And… I might get this… probably will, but… 30fps? Really? Sigh… well, maybe I’ll be able to wait for a good deal. Kinda seems like little more than Star Allies in 3D, but that alone is admittedly just about enough to tempt me. (Even though I kinda regret paying full price for Star Allies.)
Idk, I won’t buy the Wii being retro until the Switch 2 is released. Right now the GameCube is just barely retro.
(And that’s me conceding to the reality of time… the N64 with its primitive graphics is the most recent Nintendo console that has really started to feel truly retro to me personally.)
Hmm, cool, maybe someday I’ll actually go through one of these visual novels. Closest so far was that robot subway game, but never finished it… probably will though
@HammerGalladeBro Not sure, but I think some decent arcade games were still made by then in the 80s… (VCS was 1977), or so you mean after VCS/2600 was done in like 1990 or whatever? Hmm, yeah don’t know, mostly just commenting because I liked your question. But yeah, some good games came from them here and there, but they lost their soul in like the mid 80s I believe.
They had some computers… the 7800… idk. I think their computers were popular a bit after the VCS was on its way out. Yeah sorry, didn’t really look anything up to be sure 😛
Alright… but there’s a reason why Bowsette took the internet by storm and why this won’t. (Although, I haven’t searched, so there may be much… better renditions pulling popularity as we speak.)
In the second poll, what’s the difference between the first two? I voted with the assumption that the credits don’t roll until the main quest is finished. So those are both my choice I guess… I so have sympathies toward the 100% faction though.
@Not_Soos I’d take some “The Noid” games or that 7Up Spot game… there’s a few fun ones.
Would love to see a new Noid game with hyper-photorealistic claymation style animation, 4K HDR, bloom lightning—no NOT bloom lightning (lol), ray tracing, the works!
But for Link’s Awakening and Odyssey’s sake, shame on you lol. You could’ve all worked together to make the world a better place, but you (mostly) just selfishly picked your lil quirky pleasures.
Ha, I liked the content, do more like this.
EDIT: As revenge, I’m going to pick 5 games and delete all others (ignoring release year).
Rabi-Ribi - Yes, that one! 😈
Captain Toad - Because no one supported it, and now you’ll all be forced to suffer!
Mystik Belle - See above!
Pocky & Rocky - It’s the future now! Enjoy it, scum!! 😅???
Cotton Reboot! - Another anime witch girl! Miss Odyssey yet!? 😜
And last but not least, Kero Blaster! Because it’s a damn fine game, and I like to break the rules with a 6th entry! 😁
As much as I dislike big companies cracking down on individuals… I don’t really have a lot of sympathy for emulation enthusiasts.
I don’t care if you wanna mess around with it privately for your own amusement, just don’t be mad if when you share it publicly you run up against this sort of pushback.
I predict the Switch 2 will be successful, but won’t come close to the sales of the Switch. Maybe 20 million units behind at best.
That’s because when the Switch came out it was brand new, and many people were ready to not only give the new hybrid product a try, but give Nintendo as a brand another try, after being away for some time. Now that so many people already have a Switch, and the concept isn’t new, there will be WAY less hype surrounding a new model. Sure the real gamers and Nintendo fanboys will be into it, but the Switch, similar to the Wii, is reaching people well outside the core audience, and I just don’t think those people will be back in equal numbers. The transition will be much better than Wii to Wii U, but… there’s almost nothing Nintendo can do to counteract a certain amount of “hype fatigue.” Don’t get me wrong, Switch 2 will fly off the shelves (if done right), and we could easily see 80-90 million lifetime sales, a big success, but the Switch is gunning for crazy numbers… 130-40 million plus, who knows.
@itslukec Really? I just bought a cheap one (under $20 I think) last year, I was skeptical that it wouldn’t be true S-Video, and just composite running through an S-Video cable (or something), but to my satisfaction, picture looks noticeably sharper and more stable, whatever it’s doing.
Yeah I bough like 3 of em, one for SNES, N64, and GameCube. Got a different one for Wii (I think?), and yeah, haven’t put enough time into figuring out/deciding on a cheap solution to improve my NES image quality.
