Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is closer to a traditional RPG than many later Paper Mario games. Where future games in the series don't have a clear-cut levelling system The Thousand-Year Door heavily relies on one as a central mechanic.
If you’re looking to find out how to quickly and efficiently farm Star Points and figure out which stats are best to raise, we’ve got you covered. Let’s-a-go!

How do I level up?
Every time Mario defeats an enemy, it’ll drop Star Points – which is Paper Mario's equivalent of Experience Points (EXP). When Mario collects 100 Star Points, he levels up!
Each time you level up, you have the opportunity to raise your Health Points (HP), Flower Points (FP), or Badge Points (BP).
Which stats should I raise when I level up?
As mentioned above, you’re presented with a choice each time you level up — do you raise Mario's HP, FP, or BP?
Our recommendation: focus on BP while giving very slightly less priority to HP. Mario can equip Badges that raise his evasion when he’s in danger, which can come in clutch against the more difficult enemies and bosses. That being said, you do still want to raise HP once in a while – you should just focus on BP and sometimes FP.
Another benefit to increasing BP is that Mario will be able to access new attacks if he equips certain Badges. Quake Hammer in particular is incredibly helpful against many of the game’s bosses, and Badges like Multibounce can help you take out rows of enemies with ease.
