Since its January reveal, the question on many people's lips has been can Nintendo Labo's cardboard construction kit survive the novelty factor and wear 'n' tear of younger audiences to genuinely engage creative minds beyond customisation?
If early indications are to be believed, the answer is, emphatically, yes, as Japanese and American Switch owners put the depth and obscurity of Nintendo Labo through its paces (we Switch owners in the EU have to wait until later this week).
So keep you going until then, here are some top picks from the first few days with the kits.

Some are really beginning to show off the depth of the Toy-Con Garage programming...
Of course, creative genius comes at a price... bed time to be precise!

Not interested in this cardboard thing.
Make it in plastic with a decent full game and I will consider.
I think Nintendo is going to keep on updating the softwares for LABO, especially the Toycon Garage. It's going to have more content down the road. This is like a tangible Little Big Planet that players can create whatever they imagined.
I twittered directly @ you guys my custom labo piano and no shout out. Boooooooo
Psst I'm farourrobot on twitter
@hakjie11 That was called the Wii U. And nobody bought one.
I know somebody who is going to be happy w/ the 5th one. @MJKOP I guessed it in 5 notes, I'm guessing it will take you 2 tops.
Aw....
The Piano can record the music playing until 1 minute.
If only can be extended until 10 minutes.
And i wonder if i can set gradual BPM like this song on DDR X2. (Every Quarter beat, the BPM + 1 until the end of song)
OK let's try this again @MartyFlanMJFan apparently it doens't like your old name.
I cannot understate as an adult how underwhelming cardboard and $80 looks but over delivers once you actually play! PLAY IT. I CHALLENGE YOU TO HATE IT!
Easily the best value out there in terms of Variety of gameplay and education and innovation. More complex than meets the eyes guys. Support this because THIS is the creative Nintendo we always need.
Nintendo has given us way less content and imaginatively at this price point.
Really, that's what people came up with? Where's the creativity, the ingenuity?!
@hakjie11 I don't think you've understood what Labo is. It's not a game, it's a programming kit to make you own tools or toys. You can 3D print the plastic yourself (or let it be printed by a 3D-printing service), doesn't have to be cardboard.
Honestly I salute Nintendo and it’s creativity as no other company would have come out with this. Hope it does well for its target audience
@hakjie11,
I have just e-mailed Nintendo to see if they will make the whole thing again just for you....just don't hold your breath until they get back to me.
@hakjie11
You clearly missed the point of Nintendo Labo.🙄
You can say what you want, but it seems like Nintendo Labo already IS a big thing!
Itˋs certainly no videogame in the classic sense of the word, but it is a very cool and interesting concept with a sheer amount of possibilities and it shows the Switch is THE most versatile game console this gen.👍
@rjejr ha literally half a second! Thank you for bringing that to my attention, otherwise I may have missed it!
@Pa1nbow thanks for the feedback.
Do you think it'd fit a 3 yo toddler?
Im loving Labo and I havent even gotten to the creator studio stuff yet. Full grown adult for the record. This is pure fun.
Went to Target and Wal Mart yesterday. Shelves full of this crap. Flop city as expected.
@MartyFlanMJFan Glad you enjoyed it. You getting Labo? Seems right up your alley.
@desy64 3 is a big stretch. I think 8 and up. Think of it as science fair projects that you would have been boss in school for making. But my point is the value is their. All those dismissed who say "just 85 for cardboard "
There are those who say this game is stupid. But I PROMISE anyone who gives this a go will find something in it for themselves. It's just hits fun and education from so many visual and tactile ways. E for everyone for surrrrre
All boring. Not surprising.
Hey, Nintendo. Can you do something else, so we actually have something to talk about that isn't an indie, labo, or a canvas bag revealing characters for mario tennis?
For instance you may think that the piano amounts to the same toy you give a toddle. Just basic scale.
What you find is a deceptively deep DAW and synth option. For goodness sakes it scans waveforms. Tell me a $89 midi keyboard with comp features. And this is a "toy"
@rjejr funny I was looking on Amazon earlier, about an hour ago, they seem to be sold out completely. My son was seven on Friday, we got him Mario + Rabbids, which he is absolutely loving... he wanted the Robot kit and I told him it's too expensive as a birthday present from us, but he could buy it himself with whatever birthday money he got... We had a birthday party yesterday for him and he's now worth a small fortune so I guess there'll be some Nintendo branded cardboard in our house by the weekend!
@MartyFlanMJFan Good luck finding it. Giant cardboard robot and 7 year old seems like a match made in heaven in my book. When I was probably about 11 or 12 I mailed away for instructions on how to build your own robot out of cardboard from the back of a magazine or comic. I never built it, but at least it was only $1. My mother never would let me order the submarine though. Probably for the best.
The hate for this is sad. It is brilliantly Nintendo and something that should be praised. I'm not buying it, but it doesn't take away from what it is and the enjoyment that so many will get from it. Nintendo is still working on the games that I want, until they are finished I'll play the games I have and enjoy some of the amazing stories and creations that come from Labo that are sure to become regular stories here in NLife
Cool stuff--and this is very early days indeed.
@Pa1nbow it may be used as a DAW?! Wtf? My interest in this "toy" is growing more and more

Labo is an awesome idea, but I can’t help but think Nintendo will stop supporting it soon. It reminds me of the Wii Fit, skylanders, and even amiibo to some extent. They are all really innovative products that had excellent launches which fizzled out due to lack of support. That said, I really hope Labo can succeed!
@hakjie11
You haven't tried yet by yourself.
Once you tried, you will get addicted with Cardboard.
Trust me.
@Pa1nbow sorry about that! I'm pretty sure we will do another one!
@Anti-Matter
I do like the concept of it, I just don't like the cardboard material and I don't think smaller kids can put together all the cardboard folding work themselves without accidentally tearing pieces of it. So they would be missing out on half of the fun already.
@desy64 daw in a light sense but basic midi functionality. Looks easy to expand on...or what about korg app support?
@hakjie11 have you actually touched one? When you do you will find the most solid and crisp cardboard that somehow folds easy and perfect and never rips. I can't explain how but it is.
@Pa1nbow I am really curious and it must be a great experience the first time you are trying to cardboard creation with the game. But doesn't the novelty "after" you have folded the cardboards wear off quickly? I don't see much replay-value for people who have tried the game for few times.
Never thought I'd see Loss in Nintendo Life.
Nice.
