Re: Poll: So, What Was Nintendo's Best Year Ever?

DarkSim01

I have unimaginable, amazing memories of many of these years, all the way back to when my Great Uncle bought us our first NES. And of course, many of these years stand out more than others.

But I had to pick 2006. The Wii revolutionized gaming as a whole, not just Nintendo, bring motion controls to the home at a reasonable price. Add in NSMB and Twilight Princess and you have a special year for the industry.

Of course, 2017 was close... but not as revolutionary as 2006, in my opinion.

Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash

DarkSim01

@Kamalen Thank you. Some people just can't accept that something can just be bad without someone else being to blame. It goes hand-in-hand with this generation (sadly, my generation) of people born between 1985 and 2005 that can't accept failure, take responsibility or stop playing victim. Not all, not all, not all... but most.

Sometimes you screw up, sometimes you make bad decisions, sometimes the fault lies with yourself. And that's ok. It's not the mistake that defines you... it's how you respond. Accepting it and learning is the adult thing to do. Playing victim and blaming this intangible concept of "cancel culture" or "systemic" whatever is the child's response.

The best response they could have made was, "This game isn't intended to "offend" people, but it's not for everyone. We hope you give it a chance and enjoy it. If not, we hope you enjoy one of our other titles that may be more suited to your tastes."

Re: Nintendo Registers New 'Mario Sports' Trademark

DarkSim01

@sixrings Oh, don't get me wrong, I would 100% assume there would be control options for button layout and motion control. Of course, that would enable play on the Switch Lite. I think think the impressive technology the joycons have would give great functionality for those who prefer to use motion controls.

Personally, I haven't had any problems with the motion or HD rumble with my joycon, and only one of my 6 had joystick drifting (knock on wood).

Re: Gamer Girl Developer Removes Trailer And Marketing Materials Following Online Backlash

DarkSim01

Cancel Culture is the idea of a mob demanding someone or something be canceled, de-platformed or refused work for wrong-think, political beliefs or "offensive" statements.

This game trailer has been taken down (and the game possibly canceled) because the developers received critical opinions. People explained why the game looks horrible and why it they see it as being in bad taste, and Wales Interactive either couldn't handle criticism or realized how idiotic this game is.

Those two situations are not the same. Those tweets, for example, aren't demanding the game be canceled or the trailer be pulled. They're just pointing out that this game is ridiculous on the surface and nothing more than a Twitch Mod training simulator for (yes, I'll use the word) beta males and simps to feel like they're a part of a good-looking woman's life by being a mod.

Re: Game Director Swery Will Rewrite At Least One Scene In Deadly Premonition 2

DarkSim01

@garfreek That seems like something that could be fixed in a small patch, without the need for a massive public apology. That's one of the big problems with this, in my opinion. They felt the need to have this big announcement, which is clearly just to show how "woke" they are for making these changes. And of course, when it comes to technical and performance issues.... crickets. It's pandering to the extreme.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's ARMS Fighter Will Be Revealed In Livestream Next Week

DarkSim01

I'm hoping for one of these options, in this order:
1. A Bowser Jr./Koopaling situation with Ribbon Girl, Min Min, Ninjara, Kid Cobra, Lola Pop, Springtron, Dr. Coyle and Spring Man (promoted from an Assist Trophy)... This would also lead to a Waluigi moment at the end, either revealing him as well or trolling, leaving him sad that he "isn't joining," only to be revealed as the final fighter of the game.

2. Max Brass to add another heavyweight and villain, almost like a DK with better attack and grab range.

3. Helix, in various colors. He would be the easiest, most lighthearted choice in my opinion. But he's not quite the "mascot" of the franchise like Spring Man and Ribbon Girl are.

Re: Poll: Which Remastered Mario Games Would You Pick For A 'Super Mario All-Stars 2'?

DarkSim01

I'd save have a final All-Stars Classic that has everything left up through N64 for say $20:
Super Mario Land 1/2
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64

Then a collection of for about $30-40:
Super Mario Sunshine
New Super Mario Bros
New Super Mario Bros Wii
New Super Mario Bros 2

And finally a full package for $60 of:
Super Mario Galaxy 1/2
Super Mario 3D Land
Super Mario 3D World

Though if I'm thinking like a businessman, I would put the Galaxy games as their own package and Mario 3D Land/World as their own package and sell both for about $45-50, because you know they would sell.

Re: Star Wars Episode I: Racer Is Getting Remade On Switch

DarkSim01

FINALLY!!! I've been wanting to play this game again for so long. And them remaking it rather than just porting it is just icing on the cake. This was easily one of my favorites on N64, right up there with Perfect Dark and Mario Kart 64.

But, while the podracing sequence was the most technologically impressive sequence in the film, it certainly wasn't the best part of the film. That's just wrong.

Re: Feature: Just Who The Heck Is Terry Bogard, Smash Bros. Ultimate's New DLC Fighter?

DarkSim01

Terry is an excellent choice for the game. Iconic for his era and a fighting game mainstay.

I can kind of understand younger folks not knowing who he is, but anyone over 25 not knowing him is very disappointing.

I'm glad they aren't including the female alternate, because I see that as nothing more than a one-off attention grabber for a game built on virtue signalling, but couldn't do it without his inclusion.

Re: Guide: Where To Pre-Order Ring Fit Adventure

DarkSim01

@HappyMaskedGuy
What would you consider a "real video game?"

