Re: The Wonderful 101: Remastered's Free Stretch-Goal DLC Is Available Now

BlubberWhale

@thesilverbrick Did… we pay more? I thought I just paid retail price on Kickstarter. Hmm, you may be right. I guess the higher tears did advertise this DLC as one of the incentives… although I also thought a stretch goal was basically “if we get enough money, aka orders, we’ll make this dlc for everyone.” Idk, I can’t remember exactly how it worked, so not sure who should be upset, if anyone…

Re: Talking Point: Just How Old Is Mario In The Super Mario Bros. Movie?

BlubberWhale

@Ratmasterd21 No I gotcha. I know what a legal adult is. Yes, Mario could make his own decisions at 18 like everyone else haha. (This conversation is funny.) I was just taking into account other factors involved in maturity. For example the male brain isn’t fully mature until around 26 [citation needed].

Then other things like life experience come into play, so I was just voicing my opinion that to me Mario seems like he’s at that point in his life. 30+

It doesn’t matter though, and I’m happy if others think he’s 20.

Re: Nintendo Extends Code Redemption Deadline For Wii U & 3DS eShops

BlubberWhale

Can we get an update to the article explaining what you can and cannot do? Also some of us (mostly me) barely know how these consoles work even under normal circumstances, so... redeeming a code sounds like you buy a game code, and then go to the eShop to download it buy entering in a code. Is this possible with any game, or just a select few retail releases that had codes instead of discs? Hmm... I wonder... 🤔

Re: Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series Was Developed For Switch First

BlubberWhale

Glad I picked up a physical copy at release (playasia). Got the Japanese one, but trying to remember why… was there no American physical release? Hmm 🤔 (Also Japanese over Asia, because if I can’t collect the NA version, I at least want the one from the country of origin.)

Anyway, haven’t gotten to it yet, but super happy with how it looks. One of those weird games I feel nostalgia for even though I’ve never played it, and only found out it existed when the Wii version happened… a version I sadly never played.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees

BlubberWhale

@TotalHenshin I mostly agree, but depends on how they do it. An HD re-release with graphical touch would feel pretty weird (even if I personally would love it), but if they wanted to actually go all out and release it more as a “Melee 2,” and add in a bunch of characters but still based on the Melee engine and mechanics… I mean that would actually be an interesting release, would definitely pique People’s interest, while also being a manageable project. If they just keep iterating on Smash for Wii U (which is what Ultimate is), eventually people are going to realize it’s getting stale… kinda like the modern Street Fighter games. I really hope the next Smash isn’t just “Ultimate: Plus Even More This Time.”

Anyway, I know as well as you Melee HD or Melee 2 won’t happen in our lifetimes, but we may live to see a radical new direction for Smash… and perhaps taking a little inspiration from the *sharpest entry in the series could help with that.

*There’s a quote from a Famitsu interview, as you might know, where Sakurai calls Melee the sharpest. He said there will probably never be another entry as geared toward the hardcore gamer as Melee was. So that’s what all this boils down to. “Hardcore gamers” don’t really like casual games. The movement feels limiting. Casual games don’t like hardcore games. They are too hard to understand.

Though with that said, I think if Melee never had any sequels, or if they were a lot more like Melee than they turned out to be… casuals would still love to play just like they did from 2001-2008. For those 6+ years, everyone enjoyed Melee at all skill levels. So sad that Nintendo has to try to cut out such a big part of their audience to chase after a bigger casual audience. I do also understand Nintendo wanting to shy away from playing game’s competitively for money, and that should go equally for Ultimate and Splatoon. Meh, this is long enough. 😅

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees

BlubberWhale

@StarryCiel I’m a big Melee fan, not super good or anything, but it’s a thing of beauty for me, and was probably also one of the most mine blowing, expectation shattering sequels of all time (or at least in my time)… so yeah, I’ll defend Melee til I die, but I think your comment is a pretty based and reasonable take. It is sad, I don’t like the tension that seems to exist toward/around Melee and it’s fans now… not by all, but some people have a grudge against it (and probably any other high skill game)… and like you said, unfortunately, it’ll probably just be best to for both camps (Melee players, and Nintendo) to just ignore each other… really is sad. I feel like if Sakurai wouldn’t cling so tenaciously to his philosophy of game development, and allowed a little compromise, all parties could be unified and satisfied. Oh well.

Re: Random: Smash Bros. Melee HD Unlikely To Happen, According To Former Nintendo Employees

BlubberWhale

Was this posted just to rub it in the Melee community’s face, or is simply news news on a game? Because it feels a bit like “Ha, I told you! Suck on that you horrible Melee people!” Mainly asking because in the past it has felt a bit like NL is anti-Smash Melee.

Hope I’m wrong.

Also is it “the black market emulation,” or as I heard it, “the black mark of emulation?” (Watched their video yesterday.)

Re: Random: Kirby's Dream Land 2's Animal Friends Might Not Be What They Seem

BlubberWhale

I don’t know how I feel about this… or how I should feel.

