Re: Best Deals And Cheapest Games In The 3DS & Wii U eShop Sales

Browny

@ComfyAko
Etrian Odyssey IV, Etrian Odyssey V, and Etrian Odyssey Nexus are the 3DS exclusive games.

Technically, Untold and Untold 2 are not just "remasters" of the first two games (included in the collection), but also have new story modes with a decent chunk of new content on top (new explorable areas, albeit smaller in size and scope). If that matters to you.

Lastly, there's also Persona Q and Q2, which are Etrian games with fun Persona skins, if that's your jam. You'll get the most out of those games if you happen to be fans of both series, but can still enjoy them if you're big on either Etrian Odyssey or Persona separately.

Re: Capcom Reminds Monster Hunter Fans To Grab 3DS & Wii U Entries Before eShop Closure

Browny

Shockingly, I have all of them.

4U is where I got my true start with MH, though it was MH Tri on Wii which was my first taste of the series. 550 hours of 4U later, I needed more, so I bought 3U as I waited for Generations. Didn't play it for much, though.

And then Generations I put 200 hours into, but by then the burnout had set in. And when Generations Ultimate released for Switch, I lost my friend group overall, as they wanted to play the flashy "new hotness" that was World, and ignored the wealth of new content in GU.

sigh good times... but the hunting days are behind me now.

Re: Yuji Naka Appears To Admit Guilt Over Insider Trading Case

Browny

@HeadPirate
Makes sense, thanks for the input.

Though personally I don't think Naka will try to fight it, he might just be hoping for leniency (at least that's what it feels like to me). But I'm also unaware of the severity of punishments for this kind of crime in Japan.

Re: Video: Splatoon 3's Inkopolis Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Wii U)

Browny

@Immovablegamer6669
Put another way: for being a game with a heavy multiplayer focus, Nintendo has been glacially slow at updating the content in the game.

Examples: Splatoon 1 started with 5 stages, and six months after launch had 13 stages in rotation. Splatoon 2 started with 8 stages, and six months after launch had 15 stages.

Splatoon 3 started with 12 stages, and only now, six months later reached 16 stages.

That's 8 new stages in the first game, 7 new stages in the second game, and only 4 new stages in this game.

Again: for a game that is supposed to keep people playing, that's an anemic amount of content for six months of time. Even if you have someone who is only playing the game a few hours a week, a couple months in they'd have likely burned out of all the content it had to offer.

And one more for good measure: in six months, Splatoon had 7 splatfests. Splatoon 2 had 6 splatfests. Splatoon 3 had 5 splatfests. Just a trend of less content with each release, and as someone who genuinely enjoys the series, and has since its inception, it's a massive bummer.

So when I said "nothing to show for it", while hyperbolic, I hope now you understand where I was coming from.

Re: The Original Pokémon Trading Card Series Is Returning As A "Premium" Set

Browny

I know they'll likely fly off store shelves when they inevitably drop, but I confess to being slightly interested. Enough that if the price was right, I'd buy a set for playing with friends and family.

But if the price ends up to be ridiculous (which I fully expect) or the scalpers beat me to the punch (which I also fully expect), I'll just stick to the GBC games.

Re: Video: Splatoon 3's Inkopolis Side-By-Side Graphics Comparison (Switch & Wii U)

Browny

I'm rather disappointed with this bit of DLC; I guess the real draw is the upcoming wave of single player content, but for bringing back Inkopolis, where the series began, it's all so... hollow.

Can't even put into words what it is I would have wanted instead, because it's such a non-issue, you know? The game has been out over six months now, and we have so very little to show for it. Since I haven't played in months, have we gotten any new stages yet since Flounder Heights was added?

I really dislike being so disappointed in a game that I was genuinely hyped for. Yucky feeling.

Re: Reminder: Today Is Your Last Chance To Get Fire Emblem Fates On 3DS eShop

Browny

@Chunkboi79
Oh how I envy you for that. Sadly, in my case, while I would have been content just playing the games a bit and tossing them out as subpar, I was amongst a very volatile and vocal friend group that was easily divided and antagonistic toward each other over this game.