Who are you to determine how Nintendo should utilize their resources?

Just because you personally don't like something doesn't make it a waste. It's just something you wouldn't buy. Contrary to your apparent beliefs, you are not the sole target audience of the video game industry.

Without ventures like this, experimenting with new technology and game styles, we wouldn't be where we are today and you wouldn't have the "real video games" you referenced.

Take a step down from your high horse, just acknowledge that while this isn't for you but might be for someone else and move on with your life. You'll be a much happier person.

Re: Nintendo Announces Its Plans For E3 2019 Including Direct Times

DarkSim01

I think it'll be a lot of info on stuff we already know, with one big surprise.

I imagine we'll get some missing info (release dates, etc.) and footage (introductory or new) from Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Astral Chain, Daemon X Machina, Mario and Sonic Olympics, Link's Awakening and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I could see something about Dragon Quest XI S also.

For the surprise announcement, I'm thinking two Smash Ultimate DLC announcements.

I think Pokemon will be saved for it's own event, personally.

Re: Review: NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 - Microtransactions Can't Sink This Enjoyable B-Ball Romp

DarkSim01

It's a fun game if you like arcade style sports.
Nothing will capture the magic of NBA Jam. That's the effect nostalgia has. It's the Star Wars argument: nothing will be as good as the originals.
The gameplay isn't perfect, but it's tight and responsive.
The microtransactions are irrelevant. Aside from unlocking the entire roster (offered in the first game), it's all cosmetic. There's no upgrade or gameplay advantage that can be purchased.

For sports fans, especially those that like arcade style sports games, 8/10 is about right.

Re: Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow To Showcase Upcoming Switch And 3DS Titles

DarkSim01

I'll predict:
More Switch Online details
Metroid Prime HD Trilogy for Holiday season (Switch and 3DS), reminder of Metroid Prime 4
Wario Ware spotlight (3DS)
Luigi's Mansion info (3DS)
More on Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey (3DS)
Super Mario Party spotlight, game mode info
New Super Mario Bros and Luigi Bros ported to Switch
Mario Maker Switch port announced

And of course, a few other little sprinkles of smaller games.

Re: Nintendo Launches Free Interactive Labo Workshops for Kids Across The US

DarkSim01

Not doing it during the Summer break likely only hurts for the people that don't live in or around those major cities.

It would be nice if it was during the Summer, so out of town families could be more likely to attend. But as HobbitGamer said, they would lose a lot of potential attendees to family vacations and Summer Camps.

It's a double edged sword, so they probably just went with the one closer to their marketing plan and prep for the holiday push.

Re: NBA Playgrounds 2 Will Now Be Published By 2K Games, Adding Some "NBA 2K Flair"

DarkSim01

"2k Flair" roughly translates to "microtransactions."

As long as they keep the core gameplay in place, don't make microtranstactions necessary (just cosmetic stuff would be ok) and add more content that 2k has the rights too (mostly more players that have deals like 2k), it can still be worth buying.

I'm also worried to price will suddenly skyrocket from $20 to $40 or more.

Re: Reggie Says Nintendo Switch Online Will Connect You To Legacy Content "In A Meaningful Way"

DarkSim01

Some of you guys have some unrealistic ideas and are looking at this from a very pessimistic view point.

Pay to play online is normal.
Retro games is a nice bonus for many of the older gamers. And you know the library will continue to evolve. The 20 game start (10 of which have been named) is just a tease.
Charging for cloud saves is normal.
Exclusive game discounts has been verified.
The release is still months away and a big deal for Nintendo. They can't announce everything now and leave no excitement for the release.

People asking for every NES, SNES and N64 games, rather than just first party stuff, that's insane. You have to remember that Nintendo doesn't own the rights to all of those games. They would have to pay for additional distribution rights to be able to port these games, not to mention the manpower from developers to port them over. It's just unrealistic.

This a promising step in the right direction with a lot to offer. It matches up well enough with PS+ and XBox Live Gold, at one third of the price.

I'm excited for this and ready for it to come.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Fans Are Harassing Masahiro Sakurai Over Waluigi Snub

DarkSim01

I wanted Waluigi in the game as much as, if not more than most fans. But this is WAY too far. The man put everything he has into these games and made an ultimate edition from the ground up for us.

Sadly, there are people like this in all hobbies, all genres, all games and all facets of life. And the ability to be anonymous online has just made them more vocal and more unbearable.

Pathetic.

Re: WWE 2K19 Might Be Skipping Nintendo Switch

DarkSim01

Until the 2K deal is over with WWE, they won't get back on Switch. The game engine is way too bloated for Switch to handle. Even the PS4 versions of these games have some delay and lag issues.

Pro wrestling is HUGE in Japan. Fire Pro Wrestling would be a GREAT fit on Switch. Smaller game, New Japan tie-in, retro feel and insane customization.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Is Unveiled For Switch, Every Previous Character Returns

DarkSim01

Good reveal, but not amazing, IMO. I do love the streamlined Final Smashes and the look of the game. The new animations, attires, details in the stages are great. Adding the Inkling (we knew), Ridley and Daisy is cool. But in the end, I was hoping for more new characters and less irrelevant returning characters (i.e. Pichu, Olimar, etc.).

I'm happy, but not as happy as I was hoping.
