #operationplatinum is more then a petition...its a phenomenom hapening with the nintendo fan base that its worth reporting on a nintendo specialized site...news sites are suposed to report meaninful events that revolve around their subject, and this is it! Its a reaction to everything that has been happening to nintendo since a long time, and news sites like this seem to only think that if they did report this, they would be giving views to potential competidors, like the youtubers behind this. I think your concern NLife, should be to report on the news, not to select them as they might fit your interests.
Yes Please
@sinalefa - OK, I'm a bit of a complainer
I'll probably be watching live as well, but since we already have a release date I dont know what I'll be commenting about.
I know some others won't agree with me mostly because Snake was in Brawl probably but I really hope she's not in Smash. She just doesn't seem fitting to me and is a little too on the "muture" aside than I care to have in a game like Smash Bros. of course all I'm going off of is the trailers I've seen for the game. The trailer starting off talking about hell like its some cool place is kind of a turn off for me to begin with really. Just my preferences though.
@S3OL they already gave us a release date. It's releasing October 24.
Already getting a Wii U in two days and can't wait for this game. But I don't know if I'll have enough cash to get this in the same month as Smash. But I will get it, no problem!
My body is ready to go directly to bayoneta's
Yes, Bayonetta!
I'm not really interested in Bayonetta (and I wasn't too interested in Hyrule Warriors honestly), but I'll watch the Nintendo Direct by virtue of it being a Nintendo Direct. Maybe they can convince me to pick this game up!
@Captain_Toad um, Captain Toad?
Have Bayonetta 1 available after the Direct ends. So those that never played the original have a chance before the new game releases. Then whatever the price is ($10-$20) have that amount discounted off the price Bayo2, for those who bought Bayo1, when it releases.
Really think we deserve a new 3ds Nintendo direct!
@Captain_Toad
Next will be Sonic Boom Direct?
Too late for us Europeans since for some odd reason we are not getting our own Direct.
Oh well, have to watch it later on Friday morning from NoA Youtube account.
Really excited about this game, maybe the biggest game release of this year on all platforms, especially now that Affordable Space Adventures has been postponed to Q1/2015.
This and Captain Toad's TT are the games I'm most looking forward to this year, although we have to wait an extra month for CTTT. Smash is third.
I'll be surprised if there's anything in the direct that we don't already knows about, it already feels like it's been hyped to death already.
I'll be watching in the UK. Gives me an excuse to stay up for the Packers and Seahawks. Hopefully it'll cover Europe as well.
All I care is if there's a demo. With all the other games coming out this fall, if they want me to buy it this year they need to let me try it. Besides, we've not gotten any new Wii U demos in a while.
So no actual Nintendo Direct??? Ohh well, this better be good and actually give out information on the game!!!!
I'm getting the feeling that, yet again, this livestream won't be available in my country... Nintendo doesn't want me peeking, I suppose.
@__Link__ That's only in the US though, Europe still only has the release window of October.
Really? There's already a release date for the Americas, and now a Direct? What about Europe? No release date except a very vague "October" - which is in four weeks already! - , no direct, is it even coming out?
And still no clear info on the different editions of the game...
Sometimes I question Nintendo, and their interest in the European market. Sometimes they give us loads of offers and special editions not available in North America, and then other times like now we don't get our own Direct or even a real release date. And with games like Captain Toad's Treasure, we won't even see it until next year!!
@FragRed I'm with you man; I just don't understand their decisions sometimes. I guess it wouldn't be Nintendo if they made predictable and understandable decisions though, huh? Lol
LAME! Give us a REAL Nintendo direct! WE HAVEN'T HAD ONE SINCE PRE E3!!!!
@MrGawain Yeah there better be some Europe info too
@Lycidas @FragRed agreed 100%! i know i moan about this Europe business all the time but it's just ticking me off! c'mon Nintendo, snap out of it!
I doubt that Bayonetta will be in Smash but if they did include her then....
all the leaks so far would be SMASHED to smithereens! I like that
Looking forward to this game! Can't wait to see if Nintendo has any surprises planned for this Direct!
@__Link__ In. Europe. -_-
All I need to know is details about the special edition. I'll figure out what's in the game when I play it.
I hope there's a surprise immediately after this ND, such as a 16-Bit Remake of Bayonetta available on VC at the end or N64 games are made available with Smash 64 being given away or free ice cream for all early adopters.
Interesting that despite this Direct being announced by NoA, the date in the pic is the European way round.
eh, guys, there IS an European direct!
https://twitter.com/NintendoDE/status/507051031973609472/photo/1
Another game specific direct; no thanks. Come on Nintendo, how about some general announcements for our region?
@Haxonberik
You take your country way too important if you think that the rating guidelines of the US influence game development of a Japanese company. If they want to add Bayonetta to Smash they will do it and if that influences the rating of the game in the US, it will be censored there.
@scamander I think it's the same direct. It says (if my german is good enough) that it will be 05/09 at midnight! And that 05/09 looks so american!!! Here in EU we'd say 09/05...
Getting this game for sure, it's a great deal but I don't know if I should watch it, who am I kidding, I'm gonna read some of the info anyway.. BAYO IN SMASH!
i been hoping for a regular nintendo direct i think its been a while now since we have one of those not counting the 3ds japan only direct =S unless i was wrong and they had a US/UK version of it
@Grumblevolcano @S3OL Oh I see. I thought it was the European release date too. I'm sure it'll be around that date.
@hcfwesker That seems incredibly plausible! I really would not be surprised if they did that tomorrow.
These single game directs are great but there is very little room for surprises in them. Compare the last ones we have had with the Japan only 3DS direct.
I wonder if they will release a Bayonetta Amiibo?
The timing of this does seem to point to something Bayonetta related popping up in the eShop update. If they gave me Bayonetta 1 to play before the new one releases, I'd be one very happy customer. That's probably just wishful thinking, though.
"Midnight CET." Soooooooo......tonight?
@DakotaM47 Ha ha ha-no. I really don't think bayonetta is ready yet. It needs more fans and the main character of bayonetta is the type for smash. it would be like throwing guys from COD in smash. It would be abit weird.
And is this direct going to be EXCLUSIVELY bayonetta?
@Xiao_Pai The issues is not the maturity. Its just the execution. Try playing a M-rated game that doesn't take itself so seriously. Like NO MORE HEROES or Saints Row IV or even Bayo.
@DaemonSword I think you mean Bayonetta and Cereza
@drewb0203 Last week.
@Haxonberik With how insane Smash is its gonna get a T rating anyways. Plus, the rating is a standard for the genre.
@millarrp They will put it up on YouTube as well.
@Kolzig Its probability because Kamiya will speak Japanese a lot
@Lasermaster123 But there were still empty spaces.
@Link506 What about Shulk? Bayo has sold more copies than Xenoblade.
Surprised they are doing this, since we have pretty much everything that we need to know already. Nonetheless, I'll be watching! Day one buy for me!
@SamirMalik Really? Huh. I'm just going by I've never heard of either of 'em until like a week ago. Except bayo, I think i've heard about that a couple of months ago. Possibly becuase they're not really up my alley.
Meh.
I thought it might have been something I'd actually give one flying **** about. Like some cool new Wii U news akin to what we got recently with the 3DS or something. I guess there's still a chance we'll see something else that's actually interesting (to me)...
Don't care about this game in the slightest.
Great, looking forward to be surprised, so I'm not going to think too much about the possibilities (hope often leads to disappointment anyway)
I DO however hope -for that it's been too late since way back- that she makes it in Smash Bros, she gets a Wonder-Eyes Pink, Pikachu, Palutena, Battalion Wars, Pikmin, Okami,... costume, and we get a special edition with steelbook and two discs at least. And the animated movie, so 3 discs. Art books, statues, limited edition controllers, all welcome.
Looking at my list now, I'm ready to take some minor dissappointments.
At least also make a surprise reveal of another Platinum exclusive!
...
Bayonetta special edition and her appearance in Smash.
Maybe Fatal Frame (anothe "adult" game) will be announced for the west in this Bayo Direct? I hope so!
question - where are nintendo directs broadcast live (the main location)? nintendo website? this will be my first time watching a live nintendo direct.
What can it be?
I never played the original although I almost bought it a couple times. The closer this gets the more I'm thinking about picking it up. The added bonus of getting the first one free with the second is a bonus.....although, I would need to play the first before the second! How long of a game is the first?
@A1234 According to the official Nintendo site here: http://www.nintendo.com/nintendo-direct/09-04-2014/
I haven't watched a single ND on Nintendo's website though. I'm hoping that Nintendolife is going to stream it like they did with the 3DS specific ND last week.
Great but what about us in the UK and EU ?? we have to hear it from america and look up for are selfs.
Anyway will be watching at 11pm uk time lets hope we get the limited edition like america with Bayonetta 1 & 2.
I've already reserved Bayonetta 2 but I'm not sure Bayonetta 2 by itself constitutes a Direct for itself. Unless Bayonetta is suddenly announced to be playable for Smash. Then the internet would explode.
@SamirMalik I mean a Nintendo Direct I can actually understand.
@BensonUii I didn't even think of that. Man, I hope you're right!
@evosteevo
Nintendo could pull it off without alienating their retail partners. Bayonetta 1 is just a bonus content on Bayonetta 2 retail discs anyway. They aren't selling it separately on retail. So they could just pull a pre-order on eShop like the MK8 DLC bundle and release Bayonetta 1 after the Direct. They could also sell it separately and offer a discount later for Bayo2.
When Wonder Red doesn't make in Smash Bros, being a new Nintendo franchise and directed by Kamiya himself, then I am almost certain they won't have Bayonetta in either.
But as others have mentioned, this could be the announcement of an extravagant collector's edition. Or the announcement of some ridonkulous release event. Or simple a big media blow-out leading up to the release.
@FlaygletheBagel All Nintendo fans MUST buy this game! We need to support our console! I am not a big fan of the game till now, but DAY1 for me! And who knows? I may fall in love with it!!
@scamander You are not seeing it the right way, the game has already been rated E10+, this would've been different if they had included Bayonetta. They could've but it's obvious they didn't. Also, I'm not from the US so stop making such quick assumptions.
