The industry is a lot more open and friendly than it used to be, especially as companies have more established histories. The reality is that a lot of people who are in the industry seriously enjoyed Ninty titles in their youth, so there will be a natural admiration there. Also quite a few people have worked at different companies so people know
I remember a story from Kyle Bosman of Easy Allies at this year's E3. He and Shuhei Yoshida of Sony were talking. He asked him what he was excited about. Kyle said Zelda. Shuhei said "me too!".
The fact is that people who work in games get excited about games. Yeah, there will be some business aspects of it, but I think a lot of it is friendlier than it used to be.
This is one detail I was quite sure of for a while, mainly because Square Enix mentioned that Dragon Quest XI would be coming to NX and that the home console version was being made on Unreal 4.
I actually think the message is pretty clear and was communicated very well. We just need to know more info about what the machine is capable of and what games (and other features) we can expect from it.
Aside from the games I'm wondering if there will be an overhaul of Nintendo's account system, and whether Nintendo will have a more open policy on platforms like Twitch and YouTube.
The initial message is there, but we need more info!
I think this is a bad move. The first trailer we got was great at communicating what they want it to be and what kind of "console" it is. And it appears fantastic.
But we need more details. They don't necessarily need to come all at once, but they need to be there. We have the idea and concept of the what the Switch is, but we still don't know what it can do fully. This needs to be addressed.
We also need to know some of the games that will be coming on release and in the launch window. And as for the list of third party publishers, we need to know in what capacity they are working on it. Is it just re-releases of existing titles like Skyrim? Are they new titles which will release on Switch alongside other platforms? Or are they exclusives? For example, If they announced that From Software had a new exclusive title, they'd have me by the gonads.
At six months to go before launch, if people have more information as to how things work it can inspire much more confidence. Say what you will about the Wii, but that press conference at E3 2006 was clear about so many things. We need to have some more info before the end of the year, assuming that it will actually release in March of course...
I agree with a lot of the positive sentiments all round, but I can't say I'll bite until I know what the specs are, battery life details, how everything works and the list of confirmed games.
The third party stuff sounds promising, but pretty much every console ever has always had a bunch of people saying they'll make something, only to dash off or remove exclusivity rights at the last minute. Part of my worry may be caused my traumatic memories of the Capcom Five, natch.
Just got in to see this. Firstly, the concept is brilliant. The name is also brilliant. This looks like you can play home console games on the go without any loss of quality of functionality. And it's interesting to see they're targeting people on the move, everyday gamers and the e-sports scene. All good moves.
They've nailed this first step. But we need more details. We need to know the specs, how the hardware actually works, battery life on portable aspects, online capabilities, and most importantly what games are coming to the system. This is an intriguing and potentially incredible system, but there's still more we need to know.
This is actually the best time to announce it. With VR hardware having been released, and a lot of big titles being delayed until the start of next year, it couldn't be better.
But... I have a bad feeling this is going to be brief and give us more questions than it answers.
C'mon Ninty, don't tease it out. Just tell us everything we need to know about the hardware, software, concept and then give us a solid release date and price. Otherwise this will be quite deflating.
Ninty haven't really made the New 3DS worth buying. And the naming of it is just bizarre anyway as it isn't even "new" anymore (although Chris Pranger did fill us in on why it was called that).
If all it's affecting is Miiverse and the Internet browser, I ain't about to shell out for something new. Sorry Ninty.
I thought it was a good demo overall. I pretty much treated it as an indicator of what the game was going to be like more than anything else.
One thing I love is the presentation, they're taking it further on from X/Y. Everything feels more dynamic with the way the camera works and the more realistically proportioned people make it feel a little closer to playing the anime.
I'm loving the Hawaii-inspired setting. It's a breath of fresh air and is displaying a new visual palette for the series. And the soundtrack is great so far, with a lot of instrumentation to match the new setting as well.
However, it might just be the demo, but I'm a little concerned the full game might be a little too easy. I'm not really a fan of the game pointing out which moves are effective and which ones aren't. And the picture sections felt a bit extraneous. Just give us Pokemon Snap if you want to do Pokemon photography!
And as others have said, I'm a little unsure about some of the Pokemon designs going forward.
Even so, it is what it is. A taster. And I'm looking forward to playing the full game.
If it's not a pachinko machine, Konami calls the lawyers. But then again, they wouldn't need to crowbar zombies in unnecessarily as they're already there - so there is that at least!
