Re: Round Up: The Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Reviews Are In

But the point of reviews is to inform people who might buy the game whether they should or not.
The point is not to sample every possible human opinion on the game. I mean you might as well try and get a chimpanzee to play it as well if that's the purpose of it. Lets see what they think!

Well those numbers are over 800,000 combined, and stopped being recorded in November, meaning they didn't include Christmas sales.
When you combine that with the fact that sales are always a fair bit higher than actual trophy count (because not everyone plays it immediately upon buying it), I think over 1 million is pretty much guaranteed.
I do think that will be a disappointment for them, but not necessarily a "flop". We probably won't get a Crash 5 though, I'm guessing.

That's just the PS4 numbers. It's also worth pointing out those numbers are lower than the total sales, because lots of people don't actually play the game the second they've bought it.

The gamstat numbers for FF7 Remake for example, were nearly 1 million behind the actual sales (as stated by Square)

The data I've seen suggested it sold nearly half a million digital copies in its first month. I think that suggests the total sales by now must be well over a million.
It's just no way near as successful as N-Sane trilogy, which sold like 15 million or something insane.

Re: Ori Director Criticises "Snake Oil Salesmen" Behind No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, And Fable

I think Thomas should probably try and make a game on the kind of scale of No Man's Sky or Cyberpunk before he gets into criticizing them.
The Ori games are great, but they are incredibly basic and simple affairs. If that's all the games industry was, it just wouldn't be a very interesting place. We need people who are eager to push the boundaries of what a medium is capable of doing.
It's almost impossible to have that without having people who tend to overshoot.

I think some people were expecting a real high end graphical remake, like RE2 Remake or FF7 Remake.
It's quite clear from the trailer, and from some leaked gameplay footage on youtube, that that's NOT what it is. It's essentially just getting all of the games up to the ME3 graphical standard and then high resolution and 60fps. It looks like an early PS4/Xbox One game. Not PS5/Series X quality at all.
