The release of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is just around the corner, and while we've already seen a lot of reviews, one detail that's not yet been properly looked at is the new game's frame rate and resolution on the Switch.
Fortunately, a new video by YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits has decided to take a closer look at the game. So, what are the results? In docked mode, the game runs at 30fps with a resolution of 900p. As for handheld, Sparks of Hope runs at a relatively consistent 30fps and a resolution of about 612p.
According to Digital Foundry, the original Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle game had a resolution of 900p in docked mode. The handheld mode ran at around 600p and the frame rate was a mostly stable 30fps across both modes.

900p? 30fps???? Caca. I won’t play anything less than 8k 360fps
I'm really looking forward to this one. The first game was the biggest surprise. The game is so good, can't wait to try the second one.
Looks good to me. It’s also a good thing most modern TVs have good up-scaling and sharpening sliders. Yoshi’s Crafted World is able to look good on my TV by raising the sharpness a bit. With how low of a resolution that game has, Sparks of Hope should look great. Very excited to pick this up, just gonna wait for a sale.
Framerate? You guys are worried about framerate in a Mario game? First of of all it's Nintendo. I'm pretty sure when it comes to their first party games they've got this and secondly it's an RPG not some high octane action game. For Christs sake just play the game!
I Don't recall anyone asking about the framerate of super Mario world.
612p on top of Ubisofts OTT fuzzy AA means I'll wait for switch 2. First game gave me a migraine. Have plenty to keep me going for couple of years
@Truegamer79 Nintendo is often very good about keeping consistent framerate in their games. Heck, they were basically the only ones prioritizing it on the Wii when everyone else was doubling down on visuals when transitioning into HD.
Mario is basically the staple of 60 fps, and in particular, has been very focused on 60 FPS since the Wii. Galaxy, 3D World, and Odyssey are all a very stable 60 fps.
Now, I'm not picky about a turn based game like this being 30. But there's no need to throw all that legacy under the bus.
@Seacliff @Truegamer79 You guys know that this is a Ubisoft game, right?
@Truegamer79 framerate is actually very important in a platforming game. That's why almost every Super Mario game runs at 60 besides 64 and Sunshine, which are earlier 3d games so they get a pass. Trust me if Mario World somehow ran at 30 fps you would notice. But yeah I agree it doesn't matter in an rpg too much.
@Truegamer79
It does mess a bit with the art style of a game if there is a lower frame rate. For example, Bowser's Fury looked oddly inconsistent compared to base game 3D World and games like Odyssey or Galaxy, because it runs at 30fps and not 60fps
@Truegamer79
> I Don't recall anyone asking about the framerate of super Mario world.
Yes, because it ran at 60 fps. Framerate is absolutely crucial to the feel and playability of platformers and the core Mario games.
Looks good to me, I imagine this will look really nice on the OLED. Can't wait for Thursday.
I love how everyone on PushSquare right now is losing their mind over games not running at a perfect native 4k 60 fps, but over here on Nintendo Life most people could not give the slightest eff about that.
@larryisaman I like your ambition 😂
First game was a pleasant surprise, can’t wait for more challenges..
I’m happy with that and it will still look good enough on my 65” OLED as it up scales very well.
There is a but though, it is getting near time when we could do with Nintendo games giving us some graphical wow and moving forward some what.
The Switch is 6 year old tech very soon and it really is starting to show.
@Sequel And you think Ubisoft will update this once the Switch 2 comes around?
Good point. I'll just play it on steam deck.
@HotGoomba seems they all forgot Ubi made this.
And that is the main reason why checking the performance is important.
@ModdedInkling no, only in portable mode. Docked is still 60fps, even if less consistent than the base game.
@B_Lindz Cause Switch didn't cost $500-600. When you got nothing to play. Performance becomes the only thing you can use to ustify your purchase.
900p 30fps. It’s 2022. These games should be 1080p 60fps. Is it playable sure. Should there be a switch pro or switch 2…. Yes.
@Truegamer79 Odyssey at 60 fps feels great. Galaxy on 3d all stars is also 60. Sunshine on the same collection is 30 and feels horrible because of it.
This is not a platformer though, so 30 might be passable for some. The art direction and flow of the game was designed with it in mind. In the first Mario Rabbids this worked more than fine.
They've pushed the performance and graphics as far as they could without it having an impact on gameplay.
Stable 30FPS is just fine for a game like this. I’m happy they chose to go with 30FPS with extra graphical bells and whistles than 60 without, for this type of game - repeat - for this type of game.
@sixrings but there will always be a balance between the two. It doesn’t matter how much power devs have they will always always always have the option to lower frame rate for some extra bells and whistles and for this type of game I’m ok with that.
Choppy compared to a PS5 game or even a Series S. Next time Nintendo, next time.
@beazlen1 I accept what you say as true however I am not going to believe that if this exact same game was designed for a base ps4 it would not be 1080p 60fps.
I’m never one for judge a game on graphics but…I just saw comparisons to the old game. This really is a different game from gameplay adjustments to environments. While the old felt linear it allowed for more cool looking environments. The larger level design really did compromise the art direction for the levels. Really flat looking. All that said I’ll wait for a sale if it does get one.
I have the first one, (some of those ubisoft are hard to let pass) unfortunately, i havent have the time to play it as much as i would like to. Kinda excited for this one since for what i can tell its less turn based than the last one.
@B_Lindz Ditto. Stopped going to PushSquare and Pure Xbox for this reason. Admittedly I get irked if framerate is less than 60FPS but I won't make a big issue out of it assuming it doesn't go too far below. Idc about resolution at all.
This is to be expected. Ofc I would have preferred higher framerate but I guess if they were going for that they would have to make too many compromises.
