Last October Nintendo launched the first 2DS models alongside Pokémon X & Y; it's clearly a strategy that worked well, as the hardware and games will be intertwined once again this year. Nintendo has announced new transparent 2DS models, and also related bundles with Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire.
The basic models, in red and blue, are pictured below and will launch as standalone sytems on 7th November in Europe.
Following that the following bundles with arrive on 28th November; each contains their relevant game pre-installed on the system's 4GB SD card.
In addition Nintendo has confirmed UK distribution details for the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire demo in October, and you can check those details out right here.
[Update: The Official Nintendo UK Store is now offering pre-orders for all of these bundles and systems, details right here.]

The blue one looks SOOO cool, I might just have to pick this up...
Woahhh! I've never tought we would see transparent handhelds being released again! We're on the 90s! :'D If this are released on America, I will definitely get one! I love transparent consoles.
Yes! Transparent handhelds FTW!
Now to convince myself I need another 2DS...
Wow, love the look!! Reminds me of my old game boy pocket!! Wii u next please =)
I love transparent handhelds! If only they were a good 3DS model and not this 2DS thing.
Funny that the speaker holes don't match the speaker position so that they are directly above the circle pad.
When's the last time we had a transparent Nintendo handheld?! This is getting me nostalgic.
If only the New 3ds wasn't coming next year...
God I neeeeed dis in my life
Seriously I've wanted a new transparent handheld for ages but instead of it being a 3DS/XL it had to be a 2DS which I'm not keen on at all.
WoW!!!!! Transparency.....since when did we get one after Game boy line?
They look awesome! But I wish that they don't come preinstalled with the game as I rather buy games physically than digital.
They look so good! I love how you can see the whole screen that the 2DS uses.
Also: Technically, it's translucent
So beautiful Still love my Gameboy Neotone! I really wish this was a colour option for the New 3DS!
@Artwark the article says its releasing standalone Nov 7th
why even buy this? unless you are a collector... and last octuber? has it rly been that long since the 2ds was released?
So want one of these but I'm gettin new 3ds please bring us transparent new 3ds'
If I remember correctly, for the regular new 3DS one of the covers you could buy was transparent like these ones. I might have to get one of these if they release here in NA.
Yes, yes, yes!
These systems look sweet and remind me of the glorious Funtastic series "watermelon" red N64 system I had back in the day, which was one of the most beautiful console systems I have ever owned.

