Nintendo has announced that the double pack of amiibo set to launch alongside Metroid Dread next month have unfortunately been delayed across the UK and Europe, and will no longer appear at retail on 8th October as planned.
Instead, the amiibo will now launch on 5th November. In a statement shared to social media, Nintendo apologises for the delay and cites "unforeseen shipping delays" as the reasoning behind the new, later release date.
"Due to unforeseen shipping delays, the Metroid Dread amiibo 2-pack is now scheduled to launch across the UK and Europe on November 5th. Metroid Dread will still launch for Nintendo Switch on October 8th as originally scheduled. We apologise for the delay."
Pre-orders for the amiibo are still being taken at select stores, so feel free to grab yours now if you're keen.
The game itself will still launch on 8th October as planned, alongside the Nintendo Switch OLED model.

Dang can Europe not catch a break?
"In UK And Europe"
Appearently the UK isn't part of Europe anymore
International scalpers are going to have a field day with this. Selling the amiibo to us needy Europeans.
@mariomaster96 Brexit, duh
That's unfortunate, though so many other things are being hit by shipping delays lately.
As long as the game itself launches as expected, really.
My luck! Ordered them yesterday...😑
@Kiz3000 beat me to it
@mariomaster96 they supposedly mean the European Union and not the continent Europe? 🤔
@Clarice Probably, but it still sounds funny ^^
But also I'd assume the delay also affects for example Switzerland which isn't part of the EU
@mariomaster96 that's right. Even Nintendo of Europe seperates UK from the continent Europe.
I guess people just instinctively feel the UK will always be a seperate nation hence the article and tweet. 🤓
Well my buyer on ebay is not going to be happy!!!!
...
To be fair, this won't make a massive difference to me, but Europe certainly seems to be getting the short end of the stick at the moment when it comes to Nintendo.
Hmm... i pre-ordered mine directly from Nintendo UK store and I haven't received an email from them about the delay
One thing though...please don't let this mean Switch OLED will also be delayed for UK and Europe! 😱
All those scalpers that sold preorders on eBay aren’t going to be feeling too clever now!
@dew12333 and he shouldn’t be…..this is the issue with preorders, people selling stuff they don’t have. You probably gave him the usual spiel about how you’ll ship it on release day and have already spent the profit you made.
As long as I get my special edition on launch, grumble grumble grumble...
What the hell 😭
@HamatoYoshi lol I was joking.
Although I have to be honest I am not that interested in the game, was never that impressed with the original games and only really fell in love with metroid when echoes released. So this may join the amiibo collection as a boxed item.
@dew12333 I’ll wait until the reviews are in. I’ve been a bit disheartened with gaming lately…..at 46 I wonder if I’m just finally growing out of it.
@mariomaster96 yes, but no. Since the only thing that matters for companies is the economic point of view, and UK is not in the European Union anymore, UK is not part of Europe anymore ¯(ツ)/¯
This… actually works to my advantage. Next month is going to be expensive, so the news I have one less thing to pay for, is good. I wasn’t really expecting to use it with the game all that much.
@ItsJustAnotherGamer Yeah, not a big deal in the end
Here in Mexico the amiibo that have launched in 2021 have been available mostly via pre-orders, but sometimes they might pop up after a while or have a few extra at launch for anyone who missed preorders. Right now you can still get Cat Mario, Cat Peach, Byleth and Skyward Sword Zelda. Sorry, but neither Capcom nor Nintendo bothered to release the Monster Hunter amiibo over here, and Banjo-Kazooie was available for a while after launch but now it's nowhere to be seen, Terry hasn't been available for those who made a pre-order and the Animal Crossing Sanrio cards were available without notice and vanished as quickly as they were available.
I'm hopeful the Metroid Dread duo will also be available at launch, as I missed the pre-orders due to some unforeseen emergencies that happened when they were open.
I've been actively looking for a pre-order for the amiibos ever since I saw the reveal trailer, with no luck. This news does not bode well for me here in the US.
"pre orders are still being taken"
Here in the states I think I missed the 5 second window 2 months ago that this was true.
But the energy tank and missile pack to boost the game... dang...
@HamatoYoshi That's a shame, 48 here and still play every day. I have had some stages where I haven't played so much but that probably changed pretty quick if the right game came along, maybe that's what's missing.
Don't care, just want them!! I just want to put them next to my other Metroid amiibo's. But strange that they only delayed the amiibo.....
Just contacted my local retailer since mine are in the same order as the game itself - they said that they'll split them up in two separate shipments so I can get the game on launch and not have to order the amiibos all over again.
So when I buy the amiibo I won't even be playing the game anymore...