@Not_Soos Haha, well at least you have that excuse. 😉 What am I supposed to tell people when/if I correct them? I’m just a pretentious jerk-face? (Lol jk, I don’t obsessively correct people.)
(Although technically I went back to a school for a year as an English major for a year at 30 yrs old… but yeah, I was “like this” before and after that ha.)
(After converting to 2D and porting it to Switch.) …Isn’t Switch a weird name? We’re going to look back fondly on these times when everyone was playing a weird console called Switch.
@Nf157 Hey I really appreciate your input. I guess I also have Y and Sun for 3DS… know absolutely nothing about them though lol. (Don’t even have the cases.)
I don’t know much, but I tend to agree that gen 1 is probably the best, or at least my preference, but I’m bit sure if I care enough to snag one on eBay. I’d probably go for like Yellow, because isn’t that still gen 1? I get the feeling Hey You Pikachu/Eevee are like babified easy versions of Yellow right?
Meh, I should probably either play one I own or pony up for Red/Blue/Yellow, rather than getting any Switch remakes.
The anime was fun, just not sure a full grown man can appreciate the game without any real nostalgia attached to it.
It IS somewhat encouraging to hear from you that it’s pretty doable or easy, and not a huge time commitment. Hmm… I’ve flirted with playing Pokémon for a long time (maybe since I bought my DS Lite in ‘06 lol)… maybe someday, ha.
@OorWullie Huh… I guess I need to learn more about this as I didn’t notice. I tend to either use a SNES style controller (either from 8bitDo or Nintendo), OR the Hori RAP V Hayabusa fight stick, which does have some auto fire features.
I may have felt something wasn’t working, but chalked it up to not being super familiar with all of the games mechanics. Hmm, thanks for bringing it to my attention 🙂
@FishyS Yeah I recommend Reboot where you can play the original game. (Tip, you can charge the gems… charge the blue ones for a shield, and keep getting more so you’ll have another shield when it runs out. It will make your life so much easier.) And yes, the cuteness, music, and atmospheric background art are great!
Wow… I might actually be tempted to play my first Pokémon game…
(Part if me wants to have a more classic style “GameBoy Color” experience, but… just seems too tedious and time consuming at this stage in my life… I do have a GB Color and I think Crystal? Whatever it’s called… is that a good one? Lol) That remake of Yellow seems like a fun starting point as well… hmm…
@Screen If you can complete every game in one month and then cancel… it might be worth it lol. (But you’re still left with nothing, which is why I can only barley stomach paying for the base NSO.)
You can hate me for this if you want, but please don’t give us an incredibly dark gritty Zelda film. I can already see the trailer… Link’s dirt encrusted sweating fire lit face… shouting his signature “AAAIIIIAAAAHHH!!” (OK maybe that would be pretty awesome lol.) But I don’t want the lighter quirky moments mishandled… I imagine someone like Wes Anderson could make a compelling Zelda movie. Link’s interactions with weird NPCs, the fun dialogue… and Anderson’s pastel color palette could lend itself to a slightly Wind Waker aesthetic… it could still get dark at the end though of course.
I also don’t want to see Link talking… or at least very minimally… I do however want him to be very expressive and have personal moments of reflection with him… maybe some flashbacks whatever.
@GrailUK No I like that, and I’ve gotten basically the same sensation you’re describing from shmups and other similar arcade experiences… I knew Tempest was something of a classic, I just wanted to hear from someone who’s played it the right way, enough to get good and get a feeling for what it can offer… or something lol. Thanks, I’m pretty sure if I took the time to learn it I would love it.
@BlackenedHalo I agree that too much HD-2D will feel stale and samey after awhile, but… certainly no more than the glut of retro style games we already have and continue to receive. The new style is at least an admirable attempt to freshen up what some consider a bit dated. (I’m fine with the OG look, but I do think this new style is rather nice and could be more engaging for the younger generations checking these titles out. Meh, I’m good either way 😛
@GrailUK I like your enthusiasm, could I trouble you to elaborate a bit on what makes the game fun/exciting/addictive/etc for you? I can imagine, but sounds like you’ve played tempest a fair bit more than I have.
