Re: Soapbox: After 10 Years I'm Finally Getting A Wii U, But Where Should I Start?

Altaria_97

Yes, most of the Wii U’s best games have either re-released or had better iterations on the Switch. Here are my personal top picks for the system that aren’t on (or better) Switch:

  • Nintendo Land: still one of the best local multiplayer games of all-time and there are some fun single-player games in there as well.
  • Wii Sports Club: Just a modified HD version of the original Wii Sports. Still very fun even if Resort is better.
  • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse: really cool follow up to Canvas Curse, nothing incredible but still very fun and worth playing.
  • Wind Waker + Twilight Princess: Great HD remasters of two of the best video games of all-time.
  • Pushmo World: a forgotten series but an awesome title on the Wii U eShop.
  • Yoshi’s Woolly World: Also on the 3DS but the Wii U version looks beautiful in HD. Easily the best version of debatably the best Yoshi game.
  • NES Remix: Fun title that I believe also made it’s way to the 3DS.
  • Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: Also on the 3DS but c’mon, playing the game with a regular controller with HD visuals is obviously the way to go.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Bayonetta 3

Altaria_97

Awesome to see it do so well. I intentionally ignored all the voice acting controversy so I’m excited for it.

Man, between this, Mario + Rabbids, and Persona 5 all being reviewed insanely well… I’m going to be busy this November and December haha.

Re: Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Frame Rate And Resolution Detailed

Altaria_97

Looks good to me. It’s also a good thing most modern TVs have good up-scaling and sharpening sliders. Yoshi’s Crafted World is able to look good on my TV by raising the sharpness a bit. With how low of a resolution that game has, Sparks of Hope should look great. Very excited to pick this up, just gonna wait for a sale.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Mario Party Game?

Altaria_97

Mario Party 6 and 2 are probably my favorites… but man most of the original Hudson Soft developed titles are amazing.

Mario Party Superstars is the first game in the series that I think is fantastic since Mario Party 8 and DS so that’s a close one too, especially with the HD visuals and QoL enhancements.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Worst Game That You Still Love For Some Reason?

Altaria_97

I heard you out and I still don’t understand the Bioshock pick. Everyone I know the played it loved it and heard nothing but great things from critics.

That said… I have a few games I love despite knowing they’re mediocre. I loved Crash Bandicoot Purple and Spyro Orange when I was a kid. Replayed them a few years ago and still enjoyed it… probably nostalgia but I had a lot of fun.

Oh, I also really enjoyed Yoshi’s New Island. Some of the music is… absolutely terrible. But minus that it was a fun return to traditional Yoshi’s Island gameplay.

Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should You Play First?

Altaria_97

If I’m recommending a first Zelda to an experienced gamer, I’d say Ocarina of Time or A Link to the Past.

For someone that doesn’t play many games, I’d say a more approachable title like the remakes of Skyward Sword or Link’s Awakening on Switch. Heck, even Minish Cap if you can snag that.

There aren’t many bad places to start. It’s a great franchise… I just wouldn’t start with the DS titles 😂

Re: Review: Splatoon 3 - The Pinnacle Of The Series And Switch's Slickest Shooter

Altaria_97

Good review. I’m glad it turned out well despite me not being super hyped for it. I’m very happy you can que up with friends on the same team now and skip the intro at the start of the game. Also thank goodness Salmon run is not only better, but available at anytime.

That said, I’m really bummed the stage rotation is still here. It made the game feel a lot more repetitive to me. I think I’ll stick with Splatoon 2 for the time being but I can see myself picking up 3 down the road when more content is added and it goes on sale.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel #111 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles In Time

Altaria_97

NA/Europe hands down. While the JP box art looks more accurate to the cartoon, it doesn’t help convey what the product is. It just looks like stock TMNT art that could be on anything, like a cereal box or something.

The NA/Europe art is unique and actually does a good job at showing consumers that this isn’t just TNMT, it’s TNMT Turtles in Time… a badass time-traveling brawler.

Re: Talking Point: What Was Your First Legend Of Zelda Game?

Altaria_97

I’m fortunate to have two older brothers so I grew up watching them play Ocarina of Time. I eventually watched my one brother play Wind Waker as well.

The first Zelda game I played through myself was Wind Waker. Loved it so much that I went back and played Ocarina. They’re two of my favorite games to this day.

Re: Unlike FIFA, Switch Gamers Are Getting The Newest Mode In NBA 2K23

Altaria_97

Pretty cool to see the Jordan challenges back. That said, this years game isn’t doing much for me despite me being invested in the NBA. It doesn’t look like there’s anything really new this year outside of those challenges. The gameplay seems the same, the MyCareer mode seems the same whether you’re on current or next gen, and everything 2K has shown so far looks pretty identical.

Last year they at least revamped the shooting mechanics, improved defense, and added the really cool cruise location for MyCareer. It actually felt like a worthwhile upgrade. This year they haven’t shown a single reason for me to pick it up outside of the Jordan challenges. As of now, I’ll just stick to 2K22 and download an updated roster for MyLeague.

Re: Kirby's Dream Buffet Rolls Out Worldwide Release Date

Altaria_97

I might pick it up. I think it’s a huge missed opportunity to not include 4-player local play as that would have been an insanely fun local-multiplayer game. My guess is the Switch couldn’t handle it without nuking the visuals or frame rate, at least in the split-screen races. Online same-system co-op is the only thing making me consider it now as it does seem like it could be a lot of fun.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - An Epic, Emotionally-Charged Masterpiece

Altaria_97

Really glad this turned out well as I liked everything I’ve seen leading up to it. Unfortunately I’m waiting a bit to pick this up. I won’t have much time for gaming for a while and I have a huge back log even when I do play. I think I’ll wait to buy this for the fall/holiday season. This and Pokémon will keep me occupied for a good while!

Re: Kirby's Dream Buffet Announced For Switch, Looks A Lot Like Fall Guys

Altaria_97

I’m really hoping this has 4-player local-play. The official website uses an asterisk to say 4-player is online only but it also says single system (1-4) under multiplayer… perhaps it depends the mode you play?

If you can play the main game locally then this could be an amazing party game. Don’t let me down Nintendo (they will probs lol).