What's done is done, and those people are behind me, but if the discourse around it had been more civil, both in my own personal example as well as in general, I don't think it would have been as bad. But even this observation is anecdotal.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel: Golden Sun

Browny

A rare instance of using the same art on both regions, but it coming out much better for the west.

I can't wait for the game to come to NSO for a replay. It's been years since I touched Golden Sun, not since the awful DS release.

Re: Reminder: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Version Out Now (US), Will You Be Getting It?

Browny

@Sequel
I am stateside, yes.

And my own experience with Amazon has been 97% positive when it comes to gaming purchases. This one is an outlier, making me wonder if it's related to the shadow drop.

I don't need the game physically; much as I like having the physical media, I can't deny the convenience of having the majority of my library on my microSD. I just chose to buy this one physically because this past weekend I was gonna binge Theatrhythm, so I didn't mind the wait.

Re: Reminder: Metroid Prime Remastered Physical Version Out Now (US), Will You Be Getting It?

Browny

Amazon delayed my delivery until end of March.

At this point, I'm debating cancelling my order, going digital. Or double dipping, since the cost isn't so high that I'd feel bad for double dipping.

Why do I get this impression that the shadow drop was as much a shock to retailers as it was to us?

Either way, come Friday I'll buy digital. Whether or not I cancel the order is still up in the air, though.

Re: Talking Point: What Will Be Announced On Pokémon Day 2023?

Browny

I'm expecting the first couple generations on the NSO. Or I suppose I'd call it wishful thinking, at the very least.

If it does happen, I imagine it'd be R/B/Y before G/S/C, which is a bummer considering I prefer the second generation over the first.

Would be nice, though, to get Gen 2 on GB, and Gen 3 plus the Gen 1 remakes for GBA, instead. Further entice people to pay for the Expansion Pak.

Re: Editorial: Don't Worry, We'll Be Avoiding Zelda: TOTK Spoilers On Nintendo Life

Browny

@dartmonkey
I suppose my question, in response to your clarification, is why wouldn't a piece be made covering the leaked pages in depth, much like is done when Nintendo releases a new trailer? I distinctly recall such articles being posted here, filled with fun speculation and dissection.

Now the opportunity has presented itself again because of a leak, but rather than make an article covering this with the same fervor and slapping a warning label on the article, this stance is taken.

What is the difference, outside Nintendo providing the trailer officially versus a lucky chap snapping pics of every page of an official art book three months in advance?

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Octopath Traveler II

Browny

@OrtadragoonX
I would agree with this assessment.

I've played SaGa 1-3, Romancing 1, Frontier 1 and Unlimited, finished none of them, and felt a combination of relief (for quitting) and utter failure for each. Even games that would be viewed as spiritual successors (Legend of Legacy, Alliance Alive) are games I've dumped dozens of hours into, but never got invested in enough to finish.

At this point, I'd love to just watch a let's play of every game, and consider myself fulfilled. Clearly the series and I just don't gel.

And that same sentiment applies to Octopath Traveler.

Re: Editorial: Don't Worry, We'll Be Avoiding Zelda: TOTK Spoilers On Nintendo Life

Browny

I immediately found the images and looked through all of them.

Fascinating stuff.

Though I do wonder what's the point of a news website that refuses to share news because it steps on the toes of those they're reporting on. The press is not an extension of the marketing division of these publishers and developers.

As for "spoilers"... just mark an article as such? At that point, it's on the individual for clicking on it.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel: Metroid Fusion

Browny

The Japanese boxart is so much more indicative of the game as a whole.

I actually can't wait for this one to drop onto NSO. I replayed it a few years ago, in anticipation of Dread, but it's probably my favorite Metroid title for how well it controls. Dread will probably overtake it whenever I play that one a few more times.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Octopath Traveler II

Browny

To this day, it fascinates me that the original (and I suppose to an extent the sequel) got as much praise as it did.

