Re: Review: Raiden IV x Mikado Remix - Another Astoundingly Good Shmup For Switch

BlubberWhale

@Prizm Yeah I guess it probably does wear off. Years ago I played that free game, Guxt on PC and beat it. One of the more satisfying little game experiences I’ve had. Admittedly I haven’t been able to get that same level of satisfaction from other shmups (Last Resort was pretty close), but I like to think it’s just because that game was so pure, and I’m choosing the wrong games. I’ll get to some of the gems eventually! Hopefully it hasn’t just worn off for me... I think a really challenging, but fair shmup will always appeal to me.

(I need to get a big ol rotating stand for my TV, but, you know, priorities.)

Re: Review: Raiden IV x Mikado Remix - Another Astoundingly Good Shmup For Switch

BlubberWhale

@Prizm I’m thinking about just setting up a monitor or small TV on its side, and having a lil shmup corner in my house. I don’t think too much effort would be required, and what is would be worth it for such a sweet genre.

EDIT: I just wanted to get you thinking about the possibilities. Sounds like you’re giving up too easily. Come back to us! You’re one of us! 😄

Re: Hardware Review: PowerA Fusion Pro - A Customisable Pro Controller Rival With A Steep Price

BlubberWhale

So no ability to invert right analog stick or anything like that? I was excited for a moment, but looks like 8bitDo is the only one doing that. (Am I wrong??) SN30 Pro would be a good option, and I actually bought it, but I don’t love the stick placement... intact I bought it to play Luigi’s Mansion 3 (and other games with no inverting options), and I still don’t want to do it with that controller...

Re: The Cotton Reboot For Switch Arrives In The West Next Month

BlubberWhale

@JasmineDragon Yeah, that’s cool. While I don’t prefer it, I can see that. Could probably keep your interest longer after beating that sort of game the first time.

I guess it depends on the overall quality of the game vs its price, more so than how the levels are generated, to really decide on a games value or whatever. 👍

Re: OLED Display Firm Mentions 'Switch Pro' During Its Q1 Investors Call

BlubberWhale

I will still be “surprised” by the inevitable hardware announcement. These rumors (and industry commentary) won’t stop that.

Of course Nintendo will eventually release improved hardware. Speculation on the Switch 2 or Pro may as well have begun before the Switch’s launch. We’re in the same boat now as then... just a lot more people saying “yep, it’s closer now than before.”

Don’t know if I’m getting my point across at all, but I just wanna say, fellow fans, you don’t have to roll your eyes and say “we knew this already” when Nintendo announces new hardware. Just enjoy it. On some level it will still be a surprise, even though people have been making easy predictions on this for years.

Re: The Cotton Reboot For Switch Arrives In The West Next Month

BlubberWhale

@JasmineDragon I respect your opinions, but I wouldn’t recommend procedurally generated levels, especially to new players. Maybe just me, but part of the fun of shmups is encountering a seemingly impossible level or enemy pattern, doing it a few times to learn it and feeling like a b***a** after sailing through unscathed.

Idk, maybe I’m just biased against that sort of thing. I think a human made level will always be more interesting than a what the game gives you.

Re: Rumour: Sonic Colors Remaster Listed In Localisation Company's Credits

BlubberWhale

Can someone tell me what the best 3D Sonic game that I can play on a Nintendo console is? (Have all the consoles hooked up except that redheaded stepchild, the Wii U, so none on that console please lol.)

Always thought Sonic was a cool character, and played around a bit with the first couple games on Genesis, but not really a true fan.

Bought Secret Rings in the Wii Era... not fun. I need help so I don’t end up with another turd like that one lol.

Re: Feature: Zelda: Twilight Princess' Flipped World On Wii Made Me Go A Little Cucco

BlubberWhale

You and I, dear author, had a similar experience. We both bought shiny new Wii consoles at or around launch, and we both bought the Wii version of Twilight Princess. We also both let the knowledge of a flipped world nag at us. The difference between us was that it only took me about 10 minutes (maybe 30) to realize I made a mistake that absolutely needed correcting. I had the GameCube version within the week, and what a relief it was. (That sweet, sweet camera control, and the harmony of non-flipped art assets... bliss.)

