Re: The State Of The Switch eShop Is "Heartbreaking" Says No More Robots Boss

The only thing worse that the Steam store is the Nintendo store.

Yes, people like us have our own ways of discovering good games, and we'll always use them. But that ignores the plight of the majority of players whose gaming hobby is restricted just to the gaming device — people who don't daily check the news for interesting releases, and who don't have an awareness of quality Indie devs.

And that ignores the plight of the quality Indie devs who need to make their work discoverable amongst the dreck without the huge marketing budgets that AAA publishers have.

And that ultimately hurts Nintendo, because if people can't find good games that aren't the handful of good high-budget games, they'll see the Switch as just another source of cheap junky games.

What has always made Nintendo stand out in the marketplace is its focus on "kaizen" quality. That's getting seriously diluted now and they urgently need to do something about it.

Re: Poll: No, Really, What Was Nintendo's Worst Year?

Ridiculous. 2020 has been a jackpot year for Nintendo. The third year of a console release and they still can't make enough consoles for the demand. Animal Crossing is the defining pop culture icon of the lockdown. Sony and MS are winding up their console generations so the only games people care about are Nintendo ones. Whatever you think, Nintendo are laughing.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Prepared To Spend $70 On The Latest Games?

@NEStalgia Oh absolutely, the millennials really got screwed. Any Boomer or Xer who can't see that seriously lacks the ability to look outside of themselves.

I wonder if that screwedness is what's keeping the high end games industry going? As a late Xer, it was possible for me to get a deposit together for a house in a nice city just before the economy tanked permanently in 08. I only did it by cutting out spending on games and other luxuries pretty much completely. For folks without the prospect of owning real estate, why not blow $60 on a game when you have it to spare?

But now that the millennials' screwedness has reached new depths of crappiness, will the AAA games industry be next one to be "destroyed by millennials"? It might take a few years — and maybe there'd be some justice in it.

@NEStalgia you might be onto something there! Yes, here in the UK wealth is a strong indicator of whether you play video games.

Consoles and games are expensive and we don't have an Obama-legacy economy - we were still in post-recession from 2008 when Coronavirus hit.

And yes, rich Brits can be pretty unbearable. Sorry. We have institutional classism.
