Why is everyone flailing about as if there haven't been non-pokemon cute catchathons before? Look at Temtem. Look at WoFF Maxima.

Why is everyone champing for Nintendo to sue over this? Did we want somebody sued when Rogue Legacy improved on Rogue? Did we want somebody sued when Hades improved on Rogue Legacy?

Is Pokemon S&V really so good that we want to go to the wall defending its creators?

Pokemon could just throw us a few quality-of-life bones and it would make a huge difference. They could cut the menus down by half just by asking a UI expert. They could borrow the streamlined catching mechanic from Legends Arceus. They could improve inventory sorting. They could represent combat information graphically rather than having us click through endless dialogs. "It's super effective!" Yes I know.

There are hundreds and hundreds of pokemon designs, most of which use the standard rules of cute. There's a pokemon of almost any animal you can think of. Draw a cartoon animal: It's going to look like a pokemon.

And the fact that the physical release clearly won't have the whole game on it is another good reason.

Clearly WB and their ilk are keen to kill off physical releases.

The Japanese picture box is clearly beating the Western design, but the tragedy of First-Past-The-Post is playing out as the Western one is beating the split-vote Japanese one.

@CharlieGirl I can only assume there are a lot of people voting NA out of patriotism. It really is terrible. Those two shades of black are a crime, the illustration is boring and the "WOW"s all over the place are very distracting.

Easy win for Japan. NA box is cluttered with gumpf and "Illusion of Time" is a much worse title. There's a lot to look at on the Japanese box, but it's all interesting and nothing jars.

@CharlieGirl I agree. Nintendo have hundreds of classic binaries sitting around. They don't even need to go to dodgy rom sites to get them. If they were serious about their claims that they want to make these online services good value, they would be uploading them by the shovel-load.

@Cheez Buying a super popular game on cartridge at release is often cheaper. Sucks, but that's capitalism I guess. In a world where value and price were equivalent, things would be different.

Pokemon is over for me. It's been going downhill since X and Y but the latest game is too terrible, and the new anime, without Jessie and James, looks sooo bland. I'm out. It's been a good run but I'm out.

The stupid shoulder balls on Samus' suit are slightly covered up with the weird target thing on the Japanese release, so that's a win.
