According to the The Wall Street Journal, The Pokémon Company is planning on building from the success of Pokémon GO and is working on another mobile release. The information, sourced to a pair of unnamed sources, has told the WSJ that the company is looking at making a 'new card-game' app. The Pokémon Company has declined to comment.
This is a slightly surprising report as there's already a dedicated app for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and it's worth noting that aside from GO there have been multiple iterations on the IP through various official apps and games on smart devices. There is scope for a new take on the card-playing formula, but as an area already covered in multiple ways by the company it'll be interesting to see if this actually happens.
Elsewhere Nintendo boss Tatsumi Kimishima recently reconfirmed his company's commitment to creating mobile titles at an investors meeting earlier in the year. The company intends to release two to three new smartphone games before the end of the financial year - March 2018.
This Pokémon rumour was presented alongside the report that Nintendo is working on a smartphone game based around The Legend of Zelda. Pokémon GO released in July last year and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, having been downloaded over 500 million times.
Could we see both Zelda and a new Pokémon app on mobile before the year's end?

Wouldn't be surprised if the wallstreet journal just doesn't know about any pokemon game for mobile other than pokemon go and thinks any updates of those being worked on are new games in development
Sounds good to me! The old Pokémon TCG is not that fun to me.
Takashi Mochizuki is a respectable Journalist who likes his gaming tbh. . .
These rumours from the WSJ just seem too fishy to be true.
Why would they be the first to get rumours like this?
If this is all coming from one source, then how do they know about both apps even though Nintendo likely has next to nothing to do with the Pokemon app and vice-versa?
If it's two sources, then how did the WSJ get both of them before anyone else?
Okay Okay, but don't know if I believe it now
I hope if this's true that it turns out to be an rpg just like the gbc games.
could just be a new update or new version of the CCG app.
Okay, what about Pokemon Star Rumour ?
Meh. Call me when you're planning a new entry in the series altogether or Pokken on the Switch.
....I just want a new Pokemon TCG on 3DS.
If it includes a single player adventure mode of some kind, I might actually pick it up.
Hope this isn't true as Nintendo aren't struggling anymore so theirs no need to release another game on a rival platform.
I would kill for a sequel to the GBC game on Switch, but I suspect that they're afraid of eroding the audience for the physical cards (that I have no interest in). The PC and iPad app is fine and all, but new cards are ridiculously difficult to procure, and the software is plagued with microtransactions, which defeats the purpose. The GBC game was so much fun because it made the process of obtaining even the rarest of cards fairly easy, and players can experiment with a wide range of decks. I still play it to this day.
@wizzgamer How are phones a "rival platform". If anything, Nintendo made a lot of money with mobile apps.
I hope they update the card app. The current one feels dated, and sort of cheap.
Visual and audio updates would do wonders in attracting more players.
I've never seen a Pokémon TGC game for iOS. Is that really legit or was that a mistake?
@wiggleronacid It needs to be on ios. They are missing a big market. Hearthstone cleaned up the market basically unchallenged.
@TheLZdragon it also includes Tablets as well which is the main market the switch is competing against.
