Re: Nintendo Sends Out Second Game-Key Card & Physical Game Survey

Darkly

Laughs in owning old games such as NES and SNES games that have the game data on it-not owning a switch which doesn't have that

All jokes aside: owning the game card or cartridge, or disc or whatever, despite not really being able to do much with the data on the cart if you're a more of a normal person, not dumping the games cart data or anything; it really gives off a sense of ownership being able to hold the game in your hands. for example: I bought a few new NES games recently. they are super cool. they have the game data on it, which my NES can read from and play some spectacular games, and it's nostalgic and physical.
but having a game card that acts as a physical method of a game "pass" or key to access a digital game ruins the physical experience that old games like NES and SNES cartridges would give off, at least to me.

this is one reason that I don't really want a switch 2. Sure, there are some cool games, especially ones I'm looking forward to, such as Kirby Air Riders, and the Kirby and the Forgotten land DLC, among other cool games. but not being able to be trusted to have the game I oh-so "purchased" with my hard-earned money really kills the experience for me.

I'm not entirely sure if Nintendo does this, but modern gaming has been very controlled by the creators/developers of big games. albeit, some people may not be deliberately trying to be in control of the consumer, but a number of big companies somewhat are.

If I were to be able to hold the actual game cart containing the data in my hands, by all means, I would definitely want to get a switch 2 (maybe) and some of the games I would like.

TL; DR:
I like my physical games with their own data on them.

*This is a shared thought and a personal experience. take it how you will. I wouldn't want anything too serious or debated to become of this as I've had trouble with that in the past.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Confirms He's Working On A New Game

Darkly

Great video, great game developer.
as for the proposal: I have no clue.
I don't have many thoughts about it:

  • Smash Bros kind of felt like it ended for a while with Ultimate,
  • Kirby has been... weird lately when it comes to a release schedule, and I don't think Sakurai has worked on it for a while, since Air Ride, right? or am I remembering wrong?
  • Not big on Kid Icarus (potential yet), so No opinion there.
  • Never heard of Metoes.
  • I have a feeling it's "something else", because Sakurai has been working really hard on Smash Bros (well, when he did), on Kirby (when he did), and other things I guess, so during those times, he might have had a new idea. Plus, why else would he share a proposal for a new game. and new games and ideas are always great, especially from the creator of Kirby, just look how great that did!

Re: Talking Point: After A September No-Show, Will There Be An October Nintendo Direct?

Darkly

Late year direct (July or so), and no September direct-I guess we’ll most likely get an announcement for a direct or a next-gen console in November or such, since so many people are looking forward to Brothership that months. Or after Brothership, when they’re practically done, they’ll probably announce something.
My opinion, take it how you will.
They said this fiscal year, so probably before the end of the year or so.

Re: Soapbox: The Trauma Of Giygas & Growing Up In EarthBound

Darkly

Ah, how inspiring the silly but then terrorizing last moments against Giegue.
Mother 2 GYIYG STRIKES BACK! Was such an adventure.
Spoilers: Everything from the Apple of Enlightenment (which wasn’t very enlightening to Giygas after all), to the terrifyingly sounding Devil’s Machine, which-honestly-is very terrifying once you see Ness’ face on it.
It really could bring a feeling of consternation if you look at it the right way.

Re: Poll: Are You Ready To Move On From The Switch?

Darkly

I moved on like a year ago.. and started playing games on the GBA among others like the GameCube…
Not necessarily moving onto the next console (as in the switch’s successor), but as in I moved onto playing older consoles cause they just have some of the best games Nintendo has to offer… and cause they’re just really fun to play regardless.

Re: Random: "Let Them Play, First Thing!" - Sakurai Is Tired Of Slow Game Openings

Darkly

It really depends on the game. for example, games like Mother 3 (Apologies, I love this game) have quite a long intro if you're looking for some action and gameplay. but it sort of is fine, because when it does get into the action, it's really intense, especially with the (Spoilers:)
||sunshine forest getting set on fire by the Pigmasks, and the F-F-FIRE!!! theme playing. for me, that really hits the spot. || but that's sort of my opinion.
but it also depends on the person too. whether someone really likes story, or gameplay.
so whichever one you are-Cool.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition?

Darkly

"...putting your D-pad reflexes to the test with your friends."
I love reading this and then thinking about how much I play the actual NES, among other D-Pad only consoles I love to play.

also, I actually quite prefer the D-Pad over control sticks (but no D-Pad, nor control stick could compare to the sheer dominance the GameCube Controller has when it comes to control sticks).

