@romando “ There is room to improve even if they want to keep the hybrid design”

There really isn’t that much room to improve unless they dump ARM and go with a traditional x86 system that comes with it own pitfalls (heat, size, battery life
etc). Nintendo is using what is available to them. They aren’t dumping tons of money into ARM RND development to get the bleeding edge of tech cause the end user cost, and stock is not worth it

I was originally planning to pick this up day 1, but unfortunately life is getting in the way this month
Plan to fly home for Christmas to see the fam, and plane tickets came out to a cool $1k 😼‍💹

And I still have to get my kitty checked out at the vet to get him airplane/airport ready.

Great to hear that the port is great. And with time patches will make it even better.

I hope they eventually port Mirage to the system. It would interesting to see what a Mirage port would look like since that game has a smaller scale. So it wouldn’t need to be as scale back graphically.

@Medic_alert Games don't have to sell a massive amount to be a big classic. Bloodborne was never a massive sale success. But is easily regarded as their best title.

"BB runs horribly on PS4" It doesn't run bad. It has poor frame pacing which is systemic issue with all of Fromsoftware games which will probably have the same issue on Switch 2.

The game would mostly like gather negative comparisons from a visual and performance standpoint due to the fact Switch 2 cost more and is supposed to be stronger than the PS4, but given that they had to delay Elden Ring. Fromsoftware is already struggling with Switch 2 development.

@Medic_alert I’m glad they are doing something completely different and trying to test the waters on stuff. Glad Nintendo is also giving them the opportunity. We don’t need a “But we have bloodborne at home” ahh game for the Switch. Only thing that will do is draw comparisons to Bloodborne. That wouldn’t be good for the Switch due to potential of the game looking worse or on par with Bloodborne for PS4.

Re: Nintendo States Its Intention To Acquire More Development Teams

AverageGamer

@GgGames It not an argument. But Nintendo since Switch 2 release has put out Mario kart World, DK Banaza, Hryuld Warriors Age of imprisonment, Kirby Air Riders, Metroid Prime 4, Pokémon Legends ZA. Mix in the Switch 2 editions, Mario Galaxy 1&2, and wheelchair sports game
They have basically put out a new title every month. You cannot get faster than that before you end up having releases overlapping and people budgets dry up.

@edgar14 @UpsideDownRowlet Y’all may be too old to realize it
but he is not wrong. I’m definitely far from a casual gamer. I own a Switch 2, PS5, a highest end PC gaming, and multiple VR headsets with 1000s of games purchased between these platforms. But a lot of my time and other people around my age are spent doom scrolling. We do it at work, school, on the toilet, on the train, bus

These companies need us to stay engaged with their platform. Us buying a one or two game every couple months, finishing it in 7-8 hrs then moving on with our lives isn’t helping them.

They’re are probably looking at why am I doom scrolling on YouTube shorts every night right before bed instead of say playing my Switch 2 or streaming xCloud; or why did I spend my 1hrs lunch break doom scrolling instead of playing.

There is gonna eventually be a negative affect especially with younger kids who has been growing up with this short form content. You gonna run in issues like reduced attention span. They aren’t going to be interested in a lot of these long video games that require at

@Haruki_NLI Yet they bought Grounded and Pentiment to Switch. We had Tony hawk Pro skater this year. They announced both Indiana jones and Fallout.

Y’all are acting like the moment they announce support for a platforms
The flood gates just suddenly open and games just start magically appearing on the platform without consideration of the amount of time, money, effort, and endless corporate meetings it take to even determine if it possible and timely to port these games over. On top of the fact we’ve been hearing all year that it been impossible to get switch 2 dev kits.

@graviton "Look at Beast of Reincarnation"

That game is being made on UE5. I think Pokemon Snap was also made on UE. It take very low effort to make a good looking game in UE... But that also why Beast of Reincarnation performance looks so bad.

The mainline Pokemon games which is probably made on an internal inhouse engine which is probably the limiting factor in a lot of the low visual quality we seen with the pokemon games. It take a lot of time, money, and energy to get a game engine up to par, and keep it up to par.