We have over a year, why would there be strain? And why the flurry of articles? I guess that’s cool, even though they’ll all need to be repeated next year… helpful to make sure everyone gets their games downloaded.
@robe Well… it does suck, but maybe some day retro games will go back to being uncool… although with the amount of views YouTubers get from gaming videos… the good word of how awesome they are continues to be spread. Heh. Yay. (It’s all good, there are still affordable fun games, and boatloads of re-releases… too many to play them all really.)
@NinChocolate I know, sucks for hipsters like us who were always into old games (before it was cool-ish)… just seems like the scene is a bit too crowded now. Heh. Well, maybe it helps keep the re-releases coming at least… good for game preservation. But yeah, not as fun as it was in like 2008 or something.
One positive note to end on though. These old games are still neat, all you need is a few to enjoy the “hobby,” I’ve never bothered getting a bunch of high priced games (highest I paid was maybe $75 for Gargoyle’s Quest 2, and maybe $200-ish for Mega Man 1-6) BUT my point is you can still enjoy the games regardless of what other people are doing. Don’t worry about it, just buy one every once in awhile (that you’ll actually play), admire the art/music, find other people who actually like the games and aren’t just obsessed with flexing. I just had to say something because I find it weird how people can “give up” on retro gaming… like why let outside influences ruin it for you?
Kinda weird they didn’t make a big deal out of the fact that they are so extensively remastered, almost to the point of looking like remakes. (But not quite, which is almost preferable imo, since I wanna get a bit of the flavor of the original game.)
I can’t even find any YouTubers talking about this and comparing the games or analyzing the trailers… though admittedly the fanbase is pretty small…
The preview subtitle only displayed “It's like Nintendo's version of the B…” and for a second I thought it was was going to finish with “burning of the Library of Alexandria” lol 😂
Maybe I’m just a cynical bass-turd, but boy does it feel like Nintendo is really trying hard to collect money while giving nothing. I mean I’m not really opposed to the concept of renting, but this whole thing was very much cooked up in a business meeting, and certainly doesn’t spring from a desire to bring more fun and entertainment. (All games are a business move, I know, but there’s a difference here between deciding on what type of gameplay will bring the most dollars, and what type of service… one which provides things that can all be resold again at a later date after they pull the plug on NSO.)
EDIT:
And don’t get me wrong about the new MK8D tracks. I’m actually one of the few people who prefer this over Mario Kart 9. I just feel like 8 is so polished and awesome… we’re good on Mario Kart. (Give us a new 3D Mario adventure.) We can wait until the next Switch for Mario Kart 9.
I mean I guess it adds value, sure, but as long as the expansion pack is just renting, buying the DLC outright to keep presumably for the rest of your life is a much better deal.
Come on, only like 27 people thought Klonoa was the best announcement? (I’ll just assume the rest placed it at number 2 lol.) Now don’t forget to actually buy it this summer! 😃
And bemused and baffled voter here. But really, it was… just really refreshing! In a world of generic orchestrations and rock riffs, it was just so nice to hear something DIFFERENT! 😌 A very nice quirky and modern arcadey vibe.
Always pleased to see a new Direct on the way, but… am I the only one who just can get hyped anymore? Granted there are a few things that could blow my socks off and have me yelling at the screen with… frenzied jubilation… but, 9 times out of 10 (maybe 8) I just kinda hover between pleasantly content and slightly bored. It’s just so rarely awesome that there’s no point getting super excited. (And I’m not that hard to please, just give me Wind Waker HD dang it! Lol)
I’m mostly talking recent times…
Anyway hoping for some cool announcement, maybe a hint at Mario Odyssey 2. (Almost don’t wanna say it for fear of jinxing it lol.)