The first game always felt like another shot at SaGa, but with a more palatable leveling system. And that SaGa flavor is why I could never get into it, personally.

Re: Splatoon 3 Reveals Brand New Special Weapon For Fresh Season 2023

Browny

I had originally hoped the Aerospray PG (the bronze one) would come with Crab Tank, but now I seriously hope it gets the Kraken super instead.

As an unashamedly lousy aerospray main, I've wanted one of the guns to get crab tank since launch, but Kraken is such a nostalgia trip I now want that instead.

Please hear me, oh Splatoon devs: let me get kraken with the PG model! Or crab tank! PLEASE

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th February (North America)

Browny

@TheBigBlue
If you check the eShop page for the Premium edition of the game, you can see the comprehensive list of DLC packs and songs coming out. Depending on your preferences, you can either spend the extra $40 to get it all, or just pick and choose a few favorites.

Theatrhythm Dragon Quest on 3DS is import friendly, provided you have hardware to run it (Japanese 3DS or a modded machine), as the game plays near identical to any other Theatrhythm game. Once upon a time you could find it on Amazon for as low at $18 (what I paid for it), but a quick search shows the price has jumped considerably ($67).

If you're a fan, I'd recommend picking it up, if only to download the DLC tracks for that game from the eShop before the closure. All of them were free, and were mostly original NES renditions of classic tracks.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th February (North America)

Browny

@TheBigBlue
It is almost exclusively Final Fantasy music in the base game. The premium edition, or buying individual DLC packs, is the only way to get music from other Square-Enix franchises, including SaGa, Mana, Nier, The World Ends With You, Chrono, etc.

However, there is no Kingdom Hearts or Dragon Quest music featured. For those, you'll need Melody of Memory (exclusively KH music) on Switch/PS4, or Theatrhythm Dragon Quest (Japan exclusive, only on 3DS).

Re: Gallery: Mario Characters' Movie Vs. Game Designs - Which Do You Prefer?

Browny

Honestly, the designs from the movie are pretty good throughout, with the exception of Donkey Kong who looks a bit... weird? I don't know how to put it. He just looks weird.

Mario and Luigi are fine. Peach looks a bit cuter than her game counterpart. Toad is also a tiny bit off, but not to the extent Donkey Kong is to me.

I do like the Piranha Plant in the film, looks a lot more menacing and deadly.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Version 1.3.0 Is Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Browny

What I cannot wait for is the final batch of the DLC. Once that drops, I'll return to the game for a fresh new run.

The base game was a phenomenal experience, and my GOTY 2022. But I want to see how well it holds up on a second run, since I can replay the first Xenoblade without any issues. And this run will have the new heroes and content, so I'm excited for a familiar but also kinda-new experience!

I just hope we don't have to wait until the literal end of 2023...

Re: Feature: 19 Game Boy Games We'd Love To See On Nintendo Switch Online

Browny

Mad props to Kate for putting in the GBC Harry Potter games. I only ever got to play the first one, but being a super simple yet engrossing RPG made it a treat to own and play. I'd like the chance to play the second one, but I suppose there are OTHER ways to play it...

My pick that's not listed: Lufia The Legend Returns.

Re: Feature: Samus' Suits, Ranked - Every Metroid Box Art Suit Design, From Worst To Best

Browny

Personally, the Super Metroid suit is the one I'd rank highest, though my personal favorite is the Fusion suit.

I absolutely love how alien the Fusion suit looked, fitting in perfectly with the theme of the game, at how Samus had been changed from her run-in with the X parasites.

Also, for those who never noticed: did you know that prior to Fusion, Samus had to place her left hand on top of her arm cannon, as if to hold back the sheer power that she commanded?

But if you paid real close attention to the sprites for Fusion, she instead had to use her left hand to prop up the arm cannon, showing that following her transformation, she was left severely weakened. It can also be noted in her prominent slouch in that game!
