I read reviews for context, to get info about the game. More frequently than not opinions don't match mine even though I always find some reviewer with the same criteria as mine. And that's the point: criteria. It's so weird to read reviews that sound like 10/10 and then get an 8/10 (or vice versa)
Ergo, have your own set of criteria and decide for yourself. Always. Been gaming since 1988 and it's very hard to determine whether a universal praised game comes from journalistic experience or novely bias. Take Expedition33 as an example. I really didn't like the game, nothing on it screamed masterpiece and I have my reasons, my criteria. Then I played Skyrim for the 7th time and absolutely loved it (I think it's my GOAT) but it's nowhere perfect. No game is. So, in the end it's up for the reviewer to measure by himself how much the flaws should reflect the final score. As for Metroid Prime 4, it's one if my favourite series, pre ordered, can't wait for it
I don't get why should price be a factor when reviewing videogames. I don't see reviewers of 4k edition of movies complaining. Or some Pink Floyd remaster in Dolby Atmos. Be objective, it's your job.
Only THEN consumers decide if the price is a reason for getting or not the product
I always take games for what they are. That said, I feel this game is undercooked. It has a lot of potential but still not there yet. It even made my kids to go back to MK8 to play the much superior battle mode.
I really hope Nintendo doesn't take too long to bring the much needes updates in item balancing and free roam points of interest (it's a shame we have panels (?) counter a d no P or Peach Coin ones)
I played Splatoon 1 and never bought one again. Wanted to play the third with the kids but read that matchmaking is not favorable no newbies. Can you (community) confirm this?
@DennyCrane well put! On mh second Botw playthrough now and after 8 years I'm feeling this game very diffently. As if it was kind of...new? At least a new me, a 43yo boy father of two, enjoying more of life nowadays than when Botw launched.
Botw became, in 2017, one of my goat games. Totk was also great but something was missing (I'll find it out after I finish Botw)
I agree with the author. Such an amazing world to play in, going from stealth exploration pre-skell to finding every nook and crane in the end game. I just wish there's a switch2 edition for this one
@Serpenterror I kind of agree with this. One thing that bothered me on Astro Bot was a lack of sense of identity. A bit of heart, perhaps? Yes, it's cute and all but still, the whole aesthetics kinda the same all the time in all worlds.
The mechanics are interesting but I never felt I was in some magical world, just waiting for the levels to end. Don't get me wrong, the game is great, not on a Galaxy/Odyssey level great.
I really hope Nintendo brings some new 3D Mario on the vein of Bowser's Fury, that'd be awesome
I don't get all the negativity and rants. It's a fricking new console with a brand new Mario Kart. Are we seriously going back to the visuals conversation on a Nintendo game?
Just be excited and pretend you didn't know anything about this before and didn't saw all those leaks in the past 6 months.
I definitely am excited for this. And for sure the graphics will look better on my hands and tv. Be pacient. OG Switch is IMO the best Nintendo console ever and they kept the concept, it's amazing for my kids and I'll buy it day one. Long live Nintendo!!
Zelda also my GOTY, it was just perfect. Design is top notch and a care for pace that I haven't found in games in the last decade. Oh, and the music, one of the best Zelda ost ever IMO
As for Indy, truly deserved 6/10 at Purexbox. Nice movie feeling to it but the pacing was horrible, really bad enemy AI, it's clumsy and dumb in general. Had fun with it though.
@FishyS sure. anyway, there's a huge degree of subjectivity in any kind of art and videogames are no different. it's awesome we can all share our different tastes and not rely on GoTY lists. that's how I always find new stuff to play that I wouldn't otherwise
@garfreek well, jazz is also an after thought at best with most music listeners. Not trying to be cynical here, but I wouldn't bet my taste against the majority. And I own all consoles (and most of the current games)
@FishyS if that's the criteria (Metacritic score) so be it. Would be nice if they showed the criteria, though
Echoes of Wisdom is IMO the most brilliant and creative game out this year. So carefully designed with excelent pacing and design. The soundtrack is also amazing. Not being nominated is just wrong, mkay?
From the nominees I'd go for Metaphor. Astro Bot is cool but not distinctive enough to be considered even close to the best 3D Marios out there. Balatro is very simple but addictive - this year's Vampire Survivors.
In the end we all try stuff, regardless of critics' reviews. It actually pisses me more to believe games are great when they're just rehashes of rehashes (looking at you "new" God of War)
@Chimaj it surely doesn't belong in 2020 these kind of decisions. And also, why can't I bring new stuff home? The only way to get new fruit is by checking somebody else's island anyway or wait for a randomized nook miles island
Games should be reviewed for what they are and not for how much they cost. This, right here, is a disservice to anyone trying to find a review for the game
@Yasaal finish it first and then review it. The other way around is unwise.
I keep thinking in two words while playing this game: "gaming perfection", but that doesn't mean it will be everyone's cup of tea. I can see that, I can see people prefering the galaxies as they were more focused experiences

