I didn’t care much for the “school simulation” stuff and wanted a more traditional game. This seems to be what I was asking for so I’ll pick this one up in a month or so when I finish a few more games from my backlog.
Love the game but they butchered the launch. Kind of weird they’re announcing this update about a month and a half in advance.
My guess is fixes for major glitches, like seeing through the ground, and Pokémon Home support. Maybe they’ll give us DLC but GameFreak always likes to throw curveballs at us so who knows what they’ll do.
Breath of the Wild and Age of Calamity. I never actually played through my copy of the latter so it’ll be a good time to do so to get the complete story.
Fire Emblem, Kirby, and Zelda are enough to make the first half of the year a banger. Anything else Nintendo announces will just be a bonus.
For the second half, I’m expecting Pikmin 4 and a few smaller things… like maybe a new Mario Party, Mario Baseball, another basic 2D Pokémon by ILCA, who knows haha. Metroid Prime 4 I’m hoping is the big holiday title.
I’m away from my place at my family’s for the weekend. I brought my Switch to play when everyone else goes to bed but I probably won’t have much time. That said, I’ll be playing my 2nd playthrough of Brilliant Diamond and Fall Guys.
As someone who really likes Nintendo Switch Sports and thought it was vastly over-hatted… even I have to admit it takes way too long to unlock the weekly costumes.
Basically 3+ hours minimum of playing exclusively online, which is pretty lame considering the game comes with barely any cosmetics to begin with. It’s even worse when you’re playing bowling and golf (the two best sports imo) and you have to wait sometimes full minutes just for random people to finish their frame or hole.
1. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond 2. Pokémon Scarlet 3. N64 Online App
Legends Arceus has the same amount of play hours as the N64 app for me on my Switch so it had to be a close battle for third. And yes, I love the Pokémon titles on Switch. Let’s Go Pikachu and Sword weren’t my cup of tea but the past three really hooked me.
Looks good but I agree the cow should retain the original chunky aesthetic. I’ve only played the remake of Friends of Mineral Town so I’m not sure how the cows looked in the original Wonderful Life game but the art style seems off a bit with the more realistic animals. The realistic animals would look good if the game was on more powerful hardware and if the rest of the game looked super realistic… but neither is the case. It looks fine but not as good or fun as it should.
As someone who enjoyed my time with this game, I still agree it was underwhelming and super light of content. What a shame, too. If the online was done better, there were a couple more things to do in single-player, and there were as many characters/stages as there were in Charged for the Wii this would have been a huge success.
Instead we got what is basically shallow recreation of the GameCube version with this awful content drip feed.
I always wanted a true Wind Waker 2. Same world but expanded with new dungeons. I know that wouldn’t make a ton of sense considering how the original ended but, hey, they could think of a fun story.
Also, I’m aware that Phantom Hourglass is TECHNICALLY the sequel to Wind Waker… but let’s be real, it’s not. It felt like a marketing stunt to get people to buy the new weird looking Zelda on the DS. I was super disappointed playing that and it felt like it had 0 connection other than a minor shoutout at the opening.
I always go into the Game Awards expecting nothing. There’s usually not much revealed. Same with this year, but for what it was, I’d say it was a decent list of announcements. For the Switch, my favorite reveal was probably EarthBlade but none of the games really got me super excited.
I should mention that I haven’t played Hades yet. It’s on my bucket list lol.
Not that it matters since I don’t buy Pokémon cards but the new borders look fine. It would have been cool if every new generation they changed the borders.
I’m definitely going to love this for when I play online myself as it just made the game slower paced. When I’m playing locally with my friends, though, we might miss the old way since we like the game to be as ruthless as possible haha.
They could just release the 360 games running at 60fps and they would probably sell super well. Either that or take the time to optimize a new/original games for the Switch. Regardless, I’m looking forward to it.
I liked the entire course assortment. I will say, Rock Rock Mountain stuck out like a sore thumb visually. It looks like a beta GameCube game upscaled to HD. The track itself is a fun remake, thankfully.
