Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Desy64

I read reviews for context, to get info about the game. More frequently than not opinions don't match mine even though I always find some reviewer with the same criteria as mine. And that's the point: criteria. It's so weird to read reviews that sound like 10/10 and then get an 8/10 (or vice versa)

Ergo, have your own set of criteria and decide for yourself. Always. Been gaming since 1988 and it's very hard to determine whether a universal praised game comes from journalistic experience or novely bias. Take Expedition33 as an example. I really didn't like the game, nothing on it screamed masterpiece and I have my reasons, my criteria. Then I played Skyrim for the 7th time and absolutely loved it (I think it's my GOAT) but it's nowhere perfect. No game is. So, in the end it's up for the reviewer to measure by himself how much the flaws should reflect the final score. As for Metroid Prime 4, it's one if my favourite series, pre ordered, can't wait for it

Re: Talking Point: How Are You Finding Mario Kart's Open World?

I always take games for what they are. That said, I feel this game is undercooked. It has a lot of potential but still not there yet. It even made my kids to go back to MK8 to play the much superior battle mode.

I really hope Nintendo doesn't take too long to bring the much needes updates in item balancing and free roam points of interest (it's a shame we have panels (?) counter a d no P or Peach Coin ones)

@DennyCrane well put! On mh second Botw playthrough now and after 8 years I'm feeling this game very diffently. As if it was kind of...new? At least a new me, a 43yo boy father of two, enjoying more of life nowadays than when Botw launched.

Botw became, in 2017, one of my goat games. Totk was also great but something was missing (I'll find it out after I finish Botw)

Re: Random: Astro Bot "Almost Outdid Nintendo At Its Own Game", Jokes Reggie

Desy64

@Serpenterror I kind of agree with this. One thing that bothered me on Astro Bot was a lack of sense of identity. A bit of heart, perhaps? Yes, it's cute and all but still, the whole aesthetics kinda the same all the time in all worlds.

The mechanics are interesting but I never felt I was in some magical world, just waiting for the levels to end. Don't get me wrong, the game is great, not on a Galaxy/Odyssey level great.

I really hope Nintendo brings some new 3D Mario on the vein of Bowser's Fury, that'd be awesome

Re: New Mario Kart 9 Teased For Switch 2

I don't get all the negativity and rants. It's a fricking new console with a brand new Mario Kart. Are we seriously going back to the visuals conversation on a Nintendo game?

Just be excited and pretend you didn't know anything about this before and didn't saw all those leaks in the past 6 months.

I definitely am excited for this. And for sure the graphics will look better on my hands and tv. Be pacient. OG Switch is IMO the best Nintendo console ever and they kept the concept, it's amazing for my kids and I'll buy it day one. Long live Nintendo!!

Re: Random: Zelda Echoes Of Wisdom Was Suda51's Video Game Highlight Of 2024

Desy64

Zelda also my GOTY, it was just perfect. Design is top notch and a care for pace that I haven't found in games in the last decade. Oh, and the music, one of the best Zelda ost ever IMO

As for Indy, truly deserved 6/10 at Purexbox. Nice movie feeling to it but the pacing was horrible, really bad enemy AI, it's clumsy and dumb in general. Had fun with it though.

Re: The Game Awards 2024 Nominees Have Been Revealed - Zelda, Mario And Metroid Nominated

Desy64

Echoes of Wisdom is IMO the most brilliant and creative game out this year. So carefully designed with excelent pacing and design. The soundtrack is also amazing. Not being nominated is just wrong, mkay?

From the nominees I'd go for Metaphor. Astro Bot is cool but not distinctive enough to be considered even close to the best 3D Marios out there. Balatro is very simple but addictive - this year's Vampire Survivors.
