Re: Armillo Release Date Pushed Back Into May

G-64

For the sake of this game and this dev team, I just hope it doesn't end up disappointing like Jett Rocket 2 did with me. I mean, JR2 is a pretty decent game, but taking clear inspiration from Super Mario 3D Land, it had a pretty big feat to manage, which in the end, doesn't quite match up to my standards. The case with this game is similar, taking clear isnipration from Super Mario Galaxy and maybe even Zelda, it has to manage to be unique with tight, fully functional and intuitive controls, as well as being overall enjoyable.
If these games were't taking inspiration from Mario / Zelda and what not, then I wouldn't have high expectations, but I can't help myself, seeing as how JR2 was a bit bare-bones once I played it, even though it looks really polished visually.

Re: Armillo Release Date Pushed Back Into May

G-64

Meh, whatever it takes to make a game better.

Man, summer is gonna be one heck of a ride for Nintendo, starting May ..so get strapped. This is it. Once all these titles get released and once MK8 gets released, get ready for e3 and the reveal of Zelda U and expectedly many surprises DD

Re: Former Criterion Boss Alex Ward Laments Issues With Releasing Need For Speed On Wii U

G-64

@Rafie Yeah definitely, you have a point. It is all business at the end and third party will always do worse with Nintendo, at least at the moment, until a kind of revoltuion in the gaming industry happens and a threshold gets crossed, where Nintendo gains reputation of having class A 3rd party.

I'm just saying the developers made the Wii U version the superior one in this case, adding extra work into it (which I can appreciate), but they don't realize the fact that something gets devalued for already having existed on other consoles, especially nowadays, what with the internet and YouTube and what not, everybody can see footage, spoiling some of that early / first-time experience. I know it's kind of a weird way we think, but in the end, something has more ..I guess personal value when you have that feeling of being one of the first, you know.
So I was comparing this to Rayman Legends, and how suddenly from remaining a Wii U exclusive, Ubisoft (or whoever) decided to put it on other consoles, which is okay ..but that meant (for whatever odd reason) that the Wii U version, which was presumably a completed product, had to wait before being released, as to appease PS and Xbox consumers for not having a game come out later than on a competitior's console, which is kind of sad imo.. So whatever kind of bribing was going on there to make the Wii U version wait..hmm But as you mentioned, it's all business and that's how the cookie crumbles, so people have got to remain professional imo..

At this rate however, Nintendo will never cross that threshold I was talking about earlier, meaning that if they (along with 3rd party partners, I imagine) don't sacrifice time / money / resources, in which they get a decent amount of stellar and highly appealing 3rd party exclusives, thus drawing in some new consumers and doubters, broadening Nintendo's lost reputation, then they will continue to be shunned by 3rd party developers for not being able to sell their games. This is all because there isn't enough 3rd party appeal out there for Nintendo's somewhat 'kiddy' and 'family-friendly' image to change to a more bad-donkey one, gaining a broader userbase and drawing in the developers. And who's to blame them? These devs are getting frustrated with them, but there clearly isn't any appeal to their games when they're not exclusives and / or come out later than on other consoles. So somebody needs to change something in order for that all to happen. I don't know who and I'm not gonna point fingers, but that's how it is, I feel. I could be wrong

Re: Former Criterion Boss Alex Ward Laments Issues With Releasing Need For Speed On Wii U

G-64

This guy is real classy and diplomatic. Oh no, hard times!! Well, we all have them. You gotta remain professional, and in this business especially. Companies have different expectations and rules, and it's not always going to go your way. But w/e, I wish the dude and his lack of decency the best of luck in the future.

Besides, if you delay the Wii U version to perfect it (I appreciate that, for one), then don't expect all daisies, since you know ..the game would have been out on other consoles already. So why does Nintendo get this kind of treatment and other platforms don't. I mean, look at when Ubisoft delayed a completely finished product of Rayman, meant to be an exclusive on the Wii U, only to make it come out for all platforms simultaneously. Why couldn't you have held off on the other consoles' versions to be released at the same time as the Wii U's version?

Re: Review: Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (3DS eShop)

G-64

I prefer this version over the original. The small screen doesn't bother me much at all. It provides an extra bit of challenge and if you've got the levels mastered, then this is the ideal test of level memorization, in a way

Re: Nicalis Boss Tyrone Rodriguez Thinks The Wii U GamePad Is "A Waste Of Time And Resources"

G-64

One guy says this, one guy says that. I say the GamePad is awesome and I'm glad for it. In the end, Nintendo has the say and they should never feel obliged to listen to these little fish out there, especially if they are part of the minority. All in all, they made an ideal progression in terms of adding a touchscreen / second screen for the next console and imo it's a wonderful piece of equipment.

