Update: Potentially lending some more weight to the rumour, French retailer Sogamely has "SONIC COLORS ULTIMATE - LIMITED EDITION SWITCH" listed for 34,99€, with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One product pages also live (thanks, Nintendo Everything). It's not clear if this listing went live before or after the game was spotted in IKSample's list of credits.
Original Story (Fri 9th Apr, 2021 18:55 BST): German production company IKSample has a long a storied history providing localisation services across the mediums of film, television and video games (as you can see for yourself by perusing the credits on the company's website). However, one or two very interesting video game projects appear on its projects page, and an eagle-eyed individual has spotted a remaster of none other than Sonic Colors just sitting there on the internet.
As highlighted by @OnTheDownLoTho in the tweet below, there it is listed in the company's 2020 credits section, just there for all to see:
Looking around the rest of the website, you'll also spot some rather confusingly-named games — potentially just project code names if the 'U-King – Zelda' from 2017 is anything to go by (which was supposedly Breath of the Wild's development name). Alan Wake, rumoured to be returning in Remedy's next game, gets a mention along with Final Fantasy IV.
Further investigation might cause you to run for the salt and grab yourself a pinch — you'll find the game mentioned again on the company's About page, although it has key art from Sonic Boom rather than Colors. At this point it's impossible to tell if this is simply a random mistake or if someone's let something slip. Still, of all the 3D Sonics from the past twenty years, Sonic Colors (or Colours, if you prefer) is up there with the best of them.
Would you be interested in seeing a Sonic Colors Remaster? Let us know your thoughts on this rumour below.

@Beatrice Sonic Colours is one of the better Sonic games, came out in Wii but you didn't need motion controls. Fun game.
Yes the best 3d
sanic game
I'd be up for a remaster of Sonic Colours.
@Beatrice
It's a somewhat divisive game when looking back at it, but it was the game that the Sonic series needed at the time to get back on track.
It had a focus on making what would normally be side content part of the main campaign, with 6 acts per zone but only 2 acts actually being meaty.
The level of content is actually somewhat comparable to Sonic Forces, but sticks to its guns with just the two types of gameplay with a single character.
It has been a Wii exclusive all this time though so it would be nice to see it finally reach other platforms. It has no motion controls despite being a Wii title, it supported a wide range of controllers for traditional control schemes.
@Beatrice One of the only good ones tbh
I hope for Sonic Colors, I've seen gameplay in 1080p, and since both Galaxy and Skyward Sword are on the switch, I would want to see this!
This is what some say as the best looking Wii game.
But for real, if this got a Switch port, I'm stoked!
Never played the original so I would be interested.
If this becomes ANOTHER limited edition, just like Super Mario All Stars 2 then I swear..
@Beatrice The general consensus has been this was the best of the 3D Sonics. That changed a bit in the community once Sonic Generations released though. Then there was an ongoing argument on which was better.
THIS GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD
PLEASE BE REAL
@NintendoCopium 2D*
Sonic Colours would look pretty nice if they ported it to the Hedgehog Engine 2. Could do the same with Generations while they're at it.
Though I have to say while I like this game, it's a bit of a downgrade after the leak that the Adventure games had full remakes in development that got cancelled in 2015. Hopefully they picked that project back up too.
I got excited when I read Final Fantasy IV...but then saw it was supposed to XIV.
@NintendoCopium “3D” I wouldn’t call it that
I really enjoyed this game back in the day. It ignored the convoluted gimmicks and arduous narratives of recent 3D entries and doubled down on the core boost formula gameplay that everyone enjoyed in Unleashed’s daytime stages and the wisps as power-ups worked well as they acted as extensions to Sonic’s existing abilities and had stages effectively designed around them, but weren’t mandatory and levels were still fun to complete if you didn’t feel like using them. Incredible level theme variety as well with Dr. Eggman’s Incredible Interstellar Amusement Park being the setting in space.
Not to mention a stellar (no pun intended) orchestrated soundtrack and fantastic visuals for a Wii game. While it was quite short and some of the writing was aimed moreso at children than you would expect, there were enough incentives to replay the stages with unlockable multiplayer stages (you could also play alone), optional collectables in each level that provided access to an awesome reward and best times for speedrunning, and the plot is decent overall and perfectly tolerable and charming enough to see the game through to the end from a story perspective.