The biggest disappointment for me was Maple Treeway. It's still a ton of fun but a lot of the flair and verticalness of the Wii and 3DS versions is gone. Plus the music is nerfed hard. I guess it's just like the other Wii courses in the booster pass lol.
@Goofonzo You can get Pirate’s: All Aboard for free by signing up for the newsletter… but after seeing some of the games it might not even be worth the time lol
I’ll be playing the Mario Kart tracks day 1. Sports Story and Outbound Ghost I’m planning to pick up sometime next year. I have too many games on my plate this holiday season lol.
The technical bugs and glitches are inexcusable but from a design standpoint, this is potentially my favorite Pokémon game to date. The exploration, amount of objectives, and freedom to do anything in any order has been incredible. Plus I really like mosr of the new designs.
That said, GameFreak best put out an update to address the issues. It hasn’t ruined the experience for me but it has made it a bit less enjoyable.
Memes aside I’ve enjoyed the rounds I’ve played so far, especially the online knockout mode. I just wish there were more holes so we could have at least two full 18-hole courses.
Been doing a lot of yard work and I’m gonna help my brother out with the Christmas lights but once I’m done, I’m just bundling up, getting some food a few drinks, and gaming tonight.
Pokémon Scarlet is what I’ll be playing. I stayed up super late last night as I got really into the world and I think I’m about two thirds of the way through the game. Im not in any rush but the story, mainly the path of legends, is just very entertaining to progress through.
Aside from that, I might play a bit of NBA 2K, MW2, and Fall Guys on my Series X. Happy gaming everyone!
Agreed, seeing that box gives me Wii-generation vibes and I love it. I’d love to see another motion-controlled party game from Nintendo, just make sure it has more content lol.
An amazing game that runs like trash. Another 3-6 months of optimizing the game with another team or something could have made this one of the best switch titles. Instead… well, I still think it’s great but it’s just sucks to think how much better it could have been.
I was 15 when the Wii U came out. Me and a couple close friends picked it up despite everyone else not even knowing about its existence. Playing Nintendo Land with a group of friends is probably my favorite experience with a new system.
Nintendo Land is hands down the best if you have any interest in local multiplayer fun.
I’d say Batman Arkham City is right behind it with New Super Mario Bros. U coming close. Also, shoutout to Sonic Racing Transformed. That is the only kart racer that can compete with Mario Kart for me.
Pokémon Scarlet for me. I know reviews say the performance is really bad but I’m going in expecting that. I just want to run around a fun new Pokémon game and I like everything I’ve seen so far.
When I’ve known about a game for years and it’s still months off, it’s hard for me to be excited about it.
Tears of the Kingdom will undoubtedly be the better game and I’ll probably enjoy it more. That said, I’m more excited for Pokémon because it hasn’t been an enigma for so long and, of course, it’s releasing this Friday.
I'm not going to deny the lack of content, but if you like arcade sports titles and have buddies to play local or online multiplayer with, it's still a really good time.
Pretty close for me but I think I’d give the slight edge to Horizons for the insane customization and the fact that I can play it on a TV. I can see why New Leaf can be favored as it didn’t omit any previous features and had more engaging villager interactions.
Ah, I remember wanting to get The Simpson’s Hit and Run on the GameCube with the money I saved up back in grade school and my parents wouldn’t let me due to the age rating. I’ll order a copy online sometime lol.
I also remember playing The Simpson’s Game on the XBOX 360 a lot at my neighbor’s house when that came out. It was actually a lot of fun in co-op, although I was 10 years old playing it.
I’ll probably pick it up in a few months once it’s a bit cheaper. Seems really good but I’ve been super busy plus have a lot of other games I want to play.
If they could get Modern Warfare Remastered at 60fps on the Switch with gyro-aiming then I’d actually consider it. It would be interesting to see what they do… unless it’s just a Warzone port. I don’t like Warzone and it would likely run awful on the Switch lol.
Yes, most of the Wii U’s best games have either re-released or had better iterations on the Switch. Here are my personal top picks for the system that aren’t on (or better) Switch:
Nintendo Land: still one of the best local multiplayer games of all-time and there are some fun single-player games in there as well.
