Re: Review: Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX + - A Slightly Disappointing Port Of A Modern Arcade Classic

Einherjar

@BloodNinja Every console port has been this way because the arcade version runs on a double-display cabinet.
The PC version allows for a dual monitor setup in arcade mode and it's absolutely glorious!

Still, lord knows why they chose to port the standalone arcade version when a perfectly good console port of Chronicle Savior (Which features the arcade version, roughly 190 stages of CS Mode goodness, even more stages in DLC Mode and not to mention quite a lot more ships) already exists which can run on a freakin Vita...

Heck, even the price is similar!
This is simply a massive ripoff. If you have access to a decent PC, a PS4 or a PS Vita, get Chronicle Savior on one of those.
Costs the same, infinitely more content for your money.

Re: Inti Creates Is Bringing Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 To Switch In 2022

Einherjar

@Ardisan
"Stop looking into these games as though they are some spiritual sequel to Zero/ZX/X, ask Capcom for that."

Well, technically Capcom asked Inti for that to begin with xD

But i'm totally on board with you here. And truth be told, tagging was the one feature that took me the longest to wrap my head around as well. It just goes against the muscle memory build up by said MegaMan games.
But it's learnable and it's great fun once you do.

Re: R-Type Final 2 Won't Follow The "Bullet Hell" Trend Seen In Recent Shmups

Einherjar

@BloodNinja Oh, i have no issues talking about it, no worries ^^
We actually haven't found the source of it yet.
The best guess so far is Multiple Sclerosis, but that could never be officially diagnosed (You need proof of inflammations in either the spine or brain, and neither was found in me).
All we know is, that my nerves tend to spontaneously get inflammated which severely damages them over time.

That makes things like martial arts a bit...tricky
But i'm getting by just fine so far ^^

Re: R-Type Final 2 Won't Follow The "Bullet Hell" Trend Seen In Recent Shmups

Einherjar

@BloodNinja Absolutely correct.
With "moving all over the place" i specifically meant the "frantic dodging" most people instinctively think they have to do, while in fact, most games expect very deliberate, minimal and precise movement.

You're not dodging most of the bullets, you're literally telling them where to go while you go somewhere else

But all in all, what the Ninja just said! ^^

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

Einherjar

@SmaggTheSmug That would make much more sense if we were not talking about games and IP's that sell tons by name alone.

As much as i hate it personally, but Sunshine has been one of the most requested rereleases for decades. You couldn't possibly increase interest in that even more if you could.

And if its purely money, a far more sustainable business decision would be to push Nintendo Online subscriptions with exclusive games like an official FE translation.
That's fixed, calculable (long term) profit, not miniscule proits by an artificially scarcified NES game sold for pocket money.

Same with Mario35. It's a game you could milk with DLC.
5-10 buck packs with new themes, or even shenanigans like battle passes and such.

"It's all about the money" is all well and good as an explanation, if it would actually be the more profitable decision :/

Re: Nintendo Isn't Backing Down On Its Decision To Pull Mario Products From Stores This Month

Einherjar

Limited time, limited stock offers of physical collectors goods celebrating the anniversary of something many people consider their childhoods during a global pandemic which can make shipping difficult to impossible.

Yeah, i also fail to see the issue here to be honest.

As for the digital games. There has to be some kind of a spin to it. This is just way too arbitrary.
If it was just the Mario stuff, sure, anniversary over, done.

But that Fire Emblem game kinda throws a wrench into that.
They went the extra mile to translate an old NES game only to have it vanish on an arbitrary date for no apparent reason?

The game isn't even as significant as their marketing wanted people to believe. "First time ever this story is told in the west"...while apparently completely forgetting that they remade the title on DS before with a world wide release...

Oh well, we'll see.

Re: Poll: Bravely Default II Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

Einherjar

Already got it, but due to delivery issues caused by our lovely doomsday scenario it won't get here in time.

I've avoided as much spoilers as possible and only hope that is has less smartphone game-esque nonsense than the original.

Without streetpass, the whole town building aspect falls flat on its face. That means shops, gear and even bonus bosses are lost.

I really hope BD2 is a tad more future proof...

