2K has revealed that the upcoming arcade-style basketball game NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 will be arriving on Nintendo Switch on 16th October.
This two-on-two arcade basketball title is set to feature over 300 players at launch – including legendary new additions like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – with nearly 200 additional players arriving in updates after release. It was recently announced that 2K Sports would be taking over publishing duties for the title, explaining its name change from the previously stated 'NBA Playgrounds 2'.
The game will release with ten new playgrounds from all around the world, including courts in Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Seoul, and Australia, with additional courts planned for after launch to go along with those upcoming players. There will also be well over 100 signature moves, "including showstoppers like Michael Jordan’s free throw line dunk, George Gervin’s Iceman finger roll and LeBron James’ self alley-oop". You'll also find new customisation items such as jackets, shirts, shorts, and shoes.
You can play this one on your own, with friends, or against the world, with ranked leagues featuring competitive solo and co-op ladders and a new single-player Season mode which recreates the experience of leading a team through the regular season and playoffs. There's a whole lot more promised for the title, too, and it's clearly hoping to offer its own unique approach compared to the recently released NBA 2K19 - a much more realistic experience.
The game's scheduled to launch for $29.99. Other region pricing to be confirmed.

The first game came out when the eShop was relatively empty... so lots of people jumped on it and were ultimately disappointed by the game. As a result, I can see this game not doing as well.
Yup, I am one of these ultimately disappointed people. The game was not just bad, it was completely unbalanced. Might be a good chance, that this is the game how it should have been last year. And it might be a really good game now. But I won't buy it, as I felt extremely punked with last years release.
I’ll wait for the review given the first flub and the 2K franchise’s tendency to saturate their games with microtransactions. But I dearly miss the NBA Jam days and much prefer arcade style basketball to realistic.
First game was superb.
Kareem is in and so am I.
MJ and Kobe as I predicted.
Boom!
Looks like they have added to what was a superb game and with season mode I’ll be playing for a long time.
Unlocked everyone (without cheating and dlc) on both Xbox and Switch.
As someone that purchased the first game I must say that at the beginning it wasn't great, features missing, lack of training mode and help etc.
They improved the game with patches and it got better and really fun to play but it was clear that there were some points that could improve.
I hope that they did these improvements and that the second game will be better from the start.
However, I will wait for the reviews first to check if it's worth it.
Will 2K also "slam dunk" you with a physical cartridge that requires a download as large as if you had bought the game digitally?
I almost bought it last year. Now I'm glad I didn't as it sounds like it better now
After the first game being a huge unbalanced mess, no thanks! I'm still waiting for NBA Jam on Switch. EA, are you listening?
I really enjoyed the first one (flaws and all), because I love arcade sports games. But the 2k name scares me. I'm worried about microtransactions and, well, I've played the last few WWE2k games and, meh.
If the reviews are good, I'll be tempted.
Well, having MJ in the game trumps the mighty NBA Jam. I like my sports games OTT. I hope it reviews well, as I'd take this over proper sports sims any day of the week.
wow they didnt finish first game without going on to the next wait i got a fffffffffffffffffff garbage shaq fu game for free as a punishment as well.
I will get this one, and Shaq fu wasn't a bad game at all
I’ll wait on reviews.
bet it will suck just like the first one. we'll see what reviewers say
After the first one being a dumpster fire, I’m somehow hoping the second one being backed by 2k will make improvements? Just make an nba Jam already EA
If it's going to be the same as the other platforms I'll get it. If it's like last time where everything is later and a shadow of the other consoles features, I'll pass.
The first one was in no way balanced and it had its flaws to start out but I loved how fun it was. The stuff you could do was great and I loved the pairings of new and old players. I’m excited for more players. I hope the unlocking system is a bit more favorable to me this time around. Took me forever to unlock my favorite character last time.
@GrailUK having a much desired character in a game hardly forgives it if the gameplay is an utter mess like the first title was. I'd take Jam OFE without Jordan any day of the week.
@Jawessome I was just referring to the roster! I did say I would be watching the reviews before I buy it
@GrailUK fair call mate. I really hope this one improves upon the last.
