Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Fan Of The Art Style In Zelda: Wind Waker When He First Saw It

BlubberWhale

I can’t remember actually hating it, but I do remember it took a bit to adjust. (Also I didn’t play it until like 2006/07 when I got my Wii, so was totally on board well before that.)

I think when it was new, I watched my friend play it awhile, and I was sort of bemused and… generally accepting of it even by then I think. So yeah pre-launch shock mostly out of the way by the time it came out, and then seeing the cool gameplay… yeah, interesting little chapter of gaming history.

Re: Klonoa Collection Frame Rate, Resolution And File Size For Switch Revealed

BlubberWhale

@Fizza Haha, yeah, it sorta sticks in my mind as well... but... like you, its up there with my very favorite Switch games. I just never would've expected them to remake one of my favorite games, and even if I hadn't played the original, its still awesome on its own without any nostalgia. That game needs more love, I'd like to see it hit 10 million in sales at least, but... I should probably be happy if it reaches 8. (All I know is 5.49 mil as of March 31, 2021.)

Isn't Link's Awakening on Switch great!!? Sorry, I just never find anyone who seems to really like that game as much as I do, ha. (Even though, I must admit, I haven't finished it. Hoping to make time...)

You are correct to be a bit cautious about Klonoa. I'm feeling somewhat optimistic, but for all we know it could be a real turd performance-wise... that would be super sad.

Hoping with Bandai Namco behind it, they won't let it chug too hard... right? 😅 Nah, its gonna be great! Can't wait! Pre-ordered a physical copy!

Re: Klonoa Collection Frame Rate, Resolution And File Size For Switch Revealed

BlubberWhale

Hell yeah! This is great, no complaints. (Although with that size difference, I wonder if other versions will be noticeably crisper... oh well, I'm playing this on a Nintendo.)

...Oh that sweet, sweet juicy 1080p/60fps combo. Was braced for 30fps so this just made my day.

@Fizza Haha, I know. I've sorta gotten over it somehow. Its a pretty smooth game for the most part, and I just love that it even exists and attempts 60fps, so much that... well, I can't be mad at it, ha. (Its basically rock solid 60 in the dungeons as far as I can tell.)

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th May (Europe)

Hmm… Cotton? Snow Bros? Maybe nothing for a bit. Already got a lot of games, and several recently. (Plus I have Cotton Reboot already, which has the original game… main Cotton I wanted. Also if the lag was ever fixed, Boomarang and 2 would be next on the Cotton list.)

EDIT: Although… I would like to support a new Cotton release, and even though I don’t love the new art direction, it’s decent, and apparently the gameplay and level design show there was actually some care put into this game. Could be fun, I’ll probably come back for this one sometime.

Re: Legend Of Zelda Fans Accuse Indie Game Of "Ripping-Off" Link's Awakening

BlubberWhale

@jojobar Yeah I can appreciate that. Complaining about the dev, or over correcting and hating on the complainers… a relaxed conversation is preferable. I guess I’ll just need to know more before it’s worth getting into. A good interview with the dev might be useful… although I still can’t help feeling his work speaks for itself…

Re: Legend Of Zelda Fans Accuse Indie Game Of "Ripping-Off" Link's Awakening

BlubberWhale

@Snatcher Look I WANT to root for this game, and it seems like you do too. It just… feels like the a dev project made to show off their technical prowess In recreating the look of a popular Nintendo game. I don’t get a strong sense of integrity from the developer. Maybe that could change. Maybe… say… the story somehow ends up really shining on its own. Maybe some changes get made to give it more it’s own personality. Idk… would be hard to convince me they had honest intentions. So… I’ll have to wait for some big updates before I can consider letting this game into my heart… yeah, that’s the other thing. I feel very personally about most of games I play. Would be harder to get invested in something like this. If you and others don’t feel that way, fair enough, I’ve got no ill will for anyone.

Re: Legend Of Zelda Fans Accuse Indie Game Of "Ripping-Off" Link's Awakening

BlubberWhale

@jojobar The most impressive thing about all that hard work is the close attention paid to LA’s detail. That effort could have been spent on their own ideas rather than recreating LA and tweaking it a bit. They could have at least deviated a LITTLE bit.. come on.

Weird when people defend profiting off other people’s designs. (If this was a fan project done and distributed for free, that would be a whole different thing. Not to my taste, but perfectly defensible.)

Re: Review: Pocky & Rocky Reshrined - A Thrilling New Interpretation Of A SNES Classic

BlubberWhale

@completo88 You may not be one who cares to be asked, but what do you think, did they only remaster this in HD, or do you think they had the foresight to future proof it by making the assets in 4K? (I assume this release is in 1080p/60fps, even on PS5/Series X.)