Re: Minecraft Dungeons' Flames Of The Nether DLC Pack Is Out Now

Einherjar

It might just be a local issue (Sadly doubtful) but for me, overall performance has actually become worse.

Now the camp has massive frame pacing issues and stutters immensely. Stages like the swamp which had problems before are now neigh unplayable. It still freezes a lot and, which is new, the camp now has plenty of broken textures.
Several ribbons on the shops are just plain black.

I really like the game overall, but technically it is a gosh darn mess that needs to be fixed soon...
We're two(!) season passes in and to think that a DOOM or a Witcher 3 manage to run while Minecraft Dungeons struggles and freezes... It's a sad sight...

Re: Feature: The Legend Of Zelda Is The Robinson Crusoe Of Video Games

Einherjar

@mezoomozaa Why not? It's a very stereotypical design for Heater shields.
The overall design is probably inspired by the knights templar, although the color scheme is off.

Basically, someone over in Japan looked into medieval European designs, found a templar shield and liked the design.
Plus, personal shields were a rather rare thing in medieval Japan if i remember correctly.

Re: Two Of Capcom's Legendary Street Fighters Drop Into Fortnite

Einherjar

Ryu looks fine if a little on the slim side but man, Chun Li is competing with her MvC:I counterpart in who's looking more off-model...

And seeing that they're genuinely asking ~22 bucks for a set of skins is baffling...
Well, not as baffling as the fact that people are actually willing to pay these prices...

Re: Controversial Rising Sun Design Removed From Street Fighter II's Re-Release

Einherjar

I probably never get the sensibility towards stuff like that.
Sure, there's no need to glorify regimes and their iconography specifically, i get that.
But instances like that, where it's simply an iconic style element found in a plethora of classic Japanese art, i really don't see the inherent connection to the navi.

It's a bit like we Germans banning/altering pictures of Buddhist temples sporting a manji because it was later misused by the 3rd reich.

I think what's bothering me is that context seems to become more and more irrelevant.

Re: Trails Of Cold Steel IV Locks In Western Release Dates, Launches This April

Einherjar

@Ralizah Technically, the PC is the only platform where you can get the entire series in one place.
But @nessisonett has a point. While the games / sub-series' are good enough to stand on their own, it is a tightly connected, ongoing narrative from "Trails in the Sky" all the way to "Cold Steel IV"

It's a shame Falcom didn't make sure one of their most excellent creations stays easily available considering its lifespan (And their obsession with porting Ys Book 1+2).

Bundle the older games together, get someone to finally officially translate Zero / Azure (Or license the phenomenal work done by the Geofront) and port it to everything with a current!

It's a series that deserves to be enjoyed from beginning to end ^^

Re: Top Hat Studios Issues Statement Regarding Demands To Censor Sense - A Cyberpunk Ghost Story

Einherjar

Based on the fact that no one seems to have heard about this game before even though it's trying to ride the cyberpunk coattail, i'll go out on a whim and guess it's a marketing gimmick to fish for "Now i'm going to support these guys!" people.

And let's be real here, we had plenty of cases like this in the past. ResetEra, one of the internets biggest and most wretched hives of scum and villany that still gets attention form the industry somehow, is infamous for such outbreaks.

But these outbreaks are petty and vocal. You'd have heard about it.

Also, making a Cyberpunk styled game and not using the yellow text meme to propose PR statements...weak PR game

Nah, i think this is a case of a boy who cried wolf.

Re: Best Of 2020: Sam Barlow On Bringing Telling Lies To Switch, His Directing Style, And His Next Project

Einherjar

"Being an intense, memorable experience up front is more important than replayability"

I have to strongly disagree. To each their own, but i prefer my videogames to be replayable and my movies to be intense, memorable experiences.

And i'll probably never get the appeal of these things either.
I fail to see the fun in watching a movie with an unnecessarily complicated "Chapter select" menu...

Again, if you like it, more power to you, i just don't get it.

Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered Gets A New Wonder Code, Here's Every Code Released So Far

Einherjar

@NEStalgia Very well put together! Perfectly understandable, even though i don't necessarily share your views, being one of the people where it clicked.