@kal_el_07241 “ Guys... is this what it's like to have a platform fully supported now?? No Directs required??”

This is why Sony has more or less stopped doing them
We don’t need console direct for game announcements anymore. This is also why when Nintendo, Sony, or Xbox do hold directs. It extremely underwhelming. No publisher or studio wants to share the spotlight with 50 other games when they can just drop a video on YouTube and get the same amount of attention of not more.

@Bats1234 “ PokĂ©mon has a more casual fan base so I thought not many would get new console just for it.”

Pokémon does not even remotely have close to a casual fan base at all. I have coworkers in the my office that not just own 1, but 2 of every Switch Pokémon consoles bundles, owns 4 copies of every new generation game, bought both editions of ZA Switch 1 and 2, and hunts Pokémon cards
. My friend at work also only bought his Switch 2 for Pokémon. He has literally not touched anything else on the platform. Once that release, the Switch 2 will be back in box till gen 10
I also know 5 other people who also just bought a Switch 2 for ZA.

And while I may be more interested in play other games on Switch 2, ZA was literally 100% the reason o purchased the console.

@Pillowpants I wouldn’t even say the backlash is coming from a very loud minority of (toxic) fans
More like just very loud minority of toxic people. TBH most people I’ve seen complain about this haven’t touch the franchise in years
Asmongold has made 3 videos just trashing it, and he more or less admitted he hasn’t play a game in franchise in years. Too many people don’t realize that this isn’t a traditional mainline game and are trashing it cause it’s don’t have features found in mainline game from gold or silver 30 years ago.

This almost feels like spiritual successor to pokemon battle revolution in a lot of way.

@Varkster “ Also, a significant question here would be what is 'heavily compromised' to you? Outlaws is certainly not fitting that description for me by any means, I have had a 4080 PC and have the comparisons I can make side to side,”
Okay. You having a PC is impressive. I have a 4090, and currently have an 5090 in a box waiting to installed. I can make the same comparison on the same 4k TV since my PC is in the same room 5ft apart.
Outlaw has cut buck in:

  • Shadows are blurrier and blockier with hair and clothing lacking self shadows in cutscenes (granted this may been improved since I finished and there been a new patch)
  • The resolution of the RT reflections takes a hit compared to other system
  • RTGI is present but shows more noise in lighting coverage compared to Series S
  • Noise is present on all consoles but Switch 2 is more coarser than the others
  • Volumetric lighting and fog is cut back compared to other systems too
There also the cut back in geometry detail and NPC density.
Sure the RT in places look better than Series S
But that cause Nvidia’s RT is better than AMD.
“you think Space Marines 2 cannot release on Switch 2 and look visually outstanding“
I never said that it couldn’t look visually outstanding. Outlaws looks great even with it heavy compromises. I feel that if Space Marines 2 have to make cut back to swarm density then it wasn’t worth porting to Switch 2 as it ruins the main appeal of the game.

Re: Switch 2's First Warhammer 40,000 Game Isn't The One You Might Expect

@Varkster “there have been many techniques implemented in recent engines that allow developers to offload the CPU heavy tasks to the GPU”

Offloading CPU processing to the GPU due has generally tried to be a thing for the last two generations, and it has ultimate not has been as successful as you think it. The PS4 was supposed to be very big on this, and the CPU still ended up being the achilles heel for the system and that generation. Games has still ultimately been CPU bound as most tasked were still limited to the CPU.

“ Digital Foundry have openly stated that Outlaws will be insanely compromised, it will look and run awful and will not support ray tracing.”

Do you have any video examples of them saying this? Cause too many people often very much twist their words, or take the option of one person and say the entire DF team said that. So I don’t personally don’t trust what you have to say on this matter.

“ The only comparison to Series S I can think of from developers is Koei Tecmo, specifically their Nobunaga's Ambition studio, where they didn't even say they could confidently compare the console, which further adds to my point.”

That not even the biggest one, the biggest statement has been made by Virtuos.

