More adventures await for Pokémon GO players, with Niantic giving an update on the next big in-game event. Starting on 18th May players will be able to encounter more Rock-type Pokémon than ever before due to the latest event. Players should expect to encounter more rock Pokémon like Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto and Kabutops - Even an Aerodactyl may appear.
The Pokémon GO Adventure Week will begin celebrations from 1:00 pm PDT (21:00 UK Time) on 18th May to 1:00 pm PDT on 25th May. During this, more items will be awarded from every PokéStop visited and Poke Balls will be 50% off in the in-game shop.
More importantly your buddy Pokémon will also be in the "adventuring spirit" and will find candies four times as fast for the duration of the celebration, heavily reducing walk distance for some Pokémon. Lastly a new avatar item will be made available for all players. The "Explorers Hat" will be added to every player's wardrobe to help with your latest journey. Niantic is also encouraging players to share their adventures on social media using #PokémonGO; from this they will share some of their favourites on the new Pokémon Go Instagram channel.
On another note, as of 11th May the Pokémon GO community has walked more than 15.8 billion kilometers since the game launched back in July last year. To put it in perspective that is more than double the distance from Earth to Pluto (7.5 billion kilometers).

ARMS DIRECT TOMORROW!
17th May 11:00pm UK time!
Complete with new SPLATOON 2 TRAILER!
This is a pretty good event, I really need more Larvitar and Larvitar candies, so this will be perfect as it's my current buddy.
It's a rock type after all, I hope I see more of them.
More Geodude for Golem and more Rhyhorn for Rhydon, even more Onix for a potential Steelix, this sounds pretty good.
@RupeeClock Me too! I've needed a Kabutops for far too long.
This will be useful since I also need more Larvitar and Larvitar candies. Need some powerhouse to counter the Valor swarm that popped out of the Matrix in my neighborhood, especially when they use a certain Pokemon with high HP.
Not impressed by the rock types... but seeing as this is an adventure event, not a specifically rock event does make me think there could be more to it.
Recent events of this scale have all had something special about them... but this seems to be lacking anything like that.
They made a point to name the fossil Pokemon, so what if it's about going on an adventure in a place where you would find fossil Pokemon (along with other rock types)... places like ancient ruins... and what other Pokemon are strongly associated with ancient ruins? Unown.
Like how they announced the shiny Magikarp during the water event, they could announce an increase in Unown once the event starts as an extra surprise, once people have started to notice an increase for themselves.
Well, that event announcement was certainly Onix-pected.
I'm assuming the 4x candy rate is for ANY buddy pokemon, not just Rock type buddies? I just swapped to a Graveller buddy this morning before seeing this but if it is any pokemon for the 4x rate, I'll bang out a Dragonite or something else OP during the event.
@Alundra-1998
Actually it's kinda predictable at this point.
Past weeks were a water type event, a grass type event, now a rock type event. It's a pretty simple basis for events they can do regularly.
Now I wait for the dragon type event.
@RupeeClock That was merely just a pun to be fair.
Cool, haven't even seen a Larvitar yet.
@Alundra-1998
Applause!!!
Nice try, Niantic. Where are trading and battling? The original trailer looked so much better than the tedious solo experience this game has been over the past year.
@thesilverbrick I agree, Niantic completely wore out any benefit of the doubt within the first few months of the games release by promising battling & trading were on the way... then going deadly quiet while throwing DMCAs at tracking sites. Yet again, their last advert for Pokémon Go (a few weeks back) hinted heavily & deliberately at battling.
Niantic don't seem to have realised that a majority of GENUINE fans of the game have long since called their bluff and left to find a healthier relationship with another game.
I needed Larvitar so it's good for me!
I would care more if there were stops around here, I ain't paying money for this game every other day just to catch Pokes for an hour or so. -.-
@Joeynator3000 A park near where I live....

@Spoony_Tech At least you have stops at a park near where you live. TwT
There's no park near where I live, gotta walk for like an hour or so just to get to one.
