Fans of the Shantae series have no doubt been waiting with bated breath for WayForward to hurry up with development of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. The latest in WayForward's flagship series, Half-Genie Hero was Kickstarted three years ago and has been in the making ever since. Originally, the game was expected to arrive on 27th September, but it was subsequently delayed and we've been waiting ever since.
Fortunately, the wait will soon be over. WayForward just updated the Kickstarter again and explained that the game is finally 100% complete. It's been submitted to the various manufacturers and storefronts for approval, and a global release date is currently being worked out. While there's nothing to announce at the time regarding release, expect it to be in the very near future.
What do you think? Will you be picking this up? Do you think the wait will be worth it? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

about freaking time, hot dang.
this development took longer than freaking Nightmare No.9.
I really feel afraid the finished product won't be worth the wait.
I've got this pre-ordered and I can't wait to play it! I've loved all the other Shantae games so I'm confident it won't be a flop like Mighty No. 9!
It almost feels surreal to me.
@FinnTheWhovian Was it rated 12+?
I love Shantae: Risky's Revenge and Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, so I'll be picking this up when it goes on sale.
Well, I loved Shantae and The Pirate's Curse, and that was my first Shantae game. I'd consider getting this one down the road in time. I'm just really busy right now.
Finally some more news about this. I remember them announcing it´s launch was delayed about 6 weeks from it´s original planned September launch but it was still strange not to hear anything about this until now.
Hopefully WayForward can start working on Risky's Revenge Director's Cut on 3DS now. Very excited to play this one in the meantime, though.
Well, I loved Pirate's Curse so I'll definitely pick it up at launch. Not sure about on what console, though.
I'm glad it didn't make the Switch to Switch.
@FinnTheWhovian Hair whipping violence!
@allav866 Given that the original Risky's Revenge is already available for 3DS, and the Director's Cut is hardly a complete reinvention, I would personally prefer they started work on something new.
@CharlieSmile Don't worry, it'll be fantastic. WayForward always takes its sweet time making Shantae games, but they always end up really polished, high-quality platformers.
I'll be getting my copy for the PS4, but I hope it also releases for Switch at some point...
Uff, I was so worried when reading the title, that there will be
"...has been canceled".
Nice, just need a release date and we're good.
Man, my heart jumped when I saw the thumbnail, thinking we FINALLY had a release date. If this gets cancelled and moved to the Switch......I'll be pissed. Haha. My daughter and I have been waiting to play this forever. She is 6 and loves Shantae!
@CharlieSmile Nightmare No 9. LOL
You don't have to worry. Wayforward is EXTREMELY trustworthy. They don't make anything bad.
I funded this, and ordered the Wii U and Vita versions.
Will definitely pick up the inevitable Switch version too
Definitly picking this one up, and i prefer a delayed game than a broken one at launch... ;D
I don't think there's much chance (if any) of this game being outright bad. That said, what I've seen doesn't really grab me as much as the 2nd and 3rd games. I think the most likely outcome is that it'll be very good, but will have lost a few things that made the last two so charming.
Sweet! Picking it up for the WiiU for sure!
Pirate's Curse was pretty fun so I'll either pick up a physical copy of the Wii U version at some point or wait for a sale on Steam.
@allav866 Not a chance. They still will be on Half-Genie Hero for a while. They've got the other characters campaigns to make, and costumes, etc...
But YEAH! Finally. Hopefully we'll get it before December.
The last great WiiU game? Too bad it's not just coming to Switch...
I love the Shantae games, so I can't wait to play this. ^^
@invictus4000 That's not true AT ALL, they have made a lot of awful trash or really mediocre games, especially licensed games (movies, tv shows),like Adventure time explore the dungeon, The Smurf 2, Goosebumps the game, or that Silent Hill game for the Vita .However, their own games, like Shantae or Mighty, are always pretty good.
As somebody who owns all 3 of her previous games, can't wait!
I want this and Yooka Laylee so bad I'd kill for them. Please let me kill for them!
Physical version I may pick up.
@Zadaris Me too. I backed both of those...
