And by the way, Doom is fantastic..a few sound bugs for sure but to take that level of a FPS on the road with me or into the can, it's just unbelievable.
I need more Steamworld Dig, bring the first game to Switch and some DLC for the 2nd game or a 3rd brand new game and bring it in 2018, strike while the irons hot.
@carlos82 Exactly, the Switch has a F-Ton of games already. Almost none of which I would call weak cheap cell-phone type games. To be fair some Cell-phone games are console quality anyway. I mean Witness is on the iOS store. Oxenfree...I can go on and on. All excellent games..
By this time next year anyone who had any fears should be quite relieved IMO. Remember, FINAL Switch hardware was not in the developers hands until November/December 2016. Yes they had earlier dev units that weren't as powerful IIRC and even that was only 4-6 months earlier.
I loved Nam 75. damn I remember buying that Neo Geo for 600 bucks and then also springing 200 bucks a piece for the games. Good times, thank God we were painting fools back then and the money was flowing in like wine.
I wonder if the system being hacked so thoroughly has anything to do with this? I think you can play a bunch of different emulators on this system now relatively easily. Or maybe they don't want to flood the market with the 3DS/2DS and this system while also trying to get the Switch to be a big seller. You know Nintendo, maybe they think this will be too confusing for the casual gamer.
Still makes me wonder what Nvidia's team was doing during those 500 man years of work on the Switch's hardware. I choose to believe the Foxconn leak, the guy nailed a lot of stuff. Hey games are all going to look great and if the Foxconn guy is right, even if it is the X1 chip they are also working on a device that will someday in the near future add power and ram to the basic Switch console. The hardware numbers do matter if you want the better developers 3rd party ports in 2018 and beyond.
@Windy I am also 50+ and I have all the consoles except the Wii U lol. Gaming is in my blood, I just love technology. I preordered the Switch and Zelda.
@idrawrobots Agreed, I find it hard to believe they won't put out a true replacement for the 3DS down the road even if the Switch is a hit. They would love to once again have 2 pieces of successful hardware making them money. And if the Switch fails to sell a lot of units the follow-up to the 3DS is practically a guarantee. No way do they give up on the handheld universe which they rule in a big way ever since the Gameboy.
The thing is, and he doesn't think this is true I guess, Borderlands 3 would look just fine on a big screen tv with the Switch as the console. It may have a few less bells and whistles but unless Nintendo and Nvidia really really cheaped out on the GPU it should be fine especially since now Nintendo is finally using the correct architecture and libraries that all the other consoles use.
It may have "needed to be 299.99 in NA" but it should have been 249.99 since your 2 biggest competitors will both have their consoles available at that price and even 199.99 during the fall holiday drive. I already have bought an XB1 and a PS4 in the last 2 months and one cost me 229.00 the other was 249.99 and both will now have more expensive versions available as well that will help shrink the price of the normal versions of those consoles. Parents walking into a store, seeing the massive catalog of games available for the 2 name brand yet cheapers consoles are going to have a hard time picking up the Switch over those 2 cheaper systems. Hopefully Nintendo will realize this and do some sort of bundle deal at 299.
Just a word on the graphics, the leak that supposedly came from a Foxconn employee was dead on with quite a great deal of stuff. Including the joycons, the ports in the back of the machine, USB-C, the 4GB of ram, the battery information, the dual color joycons, the ram speed etc. That leak nailed it all a month ago. In that leak he also said that the specs of the machine are much better than what Eurogamer has stated. Go here for more details but it would seem the power of the Switch is indeed a bit closer to what the XB1 is than the Wii U. I mean even with the Eurogamer specs the machine is still 3 times the Wii U in sheer power when docked but not nearly an XB1.
@Kosmo Did you just say the Switch operates at the PS4's level of graphics? For me even Wii U's graphics in most games were fine but to say it is on the level of the PS4 is laughable.
I won't be shocked if I can't get one for a month or two, I still absolutely never see that NES classic system in any stores. It is beyond ridiculous, par for the course for Nintendo for whatever reason. These artificial shortages are annoying.
@DanteSolablood The Gamepad is so expensive the Wii U will never be a cheap item unless you get it used on eBay after the Switch comes out and people want to unload theirs cheap.