I don’t hold your mistake against you. I was probably older and more able to make those hard choices. That fact that you’ve taken the manly route to acknowledge your sin (ha) in this piece, this many years later, clearly shows your regret and pain, and I strongly empathize.

Here’s hoping we all get to play the correct version again soon on Switch... and that the wounds of the past may heal. 😊

Re: Legend Of Mana's Physical Switch Release Will Include English Language Support

BlubberWhale

@tonyp1987 Not. A bad. Ideeeaaa... 🤔 Thanks

EDIT:
@Prizm Are you me? Ha, I just agree with pretty all of that. Don’t know much about it, and honestly just haven’t been thinking about these types of games, but yes, I guess I have been meaning to play Earthbound on my SNES classic, and I’m sure Chrono Trigger is great too though I don’t really have plans to play it. Perhaps Mana though, especially the more action oriented games, but maybe this remaster as well.

EDIT 2:
@Daniel36 Whoops, missed your comment. Thank you, that does help me imagine how the game works a little bit better. And an odd charm is exactly why I may give it a shot. Just something so completely different than my usual platformers, action, and arcade games... could be a nice breath of vaguely nostalgic fresh air... while being a totally new experience.

Re: Legend Of Mana's Physical Switch Release Will Include English Language Support

BlubberWhale

@tonyp1987 Would be amazing if Switch cards worked on the next gen system...

And man, that box art, and in-game art in general... I don’t even like JRPGs, but I’m really wanting to want this now! (Maybe I’ll try it. To be fair I‘ve never really given a turn based rpg a fair shake... this one seems relatively accessible, but man I just don’t care about all the stats and crap... ugh, maybe I’ll learn to like it.)

Re: Wonder Boy: Asha In Monster World Gets A Shiny New Trailer

BlubberWhale

@Wavey84
@Slowdive Same. I thought the animations looked pretty nice. Or nice enough for what it is anyway. (I generally prefer the original pixel art in these remakes though... however in this case I actually like what they’ve done well enough to enjoy both versions.)

I almost hope you can’t do original graphics just because this is one of four games I bought for the Wii just before it’s shop closed heh. I want a reason to play that on my Wii! Lol

EDIT: Oh wait, I didn’t read the last bit! You have to buy physical to get the original version... hmm, wonder if it’s widescreen or anything... probably not. Not sure if I should go physical or not now... 😋

Re: Tencent Has Patented Its Own Handheld Console, And It Looks A Lot Like A Nintendo Switch

BlubberWhale

@Jokerwolf You’ll change your tune if you ever work hard for years to design an original hit product. Of course most of us will not experience that, so it’s easy to judge those who try to protect their IPs.

Edit: I’m not even saying this is the worst case of stealing someone’s IP, but I WILL say it seems a little dirty given how they were in business with Nintendo. Legal or not, it feels like a slap in the face. But... I don’t actually care that much. It’s China, so of course... 😒

Re: Sony And RTS Jointly Acquire Fighting Game Tournament EVO, Nintendo Responds

BlubberWhale

@TheLightSpirit I hear hear you, and trust me, that kind of behavior is strange and... just gross to me. But I think this can be applied to gamers in general, not so much “the smash community.” In my experience the smash players are more chill and accepting than any other game community. I mean try playing StarCraft, one of my favorite games, and you’ll get like way more elitist than in a smash local.

Idk, you’re ok with your opinion, I can’t invalidate it or anything, I’m just a bit bewildered over the recent bandwagon effort to smear the smash scene. What’s being said doesn’t quite match up to what I’ve seen over the last 20 years. But I don’t pay attention to Ultimate, and I recently saw a YouTube doc about some of the creepy actors in that seen that I didn’t know about... so there’s that... but I mean there millions of people that play smash so... idk, hard to generalize.

K this was written quickly, but basically... I’ll accept what you have to say. Have a good day!

Re: Talking Point: The Problem With The X Button

BlubberWhale

Thanks for bringing this up. This needs addressing. People need to either all conform to the original standard (to please me), or make remapping a lot more... doable.

(Though Nintendo probably is benefiting from the confusion, as it’s fans have nowhere else to go lol.)

Edit: As others have mentioned, Sony just needs to fix their system and we can have harmony. Xbox... well, there’s no hope for them. 😅 (sadly)
