Not going to buy them all again for full price. I wish they were cheaper. Or in the case of Pikmin, included all three games or something like that.

Ports should be atleast half the original price but so many ports come out at £40-£50, and not just on Nintendo either same with the last of us remastered did the same, but atleast that dropped in price within a couple of months but Nintendo games don't drop a penny even after a year, might have to be a rent

@playstation_king In defence of TLOU Remastered, it was only €50. It came with the €15 DLC (total package was €75 on PS3). And it was barely a year old. But yeah, like you said, it dropped in price quickly. Nevertheless I think that a game like Shadow of the Colossus (2018) is a better example. Fully remade from the ground up; but it was only €40. Microsoft even allows you to play older games for free!

In all honesty. I'm looking forward to their next console. Only because I know they can't use the same port strategy again, and they have to rely on completely new games.

Eh. This "it's a good thing" line is somewhat true. But the flip side of it is, Nintendo is using all the ports almost as an excuse for not actually having new games releasing at an even remotely regular clip.

Honestly, more than the ports, Nintendo should be thankful for the 3rd party support this time around. But even that seems to be hit or miss.

Nintendo should have a program in place to grant a small discount to owners of the WiiU games. Nothing extensive like Microsoft's BWC, put just like a 50% discount or something. That still amounts to like $90 for one game basically ... not too shabby.

I'm very happy the Switch is getting this many WiiU ports. Few of them interest me, but that's not the point. It's a smart business strategy and all the money Nintendo makes from them can go into development of new games.

As a Wii U owner it kinda sucks. But I understand the reasoning behind it. A lot of people missed out on a lot of great games! And yeah I did buy MK8 again.

Ports are awesome but they are way too expensive. Baldur's gate is a 20 year old game and they are charging 60 for it. Neverwinter nights and pikmin 3 as well... I wonder if the sales team is just minmaxing profits at this point but dropping the potential sales by half thus creating half as many satisfied gamers in the process (because they aren't getting to experience the games due to being priced out). Makes me sad because nintendo is so charming other then their minmaxing of profit lines. I guess their investment board aren't gamers but greedy businessmen.

It's good, except it's most annoying for the hardcore Nintendo fans, who all had a Wii U anyway.

I've seen people on here and across the internet bein so "anti port" so to speak. Just because you've played it on other hardware doesn't mean the Switch version shouldn't exist.

I have a bunch of Wii U ports and my Wii U is still hooked up. I am all for the ports.

For the record, I have no problem with any of the ports, I’m more than happy to see games I’ve missed or particularly loved come back. I tend to sell the my old hardware and software to pay for the new stuff.

Wiiu ports aren’t bad. Except 6 or 7 year old games without graphical upgrades for the price of a new game (or even higher than the original) ARE bad practice.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if Nintendo was also making new games in these franchises alongside the re-releases. But it looks like new games for these franchises are most likely skipping the Switch. No Mario Kart 9, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Pikmin etc

I own a wii u and currently im not mad because many people may not understand but the switch will be a new starting point in gaming/nintendo for many people..
Just imagine being a child again and have your switch and experience breath of the wild/odissey/animal crossing/mario kart/pikmin/smash/metroid with possibly their best installements and also some of their greatest games in the switch!!
Since mario 3d world will almost be 100% ported to the switch i really hope we can see zelda wind waker and twilight as soon as possible

I am happy that other people can play these great games for the first time.

But as someone who owned a Wii U, this does not bring me any joy, only frustration for supporting the Wii U, and lacking new games to play. I'll say it again, I think 2020 has been a terrible year for Nintendo games. Covid or no Covid.

nintendo posting record profits yet just shafting us with 7 year old games charging same price as last of us 2 etc etc etc. Switch isnt a success due nintendo but due all the 3rd party devs publishers releasing great ports and great games for the system. switch online is lets throw some crumbs to the peasants.

Forgot to add... these ports are nice, but are in now way replacements for new main titles, although Nintendo treats them like new main releases. Which is not a good thing. A port is a port. We also need new games...

@SpaceKaren It's not an excuse. Those games are out because they are side projects done in the mean time while the development team are developing new games. There's no infinite resources or teams, so a smaller team with support from contractors can do it while also giving content.

@playstation_king its mostly just a Nintendo thing. The last of us was barely a year old plus it included all the dlc so it made sense for people to play on ps4 who might have had a 360 the previous gen. Pikmin 3 along with dkctf, NSMBU, xenoblade chronicles DE are all years old.

