Re: Physical-Only Switch Title 'Demon Throttle' Opens A Second Chance Preorder

BlubberWhale

@Funneefox Haha, right on, forgot about that one. Favorite of all time? That’s some serious high level endorsement! 😃 Looks like another loving treatment of a classic game.

Is it pretty satisfying to go through single player? At a glance it looks like it’s sort of a multiplayer beat ‘em up, which may be why I passed on it. I’ll definitely look into maybe getting it if it’s really that good. Do like the graphics! Great idea.

Here’s my slightly under appreciated game pitch if you want one. Kero Blaster. Buy it without a second thought! (Unless you hated Cave Story… a bit like that game but simpler, not much if any exploration.)

Ha, OK maybe I could’ve picked something else, but that game felt just right, length, price, mechanics… and I sticks out a bit in my memory.

Whew, long comments are tiring!

Re: Cute 'Em Up 'Cotton Fantasy' Secures May Release Date On Switch

BlubberWhale

@WaveBoy Yeah… the charm of the originals just isn’t quite there with this art style… however I may still give it a chance as a new Cotton game is incredibly rare, and they DID seem to put a lot of effort into making a very fun and playable shmup.

Also major bummer about Boomerang and 2… they did shave a couple frames of lag off, but apparently not very good still. Slightly less awful if you really need to play them at a reasonable price, but man, so disappointing. Probably won’t see a proper rerelease for another decade or more. So yeah, can’t support it. Had it been good, that game, along with the amazing Reboot (well, the original game is amazing, and the Reboot is… nice, heh) would pretty much be all the Cotton I need… but again, not super compelled, but might eventually get Rock ‘n Roll/Fantasy whatever it’s called.

Re: Video: Switch Games That Just Make Us Happy

BlubberWhale

Switch games that make me happy:

Mario Odyssey
Kero Blaster
Link’s Awakening
Captain Toad
Whip! Whip!
Mario 3D World + BF
Luigi’s Mansion 3 (after I fixed Y-axis)
Cave Story +
Cotton Reboot
Mario Maker 2
Rabi-Ribi (until it got hard lol)

I could probably improve upon this list ha.

Runners up:
New Super Lucky’s Tale
Pikmin (Just haven’t played it much yet)
Mystik Belle (Also haven’t played much)
Pocky & Rocky (Not out yet lol)
Mario Galaxy (Is it as good on Switch?)

Re: Feature: Hot Zelda: Link To The Past Takes From '90s Game Mags, 30 Years Later

Ever get the feeling the authors at this British site sometimes tire of the English speaking internet being overrun by Americans? They seem to call attention to anything British a lot, including their own Britishness… not really a criticism… just an observation. Understandable. (I can sort of put myself in their shoes.)

Edit:
It’s possible I misread their intentions. Maybe they feel many people are not familiar with their regional quirks and differences and are merely trying not to lose the readers from other places by sort of winking at anything that stands out as maybe a bit unique or obscure.

Edit 2:
Post Script:
If that came off a lil poopy… (ha), sorry ‘bout that. I do love my British pals here on NL and also generally. They make good friends, or so I imagine.

Re: Save On Pac-Man, Anime Games & More In Bandai Namco's Switch eShop Spring Sale

BlubberWhale

@Not_Soos Please do yourself a favor and save up for a good drum (the official Hori one or better). They are amazing games, but only with the drum. Also pretty good for filling in small time windows. It’s actually not good for your eyes to play for hours and hours. The game itself recommends taking breaks every 30 minutes? I forget. Don’t worry, doesn’t hurt your eyes, just a bit tiring if you overdo it. I think I’ve played for an hour straight with to without much issue, just good to take a good break once in a while.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 9th)

BlubberWhale

SUPER MARIO 3D WOOORLD!!!

Maybe a little Paperboy (NES) tonight!

Maybe some… idk, lots of options! Another Captain Toad Treasure tracker level or two? Another run through Kero Blaster? Don’t want to start anything new if I can help it. Nearing the end of 3D World so I can finally play Bowser’s Fury!

Re: Backlog Club: Week Zero - Hello, And Welcome To Backlog Club

BlubberWhale

Love this cozy community club idea, it’s just that… a week to play a game? I’m not nearly that fast. 😭

Well, maybe one of these weeks you’ll all hit a game I’m already working on and I can double down and finish it in time. 😁

Also, please post a cover image for Mystik Belle so my collection here on NL looks better… and then maybe play/review it closer to Halloween. 😃

Re: Random: Where's Ms. Pac-Man in Pac-Land?

BlubberWhale

I accidentally got the collection containing the NES version of this game thinking it was the arcade original… not a big loss (couple fun games there if I recall…), but now I’m happy to finally have a crack at the “real” Pac-Land!

Re: Best Nintendo Switch 3D Platformers

BlubberWhale

@Gs69 Agreed about Captain Toad being amazing. It’s got all the polish and creativity you’d expect from a first party Nintendo title… just a shame so many seem uninterested. So charming and so much bigger and better than the little Captain Toad levels in 3D World. Interesting, challenging, and beautiful levels… buy the dlc and there’s more than enough content. (Still haven’t quite finished it.)

OK I’m done, but if you’re running low on great first party Nintendo Switch titles, grab this! (And Link’s Awakening too… that game is perfect.)

Re: "Sexy" Shooter 'Fingun' Is Coming To Switch This Year

BlubberWhale

Is this Japanese or a Western game with a Japanese theme, because it sort of seems like the latter, but Japanese games have been catering a bit more to us in recent years, so… I’d believe it’s Japanese too. (I’ll do my own Googling if necessary, ha.)

But yeah, not super interested, but I’d be more willing to trust a Japanese dev doing this theme as they’d be likely to know what they’re doing and the humor would probably work better… so yeah, might be interested, need to know more

Re: A Kirby And The Forgotten Land Demo Is Out Now

BlubberWhale

@WaveBoy I just commented how I’ll probably/maybe get it, but… you know, I really don’t need it, and this will save me some money, plus give me time for many other games, not to mention my hobbies and pursuits outside of gaming. 30fps really is too low for a modern game.

If somehow the Switch 2 can play these old games at 60fps (plus some minor effort from the dev)… that would be some glorious news indeed.

Yeah… I think I’ll go the route you mentioned and pick it up on sale someday.

As for LM3… huh, I hadn’t realized it was 30fps. I guess the locked camera angle, not super fast pace, gorgeous textures, and detailed animations sorta distracted me from it… although I’m still only an hour or two in, haven’t found the right time to play it. Yeah, that’s a bit sad, but… I’m not sure I care in that case, which is weird. Maybe it’s got a cinematic thing going on, like how movies are 24fps, but they feel right anyway. Maybe there’s some motion blur or other effect happening lol, I guess I sort of doubt that.

Anyway, yeah… keep trying Hal Labs, make the sequel better. 😅
