You know what? Maybe we've had enough of Fire Emblem's very similar-looking, blue-haired boys. They've had their time in the spotlight, and they've all been invited to Smash. You know who doesn't get enough recognition? Everyone's favourite nameless friend, the Gatekeeper.
His endlessly sunny disposition was always a welcome respite from the grimness of battle in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and his latest win in the player-voted 2021 Fire Emblem Heroes poll to "Choose Your Legends" is proof that he's finally getting the praise he deserves. Yay, Gatekeeper!
The Gatekeeper already has scores of fans, including those who modded him into a playable character in Three Houses (and discovered that his Charm stat was the highest in the game). With stats like that, how could you not love him?
Of course, that does mean that it's the fifth year in a row that Chrom - the protagonist of Fire Emblem: Awakening - has lost. He's lost to Ike, Hector, Alm, and Dimitri in the past, and now he's lost to a guy who can't even go into battle. Sorry, Chrom, but you're just not as cheerful.
The poll winners, Gatekeeper, Marth, Marianne, and Eirika, will be added to Fire Emblem Heroes wearing "special Choose Your Legends outfits". Will we finally get to see the Gatekeeper's eyes? I guess we'll find out.

Now that I think about it, the Gatekeeper is the most memorable NPC in Three Houses. Makes sense.

Most days I'm fine with the decision to stop playing after 3 years of daily activity. But sometimes I see stuff like this, and shed a single tear for the fun I'll never have. RIP to my armies of 5star +10's sword bois and waifus that will forever remain unused.
As we all know, when it comes to Fire Emblem, the real gatekeepers are the Smash fans 😏😉

Finally, a good character actually won one of these polls.
I was confused when I heard FE fans being so amped about someone called "The Gatekeeper", and I thought he was some sort of divine being. Turns out he's just a nice guy with a positive attitude!
@martynstuff TBH, Fire Emblem has more than enough gatekeepers all by itself. Just go on any FE forum and say that you started playing FE with Awakening, and you'll see them start to swarm within seconds.
As I've said before, it's amazing how many people were allegedly hardcore fans of Fire Emblem before Awakening - you know, the game that was literally Fire Emblem's last chance to not be cancelled due to an overwhelming lack of popularity, until Awakening became a bestseller and singlehandedly turned FE into one of Nintendo's top properties.
Is it safe to assume that this gentleman was meme'd into Heroes the same way Dorcas was?

Chrom is a fine character. But he's just fine. This is coming from a major fan of Fire Emblem Awakening (I've played it like 4 or 5 times at this point). He is just not that original or unique. He is cool, but Fire Emblem is a series with dozens of cool sword wielding heroes.
Hector was a rare protagonist who used an axe and was a brute. Ike was a mercenary rather than a noble. I can't speak much for Alm. Kinda surprised there.
But the one that really surprises me is Dimitri. Easily my least favorite of the 3 main lords in FE3H. I just find him to be very dull and unlikable.
Honestly, I am shocked it too Marth this long to place high in this poll.
But I am going for Eirika as my free pick since Sacred Stones is still my favorite game in the series.

I hope we get a new FE game soon. 3H didn’t gel with me, so watching its 6th character get legend status doesn’t do much for me personally.

Nice surprise seeing Fire Emblem Heroes getting an article here. Another thing in the Gatekeeper's favour is he isn't in the game yet, whereas we have multiple Marths and Chroms so I think a lot of people wanted something fresh. Most my votes were Tellius characters so I didn't really have a horse in this race
