Themed controllers are all the rage on the Nintendo Switch right now. There are Joy-Con based on Mario and Zelda and even Crash Bandicoot Pro Controllers. PowerA - the creator of many of these designs - is at it again, this time releasing a new eye-catching chrome line of officially licensed wired Pro Controllers for the Nintendo Switch. This new line includes four different controllers inspired by Super Mario, Metroid and The Legend of Zelda.
Each controller is priced at $29.99 on PowerA's website and includes a 10ft removable USB cable. Here's a description of the Zelda one:
The Chrome Edition Legend of Zelda Controller for Nintendo Switch features the Hylian Crest on an outstanding blue chrome design! This traditional-style controller is officially licensed by Nintendo, with an 10ft removable USB cable for quick response time and plenty of playing room.

Reminds me of the good old days of Lego Mr.Gold.
Nothing I love more than staring at my own fingerprints while playing games with a wired controller like it's the Middle Ages.
Hmm. I would have gone for a gold Zelda controller with Triforce theme
I saw tons of these at Walmart. They look pretty dang cool!
I’ll stick with my pro controller that’s wireless
Are they missing features besides being wired?
It can't be real Chrome, that'd be so expensive, and likely very heavy by game controller standards.
Nice I'll have to nab that samus one for sure. It'll be nicer playing fightan games with a wired controller vs wireless IMO.
I got my kids the Splatoon controller. They all want to use it. They don’t care if it’s wired, they just like the paint splatters on it.
Not quite as nice as Wii U pro controller rather but nicer than the ugly Switch Pro controller.
A middle ground.
There is something about these controllers that seems oddly cheap to me.
Are people still interested in buying wired controllers? I went out and bought 8 Bitdo controllers for retro systems because I just can't deal with cords anymore.
I'm waiting for the Zelda themed joycon D pad to come out this week on the 14th I think
Everything is chrome in the future!
WHY ARE THEY NOT MAKING COLORED TRANSLUCENT CONTROLLERS?!
I'm sure this question has an obvious answer, but could anyone tell me why the cord is removable? It doesn't have wireless capabilities, right?
@g_ruz probably to store more easily. I have the Zelda one (the black, not this animosity) and it is easier to keep controller and cable separated in the drawer.
@BitLounger I think basstop makes transparent plates for the official pro controllers and I'm pretty sure you just need to unscrew a few screws to switch the faceplates.
Yay, I cannot wait to rub all that chrome off when my hands get sweaty during intense game sessions.
No, I’ll stick with my pro controller. This would absolutely maximize the visibility of smudges and fingerprints. I’d end up developing an obsessive need to pause my game in order to clean my controller.
Ooooh....
Shiny Chrome Blue !
Love the Metroid controller, if these controllers were wireless and had all the functionality of the pro controller like the NFC and motion controls.,
I would so own that spectacular Metroid beauty ..
Sorry but I’ll never get a wired controller for the switch the console is waaaaay to light all it takes is one accidental tug and you’ll probably probably need to buy a new switch
Sure, I'd love a controller that lets me see each and every fingerprint.
Bloody horrible! Love my yoshi themed controller
Because sometimes we just want to look down at our controller to remind ourselves how gross and dirty we actually are.
@bignrules I just put my dock on the floor.
I would quite like a wired pro controller, but not a shiny one. Will at some point pick up one of the Hori ones. I can't bring myself to pay £50 for a wireless one, especially when it has a completely s**t d-pad.
Why do all these have to be wired?
Finger print magnet - no thank you!
@bignrules
LOL, yup, only wireless for me. I remember the 1989 incident when my step dad ran to the front living room window to watch the cops arrest someone and he tripped on my NES wires and sent the BES crashing into the wall and the TV fell off the entertainment center.
It was pretty damn amusing at the time but man, no NES and cable TV for a month until he got replacements.
Until Nintendo releases an official full featured d-pad joy-con and improved pro controller, I'm sticking with my joy-cons.
Oh, WIRELESS!
FoxData lives!
Reminds me of the shiny plastic used on the Power Rangers figures from the 1995 movie. A bit tacky, really.
"with an 10ft removable USB cable"
Right there guys. It says REMOVABLE usb cable. But I personally wouldn't go for this just because I'd feel compelled to keep it clean all the time 😂
If only these were wireless!
I wish these had rumble, because dang that Metroid one looks fantastic.
Want that Princess Peach. It looks so pretty
I was just thinking about buying a pro controller since our left joy con is acting up but I would most likely stick with the Nintendo Pro.
I do like the price of these though. The Metroid looks the best IMO.
I love the look and idea of these, but for the love of god can we please get new styled wireless pro controllers with a headset jack for when online comes out.!
I don't normally dig gold chrome like that but, this looks really good. May have to be the first PowerA I pick up.
I saw these at Walmart the other day. They look like butt
@setezerocinco @g_ruz might also be so that if the core breaks then one can easily swap just that and not the whole controller.
The only shinies I want are Pokemon.
Why would anyone want a controller that has been stripped down essential functions, restricted with a wire and made so cheap-looking. They are gonna look so bad when the shell cracs, also they might be quite the fingerprint-magnets.
@Beatley82 im kinda ocd especially with my electronics I couldn’t put it on the floor
@TurboTEF lol yeah same happened with my brother he tripped over the GameCube controller when I was playing Metroid prime I almost strangled him with the controller cable I was super pissed 😂
@molliolli182 @setezerocinco
Both good explanations--thank you! I clicked around on manufacturer's website, and they actually offer a few explanations: "Why wired? No batteries or charging to manage, reduced lag times while playing, and nearly half the cost of wireless! Plus, our cables detach for storage/display or if someone happens to trip." The tripping part seems a bit far-fetched; the Switch is really light, so I feel like it'd still go flying if someone tripped on the cord.
These controllers seem to be getting a lot of hate, but I may buy one as a spare for when I have friends over. The price is good, they look unique, and I'd rather not shell out $60+ for a nice controller if it won't get used often.
@TurboTEF
You can order official Nintendo joy cons that have had their shell swapped to include a d-pad on the left on eBay, or swap them yourself for only the cost of the shell. They are superb; nuts to that cheap hori d-pad featureless joy con
I went with atomic purple for the N64 nostalgia

@JHDK The cable is removable according to the article.
@g_ruz Yeah those are good points to go for a wireless. I still would pay extra for a wireless one, even tho it was for a spare when someone comes over to play. But that’s just me. Also I would pay extra for hd rumble and gyro and such.
And in my opinion the colorways still look cheap and ugly. I don’t wanna hate these controllers but I don’t really like them either.
I would not buy a wired controller for a modern system. Too bad because I think some of these look very cool..
