Re: Nintendo's Pikmin Mobile Game Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Browny

Wait... it's only been a year? Why does this feel like it's been out for more than that??

Anyway, I gave up on the experience after a couple months, since it was a battery muncher to be sure. And when all I have to do is just take a look at those rings on my Apple Watch to motivate me to move about some more, the app was redundant. Good effort, though.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Prefer 'Super Mario Odyssey 2' Or A Totally New 3D Mario?

Browny

I'm not sure what I'd want in terms of a new Mario. While more Odyssey sounds great on paper, I have this feeling Nintendo will deliver something else that will be just as good if not better.

They're not often about just giving us more of the same, so waiting to see whatever is next is better to me than another Galaxy or Odyssey.

And I get this impression the next Mario might take more inspiration from Bowser's Fury than anything else, which is okay in my book.

@Chunkboi79
For what its worth, I share almost all these opinions regarding Mana. The series is horribly inconsistent in quality, with even the darling Secret being more of a mess than anything.

My two cents: Legend is not any better, but it does have a fantastic premise and a great freeform approach to the story progression. Worth a shot at the very least.

@Fizza
It literally took my brain a minute to process your comment, because I had to remember that Quintet was also a real word with a real meaning, not just the developer's name.

And to piggyback off that, while called a loose trilogy, technically Quintet also made two additional games often included with these three, resulting in... well, you get the idea. 😂

What are the odds that a few days ago, I decided to start watching a long play on Youtube for this game, since I never got around to playing it and had too much on my plate to add it to the backlog?

I'll add this video to the "watch later" list, because this game, along with the rest of the Quintet Trilogy, deserves more love and appreciation.

@garfreek
It was more the visual novel approach. It's not my favorite kind of game, but exceptional or unique concepts usually get me to try things outside my comfort zone.

999 was that, but it was a lightning in a bottle situation for me. I believe around the time, stuff like Dangan Ronpa was big among circles I frequented, which further soured my desire to give anything else similar to 999 a chance.

Re: Tunic's Audio Designer Breaks Down The Game's Deepest Secrets

Browny

Tunic truly was a gem of a title. I got it on a Steam sale and played through it in a weekend.

Fortunately for me, I'm a musical idiot, so even reading about this made absolutely no sense to me. But the less I know about the game, even now, the better.

That mystique is the game's greatest strength.

Re: The Super Mario Bros. Movie Gets 'PG' Rating

And here I was thinking this would finally show us what happens when Mario hits a Goomba with a fireball and instead of them falling off the screen or poofing into a coin, they roast alive most gruesomely.

Shame...

Schreier does good journalism, so I'm inclined to believe his anonymous sources.

If Taylor did expect six figures plus royalties, she overplayed her hand and overestimated her value to the company. She wanted to bank on this being a bail out of whatever struggles she admits to going through in her life. And her "supposed" greed bit back.

As others have said, we'll likely never know the full story. But what we do know is thanks to the attention, Bayo3 may end up performing well above expectations. Thanks, Taylor! You might've ensured that the series gets a fourth entry.

Re: Review: No Man's Sky - Right Up There With The Very Best Switch Ports

Browny

I remember all the drama around the first release years ago. Hate to say it's tainted my perception of the game, but perhaps some day, on the cheap and when I have more time, I might give this a go.

Games like this have always interested me, but never quite enough that I wanted to jump in, so to speak. I'm glad the Switch port is solid.

Re: Random: Splatoon 3 Fans Are Getting Concerned About The Use Of QR Codes

@Bizzyb
I'm primarily a docked player, so that would involve switching to handheld, and then using my finger to draw something.

I already can't draw well, and my finger is clumsy as all heck compared to a stylus 😂

So yeah, doesn't really work for me anymore. It's fine, though. There are far more artistically inclined people out there I can enjoy.

Re: Square Enix Details New Customisation And Precision Options For Tactics Ogre: Reborn

Browny

I actually had to double back and read the line about the game being complicated.

Nothing about TO is complicated. It's on the same level as Final Fantasy Tactics, or potentially Triangle Strategy (haven't played this one to confirm). The information dump was immense, sure, but clearly it felt more geared towards those who knew the underlying systems a bit more than the newcomers.

And it was all about how the process has been streamlined where needed, and improved where possible.

Remember: this is a SRPG from 1995. The bells and whistles surrounding it might be new and appeal to modern day sensibilities, but the bones are nearly 30 years old and rock-solid.
