@PikminMarioKirby Totally agree with this. I still enjoy switch sports, especially in multiplayer, but it's just inferior to sports resort. I would've rather had a port of that game with online honestly.
@larryisaman On the topic of how Nintendo handles it compared to Sega, I would recommend the yt channel Moon Channel. He has great videos discussing how oth companies handle IP protection and why they do.
@WiltonRoots Yeah, this is one of the reasons I love how Nintendo develops games. As another example, when Retro was developing tropical freeze, they turned level design into a competition of who could come up with the craziest ideas. It's the things like that, and the lack of a deadline for Mario Wonder that make some of their games so great.
I would be super curious to learn how long some development cycles actually are. Like, Mario Wonder of course didn't take 11 years to make, but how long did it take? 4 years, 5 years? It would just be neat to know. But I'm very happy with how Nintendo is handling development currently. Expanding by hiring more employees, as well as the occasional smart studio purchase. Definitely the best way to make sure the switch 2 doesn't wind up being the switch u (Such a dumb line but IDC.)
DKJ math let's freaking go!!!!! But on a serious note, that's a huge game preservation win. Once again, NSO base tier continues to be absolutely ludicrous value. Now approaching 200 games for only 20 bucks a year. I'm strongly opposed to paid online services, but the value is clearly there.
Ai is a very tricky subject in relation to gaming. As Furukawa pointed out, games have used it for a long time. But I think drawing the line at no generative AI is the right call. Even ignoring the ethical side of things, both AI images and text don't compare to what a creative person can manage. So yeah, Nintendo actually does a good thing.
@abbyhitter yeah, Tantalus is a REALLY good port studio. I think most people really undersell the work they did on Skyward Sword HD. Same with this game.
Well, that's a little bit funny. Everybody being mad and saying it would flop, only for it to end up in first. I didnt really care how it was going to do, but that's just amusing.
TTYD is awesome, but I'm still playing through it. So I'd have to go with PoP the lost crown. Didn't actually play on switch but come on it's the same game anyway. It's basically like the devs looked at Metroid Dread and said "Bet." I'd be thrilled if AAA Metroidvanias continue to become more common.
@Elbow I loved the show for one simple reason. I have a rather stupid sense of humor. I love movies like spiderman 3 and revenge of the sith for the same reason. Things that have really dumb comedy work for me. Also, flames of disaster was the most wonderful TV episode I've ever seen. And I'm a pretty big sonic fan, but here's the thing with the Lack of source material accuracy. I prefer when adaptations do their own thing, instead of just copying what it's based on. So yeah, there you go. I mainly like it cause I'm stupid lol.
@AdolBannings-Laylee Hey, I don't care if you like their games. More power to you if you do. But you asked for what Ubisoft has done wrong for gaming, and I gave you the list. I defended them for much longer than others, but doing things like ripping games from people's digital libraries is indefinsible. I'm not saying you should boycott them, by all means play the games you enjoy. But I do think we should call out scumbag business tactics before they become normalized.
@AdolBannings-Laylee You wanna know what Ubisofts done wrong. Breathes deeply. Removing purchased games from digital libraries. $130 dollar "Deluxe editions" that are just made by ripping content from the base game and calling it a "bonus." Paid early access for games which is extremely scummy. Stating in an investors meeting that people should get used to no owning games. The entire debacle of skull and bones, which is somehow 70$ despite looking like a mobile game. And possibly their greatest crime of all, making the same bland open world games over and over, when they have so many talented devs. They have released great games like the Mario and rabbits games and POP: the lost crown. But instead of makin awesome games, they release the same slop over and over, most of which utilize the scumbag tactics above. Trust me, Ubisoft ain't a company to go up to bat for.
@GameOtaku Okay but no offense meant at all or anything, but most people have no problem accessing wifi at least once a week. And I do agree it would be awesome if games transfered, but it would become a slippery slope. They can't only transfer some games over and not others. (Even though I wish they could.)
@boxyguy This. The fact that so many people have accepted paying for online is crazy. It's just a scam from console manufacturers to milk money from people. Good thing nso is only 20$ a year for online, unlike Microsoft's scam of 120$ a year for online.
@GameOtaku I just wanted to say that you don't need an Internet connection to access the retro game libraries. You can play them on the go. And there would really be no feasible way to carry 3ds/wiiu digital purchases to switch. The consoles are just completely different.
Got the survey yesterday. Nso is honestly not a terrible deal, especially compared to Sony and Microsoft's online service. Like seriously, game pass core is a scam. But anyway, even with expansion pack, it's like 4 dollars a month. Which is pretty solid for the retro titles and dlc alone. EDIT. How did I forget about Tetris 99? I would pay 50$ a year for that game alone. I jest of course, but man is it awesome.
I mean, it's not ideal, but it's still a better value than the vast majority of 60$ releases. I mainly just feel for people in other regions where the price is less affordable.
@Folkloner Oh, it definitely does. But it's still wildly impressive that it works at all in the first place. The fact that's it's even recognizable as Mario 64 is insane.
Oh, I forgot about this game. Looks fun, but I still haven't played banana mania, so I'd probably play that first. Thanks for the review too. Really appreciate how clear the pros and cons are!
@Yoshif3 imma be honest. I disagree with your points. They have no validity. And it seems we will never agree. However, your sense of humor cracks me up. You seem alright in my book.
@Yoshif3 Oof. Seems I struck a nerve. While it is true the switch increases sales, the gap between sales numbers is absurd. The wii was very popular. The ds was more popular than the switch. And yet their Zelda game sales have been dwarfed by the new games.
@Yoshif3 "Killed what old fans loved about the series." Which is why botw and totk are the highest selling and most critically acclaimed games in the series. Yep, that logic checks out.
I feel like people are overreacting to what's been shown so far for the new game. It could 100 percent have linear dungeons and progression. We don't know yet. My guess is some echoes might be treated like key items. But that aside, it would be neat to see a new startropics, or just a new adventure game series from Nintendo in general.
@canaryfarmer True. I missed that part. Even still, calling it lazy seems a bit harsh. The platform listed for the review is still n64, not Switch. Good thing it is too, or else they'd probably have to give it a lower score for the subpar emulation. Oof, it's rough.
@canaryfarmer I mean, it's a review of the n64 version, not the switch version. When reviewing games that have been ported, it's really important to not mix up which version you're reviewing.
It looked awesome. I don't know what people saying otherwise were expecting. Prime remastered is already the best looking switch game imo. And this looks better. It isn't hyper realism, but Metroid really never has been. And we still haven't seen much. They've still got a year to show stuff for those who aren't sold yet. Everyone needs to chill out.
I'm just... So happy they did something. It's been 6 years since the tropical freeze port, and DKC felt forgotten. I've seen many people disappointed, but personally, I wasn't even expecting anything DK, so I will certainly take it.
@JimmyFleck Respect on the portal 2 take, but I would argue it earned its extra playtime with the constant introduction of new mechanics. Plus glados potato=funny.