I’d love to see this game be appreciated more today and become more widely available with remastered presentation to boot; it wouldn’t be that hard as it holds up well today ten years later and is importantly fun most of all. Now Generations is a game I’m desperate to see on Switch: it wouldn’t even have to be remastered, it’s just so good and it bugs me that the only version that exists on Nintendo platforms is the poor 3DS game.
Nice. Recently beat this on the 3ds. Would have been a great game on the Saturn.
Would love a remake/remaster of this, sonic generations and sonic & all stars racing (transformed)
Now port Sonic Adventures Double Pack to shut up the whiners.
All Sonics, all Switch, can't have the curse cycle when everything is out.
@mattesdude yeah, same — although there are meant be a slew of Square Enix remakes announced pretty soon; I'd imagine that IV/V/VI will be getting a modern port of some kind (hopefully not from the mobile versions)
I never played this since I didn't own a Wii, but honestly, would still prefer a good, new Sonic.
uhu!..one more expensive old game...
i'm shocked that this hasn't happen sooner.
i would love to see more Sonic Games come to steam and other platforms as well.
I hope so, Colours is sadly locked behind old Nintendo hardware and locked behind old Nintendo hardware is the second worst outcome (the worst outcome being locked behind old Sony hardware).
Ooo I liked that one, a gem in a sea of refuse. I'm down for a remaster.
😂 IKsample’s website is down for maintenance.
@Beatrice I know there's several answers to your question but I wanted to offer my perception of it.
From what I recall, it was seen as of the best 3D Sonic games post-Sonic '06.
Now that a decade or so has passed, it's game design has been reevaluated for the worse. Criticisms towards its level design and the Wisps are among them. Sonic Generations definitely reinforced some of these arguments for others.
The main aspect that most agree on was that the story was rather poor. It tried to dial back prior complaints of the franchise taking itself too seriously by going for a simple light-hearted plot with an abundance of comical moments.
People believe this part of the game aged the worse out of all other aspects of the game. They also note that this set the standards for future Sonic stories which resulted in blunders like Sonic Lost World so people also complain of its lasting legacy as well.
It's funny, but I actually looked this game up on Wikipedia earlier to see if there was ever a PC port as I'd like to play it again but would prefer a higher resolution than the Wii version (Generations on PC plays great in 4k/60fps). After seeing there wasn't I decided to play it on the Wii U... Maybe I'll wait and see how this pans out before starting it.
It’s the Sonic game I most expect to get a remaster. Or at least ported to current gen systems. Even if this is just a mistake, I can 100% see Colors returning in some form in the near future.
Never played Sonic Colors but I heard good things so I'd welcome a nice remaster with better resolution, visuals, fps, etc.
Meh, Colors was okay, but it was too bogged down with slow platforming sections and puzzles. Not sure I want to replay it, remaster the 360/PS3 version of Unleashed and Generations and put those on Switch and then we'll talk, those two games are the gold standard for Modern Sonic.
Sonic Colors was simply fine, but I’d rather have a new Sonic game.
Best 3d sonic since sonic adventure.
It's a good game but I doubt the German listing is legit. For all we know it could very well just be a wishlist.
@Bolt_Strike Was Unleashed the one where Sonic was a werewolf?
rather have adventure remakes but whatever lol
Now Yall know I'm going to die.
PLEASE be real! Colors was my very first Sonic game
@Gamer_Griff Yes. Frankly, I thought the Werehog gameplay was fun, just not fitting in a Sonic game. Meanwhile the Day levels are peak Modern Sonic. Then Generations took the fantastic Day gameplay of Unleashed and paired them with a much more fitting gameplay style in Classic Sonic's gameplay. So yeah, those are the two Sonic games I want to see the most.
So Sonic Colors Ultimate for Switch, PS4 and Xbox One has been listed by a French retailer too. @dartmonkey

Oh please be true. 3D Sonic games are always so hit or miss but this is one of the really good titles. I’ve been hoping this would get remastered in HD, either on PC or console.
Sega, rerelease Colors and maybe even Unleashed, then make another title just like them and Generations but add Chao. That’s all we need.