@leo13 There is literally no chance the Switch sells for more than 249.99 or 299.99 with a game. Anything more than that would be suicide especially with the system releasing without Zelda being ready to go (supposedly)
I'll be buying it either way but if they cheaped out and the console while docked is not even remotely close to XB1 then they will get the disaster they asked for. It will probably struggle to do even Wii U numbers if this is yet another Nintendo console that is too under-powered to get 3rd party developers interested.
@IceClimbers Pascal will feature 4X the mixed precision performance, 2X the performance per watt, 2.7X memory capacity & 3X the bandwidth of Maxwell. Nvidia’s CEO went on to state that all in all Pascal is Maxwell times ten. All of this has just been revealed here at GTC. There’s a lot to digest here, so let’s break it down. ~ Nvidia in late 2015
People talk about an SNES version of this, well I got news for you. I would bet real money more NES versions with different games will also be hitting the stores in the not so distant future.
The difference with this system for 3rd parties is they already know Nintendo has a large handheld user base. There is less risk supporting a Nintendo home console when the game can also be played on the go. Also if the rumors are true and it is more powerful than an XB1 but not as powerful as the S version then it will be easy to port games to it. I will own it day 1...
@arojilla Literally everywhere I go I see people with tablets in their hands. And this is a pretty small "tablet". Go look at the video again and watch when those guys are surrounding the table with 2 switch tablets on the table. They look pretty damn small. The 3DS XL is not really all that portable either. It is already a day one purchase for me but what would really throw it over the top would be the touch screen and some normal tablet functions. This thing is probably the main reason for no follow-up to the Shield tablet, I would like to think some of that reasoning will show up in more features then we are imagining right now.
Can't wait to be honest. I love the idea of using it both home and on the road. 3rd party support will be huge if the handheld aspect of the system holds up well. Nintendo has never had problems with 3rd party support for their handheld devices. I hope it does in fact replace both the Wii U and the 3DS as that will allow Nintendo to focus on one system which should surely mean more releases and no 1st party game droughts.
@rjejr IMO the NX will play Wii U games, but only digitally. It most likely won't have an optical disc mechanism. It makes perfect sense. Now they can offer Wii U compatibility and sell those games on the store but disc owners will be out of luck and have to buy the digital version if they want to still play the game and no longer have a Wii U. Nintendo loves reselling you games that you already own in one fashion or another. IDD with you on the 199.99 price, if I really think about it for someone coming in brand new to the system there is a decent amount of content to be played especially if you sink money into the old system roms. Playing on that gamepad is pretty sweet and that pad is most probably the reason they can't really sell the system for a low price. Most likely it will just end up going out of production once the number of system buys gets to the pathetic levels.
@rjejr Seriously it is a complete joke that they are still selling the system at that price. I wouldn't pay a dime over 199.00 for it and even that is to high considering it is a dead in the water system.
How are the console versions? I played the iOS version and the main characters movement just felt very "floaty" to me. Also I didn't get a very satisfying feeling when striking something, the collision detection seemed a bit off at times.
@TruenoGT 100 percent correct, as I mentioned in another story thread it amazes me that the Wii U is still priced as if it is a top selling console and not maybe the worst selling console in Nintendo's history. That damn thing should be selling at 179.99 or so instead of 300 brand new. It is literally insane to be selling it at that price so close to the end of it's life span.
What I find most funny is on a whim I go to Gamestop and check out the prices for the Wii U, both new and used and it is still way overpriced for a console that is about to go out of production. The damn thing should be selling for 199.99 brand new and 169.99 used at the very most. Nintendo is terrible at lowering the prices on their consoles, how can you with a straight face still ask 300 bucks for a Wii U these days?
I was playing the NES Punchout and quite a few times mac didn't respond when using the circle pad to get him to go left to avoid being hit. It happened quite a bit throughout the game, has anyone else noticed that at all or is it my 3DS acting weird?
This is what you get when you make under-powered consoles with gimmicky controllers. Don't get me wrong, I loved both the Wii and the Wii U and both controllers but you would be blind to not see how difficult it would be to port 3rd party games from the more powerful, normally controller based consoles to Nintendo's crazy under-powered console.
I love Nintendo and since I own all the consoles I really like the fact that they do different things than Microsoft and Sony did with their systems. I love the Wii U controller and I really liked the Wii except for when they tried to force the waggle where it didn't fit. Having said that these innovative controller ideas added to weaker hardware pretty much make their console a 1st party only system for the most part. Yes they get some 3rd party support but not nearly enough and since most people don't own 3 consoles I can understand why Nintendo would not be their first choice.
