I was hardly "critiquing" it. It doesn't affect me much. Although it does indirectly, because how people choose to spend their money affects how the market allocates resources, so I do have a minor interest in other people's spending behaviour.
Sure, but none of that is gonna change whether I want the actual game or not. I'm just gonna think 'cool, that's a nice looking case for a game I still don't want'
Lol I've played like 5 Metroid games and couldn't tell you a single thing about the stories. I ignore all of that completely.
(and I appreciate the fact that the games generally let you)
Well that explains why there was uncharacteristically poor communication over some of the features. They're obviously less used to communicating with this team than their in-house devs.
Impressive that they've managed to keep these donation numbers high year on year. I honestly stopped paying attention to this stuff a few years back. There's way too much variation in how fun it is to watch. Some are awesome, others are just dull as hell.
Yeah Skyward Sword is probably the closest game to Ocarina of Time in the series in my opinion. In terms of the structure and tone it's very similar. (some might say Twilight Princess is closer, but that has such a different tone that it feels very different)
The problem with this kind of argument is that it completely ignores how often that "simply helping the marginalized", often does lead to discrimination itself. Several policies in the US were recently struck down by federal judges because they literally discriminated against white people and men. So the entire basis of that argument immediately collapses.
No, it's not that big a problem for a single site. It's the fact that it's the only political opinion that's ever pushed by any games media site, that's the issue. Echo chambers and ideological orthodoxies are negative, pretty much everywhere you find them. They make the people inside them stupider, and more hostile to any alternative view.
No I'm not in favor of cancelling anyone. The market obviously does decide over the long term, which is why so many previously popular sites (e.g Gamespot, Gamesradar) have almost no audience at this point. They lost them all to youtubers (who, coincidentally, have a much broader range of political opinions). In this case though, I actually DID have to read it, because it wasn't clear what the article was about from the title alone, so I didn't know until I'd read it.
I wasn't objecting to that actual argument (at least not for a 1994 game, although I might object if someone made that argument in 2021). I was objecting to the fact that this exact opinion piece has been written about a million times in the last decade. It's become obnoxious how often you have to hear people whining on about their gender/race/sexual preference. It's just nice to have some places where that isn't happening, that's all. And given that it didn't use to happen on this site, it is a noticeable change.
I wasn't extrapolating anything. They've published 3 articles of this type in the last week, despite almost never going into this type of material for the last decade that I've been reading this site. That's not extrapolation, that's a clear pattern emerging, so I thought it was worth voicing my displeasure. Obviously they can publish whatever they like, that's just stating the obvious. But if this site just becomes another carbon copy of all the other games media sites who've been parrotting this exact same set of opinions (I'm talking about the obsessive focus on race and sex/gender that dominates american progressivism, which I happen to think has an extremely negative effect on the world), then why would I bother continuing to read this site? I can already get that stuff elsewhere. There are literally a dozen mainstream sites already completely dedicated to this exact type of article.
I have no problem reading opinions I disagree with. What I have a problem with is the entire games media being taken over by 1 single opinion (american "progressivism"), which is repeated ad-nausem. If they actually made the effort to also host other opinions, then it would be no problem. But they don't. There isn't a single self-described conservative or libertarian in the entire games media (written media). That's not hyperbole. There are literally zero.
If you think Nintendo just came out with this of their own accord, I can see why some people take it at face value and think it's a good thing.
If you think they're being pressured into saying it as part of the creepy-ass plan of the World Economic Forum, you should probably consider it a bit more sinister.
Lol "controversial" youtuber and "actual" boxer. Mayweather has been charged for domestic violence on several occasions. I'm pretty sure he's controversial as well.
There's a very short list of about 10 games I replay. That's it. Some of them, like Dark Souls 1 and Final Fantasy 9 I've replayed about 10 times. Others just twice or thrice.

Re: Video: Unboxing The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Joy-Con Controllers, amiibo And Game
I'll never understand the weird fascination people have in watching things be "unboxed". Like why would that affect whether I'm gonna buy it or not?
Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On The Switch OLED As Pre-Orders Go Live In The US
I'd go and scalp that new Valve thing instead if I were them!
Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Guide - Walkthrough, Tips And Hints
@anoyonmus
If you've never played it, yes this would be a good opportunity. It's a great game, and this version has a whole bunch of improvements.
Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Guide - Walkthrough, Tips And Hints
Isn't Skyward Sword pretty much the easiest 3D Zelda game?
Re: New Metroid Dread Report Outlines 7 Points That Define The 2D Saga

I don't think we could know how many people have, because we have no idea how much overlap in sales there is between each game.

Is this supposed to be a "So you've never played a Metroid game?" type thing?
Re: Japanese Charts: Monster Hunter Stories 2 Goes Top, But Debut Sales Fall Well Short Of Rise
Weird that japan loves JRPGs and loves monster hunter but isn't that fussed about a monster hunter JRPG.
It seemed kinda like Dragon Quest to me, from the little I've played so far.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Is More Collaborative And Open Than Ever, Which Benefits Us All
I'd like to see a bit more of Nintendo letting out some of their unused IPs to third parties really.
For example, why don't they give Golden Sun to some mid-tier developer like the Tales or Ys guys, and let them have a whack.
Re: Octopath Traveler Teases Sequel On Its Third Anniversary
@Ralizah
Yeah I meant like spiritual sequel. Just the game that this team was doing next, along a similar vein.
Re: Tencent Reportedly Planning To Acquire Crytek Through Subsidiary
I'm generally quite pro free market, but I would be totally fine with just banning China from buying any western companies.
Re: Octopath Traveler Teases Sequel On Its Third Anniversary
Thought the sequel was the strategy one?

I hadn't played this since launch. Did it really have an explanation for every single heart you found?
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Trailer Showcases Enhanced Visuals, Rival Rush And More
@anoyonmus
Yeah but Nintendo is a more skilled developer across the board.
Re: Sonic Colors: Ultimate Trailer Showcases Enhanced Visuals, Rival Rush And More
If the Switch can manage 1080p 60fps, I might give it a whack.
Re: Talking Point: Where Does The Switch OLED Announcement Leave The Rumoured Switch Pro?
I really don't think they're gonna release 2 new models in the same year. Especially when they'd both be similar-ish in their appeal.
Like who would buy this OLED version if there was a proper Pro version as well? It would be pretty much meaningless.
Re: Finally, Nintendo Officially Unveils The Switch OLED Model, The 'Switch Pro' We've Been Expecting
I think your title is wrong. This is not the Switch Pro we were expecting.

Re: Japanese Charts: Game Builder Garage Beats Final Fantasy VII And Ratchet & Clank To Number One

Nearly a million PS5s have been sold in Japan? Yet one of the first major exclusives only sells 15,000 copies? I struggle to believe that.
Re: Japanese Charts: Game Builder Garage Beats Final Fantasy VII And Ratchet & Clank To Number One
Yeah that's cos almost no-one in Japan bothered buying a PS5.
Re: Shantae Developer WayForward Is Making Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp
