UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 2nd October, revealing that Sonic Colors Ultimate has grabbed third place in its opening week on sale.
The game launched digitally on the eShop at the beginning of September, but a delayed physical launch means that it's only now started to make a dent in the official UK charts. The physical edition has sold best on Nintendo's platform thus far, with Switch accounting for 53% of the game's sales so far; 32% of sales came on PS4, with 15% on Xbox One.
Elsewhere, UK favourite FIFA 22 has unsurprisingly gone straight to the top of the table, selling best on PS4. The Switch version was the worst-selling edition of the lot – stick around for our full review, to be published soon, to see why.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

Fifa 22, MarioKart 8, GTA 5. Yeah, the UK charts are back at where you expect them to be.
Or what I predicted last week.
So the FIFA 22 review, you just going to re-post last year’s review and bag an early lunch?
Aaah yes, in Europe it’s always the F o o t i e game that always reigns supreme. Might get it on PS5, hope it’s a next-gen showcase and not a pay-2-win mess
Is Hot Wheels multi platform? FIFA is also number 2 on the Switch eShop.
FIFA UK retail launch sales:
> FIFA 17: ~1,108,000
> FIFA 18: ~831,000
> FIFA 19: ~623,000
> FIFA 20: ~579,000
> FIFA 21: ~336,000
> FIFA 22: ~218,000
The rise of digital sales will make up for some if not most of the decline in retail sales, but it's still clear that FIFA peaked in 2016 in the UK.
FIFA 22 Legacy Edition on Switch is actually the fastest-selling FIFA entry on Switch at UK retail, with 10,000+ copies sold (more than the Xbox Series X version).
@AmplifyMJ Yes, Hot Wheels is multiplatform.
For anyone who has it how is Switch Sonic Colors graphically? I know it's not on par with Xbox and ps5 but is it at least as good as Sonic Forces Switch? Is the framerate stable, albeit at 30fps?
@Carck
Last year's FIFA 21 was the first FIFA to crack the 50% digital attach ratio (~51% to be exact).
@Carck Also UK retailers have been giving away free FIFA 22 codes with Series S consoles. As they're digital codes, it wouldn't appear on these charts.
Even the other versions of Fifa this year are getting marked down as rehashes of the same content.
As someone who doesn't follow football but will play the odd game of Fifa, I'm not fussed about getting a real old version with older teams/players. They are normally very cheap when the new one comes out.
Lol FIFA.
Good for Sonic though!
@westman98 Only 200,000 for week one of Fifa 22? That’s interesting. Not that it really matters, but with a week two drop-off that means Metroid Dread actually has a chance of top spot next week.
Genuinely misread number 4 as 'Hot Weasels Unleashed' and I've never wanted anything more in my entire life
What is the percentage of sale of each platform for Hot Wheels Unleashed ?
@Krull
There is no chance Metroid Dread is selling more than FIFA's 2nd week.
FarCry 6 also launches the day before, so expect that to outsell Metroid Dread as well.
Played Sonic Colours since Saturday, haven't made the Update to see how it runs in its Vanilla State.
One Crash so far and once i've bounced out of Border (but i am not sure if it was my fault, was so fast ).
It is not as faulty as the News wanted to depicture it.
The Loading Time is longer than in other Games, but also not as bad as often mentioned.
Bad would be what Doom 3 Loading Times were before i've upgraded from 512 MB Ram to 1536 MB.
Bad would be what my C64 loaded back then.
Shame to see WarioWare drop out the top 10, though it has had the best debut in the whole series.
Also......
Why isnt anyone buying Cruis'n Blast?!?! 😫
I would guess, any gamer that is a FIFA fan plays it on Xbox or PS, I they have a choice.
@westman98 it's possible. The UK charts has had a significant change in the last 18 months and has warmed significantly towards Nintendo. If not launch week, I see it hitting the number 1 spot within the first 1-4 weeks.
Even though I won't be buying Ultimate, since I have the superior DS version with the extra boss & friends and better level design, it's nice knowing Sonic still sells better on Nintendo.
Wasn't Unleashed like this? The lousy PS2 port the Wii was graced with ended up outselling the HD version.
sells best on Switch yet was the one that received the least among of care compared to the other versions
@fox_mattcloud I want to, but here in Mexico, it seems no retailers have it available. It's only available on the eShop, which I refuse to get that way.
On topic: What is it about FIFA I don't get? How come it can sell that much each year?
Granted I'm not into sports sims, (I got offered a stupidly cheap FIFA 18 when I bought Namco Museum Arcade PAC last week but I rejected it), but I legitimately want to know.
@Ryan Its inaccurate that the Switch version was the worst-selling edition. The Switch legacy version of FIFA 22 accounted for five percent of the sales. Xbox Series X|S accounted for only four percent of the sales. Dunno about digital/promo sales though.
P.S: Anyway if EA weren't lazy and greedy they would try to make a Frostbite Fifa for Switch from the scratch like Capcom re-build RE engine only for Switch.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Digital Foundry have a video, its 30fps but had some additional issues if I recall.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I have it and I’ve never experienced any of the graphical issues described when the game first came out. Yes it looks just as good as Forces in docked mode. Stable 30 fps.
@fox_mattcloud I’m assuming a lot of people are like me - waiting for a sale. No way am I paying $40 for Crusin’
@Duncanballs
FIFA 22 is going to sell 100,000-120,000 retail copies in its 2nd week. FarCry 6 should sell about the same in its launch week.
The number of Nintendo that have sold 100,000+ copies in their launch weeks in the UK can be counted on 2 hands, and they are all among the biggest Nintendo franchises. That's it.
Metroid Dread could become the fastest-selling entry in the franchise by a comfortable margin and it would still not come close to outselling FIFA 22's second week .
@sanderev thanks. I wonder how the sales are split, always nice bit of extra information to know.
@westman98 maybe. We will see.
@marnelljm I paid £29 for it here in the UK. For a new release and one that's licensed by Nintendo, I thought the price was more than fair, especially with how good the game actually is. Easily one of the best racers not just on Switch, but anywhere. It is definitely worth the money. However, I also appreciate that not everyone wants to take a gamble like that too.
Yeah, good to know.
@TimGibsonPBS Hotwheels Unleashed is excellent - hope you enjoy it over SCU!
@Duncanballs
Trust me, I want Metroid to outperform FIFA's second week as much as anyone, but that simply isn't happening.
