Shin'en Multimedia's FAST - Racing League was one of the best titles to grace the Wii's WiiWare service, and when the German developer announced that it was producing a sequel for the Wii U eShop back in 2013, fans were predictably excited.
There's been little news on FAST Racing NEO since then, but Shin'en has ended the drought with a brand new screen taken from the game. It doesn't show any racing action as such, but gives an idea of how grand the tracks are going to be, as well as the overall high standard of the visuals.
While there's not much to go on, this single screen should hopefully pave the way for more images — and hopefully video — from the title. Let us know what you think by posting a comment below.

Finally but like you said I'm not to sure what to say about it.
Are you sure this is taken from Wii U? Because it looks fantastic.
Wow hope that's in game
@Azooooz troll
@PinkSpider I'm not trolling. I'm just amazed by this screenshot.
Considering Nano Assault Neo looked gorgeous, I'd say this is definetly on Wii U and probably ingame aswell. Cannot wait to see more of this game
Lookin good, can't wait to see more.
Yummy!
I'd bet this is from a PS4 version of that game. But I'd be glad to be wrong
It's directly from the game and from Wii U.
There's a 1080p version available as well (open it in a separate browser window):

Finally..
@Manfred Any new information about the game would you like to share with us?
@Manfred It looks really good, can't wait to see the actual ships/cars.
WANT BADLY! Need for FAST intensifies...
@Manfred Any news on the trailer release date?
The first game was pretty damm good. With more content like tracks cars and modes it would be a fzero killer. I hope this game does well even on a smaller scale.
Can't wait to try this game. The Wiiware game was better than most Wii retail games.
Ahhhhhhhhhh instant buy from me
You know, I loved the general look and feel of the original but thought the inclusion of having to collect those orbs kinda ruined it entirely. I was half and half on the whole switching colour thing, mainly because I think the choice of black/white was so dull and think going for something like pink and blue would have just looked more appealing (which might be what they done if that screen is a wee hint). I'd like to think they've totally removed the orb collection but I can see what looks like the colour switching zones, in pink this time, so I'm a little worried the orb collecting is still in there too.
Honestly though, I rather it was just a straight up F-Zero style racer without any obvious gimmicks because I think it was strong enough to work on that basis alone personally. I'd be happy with just the switching with no orb collecting however. At the very least, it would be nice if there was an OPTION to race in "plain" mode only; where it's just you, your opponents, the tracks and your driving skill.
Also; can you hurry the hell up and show us some proper gameplay footage finally...
More than Watch Dogs
Great job on those textures. very close to MGSv look. Can not wait to get my hands on this. lets all hope it has online multiplayer racing so i can take a break from MK8
@Manfred Please create your own thread here on the forum about this game. I'm dying to know more about the game.
I hope they just rip wipeout off completely to be honest. Sony have let it die and won't r making another wipeout for the next few years.
Hopefully it's not one of those motion or touch controlled racing games. They suck.
I also found the orb color thing very confusing rather than enjoyable. Please minimize that aspect.
Graphics look phenomenal. Day one if they pull this off!
Wow, a lot of extra detail on the the environments and surroundings for a mere racing game, oddly. It makes me wish you had the freedom to go around and explore those mountainous terrains, battle monsters and what not
@Kirk I'm with you on that one. I thought the game held up on its own (especially for a Wiiware) and the orbs made it into a cerebral puzzle as well as a racer.
Hopefully they've been using the last couple of years to make an F-Zero mode, Wipeout mode and they can keep the orb collecting as a separate mode. 3 Futuristic racing games in one!!!!
Wow! That's stunning, the same level of background detail as MK8 but also realistic graphics, impressive!!
@Nintenjoe64
Yeah, I'd be up for that. Three modes that play to the strengths of the two top futuristic racing games of all time as well as Shin'en's own take on the genre.
Whatever happens I really would just like a mostly pure racing Option at least though (with the colour switching zones if necessary because that wasn't too bad in and of itself).
Id like to know what engine they are using, because from a first glance, shadows and lighting, the overall tonality and saturation look a tad like what the FoxEngine produces.
@Manfred thanks for the screen shot, there's been very little to keep us going so far
Could I just ask if you plan to update the game, if successful, with dlc and content? Since nano assault was an amazing game with a superior engine to most retail games. It was a shame that it's flaw was limited content, you guys did the hardest bit but more levels would have been perfect for that game!
Regarding that screenshot...
Apart from the slightly regimented placement of the little shrubs, I think it's looking very nice.