Also there are much better value remakes such as shadow of the colossus, ratchet and clank ps4, medevil, crash n sane trilogy, spyro reignited trilogy all for $40 usd.

@Anguspuss what he heck are you even talking about? 80% of the software sales on Switch are from games published by Nintendo. The success of Switch is due to Nintendo itself, not to third party. Don't talk about what you don't know, which clearly isn't business.

I didn't have a Wii U, so I like getting it's games. Wish Spaltoon 1 would port, but probably won't.

Ports are good. I love pikmin 3 but to play the extra content I have to buy it again which I think I will. I did the same for mk8 captain toad.

Ports are fine but for the Switch I feel like they're kind of becoming the norm and it's a bit disappointing. Like not just Wii U ports but legacy collections for certain franchises, overpriced re-releases, multiplatform AAA games that come out long after the hype for the original releases die down, or individually releasing games as download only titles for like 40 dollars when you can find them in a collection, or even cheaper on other platforms (cough cough Devil May Cry cough Resident Evil cough)

I also feel in the case of Wii U ports they could be doing a lot more to actually make those versions of the game feel like they deserve the "Deluxe" moniker and make it not feel like a marketing tactic to re-release the game with barebones additions for full price.

Skipping the disaster that was WiiU was one of the best ghaming decisions I have ever made.

Eh, to some degree but not really. The Wii U’s lineup being mediocre is one of the reasons I skipped it, and at this point everything I had any interest in playing has either already been ported or got a sequel.

@nessisonett Without those ports, you would have much less games from Nintendo on Switch. Those ports are side projects done to give time on the developers to create the new games while at the same time it gives a release on months where Nintendo wouldn't have anything.

There's 8 Wii U ports from Nintendo between the 30 games releases they had.

I want Super Mario 3D World and Zelda Wind Waker on the Switch.

Those are definitely worth it to port over.

When I have Borderlands and Bioshock collections launching at £40 for three games plus a fair amount of DLC, or Dragon's Dogma, or the now reasonably price RE ports, £50 for one Wii U port doesn't sound tempting. Hell, even Crysis seemed a bit too much.

The only publisher currently charging more than their ports are worth on Switch, other than Nintendo, is Bethesda, and they at least charged reasonable prices for the old Doom ports, and have at least 50% off sales on the rest.

I'm also fortunate enough to have the Wii U versions of the Pikmin games. So I'll continue not overpaying.

@Nemesis666 ninendo released around 50 games for switch in over 3 years around dozen of those are wii u ports. You honestly think that would keep a system alive. No no one bought borderlands collection skryim doom etc etc etc. I know for a fact reason they are even more lagging behind this year as they dont have ability to work from home like rest western world and still use ffffffffffffff fax. The profits they have banked and lack of investment in new games speaks volumes. And remember out those 50 a huge fffffffffffffffff chunk are games they published not actually developed.

Like MK8D is there in lieu of a new Mario Kart, NSMBU Deluxe is there in lieu of a new non-Mario Maker 2D Mario entry, DKC Tropical Freeze is there in lieu of anything from Retro (as this was prior to them restarting Prime 4), Pikmin 3 Deluxe is there in lieu of Pikmin 4, and I'll even group Bayonetta 2 in there because the communication on Bayo 3's development status is hella poor

@nessisonett hit the nail on the head. The ports themselves are perfectly fine(except the pricing maybe) but it’s the lack of new games that’s the problem. Personally I feel they should be developing more new franchises or older dead ones.

This is pro consumer. When Nintendo looks at the sales for the games you really want a sequel to, do you want them to look at only the Wii U figures, or at whatever the figures will be combined with the sales on Switch?

Consider how many consoles ago the last F -Zero was and how it sold back then. If it was ported to the Wii with as large of an install base as it had, we would have likely had another game or two in the series by now.

Play on the small screen when someone wants to watch the big TV, so the adverts said. I guess Nintendo assumed that most households only had the one TV. So developers had to think of ways of using the Wii U controller screen in its games. Mostly this failed. Nintendo failed big time with Starfox and other games. Rayman a third party game played better on every other console. The Wii u was a flop, but Nintendo plodded on.

The Switch was what the Wii u should have been, and finally they got it right, or did they, not really.

The Switch was their home console that allowed portable play. Gamers seen it as another handheld device replacing the DS.