Re: Revived Publisher Acclaim Is Teasing Something For Next Week
@Big_Round_Robin oh I see! I thought the ip was still Aklaim's
Re: Revived Publisher Acclaim Is Teasing Something For Next Week
I'd love some new Turok!
Re: Harvest Moon's New "Cozy" Bundle Slightly Delayed For Switch
@nhSnork I agree with this. Either way the genre is overcrowded. I'm baffled by the sheer ammount of "harvesting lite rpgs" that come out every year
Re: Talking Point: One Month On, How Did Nintendo's Switch 2 Launch Go?
Great console! Bring on the big guns, Nintendo, we need a direct ASAP 🙏

Great developers and great game.
Re: Opinion: An Ode To The Fallen Arm, Xenoblade Chronicles' Best Map
One of my GOAT. Waiting for a Switch 2 version 4k/60fps patch to dip in for the 5th time ❤️
Re: Splatoon 3 To Get Free Switch 2 Update Later This Week
@GOmar @burndive thanks for the fast replies. Yeah, it might be too much for my kids. It's a pitty, though

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (29th March)
Replaying Xeno X and loving every minute. Such an amazing game. Here's hoping for a 60fps patch on Switch 2. This game truly deserves it
Re: Poll: What's The Best Xenoblade Game? Rate Your Favourite For Our Upcoming Ranking
Played them all except for DLC.
Xeno 1 is my all time favourite
Xeno X 2nd
Xeno 2 3rd
Xeno 3 last

Great news! Really glad I can keep og switch for the kids and the new one for me, my precious
Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Sales Officially Surpasses Two Million
@sanderev came here to write this. Such a creative and polished game. My GOTY for sure

Re: Talking Point: What Did You Think Of The September 2022 Nintendo Direct?
One has to forget his/hers preferences. It was undoubtly one of the best directs ever
Personally I was crying happy tears for Pikmin 4 (and the new Zelda) but overall there was something for everyone. Period
Re: Talking Point: One Year On, What's Still Missing From Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Unbreakable tools and better terraform. These two aspects kept me from replaying after one year
Re: Video: The Switch Is A Wii U Port Machine, And That's A Good Thing
@Octane yep, going xbox next gen for the same reasons

Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Technical Director Reveals More About The Labo VR Update
Looks interesting.
I cannot find any info on how to use it with glasses. Help?
Re: Feature: Enjoy The Cardboard Craziness Of These Nintendo Labo Creations
@Pa1nbow it may be used as a DAW?! Wtf? My interest in this "toy" is growing more and more
Re: Feature: Enjoy The Cardboard Craziness Of These Nintendo Labo Creations
@Pa1nbow thanks for the feedback.
Do you think it'd fit a 3 yo toddler?
Re: Football Manager Touch 2018 Kicks Off Today On Nintendo Switch
This is great news, I love the series (on PC)
I want to buy it, but can't find any info on how it will work on Switch. It says it uses Joy Con, but how? Pointing to the tablet?
It'd be nice to not depend on the touch controls, is there a compatible pen for Switch?
Re: Rumour: A New Perfect Dark Game Is In Development, But Rare Isn't Involved
"Why are we reporting this news on a Nintendo site when the game is never going to come to a Nintendo platform?"
To piss off fans like me. Well done
Re: Nintendo President Aims for 20 Million Switch Units To Be Shipped Next Year
It is ambitious. Based on this, my predictions:
Pokemon
Wii Sports 3
Smash
GTA V
AND (unlikely) League of Legends (just imagine it portable!)
Re: Video: Xenoblade Chronicles 2's Combat is More Straightforward Than You Might Think
15h in, worst combat of the Xeboblade games. Worst game also, might get better later
Re: Nintendo Is Ramping Up Switch Production To 25 To 30 Million Units A Year
@Jimgamer8 I agree, GTA V and big Ninty titles could really push it up.
I predict new Pikmin, Smash port and some sort of wii sports for next year
Re: Talking Point: The Case for Super Mario Odyssey as the Greatest Mario Game
@Muddy_4_Ever clever post
Re: Video: 11 Reviews for Super Mario Odyssey that Are So Bad They're Good
@Pazuzu666 well said, sir.
It's all about the journey, not reaching the peak of the mountain. Gaming perfection in my book

Co op is a big buying factor, shouldn't leave it behind IMO
Re: Video: See the True Grunt of the Switch with Fire Emblem Warriors & Hyrule Warriors Compared
What aboit performance in co op, mr OPoster?
