We're not really sure what Monolith Soft is working on right now. In fact, the only news we've had recently has been from their hiring process - the studio behind the Xenoblade Chronicles series was hiring for a Legend of Zelda game back in 2019, an unnamed action game in 2018, and they helped out on Animal Crossing: New Horizons, too. The last we really heard about their current project was in mid-2020, when they spoke about developing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, and making sure it didn't impact the progress of their "new title".
Well, Monolith Soft is at it again, whatever "it" is - they've just announced a few new positions aimed specifically at local Japanese students who are graduating in 2022, who can work at either their Tokyo or Kyoto locations. The four positions open are for a Programmer, Planner, and designer in their Tokyo office, and a Designer for their Kyoto office.
It could be a really exciting opportunity for fresh new talent to have a say on whatever Monolith Soft's next game will be - whether it's Xenoblade, Zelda, or something totally new.

Unfortunately I’ll be the class of 2023 since it’s a 5 year course 😂
A new xenoblade will be soooo sweet
Maybe hire an art director that isn't a hentai artist this time
I'm class of '22 (in high school)! This is my chance 😂
In all seriousness Monolith Soft is one of my favorite developers and I can't wait for whatever they cook up! They've made and helped with so many great games
Lemme just quickly apply to Japan University as a mature student
This is really awesome, as it can be hard to break into the console gaming industry and especially as a young person at a well established and proven studio! I hope the fresh young minds can bring awesome, and creative perspectives to Monolith's next games!
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would be amazing!
Dang it give us XCX on Switch!!!
If they make a Xenoblade 3, I hope it's more serious in tone like the first game, and not a generic Shonen anime like the second one. The second one has some good moments.. but the tropes and the tonal whiplash is just too much.
Goddammit
I'm class of '24
@VoidofLight
Not sure what you mean. 2 is arguably more darker than the first with themes dealing with mass genocide of certain groups (Torna), slavery of the blades (Amalthus' actions), dealing with death of your loved ones and the consequences of gaining immortality (Jin and Lora), unlawful experimentation (blade eaters and flesh eaters), and accepting who you are despite your failures in the past (Nia).
And don't forget, 1 had its fair share of light moments also. Such as when they meet Riki and Melia for the first time.
I could go on, but the themes of 2 really hammered home just how messed up the world at large can be to everyone on a massive scale while 1 focused on a smaller group that dealt with more personal issues. And even X got dark at some parts with cults and many who questioned the fact that only certain individuals were deemed worth saving when earth was destroyed.
All three games nail their storytelling in my opinion and I can't wait to see how the fourth ties them together if at all. Love this franchise.
Time to become RandomJapaneseGamer.
No one was happy about Tiger! Tiger! certainly not that happy. I do applaud them wanting to bring in younger people, fresh perspectives are good to have.
@PBandSmelly They can keep the hentai artist. That's perfectly fine.
If they’re recruiting for 2022 to start the next game, I wonder if there’s something coming around 2021? There was a rumour saying they had a new IP in development alongside the XC1 remaster.
@jancotianno Only if they add tentacle monsters! Lots and lots of tentacle monsters!
Would love to play xcx on switch before a new xeno game comes out , since im so invested in this series atm.
You mean I have to complete an entire degree in just a single year? Bring it on!
@jancotianno
In my opinion it really sucks to have an important character have so much of their jokes revolve around boobs and whatever. I want a cool fantasy story, not a harem with all the booby ladies everywhere, camera angles purposefully going places and stuff. It screams "We wanna sell our game but we are incompetent at making characters, so we use sex appeal for the teens to look at instead". Same thing can be applied to the anime industry as a whole
Please be a Xenoblade X Switch port. I'd buy four copies of it if needs be
@PBandSmelly Perhaps it’s for the breast.
I'm class of 2025 dang it
@PBandSmelly
It's Japan. Every artist started as a Hentai artist.
@PBandSmelly
Might be better to enjoy the characters for their personality and not just what they look like. Who cares what jokes people make.