It really was sooo nice, especially with the matching "watermelon" red controller and the glowing red power light the system had too.
Now; Nintendo just has to release the New 3DS systems in a similar range, because that's obviously the 3DS system many of us are now going to actually want, and indeed the Wii U imo (because ANYTHING that helps sell a few more Wii U consoles is good)...
Also, preinstalling the games is an all-round smart move on Nintendo's part imo because here's a situation where it can save the company a few bucks (which it's desperately trying to do in every which way it can) in a way that most consumers will actually accept without any major complaints in this day and age, because after the whole smartphone and digital revolution it's now what they're used to and it actually saves on having to cart the physical games around anyway (which is ideal for handhelds), so it just makes sense. Doing the same with Wii U would actually make sense for Nintendo too imo although if Nintendo does do that I think it should maybe include two free digital games, with at least one being an open choice where the customer can go online and choose from ANY of Nintendo's digital Wii U titles.
Imagine that...A "watermelon" red Wii U (console and controller) with 2 digital games, one of your choice from ANY of the Wii U's digital games, for the same standard Wii U price...possibly even with some other extras in there too, like the new 'improved battery' GamePad by default, maybe even a large hard drive (say 500GB) so it becomes practical to store all you games directly on the system (without the need for external storage), and on the service side finally a proper unified account system where you can even cross buy/play certain games, permanent cheaper prices for the Virtual Console prices across the board (let's say half the price) and MAYBE EVEN the simple OPTION to activate basic CD/DVD/MP3/MP4/AVI style playback (blu-Ray too if that's even possible on Wii U) for a small fee for those people who ACTUALLY WANT IT...
That's awesome, it brings back memories of my N64 controller.
I love the look, but on a 2DS it is absolutely pointless.
Is this a possible reference to the transparent red/blue cartridges for PokéMon Ruby and Sapphire? Either way, it's been a while since Nintendo sold anything transparent.
@allav866
Probably
Those things are gorgeous! Too bad I've already invested in a 2DS, so if I get a second it'd probably need to match...
Just like the good ol' days
I love the look of these. This is the excuse I need to get a 2ds!
Look so nice! I think I need a 2DS.
I opted for the Sea Green model with MK7 preinstalled; coming out in just 10 days!
Aww, I was hoping for ORAS edition XLs.
Oh well, there's always the changeable faceplates on the New 3DS models to turn them into Pokemon editions like the Japanese ORAS editions...
Now this is something I could get behind, should it arrive over here.
@Vineleaf My Sea Green 2DS just arrived a few days ago(the standalone was sold out everywhere in stores around) and it really is pretty.
It looks alright not enough for me to buy it though.
I love the idea of transparent models. When my old DS Lite's hinge broke, I replaced the entire shell with a transparent blue (kept the white buttons, screen frame, and d-pad for an ice effect).
THEY'RE LIKE THE ORIGINAL GAME CARTS HOLY
Well, I must admit it'll be hard not to get a 2ds before the new 3ds launches in Europe. Prefer games not to be pre-installed though... And preordered the steelcase games already. Hm, choices...
Now I'm a bit curious. Do you think they'll be bringing transparent cartridges? Loved the GBA ones!
Holy s***, now I'm ALMOST regretting that pretty Sea Green 2DS. Haven't had a transparent console in years ever since my original GBA.
EDIT: Though, if they were going to go with gray buttons, they should've made the sides gray as well, to give off more of a classic GBA feel.
No word for North America? Well, if they do eventually come here, I would buy a red one! I really like the transparent look on the 2DS models.
Woah transparent consoles from Nintendo once again! Loved my transparent brick gameboy from back in the day! Though for some reason this doesn't look as appealing. I guess it's the form of the 2DS that's unappealing to me? I don't know, something just seems a little off with the transparency. Maybe I'd like them better if I saw them in real life? In any case, not going to buy of course, New 3DS XL is coming.
They look so sick! Definitely reminds me of the translucent purple gameboy
So unfair... me without a job and Nintendo releasing all these gorgeous handhelds.
We need a transparent Wii U!! My first Gameboy colour was transparent And I would've sold my right arm for one of the transparent N64's they released!! Only had a boring black one At least I had one though!!
Ha, I remember when I wanted a transparent Gameboy Advance. I ended up getting the purple one as a present, but I was happy either way. Transparent consoles look pretty sweet.
Ahh I didn't know that. So getting one of these if they come here. It will be my backup one just in case my kids break their XL/2ds again.
Cool, when was the last time they did this? Glacier GBA SP?
OMG! I was recently moaning the lack of colorful, translucent electronics in recent years. Seeing a translucent N64 controller makes my heart squeal with glee. This almost makes me want to buy a 2DS. Almost.
Now if only Apple would make their stuff look like this again:

Please excuse my reminiscing over the late 90's/early 00's.
EDIT: Just realized the buttons and d-pad seem to have the letters/lines grooved in rather than printed on, as if to mimic the original GBA. If so, that's pretty freaking awesome.
I wondered when we would get another transparent system, didn't think one had come out for many years now.
Ooo! These look rather lovely, always been tempted by the 2DS line and that blue one is amazing... still that's money I should really save for a 'NEW' 3DS XL really isn't it?
I miss transparent handhelds still got my play it load clear
I want one, but I already have far too many 3dses.
Should I buy a 2DS now or wait and see if the price will drop soon? I want to have one in time to play the new pokemon games and the demo coming out in a few days.