Like the Wii, it's success was Nintendo's failure. It was the balance board that pushed the Wii sales up. People bought it as an exercise machine. Those same people abandoned the Wii u.

The Switch is selling as a handheld device. Nintendo does not have a must have home console anymore. Again the success of the Switch will become a Nintendo failure. Unless it can pull something out of its hat before the big boys come out to play. A Mario 64/ Sunshine won't help.

It gives Nintendo so much more stress free time to make new games without fans breathing down there necks forcing them to rush upcoming masterpieces we don’t even know about because millions of people will be busy with this game. Just thinking... say they release sunshine or galaxy or something. A remake of stuff like that would keep most switch owners busy for years as I’m sure the majority of them have never even seen the games. Anyways.... it’s a good thing... and when the time is right breath of the wild 2 and most releases will be revealed and drop soon after... Cuz they are Nintendo and cuz they can haha. They are probably so far ahead now with resources that they have switch 2 pro finished and a home console almost completed with virtual boy 2 present day VR fully mastered.... and they are all kicked back at home self isolating playing ghosts haha

@AJDarkstar Bayonetta 2 is honestly worth the double dip. It has a way more consistent performance that doesn't hover around the 50-ish fps mark, as well as a much nicer resolution when docked to the TV. Bayo 1 on Switch is also like literally the definitive way to play that game unless you're just a dedicated PC gamer

The cost to develope a Pikmln 4 game against upgrading Pikmin 3 to a Deluxe version. And what a fair price should be for the upgraded game.

Nintendo are taking the opportunity to sell these port games as new games to the gamers that deserted the Wii u and have now returned. While us that owned a Wii u are expected to buy it again or go without a new game....this year anyway.

It is not a good thing. Good would be if we received those ports anyway but didn't notice because of all the amazing new stuff. But when the biggest games of the year are remasters, having a new console is unjustified.

Also, the argument about how ports don’t stop them from making new games holds even less water now (not that it ever held much, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe means they won’t be making a Mario Kart 9 for example) because they’re releasing fewer games now than they did during the Wii U/3DS era (which we’re told was a game drought) even if you don’t exclude the ports. The numbers don’t lie.

And this argument of "the published" is ridiculous when Pokémon, Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, Kirby, Paper Mario and tons of games were never developed by Nintendo per se since the beginning. Which doesn't matter, because those games are funded, produced, owned, and released by them, much like Sony for years had with Ratchet and Clank with Insomniac Games before they acquired them in 2018.

I'm fine with Wii U games being ported to the Switch. I'm not fine with how they are being rereleased at full price (often with little to no added features to justify that price) and taken off the eShop to force people to buy these new versions. Beyond that, it's a shame we haven't gotten a new Mario Kart, DKC, Captain Toad, Pikmin, etc... game for the past 6-7 years. If pushed too far, it seems all these ports can stifle Nintendo's creativity and willingness to further develop their IPs.

Hopefully it becomes a GameCube port machine, too. Too many cool games on that console which are still locked to it.

I dont agree. I already have that game for WiiU (in all honesty I dont know why, I played it once), definitely not gonna buy it again. Good for Nintendo to offer these games to the people that didnt support them with that FAILED console, but I have, I bought that console, and I also have a switch, and there is nothing new (and good, of course TOK is something I dont consider good/what I wanted) for me, only ports.

All we want is a decent home console and a good controller, we provide the TV. And we purchase Nintendo games.

I don't go to Universal Studios to see Mickey Mouse and I wouldn't buy a PS to play Nintendo games. But I do but a Nintendo console to play Nintendo games. Having never owned a PS or Xbox I am now thinking of getting one.
In the absence of Nintendo games Ive played a few old open world ports, you know the ones the reviewers say ' haven't the developers done well to get this games running on a Switch' even with all its faults.
I want them to port new game to a Switch, ones that run without faults.

@Anguspuss Your list is just ridiculous. lol You clearly have no idea how Nintendo EPD in its basic structure even works. EPD develop its own games and produce EVERY game that Nintendo funds. THey work together in production of external development games with planning, coordination and many aspects related to development. Why do you think that Nintendo has clout on Paper Mario? It's not because it's Mario as Paper Mario is an IP shared between IS and Nintendo but because Nintendo employees on production roles are on there and they obviously have their own takes and influences on coordination, planning, production and many aspects. If you knew anything about the structure of japanese development or Nintendo itself you would know that.