..and what's with all these developers lately finding 'flaws' in Nintendo's newest console? Makes me question their credibility and whether or not they're truly capable of coming up with new and innovative stuff themselves, utilizing the features they are provided with
Ok sure, I get it, your job is hard, it's not easy creating software, bla bla ..and we appreciate your work, but if you can't think of ways to create something that uses the GamePad for example, then be truthful instead of justifying the lack of effort, inspiration, know-how...w/e, on how the feature is a waste, cause it mo certainly is not in my books. But w/e, I guess developer quality nowadays is decreasing, people running out of ideas, it's all about the $€$€, wrong attitude, writer's (developer's) block...that's all fine, but maybe you're not set out to be a great developer, maybe you're not set out to be a developer for that matter.
Soo professional and not biased at all Oh well, whatever. Long live the GamePad

Re: Interview: Takashi Tezuka on Bringing Yoshi's New Island to the 3DS

G-64

@sinalefa Exactly with me as well. If I enjoy the game, then that's what matters the most. And I love it when games have that something something to them, that extra little bit ..that charm you mentioned. I can think of when I first played through 3D Land, there were many moments I cracked a smile

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

G-64

@PvtOttobot lol kinda ironic how you find SS depressing, yet you hope for the next Zelda to be like MM, which was one of the deepest and saddest of them all to me
Yea, I git ..every Zelda game has high highs, and low lows. I don't think there is a single Zelda game that has everything down and perfected, not even OoT, which imo. is as perfect as a Zelda game can get, but to be fair to the others, the combat system doesn't age well (which is quite simplistic for today's standards, but everything else is top notch about the game; story...etc..), despite still being classic and fun. I hope the next one will have all the best elements from the series jam packed.
..on second thought, I almost forgot about Between Worlds, which, when I think about it, does a lot of things amazingly well, and has very few things that I feel are out of place or wrong. The only thing I can think of is that the dungeons are a bit on the shorter side (still very enjoyable though).
So all in all, Between World is going in the right direction of a perfect Zelda game, and I only expect the next, the upcoming console game to expand upon it and be out of this world. And I do hope for a more varied experience, not just sticking to one theme or motive. I loved the seriousness and thematic of MM, as I loved the vibrance of WW and the cinematics and emotions, as well as motion controls of SS, and so I hope they add both ends and as much in between as possible, you know -the best of all the worlds, and not just choose one theme and stick to it. Have sky elements, flying on the Loftwing again, then riding Epona through fields like from TP, and sail the seas again. Have really dark and hopeless parts, like the first time you're a wolf in TP, and have majestic and triumphant parts..etc... SS was great, but it was too safe imo.. They had a water part where you ride a boat, but that was just a little too little for my liking.
Whew, anyway lol yea, I expect a great game and I have high hopes for the next one. I do know that I'd be satisfied, because that's how Nintendo rolls. They do pay attention to quality for that matter.

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

G-64

@EdwardCORE Not a bad point. But I see it as the developers having SD in mind when creating these games, so they accomodate the visuals toward the technical capabilites. Maybe Mario (as with other character models) would benefit from an upscale, smoothing out some of the jaggies and what not, but some objects or environments would look unnatural or odd. It's kind of hard to explain, you have to look at the difference of some things in SD and HD, such as the lava for example, which in Galaxy's case looks a bit 'artificial' and 'solid' for my liking, especially since the bit of blur effect gets taken away, compared to how natural and authentic the lava looks in 3D World, which obviously had HD in mind from start to finish. All in all, HD is a positive thing, but I feel it unnecessary in this case, unless of course games get a full remake treatment such as with Wind Waker.

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

G-64

@Melkac Hey, to you I'm wrong, to me I'm right ..soo, I guess we're dealing with subjectivity here then.

@PvtOttobot lol don't worry, I never meant you're an idiot
All I can say is, whatever floats your boat. SS is least in need of a HD remake / update imo. and I stand by that.
Now, I don't want to get into the gameplay side of things here, but I never had trouble with the motion controls of the harp, as well for anything else, but I can agree on the fact that the music aspect was a bit downplayed in this entry, considering the depth it had in previous games (when included), such as in OoT / MM, Awakening and Ages, even TP and WW. Overall, it's decent in SS and we have to take into consideration the fact that this is the first in the timeline, so things aren't going to be as developed as in the other entries, story-wise that is. I don't mind it at all tbh..
In the end though, different strokes for different folks

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

G-64

@PvtOttobot It was like that mainly because of the visual direction they took. It's an art movement called impressionism, which is all about sort, thick brush strokes, and blurred off distances, giving a sense of freshness and depth, so I wouldn't necessarily call it bad. Maybe bad for you, but that's a matter of taste, I guess. I personally found it suiting and perfect tbh.. It is perfect, because it is a clever and ideal method of working around the SD limitations of the Wii to make an outstanding-looking Zelda game, so I'd say SS needs an HD upgrade the least.