Okay; Jokes and opinions aside: this game isn't very high on my list, so I'm not getting it anytime soon. but it does look like a fun game to play eventually.

Re: Reaction: A Direct That Delivered, And Shows That Switch Still Has Plenty Of Pep

Darkly

No Earthbound, so automatic 0/10!
Ok, jokes aside, the direct was quite good; Mario & Luigi is finally making the return it needs, and it looks fantastic already.
and the new Zelda game, despite staring Zelda, which I thought was a little weird, has the same art style as the Links awakening remake, and I love the Link's Awakening (remake) art style.
Other than that, there isn't much hype, I already have Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon on 3DS, so there isn't much for me in the HD remaster.

a few other things I thought were cool was the Dragon Warrior remakes.

I also really liked that they're putting Four Swords on switch online now, I love that game! and I can't wait to play with others with an actually good way to play it (you know, by what Nintendo wants and doesn't want).

Re: We're Getting A Brand New 'Mario & Luigi' RPG This November

Darkly

I yelled so loudly when I saw the Mario & Luigi logo.
I literally could not believe my eyes, there is no way Nintendo is this nice!
I'm curious to see how they do it without Alphadream.
I knew, from the moment I saw the Mario and Luigi renders (Because they look exactly like the Paper jam and/or Dream team art/renders) I knew it was either a new or brought back Mario & Luigi game.

Re: Nintendo Direct June 2024: Time, Where To Watch, What To Expect

Darkly

ight. time to potentially be disappointed about the heartbreaking "no Mother 3" news again.
jokes aside, here's my list:

  • Def Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD
  • Probably something related to Final Fantasy or Fire Emblem
  • Maybe a new Kirby game of sorts
  • 100% probably some new NSO games
  • Def NES world championships
  • Obviously some Indie games
  • They’re def going to have some mario (if not, Luigi)
  • And Zelda stuff 100%
  • There have been rumors of Dragon Warrior 3 or so coming
  • I highly doubt it, but maybe a Metroid thing.
  • There is no way they do not have anything for Mother/Earthbound (Because it’s Earthbound's 30th anniversary.!), so that!

There isn’t much hype or any news or anything, so idk.
Pardon my child-like writing; I don't usually write like this, but since I'm busy right now I'm just throwing this in real quick cause why not.

Re: Talking Point: HD-2D Or 3D - How Should Square Enix Remake Chrono Trigger?

Darkly

Despite my short time playing it, I think HD-2D just makes the most sense for Chrono Trigger. I think the style of the game is great, and I don’t think it should be change super much. I do think there could be some quality of life changes, and maybe a graphics change, and the HD-2D might be good. But other than that, since I haven’t played much of Chrono Trigger, I’m not sure what else to say, lol.

Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?

Darkly

A remaster is generally a revision of a game or something that adds things such as quality-of-life features, and maybe some other changes if it is brought to a different console or something (e.g. Wind Waker HD. It changed a few things, such as items and other minor things, mainly because the Wii U is so different from the GameCube: you can't plug in a GBA or something with an extra screen to really do with what you pleased with Tingle, so I guess Nintendo's solution was to give you a better sail or whatever it was he gave you.).
Remakes are generally full blown, redone versions of a thing (In this case, a game) using the original as a base. one would usually add many new features of sorts, 100% better graphics, and all the stuff you would usually see in a Remake. Like Remasters, they would definitely change some aspects for the changing times and culture.

So, for short:
Remaster=(technically) new version, adding quality-of-life features and some other minor changes,
Remakes=Often full-blown revisions, adding completely new things, mechanics sometimes, and adding quality-of-life features too.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (27th April)

Darkly

@versionfiv I’m kind of getting a refresher on the game, since I haven’t played it in a while, and cause the game is one of my top favorites.
And yeah, the remake is coming out later, so I’ll definitely want to play the original to get a feel and used to it for when I play the remake.

Re: Super Mario RPG: How To Do 100 Super Jumps & Get The Best Armor In The Game

Darkly

One good way to do it is to look at Mario's shadow and the enemy shadows while jumping. When their shadows overlap, them pressing "X" "Y" "A" B" will have you do another jump.

Another way is to press the button in timing as if you're pressing the button to make Mario jump normally again. So keep that in mind when doing it.
I haven't gotten 100 yet, but I've almost gotten half-way through.
