Idea Factory International has revealed that Mary Skelter 2 will receive a release on Nintendo Switch in North America and Europe.
The game is said to expand upon the core elements found in PS Vita title Mary Skelter: Nightmares, bringing "a world teeming with twists and turns" to Switch. It features a brand new battle feature where previous protagonist, Jack, is now a Nightmare who can be used to defeat enemies, but at a cost.
Expect to find plenty more "torturous" dungeon experiences, familiar faces from the first game, and all of the features listed below (screenshots are taken from the Japanese PS4 version):
Key Features
Don’t Go Chasing Nightmares – Each Jail has 3 desires that players will need to fill up to provide bonuses and satisfy the Jail’s mood. However, if the Jail’s mood worsens, players will notice a white mist, signifying that a Nightmare is near and ready to fight. If the Nightmare gets too close, players will enter “Nightmare Hunt” mode, where the Nightmare will chase you through the dungeon in real-time. Nightmares cannot be defeated unless players destroy the core of the dungeon. Otherwise, players will have to stun a Nightmare to escape!Jack is a Dull Boy – Jack, the protagonist from Mary Skelter: Nightmares, has now turned into Nightmare Jack. He can still help you along the way, but be wary of his heart rate meter! Once his heart rate reaches a certain limit, he will turn into Ripper Jack, causing him to go berserk. When in Ripper Jack mode, Otsuu also risks going into Blood Skelter mode, which will cause her to go berserk too! With first game, Mary Skelter: Nightmares included, you can play through an alternate world where Jack is the main protagonist.
Go Directly to Jail – Add another degree of difficulty by setting dungeon conditions like “no saves or heals” with the Jail Trial battle system. Successfully completing a Jail Trial provides better item drops and more experience! Want more special bonuses to help you through dungeons? By collecting Jail Pieces, players can add these items to a randomized roulette that can have beneficial results!
Farm for Blood, Reap The Benefits – Use Blood Crystals to plant Blood Flowers, which can be harvested for additional items. In a dungeon area where Blood Flowers are planted, splash them with Marchen Blood by performing a critical hit on enemies during battle to get even rarer items!
If you're new to the series, don't worry; Mary Skelter 2 will launch with a revamped version of the first game included, helping you to catch up on all your Mary Skelter needs. We'll keep an eye out for a release date.
Did you play the original on PS Vita? Does this sound like it could be your sort of game? Let us know in the comments.

Eye of the Beholder in anime style?
Gotta love it when the sequel goes and packs the first game (or its core campaign, anyway) into the same application. Happened with Dissidia 012, happened (well, to an extent) with Theatrythm, and lately I hear that even A.O.T. 2 on Switch reprises the plot of the first game I have been eyeing on Vita all along. In other news, this here looks like an animesque dungeon crawler with two games for the price of one and... how many characters in one battle in the screenshots? Damn, even Etrian Odyssey had five. Count me in.
I am interested. Sounds pretty creative.
Never heard of it, but... looks very much like Etrian Odyssey, comes to Switch AND with the previous game included? Count me in!
I have the original on vita and it was lots of fun I'll definitely be picking this up!
Looks good Yet another game to be added to my ever expanding wishlist
Could be interesting.
the cyclops monster with a grin for the right side of his face has me sold.
@CoOokie For anyone who is intrigued by this game, there's another called "Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk" that I think is quite a bit better that's already out on the Switch.
cool art style. Gameplay wise if its close to coven of dusk im in, (200h) except all the Japanese jibber jabber after each and every single fight....Well im still in, but ill be complaining.
>Get lured in by cute animu moe face
>See all this weird nightmare bs
This is how they get you.
What an oddly titled.... title. THAT being said, where do I get in line?
Already played the first game, it's a fun dungeon crawler. Definitely looking forward to play the sequel.
that creature is nightmare fuel!
The first image: Oh, it's one of those games
The rest of the images: Well that got dark real fast
Gimme Skelter
Nice! Day one for me.
There are some r*t*rds in a r*t*rds forum already complaining about that. You know which one.
@Pizzapasta I was just about to say that the game play reminded me of that game. lol
So far, i have not bought any of the available dungeon crawlers simply because i can't decide... now another one joins.
The Coven demo was fun, i wonder how this one will compare. Also, how is that Moero Chronicles game?
I heard Sony's censorship hit this pretty bad, effectively breaking the game in a patch via some mini-game that made 100% completion impossible. It's not surprising that they're not even bothering to localise it and instead giving the West a new Switch version.
@Orpheus79V Speaking of which, was there any confirmation that this game would be spared the censorship scissors since it's out of Snoy's jurisdiction?
As an Etrian Odyssey fan, I'm interested, but it depends how annoying the story/characters are and how easy that stuff is to skip. I tried that Labyrinth of Refrain demo but the characters annoyed the crap out of me.
I'm tentatively interested. The first Mary Skelter is an unbalanced mess on Steam.
@BRAINFOX Not that I'm aware of, but it seems conspicuous that they're not bringing it over on PS4.
@Pizzapasta I really enjoyed labyrinth of refrain too 😀
Hopefully this gets a physical............. if not then I really need to hunt down a cheap copy on the Vita for the first one because the damn price is going stupidly high for some reason like a limited run game. When it is not................ Had a chance to get it but I blew it.......
@BRAINFOX Nintendo stated multiple times during Twitter, interviews, and videos---they don't censor their games or third party games on Switch. They don't force censorship on anyone. Smash Bros was censored because Sakurai wanted it to be. He wanted it to have an E rating so that parents would know it's for everyone. If they didn't censor Smash, it would have had a T rating, and they didn't want that. Senran Kagura is uncensored on Switch, and that's way more lewd than Mary Skelter.
@Morrow Idea Factory is the one in charge of this one though. I doubt that they'd be censoring anything willingly, but there is the possibility that they might be stuck with the same version for both platforms depending on whether they were only obligated to make changes for the PS4 version (ex. DMCV lens flare) or stuck in some sort of parity clause (ex. Far Cry 4 maxed out on PC being stuck on par with the PS4 version).
@BRAINFOX the PS4 version of Mary Skelter 2 isn't coming to PS4 in the west. The switch version is uncensored.
Also, DMC5 doesnt have the flare on Xbox or PC. Just Ps4.
I was going to buy the 1st one, know I will just wait for it on the switch and get both.
