Re: Switch's Game Boy Library Doesn't Have A Set Schedule, According To Nintendo

Browny

I'm not expecting a ton of releases in a short window, to be honest. But as long as we get what was previewed in a timely fashion (even if said fashion is one game a month), I'll be content. The NSO library is more nostalgic filler content between major releases for me anyway.

Just yesterday I sat through the entirety of Minish Cap in a single go. Because I had only ever played the game once at launch, and didn't remember it being so darn short? Kinda disappointing, really.

But I'm hoping we get the Oracle games next for the GB library, because I'd love to revisit those two.

Re: Pikmin 4 Sprouts July Release Date In New Trailer

Browny

@Octane
Outside Nintendo curating the experience too heavily, why restrict it? It's a real time strategy game. Let the player be the one to judge what kinds of Pikmin are needed in the field for any given scenario.

But I suppose time will tell. The boxart shows all Pikmin types with the exception of Rock, which is sad for Rock Pikmin to be fair. But they were always the less cool Purple anyway.

Re: Pikmin 4 Sprouts July Release Date In New Trailer

Browny

@Travisemo007
Pikmin 3 removed Purple and White Pikmin from the main campaign. I think they were in some side content (IIRC?) but in the main campaign, you got the pink and rock Pikmin instead.

From the promotional material for this one, I see all the types including the new ice, so I'm hoping ALL types are included in the main scenario.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2023 Nintendo Direct?

Browny

I got the Etrian Odyssey Collection. I was happiest about this, as it is tied for my favorite series of all time.

I wish it had been based on the superior Untold remakes, but I'm still happy.

Metroid Prime Remaster is great, and Pikmin 4 with a release date was phenomenal. Oh, and FINALLY Advance Wars.

It was a good time, good games.

Somewhere, there's a blue monster muppet crying into a pillow out of happiness...

I'm looking forward to this one, as a huge Pikmin fan since the original's launch. The return of Purple and White Pikmin makes me happy, as their exclusion in Pikmin 3 was so sad. Ice Pikmin is also cool.

Re: The Best Endings In Games On Nintendo Switch

Browny

Link's Awakening, on top of being my favorite Zelda game and among my Top 5 games of all time, remains one of the most bittersweet endings. Also because I adore Marin and the subtle romance hinted at between her and Link. Best pairing for Link, fight me.

Aside from that, because it's now on Switch: Final Fantasy IX, which still makes me cry every time I reach those credits.

Re: Detective Pikachu's Second Movie Is Apparently Still "In Active Development"

Browny

The first film wasn't the greatest thing, narratively speaking. But I can't deny it was cool to see Pokemon in "live action". All of that, plus the world itself, were really well done.

I'd like to see a lot more of that world, but given that it's been nearly four years, I worry that any kind of sequel might not live up. But I do appreciate the first film for what it was.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Xbox Reportedly Skipping E3 2023

@Almighty-Koz
I know and understand the history of the expo, but if they hope to survive at this point they need to rethink their image and purpose, which is a tall order, I feel.

Having spent the majority of my life looking forward to this event, it's a bit of a downer knowing it won't ever be the same. But that's just the way the world works; everything changes, little remains the same...

Re: The Pokémon Company Reveals Plans To "Sunset" Pokémon TCG Online

Browny

I misread the title as though the TCG was coming to an end, period. 😂

I recently bought a pack of cards for the son of a coworker, and was blown away by the inflated numbers on the cards. Coming from the Base Set days, and not having touched the TCG since 2000 or so, I felt so lost.

And this is why I'll stick to the old GBC games to get my TCG fix.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Need Another Pokémon Mystery Dungeon On Switch?

Browny

@JohnnyMind
That wasn't the only Pokemon version I tried. I played the original GBA releases as well (which I believe were the ones remade for Switch?) and still no dice. Mystery Dungeon just doesn't appeal to me, despite all the pros it's got going for it. And if the Etrian flavor didn't grab me (with Etrian Odyssey being among my favorite game series ever-- see my profile tag stating I'm an SQ fan), then it is what it is.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Need Another Pokémon Mystery Dungeon On Switch?

Browny

As someone who's tried several different flavors of Mystery Dungeon, from Shiren to Pokemon to Etrian Odyssey, the style of game just never quite clicked with me.

It's an interesting concept, but has always had this awkward flow to it and I could never quite nail down. But I commend the effort on the part of developers to add their own flavor to it with their respective series. It reminds me a lot of Musou games, and how each feels uniquely tailored to the partner franchise, from Zelda to Dragon Quest to Fire Emblem.

As for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon... I got Super Mystery Dungeon on 3DS many years ago. I played it for 10 minutes and never went back. I don't think we need another one for a long time, if ever, but I'm clearly not the target demographic for the series.

Re: Review: GoldenEye 007 - Aged And Flawed, But Still A Masterpiece Of Game Design

Browny

I actually tried playing it for a bit last night, and I couldn't beat the first mission (on 00 Agent). The control scheme was seriously throwing me for a loop, and try as I might, I couldn't get into enough of a groove for it to work.

Either I need to get the N64 controller for this one game, or I should try some of the controller profile changes mentioned online to make it feel better. We shall see, but it was a heck of a nostalgia rush!

Re: Feature: Best Japan-Exclusive 3DS Games - 13 Titles We Wish Had Come To The West

Browny

As someone who played them, I am sad that DQ11 and Theatrhythm DQ did not make it to the west.

Fortunately, almost everything that made the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI unique and awesome was included with the enhanced version on Switch... with one notable exception: the Tockles quest. Which was weird, because it was a fun little diversion, and they brought over everything else. They even left the entrance to the quest in the game, but cut the whole thing out. So weird.

As for Theatrhythm, I'm pretty sure it can be found for a decent price online, even through Amazon? Being a rhythm game, even if you know nothing of Japanese, it can be enjoyed almost effortlessly. It's just like the other Theatrhythm games, only with a much smaller music library. But if you're a big fan of the series music, it's worth a look.

Re: Vanillaware President Really Wants A 'Muramasa' Port But Admits "There Are Problems"

Browny

That's a shame. Of all their games, this is the one I'd most like ported.

I played the original on Wii, but never finished it. And then when the Vita version released, I tried it, but never got past the first hour since I didn't own a Vita.

I hope they're able to squeeze in a port at some point in the future. Be a shame to leave the game trapped on that sad existence of a handheld.

Re: Random: Did You Know That Pokémon's HM 'Cut' Could Be Used On Tall Grass?

Browny

I did not know this was thing, to be honest. Just felt like one of those things that, now as an adult, would be a pointless mechanic to be implemented by a lazy developer like GF.

But as a kid? Never considered it because I think the description of the move mentioned cutting down trees, not grass. Guess I was a lot less imaginative than I thought as a kid.