What is a remaster again? Is it just an HD-port of an old game, like Twilight Princess was for the Wii U or is it a remake like the Crash and Spyro Trilogy?
I would be excited for this as I've never played Colors, but I've also never played the console version of Generations. Here's hoping that game also makes it over to Switch.
It's too bad that Sonic Boom is dead. I thought Fire & Ice was actually pretty good. If they released a follow up to that game with the same 2D focused gameplay, I'd be all over it.
You can tell you're a Canauck or a Brit when you write "Colours"
Yes! I would LOVE a remaster of Sonic Colors! It's the first Sonic game I ever played, and to this day, it's still my favorite Sonic game of all-time, up there with Sonic 3 and Knuckles and Sonic Generations!!!
They chose the right modern game to remake.
@m-wasi how? there are plenty more regions/countries that spell it the traditional way. So assuming it’s a Brit or Canauck is a bit daft. Could be an Australian for example. It would actually be more accurate to say “you can tell you’re a yank when you write colors”. At least when reading English on the internet.
Can’t wait for this remaster anyway. Will look great on the PS4 and is a solid platformer
I dislike this one for being essentially a low effort game that everyone seems to like.
You can finish it in less than an hour and gameplay is largely composed of floating platforms and 2D sections.
It's funny because 06 is supposed to be the unfinished game, but Colors is missing that Super Sonic boss fight, practically all of the cast, and the actual 3D gameplay.
This game has a level that's just bouncing to the right of the screen collecting rings for 10 seconds. Gross.
@RareFan What is a remaster again? Is it just an HD-port of an old game, like Twilight Princess was for the Wii U or is it a remake like the Crash and Spyro Trilogy?
Basically an HD remastered is them taking an old game that is not HD yet and render every pixels to high def. If it's a lazy remastered then better graphics is all you get from the remastered port but if it's a worthwhile remastered then you get that plus more contents, better soundtrack, smooth performance, true wide screen support, up-to-date controller support, online play, and various other features. Lazy remastered are games like Star Wars Episode 1: Racer and GTA Vice City HD and worthwhile remastered are games like Doom 64 and Wind Waker HD.
I rented this from redbox once and enjoyed it
Oddly enough just started another play through of Mania after obtaining a physical copy 😅 wouldn’t mind this, Generations and Lost World being brought to Switch over time
Probably the most underrated of the Sonic games in recent years IMO. Loved the Wii and the DS versions. One of my fav Wii games and I may well have played a couple of hundred or more.
Sonic wii trilogy and generations please...(missed out on the wii trilogy and generations was pretty great)
@PikaPhantom
That's a short childhood!
@mattesdude Final Fantasy XIV was announced for Switch (or NX at the time) when they also announced Dragon Quest XI. Would be nice to finally get it though SE themselves have said zip all about it since, or very little (honestly not kept up on it).
I would like to see III and IV ports from the DS with just an upres if they want to be lazy. Keep the Steam/Mobile versions far away.
Can someone tell me what the best 3D Sonic game that I can play on a Nintendo console is? (Have all the consoles hooked up except that redheaded stepchild, the Wii U, so none on that console please lol.)
Always thought Sonic was a cool character, and played around a bit with the first couple games on Genesis, but not really a true fan.
Bought Secret Rings in the Wii Era... not fun. I need help so I don’t end up with another turd like that one lol.
Fantastic game. Please let this be true! And while they're at it they can do Secret Rings
@BlubberWhale Sonic Adventure 2 Gamecube
@RareFan Remaster is port with new redrawed HD texture and new models/assets (except Nintendo which just lazy ass upscales them) and remake is complete re-coding the game from scratch
There’s no way they made a mistake by writing Sonic if it’s not a Sonic game, but it’s possible they’re wrong about it being Colours; although I doubt it though because they’ve dubbed Sonic games before and probably know what they’re doing.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi
It’s not a wish list, this company has dubbed Sonic games to German in the past.
@Dezzy lol
@SPARKY358 Yes, it's hyperbole. I reached the final boss in two days, that's ridiculous for a Sonic game.
The fact that people can finish it in under an hour is hilarious though.