Probably looks good enough on a 4K TV, but… I always prefer my games to match or exceed the native resolution of my TV. (I chose a 1080p TV specifically because I intended to do lots of Switch gaming on it. No regrets.)

Re: Where To Buy PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 Mini

BlubberWhale

Got one a little late, but glad it was before prices went way up and availability went way down. Might’ve had to pay 10 extra bucks or something.

EDIT: I didn’t realize I already mentioned it here last July… and that that was still the last comment on this thread. 😅

Re: Ganryu 2 Patch Improves Frame Rate Issues On Switch

BlubberWhale

@jrt87 Hmm, I’ve always been, and remain on the fence about him (granted looking into the Bird King thing could settle me against him, don’t know what that is), but two or three of those bullet points hardly make him “awful.” Bland maybe, not my kinda guy… probably, but awful? I’ll have to look into it myself I guess.

Re: 'Capcom Fighting Collection' Brings An Arcade Exclusive Home After 26 Years

BlubberWhale

@Ryu_Niiyama Would be a crying shame if the Switch 2 weren’t backwards compatible. Nintendo has a relatively good history with that, so I’m somewhat hopeful.

What is probably impossible to hope for is current Switch games getting proper 4k upscaling when played on the Switch 2.

I don’t want my 720p games to look extra bad on a 4k tv. (I purposely chose a 1080p TV in 2017 over an affordable 4k TV specifically to match the native maximum output resolution of the Switch.) Looks so much better than playing it on a 4K TV.

Re: 'Capcom Fighting Collection' Brings An Arcade Exclusive Home After 26 Years

BlubberWhale

@MetalHawk Wow, I have some shockingly good news for you. Are you ready? I’m serious, I can’t even believe this is real, OK… if you preorder this collection… you get FLIPPIN’ THREE WONDERS!!! FREE!!!

I can’t even describe how much I’ve wanted this… how long I’ve waited for this game to come to consoles. (PSP port doesn’t count ha.) Hope you’re even a tenth as happy as I am, because that’s still pretty dang happy! 😄

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th October (North America)

BlubberWhale

@FishyS I would definitely start with Cotton Reboot! Physical copy should still be available if you're into that. (I got one.)

Anyway, a couple years after the original arcade game was released, an enhanced port was released on the X68000 computer. That port is is also included in Cotton Reboot! Maybe you know this stuff, but I'm making my case as to why this is a great way, if not the best way to start the series.

Just such hype music and Halloweeny atmosphere. Love it! (Little tip to get started. Collect the blue gems. Then don't just fire them, charge them by holding down the button for several seconds, and then releasing once charged. This creates a temporary shield which helps you survive while you collect more blue gems. (Shooting the gems changes their color.) Other colors have other effects... experiment, have fun! (I'm a complete novice, so there are likely better strats. I just stumbled onto something that helped keep me alive.)

So I guess I could have just said start with the first, or earliest version available. If not the original arcade version, than go with this. Its the same but better. (Except maybe in one way.)

Also, I doubt it matters too much. PC Engine CD version has great music. Someday I hope to play that, not just listen to the music. Heh.

Re: 'Capcom Fighting Collection' Brings An Arcade Exclusive Home After 26 Years

BlubberWhale

@GrailUK Right!? Doesn’t help that the Switch has such a MONSTER library! 😄

So far this year I’ve only ordered Pocky & Rocky and Klonoa. Oh and that dollar game on the eshop, Toree 3D, but I don’t… really count that, heh.

So yeah, now I’m just adding this to my “will almost certainly buy” list. (Mainly because of Darkstalkers, and I somehow don’t own SF2 yet so that’s nice.) Probably a few I’ve forgotten… trying not to remember! 😂 Fatal Frame is one such contender….

So I’m doing good except when you consider I still have to figure out what Wii U and 3DS games I “need” before it’s too late. 😅😅 I guess I did already snag a physical copy of NES Remix as well, so pretty pleased about that.

Re: 'Capcom Fighting Collection' Brings An Arcade Exclusive Home After 26 Years

BlubberWhale

@JasmineDragon I don’t play them much myself, so I get that… although I do really like the concept and would definitely have played them more growing up if I had other people to play against. (So I might be more naturally more enthusiastic then you but it’s all good.)

I almost want them purely for the extremely high quality pixel art and animation. Some if these titles essentially represent the pinnacle of the art form visually, and maybe even gameplay-wise.

I guess I’m just suggesting to give it a shot if you’re not too tight on funds for the gorgeous characters, and super atmospheric stages and music…

Yeah just pick a character and learn all the moves. May feel like work for a bit, but way more fun then button mashing for 10 minutes and getting bored by the random results.

Well, just spewing out some thoughts, thanks for reading lol 😂
