Re: Review: PixelJunk Monsters 2 (Switch eShop)

BitLounger

I absolutely love this game. Never played the first one, but didn't take long to get addicted to this version. While there are unforgiving moments I do welcome the challenge. I think without those it would be too easy. My only complaint is that the masks and shields you buy with ancient tokens are strictly aesthetic, making it feel as though the reward of tokens is rather useless. Other than that this is a fantastic game.

Re: E3 2018: What Do You Want To See From Nintendo At E3?

BitLounger

@MoonKnight7 I feel you. Every year around April I start getting excited for E3 in the hopes of an announcement and always end up left out in the dust. Despite it's lack of commercial success, I was dreaming of an Animal Crossing Wii U with game pad inventory menus. Oh well!

Re: Nintendo Announces Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! For Nintendo Switch

I'm not sure why everyone is made about the Pokemon Go integration, my understanding is that it's optional. This basically sounds like updated Pokemon Yellow, which I think will bridge the gap between old and new play methods. I personally am looking forward to playing again in Kanto, and as someone who was 8 when Gen 1 came out I've lost touch with the last several generations' Pokemon. It will be refreshing to be back in familiar territory in an updated skin. I have a feeling people are really going to enjoy this when it's all said and done.

Re: SwitchCharge Smashes Its Funding Goal

BitLounger

@roadrunner343 I completely agree with your statement. I did a Kickstarter last year for BitLounger (aesthetically-pleasing SNES game storage), and while it was successful, there was A LOT of backlash bashing pricing, need, etc from the gamer community. One of the things I learned was that everyone assumes they are the target market for anything they see. Instead of "that's cool, but not for me", it's "Why would I buy this when I can just buy [insert cheaper alternative that doesn't exactly line up]". Constructive feedback is always extremely valuable, but many times it's either not constructive or not coming from the actual target market.

Re: "Wouldn't That Be Wonderful?" - Reggie Fils-Aime on Cloud Services for Nintendo Switch

BitLounger

I never really understood the Reggie hate! There's a time and a place to announce all of the things he's being asked, and even as a President it's not his place solely to make the call on when that happens. I quite enjoyed his commentary near the end regarding Nintendo strategy. While I'm as big a fan as anyone, I would much rather receive little bits of information over an extended period of time rather than all at launch. It will keep things interesting! I'm excited for the rest of this year and 2018. I'm sure there will be at least a dozen awesome moments of excitement regarding game releases or Switch system updates. Keep on keeping on, Reggie.

Re: Super Mario Run Sprints Onto Android This March

@JamieH Unfortunately I don't see it having much of an impact at all. FE on mobile is such a small fish in the pond of Nintendo that I'm not sold on that boosting anything for shareholders. I've been one for a few years ago now, and investors are solely going to be interested in Switch-centric release information and numbers. Anything mobile-related would have to be Tier One IP to move the needle, and that would be after Nintendo has proved it has viable revenue generation from their mobile strategy. You always have to look at things inside the entire ecosystem of a company when it comes to investor sentiment. The only mobile-related "stock boost" I could see is if Nintendo created a mobile Virtual Console app that sold a library of retro game IP. They're not quite ready to do that at this point yet as the idea of mobile is relatively new to Nintendo. They treat the classic library with kid gloves.

Re: Soapbox: Why I Still Love the Wii U

BitLounger

As a huge Nintendo fan who just didn't caych on to the Wii motion control craze I absolutely adore the Wii U. The first party titles alone make it worth it. I know for a lot of people who became gamers in the past five to ten years there may not be as much of a Nintendo loyalty as there was during the 90s and early 2000s. Well I believe Nintendo is an incredibly strong and well-respected brand comma I don't feel like the experience that they cater to resonates with the core video game Market. This isn't to say that there is not an opportunity for Nintendo to regain some of that however unfortunately many people who do enjoy Nintendo at younger stages in their life phase out into other IPs as they age and the parents aren't the ones making the buying decisions anymore. That rabble aside the WiiU is incredible. I know a lot of people like Super Mario maker, but games such as Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon and at least a half a dozen other titles make picking the system up completely worth it. Nintendo historically has and always will continue to zig when the rest of the market zags. That strategy is a huge gamble, but pays off just as equally as large when it hits. The fantastic thing about Nintendo is that even if the market doesn't necessarily receive it well, it's definitely never going to be a bad product. They've done a fantastic job of, no matter what, making sure that what they put into the market is polished. That is something that is incredibly difficult to do at the rate of consistency that Nintendo achieves.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch's Final Specs Don't Matter

BitLounger

In thinking about it, I don't believe it would be a commercial failure even without 3rd party support. If they have both portable and home console dev teams moving in under one roof to develop games, I'd expect at least 50-60% more solid first-party games for the Switch. As long as they have a strong launch lineup and more consistent releases I think that's enough to carry the system.

Re: eBay Reports an Average NES Mini Sale Price of Over $200

BitLounger

I wonder if maybe scalpers, eBay and Nintendo or all not the problem here. If consumers were able to wait a mere couple of extra months for anything scalpers wouldn't exist. While I personally wouldn't go out of my way to buy something of high demand to resell it, I can't fault them for exploiting someone's impatience. I'll tell you this much: scalpers are not to blame for the short supply. Even Nintendo isn't to blame for the short supply. Manufacturing is an extremely laborious and lengthy process. Companies cannot afford to wait an additional 6-12 months to make sure 75%+ of the units they are going to sell over the lifetime of a product are ready to ship on launch day. The storage costs and capital tied up in assets that aren't available for sale drives costs up even further. Even for companies flush with capital it makes the most sense to release in steady, planned stages. When Nintendo pushes back release dates people complain. When they stick to release dates and don't have enough stock people complain. There's no winning to be had by the company. eBay here is the farthest removed from blame, they are merely a platform for which to buy and sell goods. Hate it all you want, but remember: patience is a virtue.