@DK-Fan After seeing several several people mention their total, I’m curious to know mine lol. I think it’s around 30-35 physical, and no idea about digital. Maybe 50 or 60 total? I’ll have to count em up 😛
And do compilations only count as 1? Like RE Origins? Bayo 2+1? It gets tricky when going for a definitive count… Like I’m guessing more people would be willing to count those as multiple games than day Mega Man or Namco collections, but why? I think I’ll just have to include all collections that were purchased as one package, as one title… even if ultimately I’ll have a good few more actual games. (Or I’ll just do two lists, one list full of asterisks, whatever.)
Thanks for reading DK-Fan, you’re a real champ. I like DK pretty well too. Lol
@AcridSkull Do you have Mystik Belle, Pikmin 3, Sakuna, and Cotton Reboot? What about Link’s Awakening, Mario Maker 2, and Captain Toad?
Just checking… 🙂
I don’t know how many games I have… far fewer, was just listing some games I care about, some of which don’t get enough attention… even if a few ARE multi-million sellers. 😛
EDIT: Oh, how about Kamiko? Surprisingly pleasant game, even if a little simplistic.
Haven’t read the review or seen any video yet, but just the title and a couple screenshots allow me to already place this one firmly in my NL “maybe” list.
@Cheez As long as they don’t name it that lol. Imagine repeating the same mistake again. Popular console followed by a successor with a “U” at the end. Please give us just a nice simple Switch 2, or… something clear.
But I agree, kind of a shame we can’t use Wii remotes on the Switch.
Pretty awesome, but when looking at the full history of console sales, we should keep in my population growth. America has almost 80 MILLION more people than it did in 1990 for example.

I mean I guess it adds value, sure, but as long as the expansion pack is just renting, buying the DLC outright to keep presumably for the rest of your life is a much better deal.
(Awkward wording but you get what I mean.)
Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of The February 2022 Nintendo Direct?
Come on, only like 27 people thought Klonoa was the best announcement? (I’ll just assume the rest placed it at number 2 lol.) Now don’t forget to actually buy it this summer! 😃
And bemused and baffled voter here. But really, it was… just really refreshing! In a world of generic orchestrations and rock riffs, it was just so nice to hear something DIFFERENT! 😌 A very nice quirky and modern arcadey vibe.
Re: Klonoa Phantasie Reverie Series Brings Two Classic Platformers To Switch In July
@Ryu_Niiyama won’t even crack a million…
…And I don’t say that with any shred of satisfaction. 😞
Re: Klonoa Phantasie Reverie Series Brings Two Classic Platformers To Switch In July
Do Brits really say 8th July? Without an “of.”
Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 9th February 2022
Re: The 'State Of Switch' Survey For 2022 Is Live And Wants Your Opinions
Lol
Re: The 'State Of Switch' Survey For 2022 Is Live And Wants Your Opinions
@AcridSkull Do you have Mystik Belle, Pikmin 3, Sakuna, and Cotton Reboot? What about Link’s Awakening, Mario Maker 2, and Captain Toad?
Just checking… 🙂
I don’t know how many games I have… far fewer, was just listing some games I care about, some of which don’t get enough attention… even if a few ARE multi-million sellers. 😛
EDIT: Oh, how about Kamiko? Surprisingly pleasant game, even if a little simplistic.
Re: Review: Swords & Bones - Ghosts 'N Goblins-Style Indie Action, With A Dash Of Castlevania
Haven’t read the review or seen any video yet, but just the title and a couple screenshots allow me to already place this one firmly in my NL “maybe” list.
Re: The Wii U Is Getting A New eShop Game In 2022, Will Include Balance Board Support
Re: Nintendo Minute's Kit And Krysta Reveal Why They Left The Company
@Medic_Alert Old, or just part of a dying breed. There are too few of us left… 😛
Re: Switch Outsells Wii And PlayStation, Passes 100 Million Faster Than Any Other Home Console
Pretty awesome, but when looking at the full history of console sales, we should keep in my population growth. America has almost 80 MILLION more people than it did in 1990 for example.
Re: This Man Needs Your Help To Create The Best 24kb Game For The NES, Ever
Hmmm… looks kinda neat.
Re: Out Now: Radirgy Swag Unleashes Vertical Shoot 'Em Up Action On Switch
@completo88 Yes for sure! 😄
