Re: Random: Directors And Producers - What's The Difference? Sakurai Explains

BlublacMH

I teach a video games class and we've talked about directors vs. producers so I'm glad to see I was pretty right about the difference(s) 😅. I will say tho that despite Zelda being my favorite game franchise I don't think I ever realized that Aonuma had moved to a producer role and was no longer director of the games. Now I feel extra bad that he gets the blame for design decisions that were likely made by Fujibayashi.

Re: Talking Point: 'Remake' Vs. 'Remaster' - What's Your Definition?

BlublacMH

For me, there's ports, remasters, and remakes. Ports are when games are just moved from one console to another, sometimes with a few changes (aka an enhanced port), remasters are when the changes are largely (or only) visual, and remakes are when substantial changes are made to the core game. To demonstrate, Super Mario 64 on VC and NSO are ports, Super Mario 64 in Mario All-Stars is a remaster, and Super Mario 64 DS is a remake.

Re: Poll: Are You Bothered By The Frame Rate For Paper Mario: TTYD On Switch?

BlublacMH

My general stance on framerates is stability over everything. I'll take a stable 30 over shooting for 60 that fluctuates between 33 and 57. I'm even less pressed about framerates in a game like this where unless you're living and dying by the superguard you'll be fine. I do wonder why it was lowered, but I'm not upset by it being lowered.

Re: As Switch Approaches The PS2's Lifetime Sales, Sony Moves The Goalposts

BlublacMH

Even if somehow the Switch doesn't dethrone the PS2, it has gotten this close 1) in half the time 2) without doubling as a media player and 3) on the heels of, let's face it, a colossal failure rather than a massive success like the PS1 to PS2. That is an impressive achievement in and of itself.

That said, I do think the Switch will surpass the PS2 regardless of these "updated numbers". All it will take is the OG Switch family finally getting price drops with the Switch 2's announcement/release.

Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure

BlublacMH

Aonuma is exposing the absurdity of the "Zelda cycle" and I appreciate that. Everyone here says they want a more restricted, structured experience but I'm willing to bet that when Skyward Sword gave them just that they hated it. Zelda MUST continue to grow as a series and the "open-air" era has given the series unprecedented growth.

And that's not to say the games are perfect now. There's still space for growth and TotK shows that the team does try to listen to feedback (that's not just "make the old games again) so I have full faith they'll keep working until the games reach that sweet spot of both styles.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?

BlublacMH

@Vexx234 @GalaxicGlobe It's so weird to me when people say "oh the voices are SO much better in Japanese!" but they're holding onto those subtitles for dear life. I believe they only think it's better in Japanese bc they are imagining the lines being delivered how they personally would want them delivered, rather than if they listened in English and they have to take what the actor actually presents to them.

Re: Talking Point: What's Next For The Super Smash Bros. Series?

BlublacMH

I fully expect Smash to be rebooted with the next iteration. While a port of Ultimate with a few tweaks and all characters already in-game sounds nice, I feel like that would mean renegotiating rights and part of the reason people are concerned about the future of the series is because of the mess of rights issues it has to be. I say reboot with a massively trimmed down roster and all characters reworked from the ground up. And though I know it won't happen, give us another substantial single player mode.

Re: Best Mario RPGs Of All Time

BlublacMH

Umm...why is the OG SMRPG (so much!) higher than the remake? I didn't finish the OG but the remake seems to have improved pretty much everything from what I've seen of both.

Anyway, I knew TTYD would be the top but the OG Paper Mario will always be my favorite.

Re: Soapbox: Can You Really 'Spoil' A Mario Game?

BlublacMH

@AstroTheGamosian This is just false. Even just looking at the most recent Zelda, Metroid, Pokémon, and Kirby games there are absolutely story AND gameplay things that could be spoiled. There's technically gameplay things in Mario to be spoiled too. As far as gameplay, yes the general idea is in trailers but each one of those games throw in something to switch the core gameplay up at some point.

Re: Soapbox: Can You Really 'Spoil' A Mario Game?

BlublacMH

You absolutely can spoil a Mario game. I will admit I'm very spoiler-averse (I regularly mute key words for movies and games I'm looking forward to on all platforms) but I think even people not like me would want some surprises in what they play. A particular boss fight in Odyssey and what happens after the final boss (both immediately and post game) come to mind as far as stuff that shouldn't be spoiled.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The Nintendo Direct, Then?

BlublacMH

A good Direct in my book is one where I walk away wanting at least 3 of the new games shown. I want 4.

I also wanna say everyone mad that the DK game isn't what the leaks led you to think should be mad at themselves for putting that much faith in leaks and rumors.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Sea Of Stars

BlublacMH

There needs to be a middle ground between the two. The Japanese art is too busy and the western art is too empty. The western art is an easier fix (you could just add Garl to some of the empty space) so I pick that one.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Is Targeting A 2024 Release For The Switch Successor

BlublacMH

Even though I do think we'll be getting a new Switch next year, its not because of any of these rumors; we've been hearing them since at least 2020. It just feels like time, you know? TotK and a 2D Mario feel like the last cards this Switch can play, so I'll be waiting on the official announcement to see what it looks like
