For those of you that owned a PlayStation back in the day, you probably played one of the famous Crash Bandicoot games. Billed by many as the PlayStation's answer to Mario, Crash Bandicoot once starred in a popular line of platformers and spinoffs that put Naughty Dog – the development studio – on the map. Since then, Crash Bandicoot has fallen on tougher times and hasn't received a new game in several years, but his status as a PlayStation mascot has never really been forgotten.
It stands to reason that Crash was likely on many ballots for the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, and while the possibility of the character actually being viable may not have been very high, he would've been a natural fit to Super Smash Bros. Smashified – a Youtube channel that specializes in high-res fan art of potential Smash fighters – saw this, too, and decided to illustrate what it might look like if Crash Bandicoot had indeed made it into Smash. Check it out below:
What do you think? Would Crash have made a good Smash fighter? Do you think the character will make a comeback in the near future? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Neat, but I don't think he would fit into smash. You know who would? Shovel knight. O my dear shovel knight.
If you want to play Crash in Smash, check out the fangame Super Smash Bros. Crusade. Crash Bandicoot is a really fun character to play in that game.
I'd love to see it happen, but I honestly think Crash would receive more hate and disapproval than Cloud did, which is just sad.
I would have loved to play as Crash in Smash 4. Then again, I also was vouching for Spyro. My childhood favorite.
@Zoda_Fett I recently bought the game and I'm asking myself why I didn't do it earlier. Amazing game, one of my favourites on the 3ds and the main character is quite charming, he would definitely fit in my opinion.
Ehh, I don't love it. Crash looks too bulky (specifically buff in the arms and chest) and not his usual goofy/quirky self. He's almost a little creepy, to be honest. I also wish they had given some texture to his fur. The remixed music was pretty cool, but I wish they had gone with the Warp Room music from Warped and Wrath of Cortex, which I would say is his most iconic theme. I don't mean to sound like I'm hating on Smashified; they always do a phenomenal job, and I can't even fathom how they make such impressive renders.
@roy130390 yeah it defiantly is a gem! Only complaint would be its short but with the added content they made it a lil longer. Also can't complain because we get two more free dlc characters. So this game just keeps getting better and better
Crash is the Poochie of videogames. He has nothing to do in Smash.
Crash was one of my top picks. For a while, it was great to see the big 3 platformers Mario, Sonic and Crash all in games. Also, Crash has the type of moves which would map quite well to smash's control system.
I hope we get a new platforming style Crash game.
@Churchy
As long as its in the classic styles (no mutants or punching), and we get to see his pink underpants!
There are lots of 3rd party characters (who had games on Nintendo systems) that I want to see in any future Super Smash Bros. game and Crash Bandicoot is one among 50 of them. Yes you here me right, I actually want 50 3rd party characters for Super Smash Bros. 5.
I simply can't stop looking at Crash's right forearm. That one part is like cherry on the top - masterpiece.
Personally I'd prefer Spyro.
If he comes back, it will be an inferior product as Naughty Dog have made it clear they moved on ages ago. Uncharted 4 is the first game they've made where a series has crossed a generation. It's all good though, as their games have improved with each new series they've done.
Well, considering that we've gotten Snake and Cloud despite them being more Playstation than Nintendo, sure! Why not?
@Zoda_Fett I thought that he would've become dlc thanks to the ballot. Now that it's over...I'm not too sure if Shovel Knight will get in. And if he did get int, people would probably complain because he's an indie character and not someone more iconic like Bomberman or Rayman (granted, I do think that both deserve a chance to get in, and to be completely honest I think that Rayman is next in line as a guest character thanks to his trophies). Really, the only way I can see it happening now is if A. Super Shovel Knight/Shovel Knight 2 happens, B. his game is really popular in Japan, or C. he ranked very, very high on the ballot (I'm betting/hoping that Nintendo decides to put some of the runner-ups into Smash 5). However, there are a couple of things that I think are in his favor, like the fact that he was the only 3rd-party character outside of Smash to get his own amiibo, and his game was published in Japan by none other than the big N themselves.
My heart skipped several beats when I saw that thumbnail. Damn you, Omni, damn you!
You know, guys, I'm a Mario fan nowadays, but Crash is where I started from: what I called Tubular on handhelds, was Slippery Climb on home consoles.
Speaking of which... shameless plug: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/D693-0000-00FA-A0A7
This is a great example of just another ''computer artist' - computer artists in general (I know far too many) don't have a natural drawing capacity atall and rely on programs, drawing packages and tracing - Miiverse is hilarously full of these 'artistes'. We should crediting people with their excellent use of computers and user interfaces, not drawing skill.
So here we have Crash featuring pumped out muscles, chest and a perverted glare...these are all the exact opposite of his character and not very Smash Bros like either. Imagine Nintendo giving Mario muscles...
He would fit well in Smash. I don't understand why he never made it to Playstation all stars
@PikminFan22
If you have any Sony handheld or any PlayStation from the third one onwards, make sure to download any game (especially the second and third ones) in the original Crash trilogy. They're sold at the same price as the NES Virtual Console games and are just as classic. The Wrath Of Cortex kept the original spirit, but just wasn't the same; the same - but even more so - goes for the Radical Entertainment games. Trust me, you'll fall in love with levels such as The Eel Deal, Snow Go, Bear It, Rock It, Gee Wiz, Under Pressure, Diggin' It, Turtle Woods, Bone Yard... the list goes on and on.
If Crash had continued as a successful character in to the PS2 era and beyond, then sure, he'd be a great fit.
As for Shovel Knight, it's basically a fake retro game character. There's a catalogue of actual retro characters, Bomberman and Simon Belmont for instance, that need to be put in before they put in a fake one.
Not "What could've been...", it should say "What should've been...
It would be awesome if Crash made it in next time, along with the original Spyro. I despise his Skylanders look; cute-looking Spyro for the win!
I'd prefer that over Bayonetta.
Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon should definitely be revived. It'd be awesome to see Naughty Dog and Insomniac get back to their roots...
@Steven1094 Crash and Spyro were sold on years ago. Probably a good idea - Crash is a by product of his era - brash and badly designed. Spyro on the other hand has excelled with Skylanders.
@KoopaTheGamer Naughty Dog don't own Crash, Insomniac don't own Spyro. You catch my drift?
I would not let that Crash near my children(if I had any).. Very creepy
@locky-mavo Is that stocking as a squid?
@Steven1094 Nah, I think Cloud is better. The characters that have made more of an impact on gaming doesn't even compare to Cloud over Sora.
He would fit very well into Smash Bros.
Damn it, I hate Smashify. They keep making all the characters I want in a real Smash game, but know we'll never get
@PigmaskFan Agreed. The pink underpants are a must.
So it would still be a garish, poorly designed, pandering, copycat mascot that has neither the charm of Mario or the appeal of Sonic?
They should totally do Spyro next.
@liveswired Excelled? He's nowhere to be found in Skylanders storyline anymore. He's as dead as Crash is.
@Action51 Someone's a little salty today.
@liveswired Believe me, I know. But that doesn't mean things couldn't change in the future.
@boyika - Wait...you actually think Cash Brandicoot is something other then an obnoxiously designed mascot cash in?
Oh wow, I thought everyone saw through the flimsy pandering and me-too marketing behind it.
@Action51 Um ok? Who cares?
