Planned on playing Bayonetta 3, but i'm actually close on dropping it again. It's...really not that good :/ The core game is ok, but the side content (which locks away character upgrades) is just utter trash that grinds the game to a halt every time.
So patience is running out, i might drop it and continue Persona 5.
@NinjaNicky I only have experience with Sony systems up to the PS4, but yeah, overly complicated UI design is kinda their schtick.
Don't get me wrong, i like the Switch's UI as well. It's definitely not bad (even though the folder system leaves much to be desired). But it's also extremely sterile. A few themes would have gone a long way for instance.
We have so many colorful JoyCon that invite to mix and match, yet the Switch Home screen is either black or white.
Again, it's functional, as @sanderev said it's super fast (not so much the eShop, but that's a different can of worms) and it does exactly what it should. It's just lacking flair and character. It feels like a device, not a Nintendo device.
@PessitheMystic I genuinely think it's less of a meme and more actually good PR. A new store theme actually drew peoples attention. And with that, their eyes to the "What's new" tab.
It was an experience and a great PR tool, too. The current eShop is a necessity, the former ones were an experience in and of themselves.
@Snatcher The Switch lacks a lot of "Nintendo Flavor" things. Sterile UI, very few fun noises, no music (imho one of the biggest losses: The shop music). It's perfectly serviceable and functional, but it lacks a lot of charm and character compared to previous platforms that offered a "Nintendo experience" just in their main menus.
Adapting DBZ into the "Dead by Daylight" format of asynchronous multiplayer is actually a great idea on paper if you ignore the in-universe power gap between the super villains and everyone else.
But yeah, the game itself just feels cheap. Which would be fine as a F2P throwaway title.
I think the best thing that came out of this show is the people who made it believing they are moving within game canon... Maybe you should have told your casting agent as well...
Platinum and ingame purchases? Yup, there goes any hope of a preorder chaps. I'll wait until someone went through it with a fine comb, i've seen Babylon.
They are also very committed to committing all kinds atrocities. So yeah, f them and all of their BS. They won't see a slither of support from my end unless they completely cut off their rotten head and start to change up the company.
@sixrings That's correct. It's not because Nintendo publishes some of their games, but because they made some of the most highly regarded videogames out there. So i guess it was making very good videogames that made them a very good videogame developer
As much as i love Xenoblade and its music, i don't think enough of it is interesting enough standalone. They are fantastic mood pieces in their respective regions, but other than "Gaur Planes", there's very little really memorable stuff.
I just love that nonsense like that came from the one studio who's recent multiplayer games tanked harder than the titanic, while it's singleplayer outings surpassed all expectations.
There is being tone-deaf and then there's not even being able to understand your own bottom line anymore.
Imagine a company like EA, with all that money and resources, that actually understands its own industry and consumer base and gives a damn...
The flat colors make me depressed... The first screenshot shows that they can do some popping and vibrant color grading (even if it's yet another Green Hill homage). But everything else is just mute and boring.
So many new games chose to either completely neglect their color grading or, and i hope it's not that, willingly chose to go for cold, flat colors...
Diablo 4 is almost monochrome, Square Enix releases a few games that are muted to hell... I mean, not everyone can nail color grading like, say, Elden Ring or Horion: Forbidden West did, but this here is just...depressing.
Iirc, Gilbert planned (and wrote) a trilogy back then, which is why Monkey Island 2 ended on such a weird note. And this game is supposed to happen after MI2, so we will get that conclusion.
When the articles surfaced that people were complaining about the art style (what little we've seen so far) ti brushed it off as nonsense... I get it now...this is one butt ugly game...
I was genuinely more shocked by the reaction to this. I thought this has been confirmed ages ago already... Especially considering that Sonic 3 had some licensing issues with its music here and there. Iirc, it was the reason we never got an M2 port on the 3DS or a SEGA AGES release on the switch.
@HeroOfTime32 No they absolutely don't. This is a payed product that does not work on a platform that has next to zero consumer protection in terms of refunds. Everyone who payed for this product is absolutely entitled to complain about the shoddy work provided.