@LEGEND_MARIOID I think I kind of expected something like that, thanks! (Maybe I’ll snag a copy someday.)
EDIT:
@SPARKY358 Colors and Forces are good eh? Hmm, might try em someday, thanks 🤙
@SPARKY358 What, with all the characters? I find that hard to believe.
@BlubberWhale I agree with Colours and Forces as well.
Hmmm. I never had the chance to play this one back in the day. I think I might jump on this when it releases. I am not sure if I would pay a full $60 price though.
@AlienX It doesn't matter if a Sonic game is short. If it has good replayable levels then you can get a lot of hours out of it which Colors does. Even tho I must admit some of the levels are stinkers. Better short than Super padded out like Adventure 1 or Unleashed (I like those games but still.)
great - I've never played Colors. Am currently replaying the 3D Sonic games. Finished Sonic Heroes and am playing Shadow the Hedgehog before replaying Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 on the Gamecube
@HammerKirby I loved that Adventure was so huge! It was like six unique games in one. 😃
A game I never finished. Really enjoyed what I did play.
If it will be really released, it would ve great if you could also play the DS version on Switch. You could hold your switch vertically and play on the one joycon!
Also we will see if "Sega does what Nintendon't" is true,if they can make an actual remaster xD
Can we all refer to this as Sonic Colours please and not Sonic Colors??
As a British/European site and considering the game originally even had the name officially changed for the region over here as "Sonic Colours" it would be nice if the author of the article didn't automatically defect to American as opposed to the English language.
@Clyde_Radcliffe All right but by Modern standards it feels bloated. Gamma, Amy and especially Big should be not be required to get to the final story.
Please @dartmonkey use my photo for your article.
sanic the dog!
@ZeldaFanboy78 I do that from time to time for updates on a variety of games and one day I'm sure it'll pay off. Specific titles I look up randomly are Spelunker, Jet Set/Grind Radio, and Sega GT. I also lookup relevant translation companies, composers, and producers for potential leaks and side projects that could be related. You just starting following bread crumbs and happen across something noteworthy, but usually it's nothing.
Sonic Colors was actually good from what remember. Still 9th the Wii game. I dislike pretty much most of these 3D sonic games but this one was an exception.
Oh cool, Forces but with longer levels and more 2D with terrible physics meant for 3D gameplay, a 3D sonic game problem. The DS one was way better, it was just Rush with colors gimmicks used better and more akin to classic Sonic powerups where it doesn't just skip or slow pace down for "haha funny color power moments!".
Wonder if this game reviewed positively then because of how hard it tries to not be a Sonic game and more like a standard attempt at a standard platformer with blocky short 2D levels, like its some standard Mario game.
@BlubberWhale The 2D ones (excluding Sonic 4 Episode I).
@SPARKY358 I'm not european But I spell as colors, I'm just used to that spelling.
Been a Sonic fan since '92, and Colors is the best 3D Sonic.
A remaster is a bit overdue. Needs to be enjoyed by more people.
@HammerKirby That is why I enjoy Sonic games in general, do the story once and then it's just play the time attacks for whatever extras or just to have fun.
But lack of content isn't the problem I have with Colors (though it's a pretty valid point since you're paying for less stuff in comparison to previous games.) The levels, aside from being pretty, were short and without challenge and that's enough for me to dislike it, but the boost gameplay/2D fakeout will always feel disappointing as a fan of the GameCube games. whine whine
I'm sure Mario fans would feel the same if Nintendo only made 2D Mario games. I know I would hate it.
@Beatrice Sonic Colors is one of the good 3D Sonic games.
Would be so cool
One of the best 3d sonic games
I would definitely be up for getting this game again 😊
Keeping my eye on this one. Sonic Colours is one of those Wii games I want in my collection but is difficult to get in my region. If a remaster is indeed coming I'll pick that one up instead.
No leak in the universe is gonna stop Sonic.
If it's true, it will be the nth case of a game I have, but haven't had the time to play it and now a better version gets released. I understand it, but it creates a dilemma in me.
It'll be nice to finally get a good Sonic game for Switch to put next to Mania!
Sonic Generations is next?
I hope this is true! Sonic Colors was one of his most outstanding titles. It deserves a remaster after 10+ years!