@Yorumi It would be seriously cool. I kind of see it as being a companion to the handheld, so there's another point of interactivity. But yeah, it's very wishful thinking!
If it ever did happen though I'd eat my socks. I'm not joking.
@Yorumi In all honesty I'd probably want something with a Dark Souls-style system, where you can play in the world and go through the game as you want, but you can also play online and have the chance to meet other players.
Well the Pokemon Sun/Moon demo goes without saying!
I'll certainly pick up some of the Castlevanias on the Wii U as well!
Also, for those who haven't played Lone Survivor, I can highly recommend it. It's a fantastic little horror game and at that price is an absolute steal!
In all honesty, this is still my favourite Castlevania. The controls feel so tight and specific that whipping and platforming feels great. Even the stairs feel alright!
I feel like it took the best aspects of the first three Castlevanias and made it work brilliantly while adding extra dashes of brilliance. And the soundtrack is sublime, especially the brooding piece of music you hear on the way to Dracula.
@-SD- I'm with you there. Although hardware considerations are important, Nintendo need to overhaul their approach to game design and third party support, and their account system so that games are easy to transfer and access digitally.
They can get the hardware right, but that's just the first step. If the games aren't there, and new design philosophies aren't there, then it'll be a shame.
Well I suppose that does happen in the original games too. He got the full Pokemon experience, except this person had an issue with simply walking into their house uninvited.
I would mention something my neck of the woods, but this IS my neck of the woods!
Does anyone know if there is anything that is more optimised for 3DS, or if there is anything different compared to the Steam release last year? If not, it feels like there's little point to it, as cool as it is.
@Utena-mobile Why would regular people get mad at the site for that? If anything, they should've been mad that Nintendo chose to shut down the damn thing.
As this goes on, Nintendo is at risk of something even worse than anger: people not caring. Especially if the reveal of the console is something underwhelming.
And that's the thing, a lot what Nintendo has been doing recently feels quite underwhelming and with a sparse line-up of games, it makes you question if they know what they're doing with the NX.
When it comes to Nintendo being aware of people's frustration, I honestly wonder if they really are. A lot of the time these days they act as if they have no clue as to what people actually think.
And that's the problem they face, with a lack of information comes a lot of doubt. And when there's a lot going on in the world of gaming, they might find that a large amount of people simply don't care, which would be the worst result of all.
For me it was Pokemon Sun and Moon & Chase: Cold Case Investigations.
There are some other cool ones like Shantae, Hollow Knight and Gurumin but they'll be available on other digital platforms that aren't tied to hardware. A lot of the others seem like pointless ports or total crud.
I remember someone asking me if I was excited for the NX, and I couldn't really give an emotion either way, positive or negative.
I can't get excited about something that we know next to nothing about, and a console with numerous rumours which contradict each other. There's just no hype to be had. It all depends on what is revealed, and how it is revealed, when Ninty finally decide to do so.
If anything, it's a case of let me know when someone does something as I don't care for any other speculation or anticipation at this point.
I remember the point where I realised my undying love for 64 wasn't just nostalgia. There was a retro exhibition in my home town.
I took a break after a couple of hours of playing and sat outside for a bit. A mother was chilling out and enjoying a coffee. She told me her son of 7 years old was enjoying himself immensely. When I asked what he liked she told me that he thought Super Mario 64 was one of the best things he'd ever seen.
Then I realised it wasn't just nostalgia, it is still a superb game and the best Mario game to this day.
And this is a large reason why I don't ever want to see a live action show. Animation has something that live action never will do, especially for this type of source material.
F*ck yes. Cing are awesome, and were such an underrated developer. It's great to see some of the team relive their previous glory. And even better, it's on my birthday too!
In a dry season for Ninty games, it's great to have this gem on the way!
I'm guessing the key point here is how the emulator works. Is there something specific about the way this works that means it goes around certain routes to get the files?
It recalls to my mind the Game Genie case with Codemasters. Nintendo tried suing them but lost because the changes to the game weren't permanent and Nintendo had devices which also altered games in a similar way. I know it's a different case but sometimes the devil is in the details.
Gotta be Mega Man 2, Mario Bros. 3 and Super C for me!
In all honesty I always felt Castlevania didn't hit its stride until number IV. Although it's difficult, a lot of design elements just seem really uneven and botched in this respect. It's a shame as there's so much to like about it in terms of visuals, soundtrack and in the level design (well the parts of levels without stairs).
