Such a shame. This is such a great game, if nothing for the lack of boards. I don't think it needed Smash-level attention, but 6-8 launch boards felt more appropriate than 4.

I empathise with Nintendo here, if their plan was to release 4 this holiday season and surprise us with Trilogy this spring our summer in the same announcement that they drop 4's holiday release date. Fans would have gone nuts in excitement. Now 4 got severely delayed and Trilogy got leaked. What a cluster for them.

If they drop a patch I'll pick it up.

I'd much rather go the way of free market. Let developers do as they wish, if it's not financially supported by consumers then a pivot, or regression, will occur. If it is financially supported by consumers, then everyone else may need to consider accounting for that in their business model. Different strokes for different folks, variety is the spice of life, etc, etc.