If anything, Nintendo EPD is more similar to Sony Worldwide Studios in which they oversee and manage all games released by Sony than anything, as Nintendo EPD got the functions of Nintendo SPD when it merged with Nintendo EAD in 2015, so there's of course development groups but also production groups with employees entirely focused on working with external contracted companies. I got my Wii U copy for less than £15 so there is absolutely no way I'll buy this full price. And since it's a Nintendo game, there is no way it'll drop to such price on Switch. Hopefully this will sell and encourage Pikmin 4.

Still really disappointed they didn't release the whole trilogy. This is the biggest issue with Wii U games, since barely anyone played them, they get a barely remastered full price port

@SpaceKaren Metroid Prime 4 is still a logo screen because it was rebooted in 2019 and you know that. A game won't have content in one year, at all. This game only will even appear in something like 2021 or 2022. You have to understand that this game was cancelled and now a new one is being developed under Retro Studios.

To the people that own a Wii u, that's cool, you're so special, now let the millions and millions of people who didn't own one get wii u games they never get to play and stop trying to ruin their fun

I am a little frustrated by this, as I owned (and enjoyed) the Wii U. There is nothing there worth forking out another $60 for it again, as the version I have works perfectly. So I am choosing to instead think how many more will get to enjoy those wonderful games that are being given a second chance.

I can likewise get frustrated that they are not catering to me after I supported them in their darkest hours. But I am going to choose to look back at how I started gaming where I got a new game every 4-6 months if I was lucky, and remember how blessed I already am in that I have games I have purchased and not even started (including ones on the Wii U). In the end it's about perspective, and I think I occasionally need to step back and get it in times like these.

Comedy is rife, within some of the more entitled mentalities. You can't take the I already own a Wii U stance AND also claim the "oh this is too expensive, now I can't buy it" mentality at the same time. It's not price gouging if you already own the title unless it's your greed saying I need this a second time. Now perhaps they could smooth the road a little and offer compensation for those who owned the original.

But I think Nintendo will always price their software aggressively to make a profit of those consumers who are new to the series and perhaps Nintendo. So it's not as cut and dried as people are making it out to be, and it's also ludicrous to claim this used up any substantial amount of their development resources on a port.

For the people like me that didn't realize the Wii U was a distinct system from the Wii, I'd say that's definitely a positive.

The Wii U's failure to distinguish itself from the little white box that ended up collecting dust on many a TV stand probably hurt the Wii U.

@ianl579 Aside from mario kart which they clearly are reserving a new entry for a new console launch, those others don't appear for very different circumstances.

DKC was developed by Retro, which in that mean time didn't release anything and we have no idea what happened. My theory is that they were developing a new game between 2014 and 2019 and something went wrong and was cancelled. Retro even before Nintendo bought it, always had problems with management and even bringing new ones with MP it still has some so no surprise. So with the developer being busy, DK had nothing. So not related to the port but to the developer itself.

In relation to Pikmin, people seem to have no idea but the same developers of Pikmin also develop 2D Mario. So in that mean time, Super Mario Maker 2 was developed and released, so they were busy with this game while also releasing NSMBUDX and now Pikmin3. If there's a 4, it's being done by a smaller team until most of it can be relocated to develop it but honestly, Pikmin isn't a priority in a group where they develop 2D Mario. Who knows, we'll have to wait and see for what will be their next release.

Lastly for Captain Toad, the team was developing Super Mario Odyssey in that mean time and now is developing a new 3D Mario. Aside from that, Nintendo Software Technology, which is a nintendo subsidiary in the US, was mostly responsible for the port of the Switch and 3DS version.

So yes, in all of those cases there's different circumstances and you only will know them if you know enough of Nintendo's structure and how many things affect others.

The writing has been on the wall since Pokemon. Handheld is their bread and butter. Why do you think they didn't tank after the wiiU failed so miserably? Obviously playing on the tv is great too, and they should continue the hybrid trend, but wake up bro, the switch is hot hot hot

It's a good thing if the ports supplement the Switch library and not replaces/delays new titles.

With the exception of Mario Kart I've avoided all Wii U ports. Price isn't really an issue as there's always bargains to be had if you're a savvy chopper; I just picked up Astral Chain from Currys for £31 squiddies. Just avoid rip off sites like Amazon and Game.