Maybe needs a little bit of anti-aliasing on the polygon edges but that might just be in the screenshot and if it's not just in the screenshot then it's probably not really noticeable during actual gameplay anyway. Just thought I'd mention it though because you never know who's reading our comments
@Einherjar They are known for using their own in-house tools.
Danke Manfred!
And now we want more, morreee, MOOORREEE and FAST hahahahaha continued crazy laughter
I'm not a huuge fan of racers, but I'll buy this day 1 no doubt. This is about as close to a AAA 3rd party exclusive the Wii U is going to get. The visuals and the online are the hooks for me.
@Nintenjoe64 @Kirk
I agree with your points regarding the orb mechanic, could be without
on the Wipeout/F-ZEROthing, I would much rather have it move in the direction of X-treme G (especially XGIII), the best futuristic racer imo, nothing beats breaking the sound barrier while blasting your opponents with your railgun in a co-op campaign..
@McGruber Please dont use the term "Triple A" for games like this...
Thats almost an insult to FAST
Just give me a release date!!! Been waiting for this game since they announce it. Nano assault was awesome(and still is) and this one will be even better.
@Einherjar You're right. I should have said "AAA quality"
@PvtOttobot I'd say it looks nicer than mario kart 8 if it is in fact how the game looks
Dear Shin'en,
Please dont listen to anybodys suggestions, just continue doing it your way. It will be awesome I'm sure.
Thank You
@McGruber For me, "triple A" implys a mass produced game (franchise) that mostly consists of content created to cater towards mass appeal tests results.
Shin'en on the other hand is known to put MUCH more effort and love into their titles, pay close attention to little details and often derives from what the masses cry out for.
Just look at their shooter series. Instead of following the trend of just putting together a flashy twin stick shooter that simply looks gorgeous, they went several steps ahead and created a love letter to arcade enthusiasts, with deep scoring systems and difficulty thats beyond brutal if you want to achive anything past "stage clear".
For me, thats pretty much the polar opposite of "triple A", a term, that has long lost its initial meaning and status
But thats really nitpicking on my part, please dont think that im picking on you or anything Thats just my weird way of saying how freakin great Shin'en is xD
Some repetitive textures, but it certainly look pretty! Really excited for this game.
Wipeout beater..? If this was on 3DS, maybe that would be a relevant issue.
F Zero beater? Arguably thee game to beat for Nintendo racing purists?
I'm not into racers, haven't bought one since Segat GT on the Dreamcast.
But there's going to be pressure on this game to deliver.
At the same time, with this out there, Nintendo may be convinced they don't need to do an F Zero.
Wow…now this should be the New F-Zero…Nintendo make it happen! Shinen u had me at hello…
Also ladies an gentlemen remember the Wonderful 101 soundtrack is available now on itunes/sumthing.com TEAM UNITE UP!!! #OPERATIONPLATINUM
If it plays as good as it looks we are in for a treat.
Awesome! But.... That's it? Either the game's release is really far off or they want to keep it as secret as possible just like Nintendo back in the day.
Though, that just means I can stay excited for much longer
That's incredibly beautiful for an e-Shop game. Kudos to Shin'en!
Looks amazing. Can't wait to see more!
Looks great but I need to see this in movement. Come on, Shin'en throw us a bone, will you?
It looks fantastic but that's no surprise really,it was always going to be.I'm with the others though in hoping that the orb collecting has been scrapped,I found it distracting from what was otherwise a solid racer.Maybe the difficulty could be reduced just a little too haha. There was no margin for error at all in the original.
Nintendo should pick this up for a disc release. If we can't get a F-Zero game this would be a good alternative.
I was blown away by the graphics in Nano Assault Neo. Can't wait to see that level of detail in a racing game (since it's a genre I much prefer).
@kukabuksilaks
I tried playing the first two Extreme G games the other day and thought they were pretty bad. Guess I should try the third one at least. The breaking the sound barrier thing is cool. I always thought that.
Edit: Ah, it's on GC. I'll not be playing it then.
wow this looks absolutely amazing!
Woah it looks amazing.
Damn... forgot about this game. I remember those guys in an interview before stating how the Wii U had more power than people gave it credit for. Looks awesome! But, I need more screens!
One screen?! Big woop.
Give us a full trailer with release date.
I normally have a policy of not buying games for the sake of them, but I might have to make an exception. Even though I have all the racing I need between Need For Speed and MK8, I may go ahead and squeeze this one in. The enthusiasm and charisma of this developer in refreshing!
Impressive. Cant wait to see this baby moving.