Eoin O’ Grady, technical director at Virtuos subsidiary Black Shamrock: “Any game shipping at 60 FPS on the Series S should easily port to the Switch 2. Likewise, a 30 FPS Series S game that’s GPU-bound should also port well. Games with complex physics, animations, or other CPU-intensive elements might incur additional challenges in reaching 30 or 60 FPS or require extra optimization during porting.”

They have work on so many Switch port. They are almost a panic button level porting studio for the Switch. If there was any one I would believe. It would be someone from that studio as they probably already have switch 2 dev kit to assist with getting game ported.

And they have been absolutely correct on their statement. Switch 2 has seen nothing but cut back to 30FPS with games that run at 60FPS on Series S, and further optimization for games that run at 30FPS case in point outlaws. The two biggest ones cut back recently being FIFA and Dynasty Warriors. Dynasty Warriors is the good comparison to Space Marines: “The Switch 2 version will be fixed to 30 fps, and we are developing it with a priority on stable operations. It's good hardware, and if we reduced the number of soldiers to about the same amount as prior Warriors series entries, we could have gotten it running at 60 fps. Since this game will show a few thousands of characters, I think it would be better if you can play here with a stable 30 fps.”
Ultimately they are CPU bound.

Re: Switch 2's First Warhammer 40,000 Game Isn't The One You Might Expect

AverageGamer

@Varkster I never said porting games is as simple as runs on x means will or won't run on y. My comment supports your “ up to developers to optimize games properly to take advantage of it.” by the fact they have made a lot of optimization improvements since release. My comment was simply is it worth porting it if it gonna be heavily compromised aka massively cut down swarm counts.

“ Outlaws is a CPU heavy modern title and we know how that runs”

And Star Wars outlaw had to make a big cut back to NPC density and other CPU intensive things. And still had frame drops in certain places. But the difference is
Star Wars Outlaws NPC density isn’t it selling point. Space Marines selling point was swam density. Where can they make the cuts when a good base to start is already showing issues?

“ NL's own fault for featuring uneducated opinions from Digital Foundry and making janky comparisons themselves using the Series S to demo how games 'should look' if ported to Switch 2. It's simply not a valid comparison as a lot more goes into developing for different architecture”

First of all it not just NL and Digital foundry making these comments. Multiple very well known studios and PORTING studios have made these comparison to Series S. Even using the Series S as a baseline for porting.

It also not a matter of whether or not modern games can run on it
Hell, anything could have ran on the Switch if developers wanted it to. It a matter of “optimization” aka cut backs. One simple cut back has been cutting frame rate. A lot of game we have seen be 60FPS on the bigger consoles are now 30FPS on switch 2

Re: Switch 2's First Warhammer 40,000 Game Isn't The One You Might Expect

AverageGamer

@AStupidID Series S has a better CPU than the Switch 2, and the game is already capped at 30FPS and dynamic 1080P with a lot of cut back compared to the Series X/PS5. Sure they could probably get it running considering that they at least have made a lot improvements since release to at least get the game playable on a Steam Deck, but it going to be heavily compromised.

Re: Wolfenstein II Gets A New Physical Edition For Switch Full Of Tat

AverageGamer

@Arawn93 Switch 1 cart prices have fallen due the manufacturing switching over the Switch 2... So it basically a fire sale to get rid of what stock is left over,

The New Order wasn't ported over most likely due it using ID Tech 5, and id Tech 5 has a big reliance on a massive "MegaTexture" technology, which not optimized for the Switch's hardware and no support for Switch's low-level Nvidia graphics API. I think Id tech 6 (Doom (2016), Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and youngblood) also use mega texture, but they have massive improved it, but they also used a different system for Switch. id Tech 7 (Doom Eternal, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle) got rid of mega textures tho.

@OldGamer999 Nintendo would have had to push the system almost to match Xbox Series X in dock mode to get 60FPS in this games
Series S doesn’t have a 60FPS mode in this games, and is locked to 30FPS while having worse visual than PS5/Series X in their performance mode s which is already a big visual hit from their Quality mode. 60FPS is just not a reasonable ask on a handheld. 40FPS would have been goated tho.