@jarvismp neither of us know what Nintendo will do tomorrow let alone in ten years time. But the past shows that their consoles change with each new one. The sort of exception is the Wii u (named because it's a play on words, apparently) and it failed. There may be a spin off from the Switch, like the Lite, but the Switch will have a good run and then be put out to pasture, like the DS. By then Nintendo will have its head round cloud gaming for any device.

I don't think it's bad that Wii u games are getting ported. I already have all the major Wii u titles anyway, but I'm glad other people are getting the opportunity to play them. It doesn't really impact me anyway - the switch has got such a huge library as it is that nobody really has any right to complain about having nothing to play.
...what I DO take issue with though is the fact that these games are invariably released at full retail price, regardless of the similarity. Some games like hyrule warriors come with all the dlc, so the switch version is actually cheaper than the all the wii u dlc packs combined. Some would argue it should still be cheaper but...eh. Other games like DK: tropical freeze had no dlc, and just got a new easy mode, which really doesn't justify a full price tag.
Pikmin 3 is a great game, I personally got like half the dlc free via my nintendo so not interested in double dipping. But for anyone who doesn't have it, great! this probably is actually cheaper than buying the wii u game with all the dlc, and it wouldn't surprise me if it drops in price over time anyway.

So it is basically the same as the WiiU years. You wait 3-4 months to play the "new" WiiU game (on Switch) 😅🤣

The Switch will/has replaced the 3DS. And the Lite will take over from docked, and Nintendo will rule the handheld market, as it's always done and gamers who want more will buy a PS.

As for AC great for all those gamers who waited for it, but those who don't like AC had nothing from Nintendo until July and if you have already played Pikmin 3 the future looks bleak for gamers.

The moaning about lack of games is truly pathetic. Doom I can play on the train - and it’s brilliant in handheld mode. You are not going to get a handheld that can play PS5 games at the same quality. That’s would be a handheld that would cost over £500. There will always be concessions.

I am upset that Nintendo releases one or two Wii U ports per year, they should stop and appeal specifically to my tastes.

I didn't own a Wii U, so for me all these ports are amazing. But I understand that those who've already played them aren't that excited.

Plus, it's still flying off the shelves like crazy, and many places have really relaxed on quarantine despite big covid spikes in the US.

I own a Wii U and a whole bunch of games for it, but I never got around to playing most of them. Now I’d rather play them on Switch, because the Switch is better than the Wii U in every way. $60 seems like a fair price to pay for these games for me, but if it doesn’t seem like it to you, don’t buy them! Seems like a simple solution to me.

People seem to ignore the fact that aside from Wii U being a failure, this fits with Nintendo's porting strategy for handhelds. GBA got a ton of NES and SNES ports; DS got a ton of SNES and some N64 ports (or remakes); 3DS got N64, GCN and some Wii games. Switch getting Wii U games is 100% logical for the Nintendo handheld on the market. Remember, it isn't just a console. It's a console AND a handheld. It's very simple and it fits with the pattern I mentioned.

You know I never had a original Wii. Could Nintendo port some of those games or is that too much work? What about 3DS? Why just Wii U? GameCube didn't sell well and even if you say it sold more than the Wii u that was 2 decades ago.

GBA was a true "port machine". 5 of its Top 10 best-selling games were ports (Super Mario Advance 1/2/3/4 and Zelda Link to the Past).

Basically, if you didnt buy a GBA for Pokemon or Mario Kart, you bought it for ports or remakes of NES/SNES games.

I don't really mind if Wii U games get ported to Switch as only 2 Wii U games i have get ported to Switch (Mario Kart 8 and LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER).
But the Switch version have a lot of things that not available from Wii U version.
The other ported Wii U games i might consider such as Captain Toad, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe.
Btw, not interested with Pikmin games.

In some cases I think Wii U works better. People will no doubt disagree with me but the Miiverse was awesome and nothing can replace the junk people threw on there, to see what I am talking about see "Miiverse gone wrong" on YouTube. I miss the funny loading noises and the update music.

Both are radically different systems with different purposes in mind. Playing Wonderful 101 on Wii U is still better to me because I do not like how they have handled the port. On Switch you get the better media storage, faster load times and portability but the regular Switch just seems so.......... alien.

The thing people never really draw attention to is playing these games on Wii U is still a very different feeling to playing them on Switch. Switch is just not what Wii U was and I accepted it and now keep my Lite sleeping beside me. They can bring all the Wii U games they want the systems are still completely different in feeling.