@Burning_Spear Exactly my thoughts. Galaxy should be left the way it is

Re: Video: What Could Super Mario Galaxy Look Like In HD?

G-64

I dunno, there's a certain charm about those SD games on the Wii. As good as it looks in HD, I personally don't feel it necessary at all to upgrade, since I can imagine the developers had SD in mind when creating these games, and that would kind of defeat a bit of the purpose imo., and go against the base philosphy behind creating the visuals as they have become.
We should just be thankful that we're getting class A titles from Nintendo in HD at this point in time and I cannot wait to see what the next Zelda, 3D Mario (in style of 64 - Galaxy) and the rest of the line-up we have in store, look once they come out. Just look at how gorgeous MK 8 is turning out to be, and it was made specifically with HD in mind. Now think about how MK Wii would look in HD. It would certainly look a lot cleaner, but would it fit with the character models and environments and what not? I think it wouldn't be as smooth-looking though.

If anything, I'd say Twilight Princess would benefit from a similar treatment Wind Waker got. From this list though, I'd have to choose Wii Sports Resort.

Re: Retro Studios Talks Up Wii U And Has Been Working On A New Title Since November

G-64

The man gets it. People have been blindly concerned about the console's power and therefore ignoring the beautiful games it has, which is so stupid tbh.. Why get caught up on having the most beast of a machine, when the whole point is to play the games, which the Wii U does quite well.

I really, really hope it's a 3D Donkey Kong game they're making next. It's pretty unlikely imo., but I really want to play something like DK64 -a true sequel, improved upon in all the ways. Oh, not to mention, the graphical / visual capabilities we have today would make a 3D DK game a truly outstanding experience. Just imagine it ..drooooool.

Re: Airtight Games Feels That Murdered: Soul Suspect "Doesn't Fit" On Wii U

G-64

To answer the posed question, no, he doesn't have a point. And no, you don't need a game to use the GamePad's unique features to be a great game. Sounds to me like this developer is trying to justify possible laziness (or incapability) from his side, because he is unwilling or unable of coming up with a unique way of utilizing the GamePad. That, and he seems to have a misconception about the Wii U, giving off an impression that to him, the GamePad was specifically made as a mandatory inclusion -as a means to play some touchy / slidy games a-la smartphones, not noting the fact that there is a fully fledged console behind all them GamePad features, as the article clearly states.

And you know, looking at this trailer, I gotta say, it looks interesting ..for a movie. So why not make a decent film out of it? It has all the elements, and could end up being a great paranormal / fantasy / mystery / thriller movie. I dunno, I kinda get reminded more of a move trailer than a video game trailer in this one tbh..

Re: It's Not Waluigi Time In The New Super Smash Bros. For 3DS And Wii U

G-64

@BAGBOY I see a lot of potential in Waluigi having his own little sub-series and I hope someday Nintendo do use him to create something different.
Rosalina being better than him (and even Peach) is subjective. Rosalina is a great choice imo., but why not Waluigi? Just cause he's a filler doesn't mean he shouldn't be fully included into something, since he could have easily had his own stand-alone game(s) by now, which incorporated his character and attributes nicely with some fresh, unique game mechanics. That's Nintendo's job, so I can't do much there, but I see him as an equel to Wario, no matter if Wario's been around longer.
Like I was saying with the circle, it's kinda weird seeing the three others, Mario, his counterpart and Luigi on the same level, but Luigi's counterpart ends up being non-playable. That's my main reasoning behind this. I don't really care though, I just find it a shame ..and kind of odd too. Oh well

Re: It's Not Waluigi Time In The New Super Smash Bros. For 3DS And Wii U

G-64

I think the developer didn't want to make the effort of putting him as a fighter. I mean, you got Mario, Luigi and Wario, so why not complete the circle and add "bad Luigi" too. Oh well. People are always going to complain about the Mario/Wario bros. being skins of each other and too similar and what not ..well, it's not about that imo.. It's about character preference. Some poeple like to use certain characters for various reasons. And besides, they clearly do have their unique traits and abilities. But whatevs

It wouldn't be Super Smash Bros. without Mario though, so he's the first character devs need to create.

