Re: Switch Owner Claims To Have Taken Nintendo To Court Over Joy-Con Drift, And Won

I doubt there's been any major change in their policy towards hardware. They've always tried to make their consoles for as low a price as possible. That's how businesses work. Sometimes that leads to hardware errors like drift, or like the Xbox 360 red ring of death. On other occasions it leads to ridiculous pricing policies like with the Vita memory cards. Every company has had some version of this if they've been around long enough.

I wasn't defending Nintendo at all. I've said many times I think they should fix it and release an updated version (and replacement joystick components so people can update their preexisting joycons).
Every hardware developer tries to make their product for as cheap as possible though. Including every previous Nintendo product. That didn't randomly change 5 years ago, so you can't blame the control stick issue on that.

No reason Nintendo should really care about what the other platforms are doing at this point. They're doing good enough on their own. It's 4 years into the generation. They could easily extend it into being an 8 year long generation if they wanted with a Switch Pro.

The Wii U was backwards compatible from day 1 because it had the same CPU type as the Wii. Completely different from the Switch. The Switch would either have to emulate or port Wii games.
It's definitely possible that a slightly faster CPU is needed for proper emulation.

I'm going with my theory that the Switch Pro will launch in 2021 and being able to play Wii games (via eshop purchase) will be one of its main selling points.
That explains the limited time purchase for this AND why they left Galaxy 2 off. They want to be able to use them both as a selling point for the upgraded console next year.

It's even worse than that. The claims about harassment are almost impossible to get evidence for, as most harassment and death threats are completely anonymous.
One "side" could've orchestrated all of the death threats against themselves in order to use it to get media exposure and we would have absolutely no way of knowing.
We do know that when the FBI investigated it quite extensively, they ended up charging no-one because they couldn't figure out who was responsible. That to me is a good sign you should be slow to believe any particular claims.

I'm well aware of the fact that the media heavily reported one side of it and ignored the other. It doesn't mean that's the reality of what happened. Plenty of people on the other "side" of it received death threats and abuse too, but the media simply refused to report on it. Go and listen to some of the old interviews Total Biscuit did with the BBC for some examples. The abuse he got was pretty obscene.

@Vepra

It's best described as a series of internet political wars that happened quite a few years back in the games industry. Each "side" will tell you it was about completely different things than the other side will. Best to just ignore because it's mostly just a lot of confusion with people talking past one another, as most political arguments on social media tend to be.

Re: Soapbox: There's No Shame In Playing On Easy, Even If You're A Pro

Dezzy

Really depends on the genre for me. If you want to play Mario or Zelda on easy mode, I don't think it makes much difference. Or a story-driven game like The Last of Us.
But something like Dark Souls really does need to be hard. You can't turn something like that into a quick and accessible experience without fundamentally destroying its core appeal. The fact that so many people originally find it hard, but then get to a point where a new understanding clicks, and everything makes sense, that's a crucial part of the experience and it's why so many people loved it.