If anyone can spin gold out of sh** it's Shinen. Playing their games always gave me the same boner I got from the first time I compressed a huge HD video using H.264 some years ago and saw the resulting file size like "wait, the file is HOW small now?! And it's still 1080?! No friggin way". I would think they could run a company just creatively compressing assets in some way for other developers, really astounding stuff, keep it up.
@Ren AFAIK, it's stable at 60fps according to what Shinen said in late June this year. And the hi-res version of the screen shot now published is in 1080p.
Immediately reminds me of the Extreme game on Gamecube - which I loved!
Maybe this game will scratch that itch and get people to stop whining for a new F-Zero for a while?
Haha I kid, I kid....but yeah! Looks really impressive if that's an actual in engine screenshot!
Release this please, I'm there
I WILL buy this game ^_^ . Everything Shin'en does is solid gold, and I love golllllllllllllllld.
Great stuff.
absolutely gorgeous!
The first one already was, considering size limits, but this will be even better. I'm just hoping that Shin'en will greatly increase the number of tracks, up to 20+ individual ones, but please, don't make them as narrow as Storm Creek...
And if you're keeping phase switching, totally different routes depending on the phase of your racer would be awesome!
Probably unrelated, but did anyone else suddenly think of Xenoblade Chronicles X when they saw this screenshot?
Looks great. I've always enjoyed futuristic racers. Can I request some high quality electronic music for the sound track so I can pretend this is Wipeout?
@AVahne Yeah. The environment reminded me of it (not the racetrack of course).
Wow. Based on the screen shot it looks more next gen than watch dogs
Wow. Based on the screen shot it looks more next gen than watch dogs
Hoping for some more colourful levels as well, but otherwise this is real pretty! Keep it locked at 60 fps, please, Shin'en!
YESSSS
Can't wait I still play fast from time to time it was one of the best wiiware titles available hopeing to see a video and get a release date soon .
Can't wait, also this Dev has already shown they have the skills to make great visuals, not to mention great game play as well with nano assault neo!
Now I do wish more Nintendo devs would do better sound mixes, even Mario kart has weak multichannel sound... 😢😢😢
I'm sold! What a great developer and great programmers. Maybe we can get rear fire weapons on the gamepad??
@Azooooz I'd say its gonna take awhile still before we reach the height of the WiiU's capabilites. Screen looks amazing seems they put alot of more work into it then you're avarage WiiU dev.
WOW!!
I was starting to worry this was never going to see the light of day, I'm so happy about this picture, I want to marry it.
Shin'en - Beating a dead
horsefranchise since 2011.Damn that looks beautiful. Danke Shinen and definitely a day one buy.
@Azooooz It's really zoomed out, not THAT inpresive.
Nintendo, just give me F-zero...
Definitely getting it, looks pretty great.
@RaphaBoss Ya know, I still fire up F-Zero GX on GameCube from time to time to get my fix. Game still looks as beautiful as it did it's first day of release. I suggest you go back and play GX, maybe unlock The AX Cup or something to get some new tracks, because the fact of the matter is I don't think we're going to see an F-Zero for quite some time. But I tell you what, GX has never been more fun, and still plays great today.
But if you are gonna hold out hope for a new F-Zero, be sure to support this game when it releases, because if FAST Racing Neo doesn't sell well, we definitely won't ever see a new F-Zero. Whether or not it's the truth, low sales will be perceived by Nintendo as a lack of demand for the genre. And chances are they'll probably be right.
Phase 1: Miyamoto approaches the developer and urges them to change the title to F-Zero U and incorporate the F-Zero characters like he ruined Star Fox with Dinosaur Planet from Rare in 2002.
Phase 2:...
Phase 3: Profit!
@Ren Your analogy brought a tear to my eye!
Shin'en are wizards. If they get a hold of a PS4, they will recreate life.
They should produce a full retail game for wii u...
They should get Shin'en to make a new F-Zero game...
I loved fast racing league!!! But after this, Jett Rocket 3 must happen.
Considering my love for all things F-Zero, I probably will get this like I did the first one. But for the love of all things Nintendo, why doesn't the Big N just give the F-Zero franchise to Shin'en to churn out a new game?
@Terrible_Majesty If they made a game for PC... Great Scott...
@JaxonH I don't have a Gamecube or even a Wii. I tryed playing it on Dolphin emulator, but the game is near unplayable. I really wanted to play it.
@Kirk XGIII on GCN is an awesome game. I hope you get to try it someday. Maybe you could have a trial with an emu....
Very nice screenshot!