Nintendo released Kirby Star Allies, Sushi Strikers, Labo, Mario Tennis Aces, Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, Smash Bros Ultimate, Yoshi Crafted World, Fire Emblem Threehouses, Super Mario Maker 2, Astral Chain, Ring Fit Adventure, Link's Awakening remake, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Sword/Shield, Animal Crossing NH, Paper Mario Origami King and Clubhouse Games in that period without counting wii u ports. And even in 2017 you didn't count many other games outside of Odyssey. Don't be disingenuous just because you don't like those games, because they exist. Be fair in your arguments.

@AJDarkstar Yeah the Wii U version momentarily used to go below 60 fps and dipped into the early-mid 50s during more intensive sequences with larger enemy counts. The Switch version is much more consistent in that regard.

@Mgene15 There's more new games from Nintendo on the Switch than wii u ports released by them, by far. Only 8 wii u ports counting with Pikmin 3 against more than 20 new games. And I'm not even counting digital only games from them like Boxboy and Good Job.

@sixrings Already being HD is a big part of it, I assume. I can imagine (and this is all that this is) that porting earlier games would require resources close to those of developing original games, where porting HD games requires less. But you're right, those are some great libraries featuring some fantastic games, and having them easily available with improved production values would be wonderful.

Maybe if they weren't full price and or actually had $60 worth of enhancements. Just re-releasing something with the DLC in a GOTY Edition or for a new console is fine, but not when you're Nintendo and the game rarely if ever goes down in price for even a sale.

I never owned a WiiU, and saw the Wii as a too much a gemic and not a console for games. That said I am glad to have WiiU ports as I missed out on so much; I totally heart XB series even though it is 3rd party. Even better some ports have extra things as a remastered version.
BUT,
I can see the argument if I owned and played my WiiU that I would be ready for a New Chapter from Nintendo, not the high school lunch room S.O.S.

That's really questionable when people on here will hate on Activision but they released two trilogys which both needed a lot of work for less money then Nintendo sells theirs for. There are so many GameCube and Wii games I'd buy if they were HD yet alone remastered.

I love the way N sees their software - it’s so high quality it would be devalued by charging less. £60 is spot on for this wonderful creation and fine by me - I’ll buy it again just to suport them - and 1080p is a draw as well.

Yoshis crafted world and kirby where largly forgotten after release. Luigis mansion ill give you, sword abd sheild where lazy, ring fit ill give you credit, lets go pokemons where uprezzed ports that only existed to support the pokeball and poke go, fire emblem was good. And the rest i wouldnt had even brought up because hyoe for them is really nonexistent

Totally agree. And I'm happy that people who didn't had the WiiU can now enjoy an enhanced edition of the best games of the console in the Switch, and take them anywhere.
But putting game full price, and deleting the WiiU version is a kick in the groin to Nintendo fans, basically because the WiiU one is way cheaper.

As someone who skipped the wiiU I don’t mind this so much. I can see the price complaint as valid. However, some games included all DLC. I’m unaware of the cost but in some cases the port is a good value and others not.
DKC TF, as I understand little was added and it was actually more expensive than on wiiU.
MK8DX, all DLC was included, the game was technically superior, and had pretty substantial additions. That’s an example of a port done right.
NSMB U DX: not worth the price.
We’ll see how pikmin 3 fares once all is revealed.

About 50 million more people own a Switch. If you think Nintendo weren't going to try to take advantage of that by releasing games from Wii U, you're daft. Yes they could be cheaper but if you don't want to double dip you don't have to. Honestly the percentage of people who owned this on Wii U who have a Switch, who will decide to buy it again is VERY small compared with the number of first time purchases. And I'm afraid it's those customers Nintendo are aiming the price tag at, not the smaller percentage.

I missed the Wii U generation because I was working in a particular kind of career that didn't allow for the expectations of having access to a gaming system, as even having a television, Internet, or electricity and running water was not a guarantee in the countries and communities I was assigned to then. So all the ports are not only welcome for me who missed the Wii U, but because the next assignment, I can bring the Switch with me and not need a TV.

I don't care about Pikmin. But I like that the Switch is considered a porting machine.
In my opinion the peak of console gaming was at the PS1, Dreamcast, PS2 ballpark.
And getting some things from these generations on Switch, as well as stuff like Sega Ages, makes me more them just happy.

The re-releases, ports, and indies on Switch make me love the system more, hence why I tend to ask for old games to come back more than asking for new games--DKC trilogy for example!