@PBandSmelly
The art looks good
Xenoblade Chronicles X is the best open World game that i have played, the exploring was great and getting the Skells with the most rarest part was a huge task, it took me hours to get one of the most best valuable parts for the Skells. Xenonlade 2 was a huge dissapointment, i even didnt want to finish the game, Rex constant whining and being annoying was a letdown, also the anime graphics was not for me. In the end i finished it and got the rare companions like Zenobia. I spend like 350 hours in X, Xenoblade 2 i just wanted to be done with it. It would be really great if Monolift brings X2 to the Nintendo Switch.
@DoubleDate I totally agree with Xenoblade Chronicles X being the best open world game that I have played as well
Hopefully we get another Xeno game before the Switch is done.
@VoidofLight That was highly intentional because the scenario writer Tetsuya Takahashi had been basically writing serious stories with mature content since Xenogears in 1999. He wanted a break from that and focus on the type of story he enjoyed when he was younger and wanted a more peppy story with some serious moments. I think he succeeded as under the surface Xenoblade 2 deals with some super heavy stuff from the meaning of existence, to the corruption of religious institutions to even more personal ideas like self identity. But it was never dragged down by this because the characters were fairly upbeat and the story injected humor at smart moments to add levity.
I'm sure he has something cooking for Xenoblade 3 or Xenoblade X2, but I think Xenoblade 2 was a nice break of pace from the normally dower stories Tetsuya Takahashi tends to write. It struck a nice balance between being lighthearted and whimsical, but hit on some serious and mature content.
I always get this company confused with Monolith Productions. The geniuses that made my one true love Aliens vs Predator 2 (PC) game back in 2001.
Hey if you're gonna talk about Monolith Soft and Xenoblade, how about a picture from, you know, Xenoblade instead of Smash?
Smash doesn't need any more advertisement.
@Heavyarms55 Well it is an awesome shot! Pyra and Shulk about to clash blades on the back drop of the Bionis with Mechonis in the background! Plus they don't have to worry about spoilers as some people have only just discovered Xenoblade 2 thanks to Smash.
@JR150
When those jokes are repeated every 5 seconds it gets annoying
@Wexter I mean it is a cool shot, but it's not from Monolith and it's not really Xenoblade. There's plenty of awesome spoiler free pictures they could choose from. And this is an article about Xenoblade and Monolithe, not the 29,467,329th Smash article. I'm nitpicking, I know, but it bugs me.
Smash receives endless praise that, honestly I think is in gross excess to what it actually deserves - meanwhile Xenoblade are games still seen as niche titles that could really benefit from more exposure.
Don't get me wrong, I like Smash well enough, but everyone, their uncle, grandma and little sister knows pretty much exactly what it is. Few games have been as heavily marketed. Meanwhile I don't think I've ever seen an ad for Xenoblade and even though sites like this put out nonstop Smash articles, Xenoblade only got a minor handful.
I openly admit to my bias in favor of Xenoblade, I do very much consider it a better series.
@Heavyarms55 That's okay. Sometimes writers have to meet a hard deadline to get an article out and have to grab a photo on hand that fits with what they are talking about. Sure could they grab a photo from Xenoblade that would work? Sure. But, it was probably easier for them to grab one from Smash that was on hand which people would click on.
But, I'm glad Nintendo has been really trusting Monolith to create amazing games! The amount of trust they've given that studio is insane after Xenoblade was proven to be a hit! Especially after the lukewarm reception games like Xenosaga 1-3 and Baten Kaitos got I bet it was a relief for both Nintendo and Monolith. But, I'm also okay with Nintendo not pushing Xenoblade too hard as a franchise and risk burning out the creative juices at Monolith like Square Enix has with the Final Fantasy teams over the years to reach that evergreen "mainstream" audience.
@Wexter Ah. I actually didn't know that. Huh.
@JR150 It's moreso the whiplash in tone, and how the characters themselves were handled, but I guess they hit the lighthearted tone they were going for.
I dunno if they’d want the eleventh graders, the ‘22 and ‘21 students in my old school all got thrown out of school for a week for having a massive party. Every single person there got COVID...
Question to article subheader, though: are there university programs in Japan that you can graduate from in a year?😮😄
@Ganner Hey, Monolith Soft has nothing to do with Alien versus Predator series. You are mixing it up with Monolith Productions which is completely different US company who made Shogo, for starters, so they are certainly geniuses too, but in a different way.
@PBandSmelly Or hire more of them, the art in Xenoblade 2 was awesome! And of course devs are free to hire whoever they wish to.