@Greatluigi Uhm...why not? If Coca Cola comes out with a new recipe, what do you think will be people's reference point to see if the new recipe is worth it? That's the whole point of sequels / franchises. You build up familiarity, so customers know what they get without studying the product first (which loses you most of the impulse buyers).
So, when you take a familiar franchise and extract pretty much everything that made it famous, like any RPG elements in Paper Mario's case, people will draw comparisons to the last instance that defined that franchise. Because that's the franchise they've been sold and the product that doesn't match up to it.
Very few franchises survive drastic changes to their core. And Paper Mario, in the eyes of many, me included, didn't survive the jump to being more of an adventure game with tacked on combat that serves no purpose anymore.
Got myself the PC version, which turned out to be a complete, technical disaster. If i hadn't accidentally passed the refund point of 2 hours of playtime, i actually would have refunded it. Good game, it just runs like absolute trash and the technical support is pretty much nonexistent.
Pretty much all PC for me: Some more Shredder's Revenge, working on that No-Hit final boss ahievement. Some more FF7 Remake, now that it's finally out on PC. And maybe some more Persona 4, but its pacing is...testing me.
@ChakraStomps GTA and Fallout didn't "become open world", they always were. And yes, BotW's open world certainly wasn't it's strongest point, as it was empty, barren and ultimately pointless as there was little incentive to actually explore it.
I've yet to see any game franchise to actually become better by going for an open world. And i have a hunch that Sonic will not change that trend either.
Yeah, that won't work out with today's sensibilities. The only thing that would be applauded today is its Pigcops, i can see Kotaku writing an essay about its deep, meaningful political commentary about it. But Duke himself would need to be an entirely different character, as the macho, womanizer parody wouldn't fly today.
I mean, that screen is pretty representative. It's lifeless, boring and desaturated. It's the hedgehog with an attitude afterall, the attitude of a 50 something accountant...
All in all a good selection, but doesn't it kinda render the also upcoming Dark Stalkers collection moot if you're not willing to shell out 40 bucks for Red Earth alone? Some really bizarre decisions have been made with this.
Yes, of course, an "old build". The best material to show when starting up your PR campaign. This is in no way damage control in light of the overall reaction to the shown footage. Next, some "unforeseen circumstances" force them to delay the release...a couple of times... Been there, seen that.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Capcom has been extremely friendly with fan projects like this. So much so, that "Street Fighter X Mega Man" has been featured and promoted by Capcom themselves.
As long as it isn't a commercial product, i doubt Capcom will have any issues with it.
Yeah, no. This looks laughably bad. The world is completely empty and its desaturated, dead color palette doesn't help. Those random gray shrapnels in the sky that are cosplaying as platforming gameplay are embarrassing.
And what they call "Combat" here seems to be a mixture of Heroes and 06...make of that what you will.
I genuinely feel sorry for SEGA. This makes Balan Wonderword look finished and competent.
@TryToBeHopeful More often than not, we're talking about more than 8 bucks though. Plenty of people sink hundreds, if not thousands into F2P games that one day just vanish. I'm not talking about Bomberman specifically, but the whole service model. It's a considerable time and money investment that can (and will) go up in smoke from one day to the next.
@TryToBeHopeful Kind of, which is why most cinemas are on the brink of going bust. In the age of 70+ inch 4K TV's, 8.1 Surround sound systems and the ability to buy a physical movie for less than a cinema ticket, yes, why pay for "the experience" when the long term investment is simply superior in pretty much every way.
A limited time contract on a single player game with an original IP? That's...unique. I feel there might be more to the story than they're letting on at the moment.

Considering that the "Remake" wasn't a remake at all, we can probably expect that the not-remake is a full blown remake then.
Re: Disney's New Free-To-Play Racer Wants To Be Distinct From Mario Kart With "Combat Racing"
It's already distinct enough by being F2P garbage ¯(ツ)/¯
There's just no way a company like Disney is abstaining from using predatory monetisation.