Re: Review: Quell Reflect (3DS eShop)

G-64

This will be perfect practise for future Zelda slidy / ice-pushing puzzles
I remember being stumped on some of those for quite a while. I think I get those -if you don't get it right away, then you lose focus and won't get it any time soon moments, at least without taking a break lol ..I either get it on the first try, or my assessment fails me and I find myself pushing ice blocks for an hour.

Re: Weirdness: This Mario Golf Bag Could Help You Hit the Links in Style

G-64

Man, looking at those screens, I gotta say -the new Mario Golf game for the 3DS looks gorgeous with its crisply bright and vibrant visuals. It makes me wish it wasn't restricted to just golfing, cause I badly wanna run around in those fields and forests chasing rabbits, on those courses. I just wouldn't want to meet that humongous Goomba though

I kinda now wish we'd have a little eShop game where you can ride a sort of vehicle, such as a golf cart, an ATV or even a dirt bike through and across those fields, hills and meadows. Clearly with little objectives, perhaps even a full out campaign. Oh, and you could also go on foot, meaning you could get in and out of vehicles, kinda like a mini, Mario GTA ..equipped with online mode and everything, where you can create your own group and make up missions and do w/e lol jks

Re: Yoshi's New Island

G-64

@ICEknight All I know is that Takashi Tezuka, the man who had nothing to do with the DS game, is back for this one
Plus, judging from the trailers (whose task isn't meant to showcase anything too climactic and revealing, thus ruining surprises and spoiling the overall experience, but just enough to draw people in cough SM3DW cough ..duh) the game looks pretty darn fun to me, and doesn't seem to have anything significantly wrong with it. But then again, it's all a matter of taste, you know. Different strokes for different folks

As for how the game "should" look, I personally love it (sure, arguably everybody has some minor/major gripes here and there) and I don't feel like I'm the one to judge how a game "should" or shouldn't look, but you seem like an expert on this subject, so I'll take your word for it

Re: Yoshi's New Island

G-64

@SparkOfSpirit Nope, it's being made by the guys who made Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island ..but you probably know that by now

[P.S. Yoshi's Island DS is great imo.]

Re: Yoshi's New Island

G-64

How can anyone not be excited for this? Oh wait, I forgot. People are spoiled and never satisfied and also tend to oversee quality, because they can't recognize what's good -what's art
Can't wait till this little beaut hits my 3DS this spring!! [no review required for me, thank you]

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

G-64

@Action51 Yep, exactly. This drought may be bad if you look at it as a 'drought' ..lacking games or w/e. But if you look at it as a perfect opportunity to catch up on previously missed games, then there is no reason to whine/complain and what not. There are plenty games I've yet to play from past consoles and generations that I'm intending to catch up on, personally. I doubt the majority can even keep up with this pace Nintendo is offering us, as I can imagine many people end up with stacks of games waiting to be tackled, and yet they ask for more. I guess it's a psychological matter and people just want to see more, more, more to be able to say their company is dominant over others. I dunno, I'm not the one to judge

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

G-64

@gravesmeister Exactly. I feel like there is a more than sufficient amount of games out there. So people complaining they have nothing to play, either are very, very picky and are therefore not satisfied with the library at hand, just want their company to be the boss amongst other companies, thus wish to have a dominatingly massive library of games (one which makes it nearly impossble to go through), or quite literally have a lot of free time and can plow through these games in an instant. I'm not the one to judge, so I don't really care. I personally like to take my time and enjoy the great games at hand. I'm even behind on many of the games I still want to play, even from previous consoles/generations, so I'm quite pleased with the pacing and the line-up Nintendo is offering.

All I can say is, be happy with what you got people, cause you got plenty from Nintendo, imo.. Developers are also humans, and they can't consistently pump out games for us non-stop. Sure, Nintendo are a highly reputable company that consist of professionals and consumers have high expectaions, but there are bound to be different phases like 'droughts', as well as moments of content inflation. If this seems like a drought to you, to me it's a moment of 'catching-up'. Catching up on games I've missed out on and what not, you know. But everybody's different, and I can respect that. It's just some of this whining/complaining from a lot of people I don't quite fully understand. Just be content with what we've got and are getting

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct Pointed to Another Wii U Retail Drought

G-64

Wii U is......aah what the heck? Who am I to say what the Wii U is/will do...etc.?

Just enjoy the content and stop worrying about the status quo.

"Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze is right around the corner and arrives on 21st February, and we look forward to sharing our views on it; then, there's a wait."
That's great, but how 'bout instead of waiting, we play the darn thing

Re: Just 2% of Ubisoft's Q3 Sales Were for Wii U

G-64

@jayclayx Yeah, I guess you're right. You're absolutely right. I'm sorry, it's my fault for "bi!@$tchin'", and so from now on I will spend my hard-earned money on games for the sake of supporting someone who clearly puts so much effort in them ..and. I. will. like. it..
Thanks for opening my eyes, reliable source. You seem to know exactly who started this all -who was the first of these two companies that sparked the relationshop going bad between them. That's why all the delays are justified and what not

Re: Intriguing Data Helps Explain Nintendo's Smart Device Strategy

G-64

@spidey1010 People that are upset that Nintendo is not putting games on smart devices are usually ashamed of the brand "Nintendo" for whatever reason, I can imagine.
A friend of mine, who is the CoD/PlayStation type, showed me Super Mario 64 (him playing Bob-omb Battlefield to be exact) on his smartphone while we were waiting for the movie to start at the cinema couple years ago. It had a virtual joystick/buttons and everything, and it was the first time I've ever seen a full fledge console game running on a completely other machine, let alone on a mere phone (at that time at least). I was amazed, but at the same time, kinda baffled and deceived. I also thought about ..why?
So I can only assume that people tend to enjoy Nintendo content, but for some contradictory/hypocritical reason hide or are afraid of legitimately owning something that says "Nintendo" on it, thus having to retort to emulators on their devices and what not. That's why, I imagine, people get upset at Nintendo in some regards, and wish they would start releasing content elsewhere, justifying the reasoning as, "well they need it..they have to if they want to survive...etc..". But meh, it's all just some kind of messed up psychology. Too cool for school, I guess
Maybe Nintendo themselves are to blame for that -for this kind of mindset in people, I dunno, but I've learned that there are walking contradictions on this planet

Re: Intriguing Data Helps Explain Nintendo's Smart Device Strategy

G-64

"Brand awareness", that's exactly what I've been saying all along (I just couldn't fing th proper term ). Amidst all these technological advancements and progressions we've gotten lately, people have forgotten about Nintendo. Average consumers forgot what Nintendo is truly all about, and therefore Nintendo have to find a perfectly-balanced way of rebuilding some of that lost recognition, even reputation mind you.
Simply bringing games to smartphones is a no-no. That does not spell profit, and mindless consumers, analysts, investors and what not would love that, wouldn't they. In the long run, that could prove to be a self-destructive move in Nintendo's case. So I say stick to what you do best, expand the horizons a bit and embrace smartphones, but never fall under mindless pressure and sell yourself cheaply by listening to what some say about bringing games over and what not. Persistence is the key, especially through rough times.

Interesting fact, the GameCube had a major technical/graphical leap from the N64 and was a powerhouse in that regard. However, it was a very unsuccessful console, arguably (ironically). The Wii had basically the same technicalities as the GC, but that worked to Nintendo's advantage, as the devs didn't nearly require as much time to produce content for it. The Wii U is a reflection of the GC, as it is a substantially massive leap from the Wii, thus we've gotten little to no games in the beginning, and are still lacking a gradual increment in that regard. It's predicted that the next home console will reflect the Wii, in that it won't have to be significant graphical leap like from Wii to Wii U, mainly due to graphics having reached a necessary visual peak, thus devs won't need nearly as much time to get accustomed to and produce new content as they did for the Wii U

The Wii U is a great machine that we can immensly enjoy this generation, and Nintendo should use smartphones to their advantage and truly plan out something useful in bringing back some of that lost recognition. The when next gen rolls around, Nintendo could most likely be at the top of the food chain again with an ideally-powered system, and everybody will come flocking in Who needs Ubisoft?

So no need to worry peeps.

Re: Just 2% of Ubisoft's Q3 Sales Were for Wii U

G-64

Well, if the company were actually smart and put some decent effort in the system. I mean, every beginning is hard, but if you persist and stick with it you can achieve greatness in form of status or whatever. So, if this company hadn't have delayed Rayman Legends for starters, consumers wouldn't have been on a grudge about it. Things take time. If they keep thinking, 'oh w/e, nobody will buy it anyway', then nobody will buy it. If you actually sacrifice a bit in the beginning, and put out qualitiy content, no delays, exclusives, then there is no reason for consumers to not buy their games and build a trusting relationship in years time.
Like I said, if they choose to keep doing what they are doing, giving less and less support to Nintendo and believing the others are going to keep them alive, then the situation might backfire in the future. If they show some exclusive love to Nintendo (and to each console for that matter), then they are going suffer in the beginning, but soon enough prosper. Things that take time pay off. They seem to have lost touch with a portion of the gamers out there and therefore their reputation is not the best it could be. This is just my opinion on this subject and I'm probably way off, but I don't really care though for the most part