@Severian I lived off of downloaded (not streamed) video content. Had multiple portable hard drives for exactly this reason, same reason with the Switch I keep 3 microSDs with all the games I own downloaded and patched.

@Nemesis666 while there is still a "buy" rating on Nintendo's stock. But some analysts think Nintendo will peak next year as it only has its Switch, unlike Sony and others who do not rely on the one product.

But I'm sure Nintendo already know this, they have been there before. If gamers are frustrated by the lack of Nintendo games and news, this year the so are share holders.

The WiiU was a great machine, it's a shame it didn't sell as well as it should have. People were confused and thought it was an add-on to the Wii, so didn't think about picking one up.

I for one like that games like Pikmin 3 are coming onto Switch, it gives a new lease of life to games which didn't sell as well as Nintendo would have liked. However, i'm not a fan of these "deluxe" versions being sold for full price. Some of these "deluxe" versions come with all the DLC (Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros U). Others like DK Tropical Freeze do not.

If these remasters were £10 cheaper, it would be better.

It is a port machine as long as the ports are as well as and not instead of, new releases. Unfortunately Nintendo are seeing ports as new releases.

We should be seeing ports or remakes of N64 and cube games, but Nintendo doesn't want to rock the Third Party or Indi market to much.

After all gamers have budgets and they don't necessarily buy more game because more are being released on the Switch. More games offer more choice for the gamer, but sales per game will be lower because of choice.

@elpardo1984 Well, definitely. But it's still a valid point I think. It does feel like Nintendo is using the ported Switch games to fill out their release schedule. I mean, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the reason why we haven't had Mario Kart 9 yet. New Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is the reason why we haven't had a 2D Mario yet. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze is the reason why we haven't seen a DK game yet. Is Pikmin 3 Deluxe the reason why we're not getting Pikmin 4? I really hope not.

Additionally, I think that the price of these ports is also way too high, even if there is a new bonus level or two (I mean, I'd like to play the extra content, but I'm not buying the whole game again just to access it, so I wish it was made available as standalone content as well).

In hindsight it would've been a lot better to just skip the Wii U and buy them all on Switch. But it is what it is. It just stings a bit that the people who bought the Wii U and all their games are now in this position. And they were probably their most hardcore fans as well.

And yeah, the lack of new games doesn't really help. Or the fact that there's nothing on the horizon. Maybe they'll announce a brand new game next week? Or maybe they don't. It would help if there's something to look forward to. BOTW 2 and Metroid Prime 4 are coming, but who knows when. They could be two years away for all we know!

I don't have a problem with ports from Wii U, so long as they're not basically acting as slightly lazy replacements for brand new Switch versions of games in these franchises--but they kinda are. I mean, technically we still haven't gotten a truly new core Pikmin or Mario Kart or Donkey Kong or Metroid or F-Zero or Punch-Out!! or Star Fox or full 3D Zelda or Smash Bros. game, etc, on Switch yet. We either have nothing or slightly tweaked ports from last gen. That's not exactly stellar work from Nintendo, and I don't personally get how any long-time Nintendo gamer and true fan could be happy with that in 2020.

While it is nice Switch owners get a chance to play Pikmin 3 I would really rather be seeing more new games like Origami King. Three years in and Nintendo haven't got much further than Wii U's library and projects. It was painful enough the first time waiting for the then "new" games.
Edit: Infact I'd rather be seeing GameCube ports, waverace, Eternal darkness, F zero, Twin Snakes, Double dash, Rogue squadron, Fire emblem, Soul calibur 2 etc. Wii U was propped up with two Zelda ports, one made by Tantalus. Switch is being propped up by Wii U games. I think I own one Switch exclusive game in Astral chain. That is pretty pathetic (imo)for a console that has put Nintendo back on the map.

@Octane you’re right does seem like the Wii U was one to avoid. It would have been nice if they offered some sort of trade in for ports as they seem intent on wiping the U from history.

I'm all for Wii U ports too, but Nintendo is too greedy, they shouldn't sell these ports the same price as new games. I understand they're here to make money and all, but stopping selling Pikmin 3 on the Wii U eShop, just to sell 50€ on Switch is a bit of a plunder.

That said, people need to be smart, if I wanted to replay Pikmin 3, I'd just buy a second hand copy and play it on Wii U, or wait a bit to enjoy it on Switch if I really need or want to play it there.