But i can definitely see what you mean.
While DMC and Bayonetta offered a similar selection of weapons and moves, W101 does so all at ones and has enemies that flat out require you to use certain things (Whip Vs. spiky enemies) exclusively and break up your bread-and-butter.

The thing is, when it clicks, this is also its biggest asset, as all these shenanigans can turn the table around and make it exceptionally easy.
But yeah, it has to click, these unite forms need to come naturally and fast, you need to be able to grasp the battlefield quickly and analyze enemy composition, where to put what team unite, watch out for incoming attacks etc.

You know, the more i think about it, the more it sounds like an RTS

Re: EA Has Swooped In To Steal Codemasters From Under The Nose Of Take-Two

Einherjar

To be perfectly fair, Codemaster lost their touch after DiRT Rally anyways. They made some really off-putting decisions after that one.

But no one deserves the fate of being in a tug-of-war between two of the most greedy and corrupt corporations in the industry.

Much like others said, we probably see a handful "Need for Speed: DiRT" titles and see yet another long standing dev go the way of the Dodo...

Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered Gets A New Wonder Code, Here's Every Code Released So Far

Einherjar

@NEStalgia What is the problem if i might ask?
The platforming can be a bit iffy due to the forced perspective, the QTE's are fixed and thus, learnable and the overall combat system it actually closer to Bayonetta / DMC than many realize at first

One hint i can give you, that i didn't quite realized back on the WiiU:
Make use of the independent Unite attacks (Draw the form and press X instead of Y).
Not only do you dish out more damage, they also contribute to your combo rating, thus, giving you more money which makes the game easier ^^

Also, there is no shame in grinding out older levels again and again. You level individual Wonderful's (Yes, they all have levels...), gain money and mixer components.
Plus, you practice combat ^^

Games like these become way easier the more comfortable you get with their controls and your available move set.
When those split-second decisions become muscle memory and you develop your own "bread and butter" combo routine, lower difficulties become a cakewalk ^^

Re: The New Howling Peaks DLC For Minecraft Dungeons Is Out Now

Einherjar

@bobzbulder Funnily enough, i never had any issues with Minecraft on Switch myself and i tend to be pretty excessive with farming (Lots of crops and animals) which was a performance killer on older console versions.

And i usually have a pretty high tolerance for bad performance.
I'm an absolute Musou game (Dynasty Warriors and Co.) fanatic, i'm used to poor performance xD
But Minecraft Dungeons genuinely stutters in a way that makes me sick and gives me headaches for some reason.

And, well, the swamp stage stutters so bad that it regularly crashes my game as well.
With certain seeds, the game just stutters to a screeching halt, forcing an app shutdown.

And it's quite a fun game too! I underestimated it due to its relatively low amount of content in the beginning.
But i just can't enjoy it sadly.

Re: Minecraft Was The Most-Watched Game On YouTube In 2020

Einherjar

@NGNYS What i also never quite got about that argument:
Even if it's "just" a port...there's a big chance that it's the games first release on a handheld platform as well.

It's not just a console port for another console.
It's a console game potentially reaching a new audience, in this case, Nintendo's avid handheld gamers.

At the end of the day, people will complain about everything anyways.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Focus On Younger Players Is A Positive, Not A Negative

Einherjar

Imho, the focus on a younger audience is one of Nintendo's more defining traits overall.
It starts becoming an issue if you start to treat kids like idiots, a.e., you dumb down your software, you insist on almost condescending restrictions etc.

While kids don't need to be exposed to certain types of media, they definitely should be exposed to media that teaches them to use their own brain.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Character Designer Celebrates Third Anniversary With Some New Artwork

Einherjar

@Kirby_Girl "It's OK when we do it! It's totally not X when we point out X first!" A true classic

Again, only thing left to say is: Please get in contract with certain cosplayers and tell them about their "ridiculous" bodies because it clearly isn't the female form if the council of totally not sexism isn't greenlighting it

And there are plenty people who already don't care about it.
Believe it or not, there are people out there able to look at everything else on the screen besides those dastardly scary "anime tiddies meant for boners". It's shocking, i know.

But oh well, you do you, there are far more important things to do and care about than scary videogame hip-to-boob ratios.
Hope you have a great day. I have to find out who lost my delivery... sigh I'd much rather stay here and bicker on xD