Wii Sports Club: Just a modified HD version of the original Wii Sports. Still very fun even if Resort is better.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse: really cool follow up to Canvas Curse, nothing incredible but still very fun and worth playing.
Wind Waker + Twilight Princess: Great HD remasters of two of the best video games of all-time.
Pushmo World: a forgotten series but an awesome title on the Wii U eShop.
Yoshi’s Woolly World: Also on the 3DS but the Wii U version looks beautiful in HD. Easily the best version of debatably the best Yoshi game.
NES Remix: Fun title that I believe also made it’s way to the 3DS.
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: Also on the 3DS but c’mon, playing the game with a regular controller with HD visuals is obviously the way to go.
Looks good to me. It’s also a good thing most modern TVs have good up-scaling and sharpening sliders. Yoshi’s Crafted World is able to look good on my TV by raising the sharpness a bit. With how low of a resolution that game has, Sparks of Hope should look great. Very excited to pick this up, just gonna wait for a sale.
Mario Party 6 and 2 are probably my favorites… but man most of the original Hudson Soft developed titles are amazing.
Mario Party Superstars is the first game in the series that I think is fantastic since Mario Party 8 and DS so that’s a close one too, especially with the HD visuals and QoL enhancements.
Absolutely loved the first game and I’m glad this one turned out well. It’s a shame the difficulty isn’t nearly as brutal even on the highest setting but I’m sure it’ll be a ton of fun nonetheless. That said… it’s a Ubisoft game that’ll inevitably drop to $20-$30 in a few months so I’ll wait for a sale.

Re: Feature: Fire Emblem Narratives, Ranked – Which Fire Emblem Has The Best Story?
I’ve played Sacred Stones, Awakening, and Three Houses. Of that trio, my favorite story-wise was Sacred Stones, although Awakening was a close second.
Three Houses was good but I’m glad Engage is going for a more traditional story-progression experience.

Re: Nintendo Download: 29th December (North America)
I’ll snag Sports Story sometime early next year. Too much to play for now!
Re: Best Of 2022: How's Your Switch Holding Up After 5 Years?
My Animal Crossing Switch is holding up great, and somehow I’ve never had to deal with joycon drift on any of my 8 joycon (knock on wood).
I have no reason to upgrade unless there truly is a more powerful variant or system coming.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (December 24th)
I’m away from my place at my family’s for the weekend. I brought my Switch to play when everyone else goes to bed but I probably won’t have much time. That said, I’ll be playing my 2nd playthrough of Brilliant Diamond and Fall Guys.
Happy holidays, everyone!

Everyone here talking about how mediocre this game is but I’m just having fun playing some motion controlled golf lol.

Re: Soapbox: After 10 Years I'm Finally Getting A Wii U, But Where Should I Start?
Yes, most of the Wii U’s best games have either re-released or had better iterations on the Switch. Here are my personal top picks for the system that aren’t on (or better) Switch:
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bayonetta 3
Awesome to see it do so well. I intentionally ignored all the voice acting controversy so I’m excited for it.
Man, between this, Mario + Rabbids, and Persona 5 all being reviewed insanely well… I’m going to be busy this November and December haha.
Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Frame Rate And Resolution Detailed
Looks good to me. It’s also a good thing most modern TVs have good up-scaling and sharpening sliders. Yoshi’s Crafted World is able to look good on my TV by raising the sharpness a bit. With how low of a resolution that game has, Sparks of Hope should look great. Very excited to pick this up, just gonna wait for a sale.
Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Party Game?
Mario Party 6 and 2 are probably my favorites… but man most of the original Hudson Soft developed titles are amazing.
Mario Party Superstars is the first game in the series that I think is fantastic since Mario Party 8 and DS so that’s a close one too, especially with the HD visuals and QoL enhancements.
Re: Review: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope - Creativity Trumps Challenge In This Delightful, Divergent Sequel
Re: Review: Persona 5 Royal - Finally On Switch, This Is The Very Definition Of Essential
I’ll be playing this on my Series X once I finish moving in at the end of the month. Glad the Switch version turned out great!