Ports are good overall, it's a nice way to fill up the planning between several releases, especially when games needs to be delayed (like Metroid Prime 4), what kind of upset me, is selling these games at the premium price when they're old.

I just want the two Zelda's.

Don't care about this or anything else apart from those two.

The Switch is an excellent console to have if you have been away from gaming at all for the last 20 years, like someone I know... (🙋‍♂️) I welcome whatever!!

As a day one Wii U owner, I say the more ports the better. Porting the games in no way diminishes the enjoyment I got from playing the originals on Wii U years ago. Plus the ports are new releases to at least 80% of switch owners.
Yeah, it would be nice if the price was lower but at the end of the day you either want it enough to pay the asking price or you don't.

I can more easily imagine Nintendo porting GameCube titles like F-Zero, Chibi-Robo, or Eternal Darkness to test the sales waters on long-dormant franchises, rather than the development of new titles in the series.

If Pikmin were not under the patronage of Miyamoto, I could almost believe that port would be part of the same strategy. I will be watching closely for a possible Wind Waker HD re-release in 2021, eight years after its original sale. If no 2D Metroid game is released this year, as per the rumours, then the release or lack of Metroid Prime Trilogy will also be informative of Nintendo's thinking (... or maybe just their performance...)

@electrolite77 I guess they can continue to port beg for the Zelda HD games and 3D World. Plus all the games on the Wii U VC that NSO still doesn't have.

@Agent069 People buying Pikmin 3 used doesn't make it ok that Nintendo delisted it from the Wii U eShop. They also delisted the DLC so owners of the Wii U version can no longer get the DLC at all.

I also want to point out the some remakes/ports are NOT better than the originals and in the case of the Wii U ports, the Switch doesn't have a second screen.

@Crono1973 it will be relisted eventually. Tropical freeze et Al got delisted, and they are right back in the Selects category on Wii U eshop. The only one missing is Pikmin 3. No big loss tbh it was a 7/10 game imho.

@Lady_rosalina Probably because most people wouldn't want to buy a whole console just to play one game. It's almost as if thats the reasons ports exist. Crazy huh?

I Thought pikmin 3 done well sales wise for Wii U, in fact at one point it i believe it was at no 1 in the charts in japan and UK. And now we have it coming out on a console that is selling really well. This will be no one in the charts easy!. Also played it before but didn't get the dlc and looking forward to double dipping and the extra content.

@Crono1973 the game has been available on Wii U for 7 years, a few months being delisted won't affect it's 1.2 million sales figure. Switch will likely double it's sales figures and single handedly fund Pikmin 4. We know it is anti consumer, and we won't be the people buying Pikmin 3 on Switch. It's for the trendies that Nintendo love to milk. It isn't right, but Nintendo will always be Nintendo, stubborn, deaf and with the occasional spark of genius.

i never owned a wii u and i refuse to pay 80cad for ports. why would i make an exception for nintendo if most last gen ports by other publishers are no higher than 50$? i don't care those games "didn't have a chance of selling" it was nintendo's fault to begin with. they were the ones poorly marketing the wii u and consumer shouldn't have to pay for nintendo's mistakes.

@TheFrenchiestFry It's tricky for Nintendo to add more content, Switch carts don't have as much memory as the Wii U discs, and Nintendo fans, especially here all hate downloading.

I hope when Metroid Prime Trilogy comes, it comes with Federation Force. Was playing it today, managed to actually find enough people to play a level, but with a bigger install base, I might be able to play the game all the way through.

I would love to see Paper Mario: Thousand Doors Remake for the Switch. That's the best Paper Mario game in the series for me.

@JimmySpades If someone is raving about something like GOT it would be logical they hoping for a big new experience on their handheld "2nd device" also. Not sure why you think their "preference in games" changes when they leave their homes. They are not playing rehashed old ports on their PS4/PC either!

If you been playing Animal crossing at home, you are set - great, good for you - write 200 comments on how great everything is. When that group is stuck in a Hotel in Boston for work (where everything is closed) they can play AC also. For the rest who been playing F12020, Nioh 2, TLOU2, GOT, Control at Home we are just sitting around wishing we were home (and now with another rehash on the horizon). And obvious Nintendo cant do 12 new AAA games a year, so then 3rd party cant release 7 months of rehash also.

Thanks for proving my point. People ask all the time for Wii U games to be ported to the switch so they can experience them for the first time.