Feelings… let’s all feel a lot about Kirby. Anyway, yeah played this as a kid. Was pretty into Kirby for awhile. A friend had the original which might’ve had better music and the advantage of being fresh and new, but you gotta admit 2 is basically just better. Great game… wish I could still like Kirby, but they changed his physics too much, and the art style of what he looks like inflated used to be so much funnier… now he’s been blandified a bit too much. Might enjoy Forgotten Land for what it is… eventually, but still not really what I liked about Kirby. K this wasn’t meant to be a rant lol. Also I really liked Canvas Curse. That needs to be known by strangers. Bye!

Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Legend Of Zelda Game?

BlubberWhale

@I_commented Also, in the spirit of picking on poor Alana (kiddin around here! 😜), I think she meant to say Ocarina of Time at the end, but Link to the Past popped in the brain to displace it. (Also an excellent contender vs BOTW tbh.)

We got the point though 🤙

EDIT: OK I re-read it and… yeah I guess she was just saying OoT piqued her interest, and because of that, two other Zeldas are her favorite. My bad dawg. 😄

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Live A Live

BlubberWhale

@Krull I’m with you on that last part, although I might want it a tiny bit more than “kinda,” but… yeah I just don’t get through games often enough to justify more purchases. Backlogs are a good problem though. If I ever want to actually sink some time into gaming, I’ve got some real gems to get to. (IMO of course.)

Re: Nintendo Confirms Physical Edition Of First Bayonetta, Launching This Year

BlubberWhale

@Browny In exactly the same boat… well, not exactly. I have played what feels like perhaps a third or so of the first game. Got stuck on a boss and never got back to it.

That physical copy is tempting… but with a few exceptions I avoid buying purely for collecting’s sake. An exception being re-buying Cave Story+ for the Japanese cover art (US release), even though I already had the first release physical edition. Maybe not my best move, but… oh well, maybe I’ll give away a copy.

Re: UK Charts: Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series Makes A Respectable Debut

BlubberWhale

@jowe_gw Awesome. If you feel like sharing any thoughts on Kao the Kangaroo after you eventually play it, please do. (Ha, I don’t seriously expect you to find your way back here, but it’s a nice thought heh.)

Also… probably best not to hear any glowing reviews… already too much to play. 😅 Still gotta decide on Bayo 3 this year… hmm.

Re: UK Charts: Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series Makes A Respectable Debut

BlubberWhale

@Toads-Friend I agree, but I’ve just shifted my focus from looking for the latest fun news to exploring games (mostly older ones) that I’ve never taken time for before. If you’re anything like me, there’s always a backlog of amazing games to check out. Yeah, might not be the new hotness, but just… idk, just a reminder to enjoy games for what they are, and don’t worry about the current culture as much.

If you have NSO… that’s a ton of gaming right there. I guess you sort of have to make a conscious effort to get into that retro mood, but when you do, those are some of the best times you can have gaming.

Not trying to talk down to you, I do get it. I haven’t been interested in much from Nintendo in a good while. Don’t care much about Metroid Prime 4 (could change) or BOTW2… but I’d flip over a Mario Odyssey 2!

I have however been pretty excited about stuff like Cotton, Pocky & Rocky, Klonoa, Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium (because of 3 Wonders) and Fighting Collection… some others too probably… so I’m good. It’s a good time to let some of these smaller titles shine.

Yep, hope you can find the joy again… while we wait for Nintendo’s special brand of fun to return.

Re: Where To Pre-Order 'Live A Live' On Switch

BlubberWhale

@IndoorEnthusiast I can appreciate that! Heh, I ordered Capcom Fighting Collection from Target with similar thoughts... though might not have been available at Amazon anyway. (Issue with my card caused it to get cancelled a month after preordering and I missed the email, so I'm just gonna go pick it up from the store here in town... like right now, ha.)

Best Buy, Target, Playasia (for imports), even Game Stop once or twice. I do like to mix it up a bit. Actually Amazon is usually my last choice, but I do use it a good amount for gear and oddball purchases. I don't hate Amazon, but yeah... don't want to see other options disappear.

Re: Best James Bond Games On Nintendo Systems

BlubberWhale

I’m I the only one who’s circle (rightly) refused to play GoldenEye multiplayer without Tubo Mode turned on?

Get used to that and it’s hard to play normal speed.

Those were some intense matches with a ton of skill. Especially with Golden guns only (honor system). You could actually have a chance of zigzagging your way to victory if you found yourself without a gun or out if ammo… good stuff, can’t wait for the remake. They better include Turbo for online multiplayer…

Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Fan Of The Art Style In Zelda: Wind Waker When He First Saw It

BlubberWhale

@Spoony_Tech Ah cool, a gaming vet. 🙂 Guess I would’ve been… 18? (“Sadly” That’s hilarious, ha!) But yeah, glad you liked the style right away. As I mentioned, though my memory is hazy, I don’t think it took me long to embrace it. Then again I still hadn’t really experienced a full Zelda game on my own yet, so I didn’t take the change too personally… maybe? I’ll have to dig into my old repressed memories a little deeper lol.

EDIT: OK I didn’t finish it, but I guess I had already played a good chunk of Link’s Awakening by that point.
